1. I think the important thing is that there are people out there who see us as an attractive proposition, let''s just hope they pick the right one.
 2. According to Mr Bowkett on todays webchat we are currently in discussions with several shortlisted parties with regard to investing in the club and it sounds as if that shortlist originally contained 50 interested parties, I''d guess that quite a number were just timewasters but it''s still comforting to know that there are people interested in putting money into the club and it''s hopefully just a case of sorting the wheat from the chaff. Doesn''t sound like anything is likely to happen in time for the summer but fingers crossed that something could happen later in the year.
 3.

Seems a useful player at League 1 level, Captian & player of the season at Brighton this season, gets stuck in and scores a few goals. I''m not sure who some of you expect us to sign on a limited budget?
Limited budget we were told we were budgeting for the top 6 , not with signings like this we wont.
Do the Maths, we''re only getting an additional couple of million £ a year through promotion, I''m pretty sure this season our budget was more than we could actually afford on our revenue so there is no way the club will be going out spending big money on players.Get real!!
I think we''re getting closer to 5 million additional income just from the tv money amd then we will gain more money from extra sponsorship and more away fans than we had in league 1, he may turn out to be a good player for us but he certainly doesn''t have the wow factor.
 4.
A Manager''s budget will always be significantly more than what the board assume will be enough. Which ever way you look at it, as a club we are broke. There isn''t a money tree or billionaire chairman. We won''t be making any big signings. Our new player money comes from getting rid of existing players.
I live in hope that one day that may change, at some stage in the hopefully not to distant future we WILL get taken over as plenty of other clubs have and we will have the money to make big signings and who''s to say it won''t happen sometime soon.
 5.
Perhaps someone can ask the Chairman during his web chat tomorrow.
Done.
 6.
You surely didn''t expect him to say we have shed loads of money did you? [;)]
No but I just find it strange that the manager and chairman seem to be singing from different hymnsheets, don''t really know whether to feel hopeful or fearful tbh.
 7. He looked a bit downbeat in that interview to me, hope we aren''t heading for another O''Neill type scenario.
 8. A couple of weeks ago our chairman stated that we will have a budget to compete with the top six filling me full of hope for next season, and now Lambert has just been on Anglia news claiming that we won''t be able to compete with the top clubs because of the financial constraints we are under. Who are we to believe?
 9.
Not having the money before? We had one of the biggest player budgets in the league. The same as Wolves actually, who went up whilst we went down
We may have had the same budget for wages but we didn''t have the millions that they had avaliable to spend on transfer fees, they spent a couple of million quid on Ewbanks Blake alone and that is why they are in the prem.
 10.
What would Brighton fans know about being in the Championship?
They''ve probably seen enough of the play off games in the last week to know that the standard of football at the top end of the championship is far better than league 1.
 11.
kd, I''m not saying he''d be a success or anything. I''m saying that players can often make that step up in calibre even when not expected too. Just because he''s not some hot shot from the Prem/Champ doesn''t preclude him from being able to make that step up.
In reality even Lambert doesn''t know for certain whether a lower league player will make the grade in a higher division and the whole thing is a bit of a gamble, sometimes they work out and sometimes they don''t but for such a vital position in the team I''d feel more comfortable if we brought in a proven championship performer tbh.
 12.
Strange being as he''s their captain and was voted player of the season
I''d guess it''s a similar scenario to what we''ve had here with Doherty, even though he has been good in league 1 some of them don''t think he''d be any good in the championship.
 13. From a Brighton forum    I''m sorry, but if crofts is being targeted as norwich''s main midfield man then they may as well be relegated now. This is not a criticism of Norwich, but if I was one of their fans and heard this news I would not be optimistic in the slightest.   Again only one persons opinion and to be fair there are some on there that rate him highly but he has only performed in league one so none of us really know whether he''d be good enough for the championship.
 14.

Don''t think that he''s the calibre of player to transform us into a top six championship team, probably just a rumour that the edp have got from somewhere.
Says who? Anthony Gerrard, signed for Cardiff from Walsall. He''s proven himself to be a top six Championship player despite coming from an average league one club. DJ Campbell, scoring for fun with Blackpool. We all know where he came from. Meanwhile, clubs like Derby, Middlesborough and Ipswich rot in the lower reaches of the Championship because they''ve bought in big expensive players who don''t really want to play for the club. A team of hungry, capable players are exactly what we need. I think Crofts would fit this description.
We do need a team of young hungry players with ability and from what I''ve seen of him I''m not convinced he has enough ability to take us where we want to go, you do and if this is true then so does Lambert. All about opinions, let''s hope yours is right and mines wide of the mark..

 16.
BBC article states he is hardcore Charlton-This means he may be loyal(shock-horror).I would love this addition for our midfield engine but fear price tag would be 2 high.
Don''t think he''ll be given much choice whether or not he stays at Charlton, they will probably be forced to sell their best players to balance the books.
 17.

Good post cusdp, could someone who thinks the doc is good enough for the championship please explain how we managed to conceded a total of 260 goals in our four seasons in the championship with him as a major part of our defence if he was that good?
Were the central / defensive midfield providing adequate cover during that time ?  Were the attack holding up the ball and taking pressure off the defence ?  Were we offering a balanced formation, or were we papering over the defensive inadequacies of some of our formation to try and exploit their attacking abilities ?
At times especially in the early days after getting relegated I''d say yes the midfield did provide cover and the attack did hold the ball up but because of our defence going awol and being prone to sudden lapses in concentration we continued to concede far to many sloppy goals. Even this season in league 1 there were a few bad goals conceded from corners where our defence failed to deal properly with the ball coming into the box.
My point was that it''s a team game.  No individual is responsible for the goals against tally.
True enough and it''s fair to say that our team has been poor for most of the last few years but Doherty has still made his fair share of mistakes that have cost us goals and I am more than confident that Lambert will bring in someone better.

 20.
Is Bruce available from Ipswich on a free? [/quote/]He played for Leicester in the play offs the other day, not sure whether he is on loan there or they have signed him on a permanent deal.
 21. Can''t remember any particular miss but Cureton must have missed at least a dozen chances that my grandmother would have put away during our last season in the Championship, don''t think I can ever remember a striker missing so many easy chances in a season for us since Darren Beckford and Dean Coney were around. I know most would say you can''t blame a single player if you get relegated but Cureton could have single handedly kept us up even if he''d have stuck a couple of the sitters he missed away.
 22.

The reason people are so hissy is that no one saw the Doherty thing coming (though no doubt they will claim they did) after the season, and much improvement in his all round play that we have all witnessed (apart from the blinkered people)
PL has seen the doc for what he is...a league 1 player....we have been poor at the back for years now and who has been part of a 2???? DOC...yes he has improved this season but im not convinced he is championship material anymore....we bought him as a Prem player Good luck in your future Doc [Y]
Just cany beleive people are jumping on PL and our chances in the championship already...it really is laughable...i think these are the same people that sat near me the last game of the season
People get nervous, at the end of the day Lambert is stepping into unknown territory, what he achieved this season was fantastic, but we''re back on zero points now with it all to prove. And this Doc thing really was a curve ball, I mean, if you were to pick right now who you would rather have in the squad, Doc or Nelson, I know who I''d choose.
Based on the last few games I think I''d go for Nelson but in an ideal world I don''t think any of them are good enough to be a regular starter at that level. If we had the money I''d rather we offloaded the pair of them and replaced them with a couple of more mobile centre backs tbh.
 23. I really can''t see why some seem to be so against Doc being released, he has played four seasons for us in the championship and in that time we have conceded an average of 65 goals per season. He is obviously not entirely to blame but I have long since been of the opinion that while he is part of our defence we would continue to concede goals at that level. Doc is a great guy and has been a loyal servant to this club but the time is right for him to move on.
 24. Russell is another player like Doc for me, has had a very good season in league 1 but I don''t think he''s good enough for a team hoping to be pushing for a place in the top 6 of the Championship.
 25. If wages were the problem he''d have been released last year.
