Norwich V Wigan: Goals on...
Gentleman Jim replied to Earlsfield's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Yes thanks for that Earlsfield, I think the virtue of Martin''s first goal was the timing of his run which was absolutely spot on and put him in for a "could not miss" situation. I also think those who said Theo had "no chance" with either goal were more than generous, his positioning for their second left more than enough room for an easy near post finish. Our third goal was the result of Wes''s superb vision to place a precision David Beckham''ish crossfield pass spot on to Whaleys feet, magic ! -
Sir Bobby Robson, 1933-2009
Gentleman Jim replied to Evil Monkey's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
A great loss to football and to lovers of the game, he had the talent, both as a player and manager, to win supporters hearts no matter what their Club or Country allegiances. R.I.P. Bobby -
Stupid omens and superstitions
Gentleman Jim replied to LQ's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
A few years ago City were on a really poor run, four of us decided to go in The Murderers for a meal and a pint before the match, [B][:D] I had one of their omelettes which must have been made with about ten eggs. I waddled down to the match afterwards fully stuffed and of course they won for the first time in weeks ! [I]So obviously I decided to do the same before every match until they lost, they went on a ten match unbeaten run ! Eggsasperating ![:@] Never have been able to look an omelette in the eye since ![:$] -
Maric 1 year contract..
Gentleman Jim replied to Earlsfield's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Rubbish. Fact is both Maric and Askou are both unknown quantities in English football. To suggest danes are more suited to english football than serbs is the loosest generalisation of the highest order. Fergie spent nearly £20mm on serbs last season. Agree a one year option would be best for the club.
Hmmm, this poster''s style seems familiar to me . . . . . . .[;)] -

Gentleman Jim replied to First Wizard's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Yes, Oh Yes, Yes!.............superb signing Gunn even though I was wrong..............get in there![Y]
C''mon Wiz old friend, Don''t be so modest, you know full well it''s an intentional inverted hex thingumy, remember "Hucks definately won''t sign " ? So come on mate lets have another one ? Now who''s not available . . . . . . ? -
"The only two that have been any good"? Seriously? And that''s opposed to all those superb permanent signings we''ve had too? By that logic we should probably stop signing players altogether...
Point taken Graham, cant argue with that [:D]

Loaning players is killing the game and only helps the team loaning them out in the long run. We would play them, train them, coach them, pay them and price them out of our reach if they are successful. If they are flops they will just cost us money. Look at the crap we have had in the past and how much it has cost us. Added to that if we take loans on board it will be at the expense of our own young player''s development. No loans for me!
Yeah, Darren Huckerby and Ched Evans were a complete shambles, didn''t help us at all! Loans are there to supplement the exisiting squad - Gunn is obviously building his own team before adding 2 or 3 loans where he sees fit, probably later in the transfer window. And I would welcome them.
To give your argument some balance you should surely in all fairness name the dozens of very costly failures that we have also had . I feel naming the only two that have been any good is not an encouragement to pursue using the loan system again.
"Ken Nethercott/Sandy Kennon; Bryan Thurlow, Ron Ashman; Roy McCrohan, Barry Butler, Matt Crowe; Errol Crossan, Terry Allcock, Terry Bly, Jimmy Hill, Bobby Brennan" I wonder what that wonderful team cost - related to todays market?
Since you ask, it was about £34,000 as far as I can tell. Butler £5,000, Crossan £6,000, Hill £8,000 and Brennan £15,000, (we made £22,000 profit when we sold Hill) Thurlow and Bly came from local clubs, Nethercott and Ashman freshly demobbed, McCrohan player exchange and I believe Butler and Crowe were free because of injury problems.

City To Sign Dorrans On Loan
Gentleman Jim replied to Ian James's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City

Only a few words put me off this, "loan" [:@], "Peter Grant" ![8o|]
Stop moaning about loanees. as long as you only have a couple then its fine. Look at when we won the league, Crouchy and Hucks came in on loan and pretty much won the league for us
Just because someone has a different viewpoint to you Ryan it doesn''t make them a moaner. Although it has it''s uses I don''t like the loan system, the fact that one or two have helped us doesn''t compensate , (in my humble opinion), for the failure dependence on them have cost us the last two seasons. -
We don't want any loan players
Gentleman Jim replied to BlyBlyBabes's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Completely the opposite! Tell me, if there were no system in place what would the Premiership clubs do with their unwanted, inexperienced, maybe good enough players? The advantage of the loan system as far as Huckerby is concerned is clear ..... or is it? If there was no loan system and Huckerby wasn''t wanted at Manchester City there would have been a chance of picking up a bargain. As it was he probably cost us more after he became a success with us. Before the loan system changed the way we think we bought Reserve team players from established teams and built our own team. Dare I mention a few Spurs Reserves such as Crook, Polston, Bowen, Culverhouse or an Aberdeen Reserve, Gunn or a fringe player such as Butterworth and many other players that we have picked up over the years and developed for our own good. That simply is not allowed to happen today as the clubs will not sell their reserves or fringe players when they can loan them out, have them developed by other clubs, given matches and exposure and have their values increased before selling them. If there was no loan system what would the ''Big Boys'' do with the 60 or 70 players thay have? The loan system now stops smaller clubs picking up any bargains at all and will ensure that they stay smaller clubs for a long while.
Spot on mate -
We don't want any loan players
Gentleman Jim replied to BlyBlyBabes's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Well, I don''t. None - none at all. How about you? OTBC
Oh dear treble B, I find ourselves for once being in agreement ![:O] My perfect scenario is for Gunny to build a useful team of contract only players, to my mind he has done this to date. I admit that a few exceptions like Hucks etc have done us proud but compare that with the many who have disappointed. Of course perfect scenarios are unlikely to become reality but I think that should be the aim. If resources don''t allow then get a couple of loanees in but those who you will hopefully be able to sign at the end of the loan period. IMVHO -
