2. I am confused by this whole thread................. There are so many conflicting reports............ The EDP reporter said McVeigh was slick and he and Adeyemi were the pick of the first half. http://www.edp24.co.uk/content/edp24/sport/story.aspx?brand=EDPOnline&category=Sport&tBrand=EDPOnline&tCategory=xDefault&itemid=NOED22%20Jul%202009%2019%3A55%3A06%3A563 Yet others on here said they were rubbish........... Basically tonight it was a team of players who had never played together before......... The whole point of these trial games is to get a look at a few players and give some of the young players some minutes. Its also cool that we give something back to local clubs like Dereham
 3.
Im worried by the lack of activity from norwich in the loan market, its now july 22nd and still no loan players, whats going on where is the ambition, come on sort it out.
You never got a single nibble!
 4. The one interesting aspect of this thread is that not only is it hard to get a consensus.......... But for the first time in a long time we have a bit on decent competition in various areas........... Suprised nobody has mentioned the posibility of Hucks coming back............... I have a sneaking feeling he hasn''t played his last game for us. Based on our current squad/rumors I would personally go for................. Defensive ---------------Theoklitos--------------- --Spillane--Doherty--Nelson--Drury --Hughes-----OTJ---Gill-----Lappin -------------Holt------Maric----------- Attacking ---------------Theoklitos--------------- --Spillane--Doherty--Nelson--Drury ----Hughes-------OTJ-------Gill --------------Hoolahan-------------- -----------Holt------Maric----------- Super Attacking 5-4 formation....... 5-4 being the final score! ---------------Theoklitos--------------- --Spillane--Doherty--Nelson--Drury ----Whaley----Hughes------Hucks --------------Hoolahan-------------- -----------Holt------Maric-----------
 5.

Amazing signing , see even a short fat bloke with no form of note for years can impress our great manager .
Have you even seen him play recently and seen how fit he looks compared to the player that left us?
Im sure he played like Maradona against Fakenham and Dereham , and he looks well fat , this signing does nothing more than make the club even more of a laughing stock , but then when the manager is a laughing stock what do you expect .
Bryan Gunn may or may not turn out to be a very good manager........... But one thing is 100% certain.......... He is NOT a laughing stock. For you to hurl abuse at a guy who is nothing but a Norwich City legend is disgusting. A guy who cares deeply about our club. Its ironic that your whole name "Loan City FC" is designed to make fun of the previous managers use of the loan system. Now that Gunn has come in and annouced that he is going to build a squad with permanent players who WANT to play for NCFC you still hurl the BS. What does make our club a laughing stock is having "so called" fans like "Loan City FC" I won''t call you a supporter because you clearly hate everything about the club............(players, management and board)
 6.

My source tells me when (not if) Holt signs, Cureton will be sold to Barnsley - can anyone confirm this?
PLEASE BE TRUE! You mean, we will get money for him??!
Highly unlikely IMO. Think Gunn is happy to keep him - but would be even happier to offload his wages if it meant being able to sign someone like Maric. (As such, it might even involve a payment to Barnsley!). Think Cureton will do OK this season if he''s still a round though. Like it or not Gunn is having to balance fees and wages on a very tight budget and it appears he is winning the battle. Every decent player signed makes it easier to persuade others to come - including the all important striker. Russell will be an important sale - if only because it makes keeping Hoolahan more likely.
The best option would be if some club were willing to have him on a loan but with possible emergency recall. It would free the wages but also we would have him if we were hit badly by injuries.
 7.
Ok.....here is a summary of whats going on. Source: The usual reliable guy who hasn''t let me down. * Grant Holt.....True. Now en route to this fine city!! This excites me!! * Whaley and Wiggins.....Medicals with a couple of complications, hence the delays. * Maric....Asking for a fair bit of wonga, no decision made yet. * Paul McVeigh.....No decision yet but expect one by end of the week. Tin hat on but my source has always been accurate!
I think these sound about right......... Gunn mentioning players being able to play 50+ games and stringent medicals to protect NCFC suggests there are some problems with Whaley. Wiggins is currently injured so thats not the problem! Maric, has looked good but has no pedigree at any kind of high level. On the plus side he might have high wages but he also has no transfer fee. He would be our biggest gamble. Especially if we signed a long term deal. I think from the way Gunn has been talking McVeigh will be offered some kind of deal. He would be a decent squad/bench player at this level who could play at various positions.
 8. Its not even a Norwich XI....... LOL................ there are a total of 8 trialists in the team tonight.... Arghus, Paul, Lee-Barrett,  Slegg,  Mtandari, Chrysantho,  Powell and McVeigh
 9.
. There are five questions to be considered, of which the last is way the most important. 1. Has Gunn identified the gaps in the squad? Seemingly yes, although it would have been hard not to. 2. Has he started filling those gaps? Yes. 3. Has he filled all the gaps? No 4. How good are the acquisitions and rumoured acquisitions? Since few fans seem to have seem them play that''s hard to say. 5. Once he''s finished filling the gaps and the season starts, will he manage well what he''s acquired? On the basis of last season, which is all we have to go on, no. In short, so far all we have seen is a repeat of the January transfer window, when Gunn correctly identified the gaps, filled them, and then badly managed what he had acquired.
I agree with points 1-5 somewhat........... but......... The january transfer window is NOT the place to rebuild your squad when you have little money. Most quality free agents are available after June 30th in the summer window.......... Although Gunn did poorly it should be noted that it wasn''t HIS SQUAD. Obviously from his comments and the amount of players he has changed its a totally different philosophy of building a squad with OUR players on permanent signings along with solid youth development. In previous years we would target 3 players and if they didn''t work out we never had a plan B. Now we seem to have a plan C, D, E, F and G. The hard work to track down an incredible volume of transfers and trialists is impressive. There is no doubt we will have the largest squad of permanent players we have ever had in recent years. We also still have the option of the loan market to add some quality if we need it. Do we still need a quality striker even if we sign Maric?......... absolutely......... I also still have this sneaking feeling that Hucks hasn''t played his last game for us. If Gunn fails this year he can have no complaints of getting the sack. The club have backed him as much as they could given the circumstances.
 10.
The bid was turned down ages ago, not current news at all
Maybe you should visit canariesworld and listen to Bryan Gunn''s latest interview......
 11. It''s great that the "Drivel-ists" get there own thread where they can play pretend gang members.
 12.
Anybody else read the article about Hughes signing on the offy site and note his comments about how stringent the clubs medical procedures are? Well if it takes 3 days and counting to have a medical in Whaley''s case, how come Hughes was able to sign so easily? Are we to assume that Whaley has something fishy emerging? Someone has suggested swine flu but I don''t buy that one. And how bad can it be because Tudur-Jones was signed and he''s had some horrendous spells out with injury in the past?
I think its pretty clear something is up with the medical on one or more players we want to sign............. Gunn has to be careful with medical reports. Obviously from his comments about "protecting NCFC" it''s obvious they are seeking another professional opinion. It''s not uncommon for players to fail medicals and clubs pulling out of deals. Its not uncommon to renegotiate a deal based on medical advice (risk/reward) Gunn mentioned the fact that with all the first round cup draws we would probably be playing at least 50+ games this season so we need players who can last. I don''t think he could say any more without coming out and saying it directly. Which might lead to future legal problems.
 13.
With your concerns with signing a big striker.. I rekon Gunny has a specific transfer budget and he has quite a few gaps he wants filled. Hughes signed, Whaley and Wiggins having medicals. Maric offered a contract. Mcveigh likely to be also offered a 1-year deal. Askou the defender on trial impressing so possibly another signing there... I would imagine as Strikers cost the most normally he will want to get the signings sorted in the next week or so and then know where he stands within his budget for the goalscorers. Hopefully he will have something like 500k to grab two strikers maybe? If we got Maric i would be happy with Gunn bringing in just 1 more striker that is of good quality for half a million :)
Bingo.......... 100% spot on IMHO. Once the Clingan and Russell deals are sorted we will then know our "exact" budget to bring in that quality striker we need. If we sign Maric, Whaley, Wiggins. McVeigh and Askou.........I think we will be 1 quality striker away from being a very good squad in LG 1.
 14.
At the end of last season I was prepared to chuck it all in, hand back my season ticket and concentrate on coaching this season. It was apparent we had no money and I couldn''t work out how we were going to rebuild a squad that was wafer thin without any cash. I was underwhelmed by the appointment of Gunny and of the restructuring of the board, there didnt seem to be any new ideas or a change of approach. I''ve never been pro or anti Delia, its her money she can do what she wants with it but like everyone else I''ve been frustrated by how we''ve squandered any cash we''ve had, although in hindsight thats the various managers'' faults. The board are in a no win situation, back the managers judgement and get criticised for wasting money, don''t back the manager and get criticised for lack of ambition. You look through the names over the last 5 or 6 years of players who have been abject failures (altho not always their own fault) and you can see where all the money has gone, including Andy Hughes, Antoine Sibierski, Arturo Lupoli, Callum Davenport, Carl Cort, Carl Robinson, Chris Brown, Chris Killen, David Carney, David Strihavka, David Wright, Dean Marney, Elliott Omozusi, Elvis Hammond, Graham Stuart, Ian Murray, James Henry, Jamie Ashdown, Jason Jarrett, Jimmy Smith, John Hartson, John Kennedy, Jonatan Johansson, Juan Velasco, Julian Brellier, Jurgen Colin, Keiran Gibbs, Keith Briggs, Kevin Lisbie, Luke Chadwick, Mark Fotheringham, Mateo Rigters, Mattias Jonson, Mattieu Louis-Jean, Mo Camara, OJ Koroma, Paddy Boyle, Peter Thorne, Thomas Helveg, Tony Warner, Troy Archibald-Henville, Zema Abbey and Zesh Rehman. Yet something strange has happened, I was never really gonna hand back my season ticket, because I knew I''d come anyway and it would end up costing me more that way (even with teh 4 hour round trip for home games). We''ve slowly started to build a squad with cheap players who can do a job, yes we''ve got no money and we know we''ve got no money so there is no point dreaming of signing Ricky Lambert ;). What we appear to have is a squad of players with points to prove, whether it be those who have been here before or ones who are coming in. Its got to the stage where I am looking forward to the season and disappointed I can''t make either friendly, by the time we face Col U I am almost expecting us to have pulled together a squad with a little bit of quality, a steely determination, a better attitude and of players who we actually own. I would have settled for 2 out of 4 a month or so ago to be honest. Will the squad be good enough to challenge in league one, yeah on paper i reckon it will, will it be good enough to win the league, probably not. But get off to a good start, win 3 or 4 games in August and all of a sudden the qualities listed before will be enhanced further by a bit of confidence. The squad will take time to settle and that may not happen, but I expect by the time we get to October that however we start we''ll be there or there abouts.
I just dont agree with all the players you have suggested that were "abject failures" although most were to be fair. The one that blows my mind is Mo Camara, his arrival started one of the best unbeaten runs we have had in recent history. We went from rock bottom to talk of the playoffs! He added some much needed enthusiasm, quality and steel that we needed after the Grant era......... Ironically when we brought in more loan players and he lost his place, that was the start of us slipping back down the table.

 17.
As promised the final details of our inaugural Cabinet meeting can now be confirmed for the benefit of those invited members only.  The secret conference destination (mooted by The Butler) has been duly booked and a buffet plus bar facility has kindly been arranged by our host. Before business takes place... all eleven members will be presented with their exclusive monogrammed tie and membership card.... The "CLUCK... YOU KNOW HE MAKES SENSE" T-shirts have been printed in the various sizes ordered and will I''m sure prove popular. There will be a secret ballot by members to elect a new member who wishes to remain anonymous for business reasons. We have much work and planning to do if we are to return this fine club back to it''s grassroot supporters before it is too late and strategy suggestions prepared beforehand would be helpful. Mello Yello has agreed to record the minutes of the meeting which should prove interesting. I am delighted to announce that Mr. Robert Chase has agreed to be our Guest Speaker for the evening and the Life Membership offered duly accepted.... His topic for the talk will be... "Delia Smith.... A Recipe For Disaster"... We can certainly expect a lively debate thereafter I feel! Our grateful thanks must go to Towergate for their sponsorship and support of the group. All members to arrive at 7.00 pm prompt please.....        THE PURISTS... 19.
Two strikers, a left back and a right winger for me and we''re good to go. 22.

on EDP due to go through this week. £650k is a joke unless there are sell on clauses that are realistic ie we will get some cash from them. Would have rather kept him than sell on for that.......
Yeah, let''s keep him for another season, demotivated and unhappy, and then he can leave for free at the end of it.  Genius!
Exactly.......... its not like he has a track record of walking away from a club for free when his contract is up.......................  oh! We would in effect be paying 1 millon for 1 year from him....... That money could bring in 3 or 4 decent players who we actually own......... (lets not forget Clingan was a free agent himself.)
 23.

A player is worth what people are prepared to pay for him. If he is that highly thought of, many teams would be in for him.......... They arn''t...........
This is spot on, I think Coventry played a clever if not risky game. By saying they were going to sign him, and then changed their minds they flushed out anyone else who was interested. It turned out no-one else was interested and it now seems as if they have lowered their bid by 100k. Coventry hold all the cards here, we have been relegated and aren''t in a good place financially, Clingan has one year left on his contract and wants to leave - all these factors point to a quick cheap sell. Norwich could hold out for 1m, but they wouldn''t get it and come the Jan we would be moaning we didn''t take the 650k when we had the chance. We can only take what is offered. Don''t get me wrong Sammy is a good player, and when he played well, Norwich played well but there were a lot of games he didn''t play well in.
His name has been in the press for a number of weeks. Any club with money knows he is available for less than 800K yet.............no interest from anyone but Coventry or Leicester. (and Coventry was prepared to walk away over agent fees) So we are led to believe Fulham were prepared to pay 3 million 7 months ago but don''t want to pay 700K now. LOL........ OK. He is worth roughly what someone is prepared to pay on the open market. The fact he only has 1 year left on his contract is lost on some in this thread.............
