1. Is MO''N really THAT good? Sunderland did well first of all under his stewardship but finished 1 place and 2 points behind Norwich. That begs the next question, How good is Lambert? If he were in charge of Chelsea, Man City with an almost limit=free budget, would he perform as well as Jose etc? I guess no one knows that, not even he.
2. Yet another manager who''s name is well known but whose achievements are outweighed by his failings.
3.
Oh great times, isn''t it funny how a win against Sutton Utd is so well remembered? I remember standing in the Barclay on a summers day as those goals went in, must''ve been high on the goals as it looked a freezing January night watching it back!! lol Forgot about the ID card system too, everyone was getting in a right state - especially those in the barclay that thought they were in these ''hardcore'' firms - Oh sorry, didn''t know it was an offense to make up stories in the local village pub 3 hours after a footy match!! :)
Haha!! I was in the Barclay End that match too!! I remember losing count at what the score was and those two old gits that would walk round with the board showing the goal times just kept walking round all the match as another goal would go in before they finished walking the perimter of the pitch from the previous one.Sutton had knocked out Coventry City in the previous round and THEY had won the FA Cup the year before.I hate Coventry.
4. I remember seeing Hux play against Chelsea at CR. He waltzed his way through the their defence as though it weren''t there, on more than one occasion.
5. I think I''d help out with a new stand or something. On a similar-ish note, it does frustrate me that clubs like Darlington drop 4 divisions into near-obscurity and those top 4-6 clubs are knee deep in the stuff. I''d like to think that all clubs, especially the smaller ones like Gorleston FC etc. can get the youngsters, both boys & girls into football and do something to resist this country getting any more fatter than it is!*** rant over ***
6. Yes, excellent post. I know that many outside this region who have never been here often make fun of us and our club being a ''backwater'' and so on but although I''ve worked & lived all over the UK, I''ve never really left Norfolk and probably never will.Nice one Darren and all the other players/ex-players who see this place and this club in the same way that we do.
7. Whatever you say about how he is/was, you can''t dismiss his success at Norwich. We all judge managers on their results and, if I''m correct, Norwich are the only team to have ever got two consecutive promotions into the Premier League and then stayed there!I do beleive that McNally will appoint another great manager though.
8. Until Norwich, was Lambert that good? He instilled discipline and self belief in the squad members but we certainly had some duff results on the way to the Prem and got found out on a number of occasions, so let''s not go thinking that it has to be worse from now on.
9. I work in the West Mids but don''t live there. Still, we have a Villa supporter in our office but he''s been fine. We also have supporters of West Brom, Birmingham & Wolves. We DID have Cov supporters in our office but they''ve all gone rather quiet!
10.
...If i''ve learned 1 thing over the last 20 years of supporting Norwich, it''s that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is ...
We''ve had it very mild compared to Leeds, Southampton, Bradford(!), Coventry etc. so count our blessings!!
11. I agree. He never took any praise for Norwich''s achievements. He, for some while now, said that managers don''t last more than 3 years (or words to that effect) and said he''d be surprised if he were here after 3. I think he must have gone in with a 3-year plan or, at least, seen through the 7 year plan. If he''s as good as he thinks he is (and he may well be) then he''s certainly selling himself short going to Villa unless it''s just to say "Look what I''ve done with this old crock, now Mr Glazer..."
12. Wasn''t McNally behind Fulham for their rise through the leagues and now Prem safety, only to be offered and then unoffered a job at Arsenal, so he found a place here.I maybe wrong but that''s how I understand it.
13.
''I''ve been told a few times in recent months that Chris Hughton was #ncfc''s theoretical ''Plan B'' if Lambert left. I guess we''ll soon know''. What do we think?
He & Lambert could flash each other as they pass on the A14 !
14.
....are continental players better than british players then?! Or do they just sound more exotic?
Using the success of the England football team as a metric, continental players are better.
15. Chances are he will, although we are (including me) all presuming that he is on his way to becoming the best manager ever. Maybe he will find a level that isn''t as high as Fergy and the like. In that case, he may stay at Villa and stay being 8th or 9th every year. He he is better than that, then yes, he''ll leave Villa for a club bigger than them. I guess I''m sounding like a Col U fan now!!
16. Would you bother with Villa? I know it sounds sour grapes and all that but if I were that good at being a manger, I''d go for Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle etc. whenever those positions came available.Maybe he''ll do the next step after a few years with Villa OR, he may even reach a limit and not set the Prem alight just like MoN hasn''t done with Sunderland this year, despite getting up to 8th.
17.
ill be the first, fuck off you stinking, useless at building cars midlander. ;) In all seriousness i expect you to be challenging top 8 next year.
Oi !!! I''m a staunch Norwich City fan, from Norfolk, owning a house in Norwich... working for a well known Midlands manufacturer of luxury, sports and off road vehicles !! I''m not even the only Norwich fan here, there are quite a few of us plying our trade over here.On another note... 3 years'' time Man U or B Dortmund will probably be looking for a new manager...
18. Lord Sugar talks a lot of sense on the telly.
19. It''s 1p5wich, not Ip5w1ch, as the score was 1-5.Carry on.
20. Isn''t it strange seeing Bradford & Oldham Athletic in that table? Do their fans still yern for a return to the Premier League or have they accepted that a different financial scew makes it very difficult for these clubs now?
21.
Holt vs. Liverpool has been debated as our best goal, a towering header in amongst 3 players from a wicked Pilkington (or was it Bennett?) cross to head us level infront of the Kop after just coming on as a substitute! That and his chip and header at home vs. Wolves was rather special! And of course, a good mention to Bennett''s winner against Spurs, not just for the quality strike, but for winning the 3 points we deserved!
Am looking forward to getting the DVD !!Yes, Holt''s goal against Liverpool was good as the defenders couldn''t jumped as high and clattered into each other. Holt''s goal against Wolves(?) where he chips the keeper then heads in. If Rooney had done that the MotD team would be doing indecent things! Bennets goal against Spurs, as I was there, saw hime with the ball and had no idea who he could pass to and just thought he''s have to back-track then BAM !! Morrison''s goal against Arsenal; he did SO well to keep his nerve and clearly had had a few people criticising him beforehand too.
22. I agree. I''d defiantely like the proceeds to go to a worthwhile charity of the player''s choice. Even earning ''just'' £2k a week is a fantastic amount of money.
23.

Some of us have seen all this sort of thing before during the ''70s, 80s and 90s.   Apparently many haven''t.   My advice. Relax, recognize our limitations, enjoy the ride and support our team.   OTBC
Probably the most common sense post on here in recent days! I remember as a teenager thinking the world had ended when Darren Eadie left, but the club is still here. I am a little upset at the manner in which Grant Holt has conducted himself, but at the end of the day its not that big a deal if he does go. The man is 31, the aging process dictates that he will need replacing sooner rather than later anyway. Maybe we will sign an up and coming 24 year old from the lower leagues who can be our new hero for years to come!!! Thats the crucial thing actually. not whether or not Holt leaves, but that we have the ambition to sign a capable replacement!! Same goes for if Lambert leaves.
Yes, I remember (just) talks about Justin Fashanu going and then later there was the Chris Sutton- Will he, won''t he and all that between. That siad, I remember being in the Barclay End when they announced that Norwich had signed Butterworth on a permanent deal and the whole crowd cheered.
24. I was firmly rooting for Bayern. I can''t stand Man U, Man C, Chelsea and Arsenal. I would have supported Spurs or Newcastle though.
