One of the "On This Day' entries for today is 16th April 1969 when Derby beat us 4-1 at Carrow Road. The entry focuses on after the game when Lol Morgan was asked to resign. The reasons stated in this book were "having made several big money signings in his three years in charge, including Duncan Forbes, Geoff Butler and Ken Mallender Morgan could only take his side to the middle of the second division table."

Now, other managers got more out of two of these players, but Duncan Forbes signing for £10,000 must be one of the bargains of the century!

Anyway I remember that game because it was the first evening game I went to. We gave Brian Clough's Derby a guard of honour when they entered the field as they were already promoted. They proceeded to absolutely demolish us in a way i'd never seen before from a visiting team. They really were that good. We weren't though....

Their team was Green, Webster, MacFarland, Mackay, Robson, Carlin, McGovern, Hinton, Wignall, Hector, O’Hare

Ours Vasper, Stringer, Payne, Lucas, Forbes, Anderson, Foggo, Bryceland, Allcock, O’Donnell, Howard

Half that team became part of the Ron Saunders revolution.

My father-in-law used to reminisce about this game. He recalls us not getting anywhere near Derby that night and MacKay ran the show from the centre circle pinging passes left, right and centre.

Also, going back to the 'keepers, he was rather unkind about Peter Vasper, likening him to a sack of spuds.

Forgot about her, she has (had) a holiday home nearby, often saw her in supermarket and local market, very popular area with celebs.......and yours truly.

Judging from some recent pictures, she's had some more 'work' done and is becoming a modern day Ship of Theseus. (Or Trigger's Broom in the new money)

My wife and I went to Herts County show sometime in the 90s with our 2 dogs. She went to the toilet and while I was waiting outside with the dogs, Dave Lee Travis came by and admired them-can’t remember exactly what he said.

Apparently he was a great admirer of puppies.

  4. Me and my mate once took the pi55 out of rotund arrow-chucker Leighton Rees at services just outside Brum in 1990. He was tucking into two portions of fish and chips.

We were on our way back from the 3-3 draw at Villa where Derek Mountfield scored a cracking og.

Double recommend this. I'm a BA Film Student and Kurasawa is an unsung genius in much of the West.

Check out The Seven Samurai too - turned into The Magnificent Seven.

Dad to think that all Sheff Utd have to do is pump the ball long onto our box to cause absolute havoc. Can we not just for once go man for man marking on set pieces?

Be a refreshing change wouldn't it?

    And don't call me Dad.
