    Southampton vs Preston tonight.

    What do we want ?

For me a draw would be ideal (does for Preston) failing that a Preston win - they are too far behind anyway to now be a serious threat for 6th.

I suppose S'oton could still be dark horse for the autos and deprive Ipswich (or Leeds last day of the season).

I don't understand why a draw is ideal? We either think Southampton have a slim chance of catching Ipswich, or we couldn't care less as neither we are catching Southampton or Preston are catching us is going to happen? For the record Southampton for me, unlikely they will catch them but still possible.

    Well you see..

Not many other choices. I started worrying years ago when all the top teams began being full of foreign players that it would end up hurting the England squad and I was right

    Such a visionary.

  3. I don't really rate McCallum. He's OK as backup squad player, but as a starter, he is a weak link for a team wanting to be at the top end of this league. Dimi is by far the better player in my opinion, despite his own weaknesses, and cannot understand peoples preference for McCallum.

Would we be further up the league if wagner had played him sooner

I don't think it's that simple. He was clearly not tracking / putting in the work rate when he first started. That has changed recently.

We are losing and all of a sudden posters are slagging the team off.Sometimes I find this forum so frustrating

Football fans are always all or nothing. Adam Idah is either the new Ronaldo or not good enough for League One. We're either trying to finish Champions League places or lucky to avoid relegation. The "average" reality isn't very interesting, so fans always deal in extremes.

Do well to attack Bellingham. I live in Birmingham and he invests thousands into underprivileged kids projects. Even the Villa supporters appreciate him.

The press always find a way. Apart from thinking he's a Rolls Royce of a player, I have no knowledge of him or opinion of him on a non "he's class at football" level, so it is good to hear that he seems a nice bloke too.

However, having said that,  I don't really care if someone is a nice bloke, why are we (as a country / nation / press - not you and I) interested. I want him to win football games, and unless he is criminal, I couldn't care less - Roy Keane wasn't a nice bloke, but you'd have him in your team.

I may have it wrong, but from what i've gathered:

Essex and a friend bought 1000 shares making them Associate Directors (AD) with the added incentive that they would be provided a free 'seat for life' in the AD section each season - which over the course of a few decades could mean they break even and still retain share value at the end.  Sadly, Essex's friend passed away and the 'seat for life' was not passed down to his daughter who did inherit 1000 shares, which he feels is unfair.  Essex then traded his posh AD seat for two normal seats - I presume the other seat being for his friend daughter?.  Somewhere along the line he lodged a complaint with an external body who investigated the case and was told that no wrong-doings occurred and he should move on.  As a result, he's here critical of management and how we're ran, with the intent (I think) to imply that the cost of passing on that 'seat of life' is minimal compared to the money wasted.

Furthermore his 1000 shares which he purchased for £25 a pop 20+ years back are now hard to sell in bulk, and has the quandary that if he sold 1 share it would take him below 1000 shares causing him to lose AD status, and thus the 2 free season tickets each year which puts him at a loss.  So seeing individual sales of shares being advertised at £60-80 a pop, i believe, is another cause of frustration, as potentially sitting on £80k of shares but unable to shift them at that rate.

I appreciate that's 2 paragraphs, but it's the basic background as i've understood it.  There's a few other additions such as claiming that the club should have refunded him on the 'seat for life' when we were unable to attend games due to covid, and also how AD's weren't given priority when crowds returned in limited numbers.

Hopefully I get a 7 out of 10 for effort, as I don't think i'm too far off now. 🙂

    Thank you.

Ignoring spidey sense again, but, clue's in the name "seat for life" I would think.

  8. I genuinely have no idea what is going on here.  I often see the essex vs the rest of forum posts, read a little, shake my head and walk away.

My spidey sense tells me that I don't want to know whats going on, but for some reason, I'm ignoring it. Anyone want to - in a paragraph or less- explain what's going on here? I think I missed the start of the saga and can't catch up...

But if they have an agreement to sell him on immediately, with the paperwork to prove it, couldn't they just get a short-term loan from a bank?

Is that even allowed? I was under the impression you couldn't sell a player that you had bought for "X" amount of time, but no idea if that is actually true or not.

Soccer bot salesman must of loved the day he got rid of that pile of rubbish for a million ,

Webber what ever were you thinking

I'm not even sure that it has failed, but signing up to the premise that it has; In the scheme of things, a million isn't a lot. I'd rather we tried these things and they failed than sit there playing 4-4-2 (ironically, Wagner appears to be in favour!) and stagnating.

Yeah, I know, people like to complain...

Say what you like about Hughton, but he is our 3rd most successful Premier League manager of all time (by win % or pts/game). It wasn’t always pretty, but it was effective.

I appreciate that, and I can understand owners wanting to go that route when paying money for results. However, I watch football because I like it, I want to be entertained. Hughton football was the least entertaining I have witnessed.

Sucked the joy out of football said above is bang on. Horrible, just horrible to watch.

Still think the Gibson "challenge" was a foul the ref missed..

Probably be proved wrong when the highlights are out mind

    It wasn't a foul.

I can't say I really thought about the ref during the game, which, in itself tells the story. Now that I think back, I agree, I thought he was really good. Always easier to say when the big calls go your way (even if they are right). Wonder what the WBA fans think of him...

I cant help but feel there's still a good % of fans who wanted their blood so badly they just cant let it go.They wanted Wagner sacked and they half don't want him to succeed because then they'd look as stupid as...they actually are.

The same ones that desperately wanted Farke out and then complained when his replacement didn't outperform our best performing manager for 30+ years, that they demanded was replaced? Stupid is, as stupid does.

Kind of agree, Hugill is a great lad but you see better players in Sunday morning football. Barnes is burnt out now, but cares  and who can begrudge him topping up the pension fund.

If you paid me the money he gets, I'd be "a great lad" too! Hugill is stealing a living, as a great man once said (about someone else), "he couldn't trap a bag of cement". Barnes, despite recent form not being brilliant, I think is overall better than I had expected. He's got a bit of the dickov / holt ability to really annoy the opposition but he also has ability that I did not appreciate. I know people have enjoyed slating Barnes recently, but you don't play 200 times in the Premier League without ability.

  15. 21 minutes ago, Midlands Yellow said:

Is Barnes our new Hugill with slightly less ability? Joking apart if they played with a sack on their heads would you be able to to pick who’s who?

It's not even close. Barnes is 100x the player that Hugill is. I'm not saying Barnes is fantastic (but I think he's good at this level), but I am say that Hugill is an absolute donkey, who I genuinely think I have better skill level than (and I don't think I'm any good).

Hostile?  Where?!  If that counts as hostile you really ought to have a word.

He was spent.  Yes, so was Barnes but thsts a different point.  Can’t you be happy that we came away with a hard earned point?

Where you do believe that I indicated that I am not happy with a hard earned point? Thinking that taking Rowe off was a bad decision is not the opposite position to that, so perhaps not project opinions on to others?
