  1. We do seem to be adopting the if we go down we''ll come straight back attitude which sounds good on paper but in reality doesn''t always work like that. I do agree with wiz to a degree but the corner infill is definetely needed with such high demand for tickets. The main problem with our failure to buy a striker will come if we need docs height at the back who will play up front? I''m not convinced he''ll score enough goals cos he lacks the pace to trouble most defences in the prem. Have to admit I think we''ve been overcautious in our spending, West Brom spent 7 million the first time they came up but on the wrong players. We have spent around 2 million which is nowhere near enough to get the necessary quality. We will now find it very difficult to finish above West Brom and Pompey as a result of the Quality theyve bought in and I''m less than convinced that Everton will struggle as some have predicted, the Rooney business seems to have galvanised them.
  2. Midnight for english based players, 5 pm for players requiring international clearance and work permits.
  3. Don''t know whether he''s playing tonight or not , just been on West Ham website and no team news on there. Worthy would burn the midnight oil to do a deal, I''m sure of that so lets not give up just yet.
  4. Can''t see how anyone can say we''ve got no money left cos in truth we don''t know. Worthys meeting with the board the other day was probably to discover how far he is able to go on a striker. We ought really to have some money cos we''ve only spent 2 million so far.
  5. The thing is being in the prem is the only way to ensure the club will be financially secure 1st wiz. I feel exactly the same way as you, we have been to cautious in our spending and as a result have left ourselves with an even more difficult task. It''s weird hearing fans telling the club not to spend to much as it''s normally the other way round. I just hope that we sign a target man at least before tuesday cos as you say if we go down it would not be as easy to come back as some people seem to think.
  6. I certainly hope so cos as well as Doc played yesterday for me he lacks the pace to trouble the top defences. Hucks was awesome yesterday and if we had a target man with pace(Harewood) we would truly have a forward line to fear. I am hopeful that we''ll get someone in as most of the ground work for a move may already be done.
  7. What was going on in the snakepit then? Was the geezer with all the muscle one of the arse fans and how many was there? I sat in block E of the barclay and could see a guy with a shaven head standing up when all the commotion was going on. Why the hell didn''t the stewards throw them out cos they shouldn''t have been there in the first place. They were probably locals and someone should have taken their seat numbers and reported it to the club so they could trace the source of their tickets. If this happens for Arsenal it will be even worse for Manure.
  8. Here here, I said exactly the same thing. People keep going on about how small the city of Norwich is but Blackburn is even smaller and is merely a town. We have the potential to be bigger than Blackburn and as u say they just got lucky in they had a mega rich fan who was prepared to put millions in to his beloved club. Roll on the top tier of the City stand being built and when we start averaging 30,000 or more we may then begin to be seen as a bigger club. We are certainly capable of equaling the Middlesboroughs of this world who have only ever won 1 trophy and for some reason seem to be classed as a big club.
  9. Johansson has scored 24 goals in 74 games he''s played in the prem, not brilliant but there may be scope for improvement if he started regularly. Still prefer Harewood though.
  10. Excellent performance but as someone else said Svennson and Holty looked out of their depth. We def need a good target man then we will win some games. Overall very encouraging.
  11. We have the potential to be bigger than Blackburn anyway, we had a bigger attendance than them last week with 5000 baggies fans there. Proves how much he knows.
  12. One thing in dohertys favour is that he has been playing in a team low on confidence under a manager in Pleat who is incapable of instilling confidence in himself let alone his players. That plus the fact that even in better days Spurs never have known how to defend properly. If I''m honest I have my doubts as to whether he will prove a good signing but I would be delighted to be proved wrong and we should at least give him a chance.
  13. Maybe there will just be a press release rather than a conference and then the official unveiling of whoever would be on Monday. Or maybe a press conference will be hastily arranged today.
  14. I was in barclay lower block E and I didn''t think the palace fans were that loud in fact I''d go so far as saying I could hardly hear them at all. Depends on where u sat as to how loud they sounded. They were certainly very quiet from the 16th to the 73rd minute.
  15. We only have 1 player who is capable of turning a game with a flash of brilliance and thats Hucks, Bentley also looks to have the same capability but he is far more inexperienced and needs to get a few more games before he can turn games on a regular basis. The strange thing about Saturdays game was the range of opinions from people about how well or not we played. Some say we played well, others have said rubbish. I tend to be somewhere in the middle and say that we did ok but will need to do better in the coming weeks if we are to pick up some points. The new players will get better as they play more games but I am still of the opinion that we should have spent a bit more than we have to get the extra quality in. I never buy a national newspaper because of all the rubbish they write about us but the fact of the matter is that they all seem to be of the opinion that we lack quality, surely they can''t all be wrong although I sincerely hope they''re proved so.
  16. He''s proved once again that not only is he a quality player but he''s a top bloke who shows consideration for his fellow players at all times. As u say he''s already a legend at this club and is most definitely one of the most exciting players to grace the hallowed turf. Good on yer Hucks.
  17. Just heard on radio that Worthy hopes to make another signing by tomorrow lunchtime. Hopefully a big pacey centre half.
  18. The club have already said they were not going to use any of the money towards the debt and the 6 million for the stand has come from the land deal. We also have almost 2 million to come from our tv appearances in the first half of the season. Add to that 15 million parachute payments if we go down or another 14 million tv money plus more money each time we''re on live if we stay up for another season and I don''t believe we''re still poor for one minute, just being ultra cautious. And all that is not including 550k for each place we finish up the league and the increased sponsorhip and merchandise sales that come with being a prem club.
  19. I think he would be a good signing , bags of prem experience and knows where the goal is. Also played with Hucks before when they were promoted and scored more than 40 goals between them. My only reservation is his age.
  20. Dawson is out injured for several months and would probably fetch 3 million plus, as for Harewood an offer of around 1.5 million would probably make Pardew at least consider selling him. Can''t see Harewood being happy stuck out on the right which is where he''s likely to be with Sheringham and Rebrov in the middle.
  21. The powers that be in the football world need to do something to make a more even playing field. Quite what they can do is difficult to say but a maximum wage for each division would be a start. Put a stop on people like abramovich taking over clubs to which they have no previous connection and are obviously only interested in an ego trip. We''re all pleased to be in the prem but the division is fast becoming a pointless exercise in which there is only a small percentage of the teams with a chance of winning the title. Ten years ago we could rightly claim to have an outside chance of winning the title but nowadays we and many others like us haven''t got a cat in hells chance and that can''t be good for the game.
  22. Another thing to remember is that we now have a board who are prepared to back the manager with as much cash as we can afford at the present time, previous regimes have failed to come up with the cash to take us to the next level. Although we''ll never be seen in the same light as the top 3 plus the 2 merseyside teams and Newcastle, spuds and Villa we should certainly be able to give the Saints, charlton and Brum a run for their money. If we can establish ourselves in the prem we can expect to be linked with many big names in the future.
  23. Why do u say that there is very little chance of getting Pennant DD? While he''s a good player he''s not exactly a superstar who''d consider himself above playing for us. While acknowledging that we need to be realistic I do sometimes feel that our fans have a bit of a defeatist attitude when it comes to buying players. Noticed the other day that some people posted that we had no chance of getting Helveg and we all know what the outcome of that one was. We are a prem club and although not yet established we are entitled to be linked with higher quality players.
  24. Don''t seem to remember saying that we should spend spend spend merely that we should be spending a bit more than we have. We all know that it would be madness to go mad and spend to big on players but to be over cautious could prove as costly as spending to much in the long term. The fact of the matter is that u cannot argue with the figures and promotion to the prem is worth between 35 and 40 million if u include the parachute payments should we get relegated. The club have already said that they will not be clearing the debts as they are structured over manageable long term payments, the south stand has been paid for by the land deal. The 3 million for the infill and the 650k for the pitch as well as additional payments for the Hucks, Svensson and Mckenzie transfers and increased wages will have to come from the money. Lets say all that adds to 15 million. We would still be 20-25 million in pocket, even if Worthy was given a ten million transfer kitty we would still be 10-15 million better off. I feel more worried about losing our prem status than the club spending to much cos I know for a fact that they''re not likely to overspend anyway but it has been a nightmare to escape div 1 and if we go down it would be just as difficult to get back up. If this happened in the long term the very existence of the club would again come under threat.
  25. I''m firmly in the should have speculated more than we have state of mind. Its easy to say how we will be in a strong position to come back up if we go down, it''s much harder to put it into practice and actually do it. What if we go down and DON''T come straight back up again? The parachute payments last for 2 years, if we stay down for another ten years we are back to square one. The trouble is I don''t see us spending a large part of the parachute money as others have done to make us stronger. I think we had to be cautious but feel that we are being over cautious and relying to much on the if we go down we''ll bounce back up mentality.
