3.
442 predict us coming 15th!!! I for one hope this is not true, but I suppose they have Ipswich down as coming second in The Championship so I guess there predictions cannot be anything to go by! 4.
Canary Call is more than just ''Canary calls'' it''s also ''a useful tool''.......... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_Call Wiki never lies.  Canary Call is legendary.
This is a much better site for trying to understand canary call............... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_dialect
 5.
http://www.canaries.co.uk/page/NewsDetails/0,,10355~1746954,00.html (copy and paste it yourselves, stupid firefox wont do it...) Not very exciting but still...
My internal radar has been alerted by this appointment........... Is there a problem with the chairman''s position? Is this just a reward for Foulgers hard work or are they building a hierarchy in case the chairman leaves his position for some reason? I think many thought that Foulger would become chairman at some time or the other?
 6.
I will reach the game. However, I have to book a hotel in Yeovil, and wake up early to be back for meeting Wednesday morning in Woking... This will be the first time I see a Norwich away win live [:)] I have only been to three away games though. Reading 1997 (1-2), Birmingham 1999 (0-0) and Charlton 2007 (0-2).
I would have thought renting a car is not that much more expensive than buying train tickets and taxis.......... Treat yourself.... although I hope the weather is nice as the away end in uncovered at Yeovil.
 7.

Reading through all of this (thanks for posting you anointed few[:P] ) I was taken aback by McNally saying 7 out of 10 managerial appointments are successful. But then I guess it''s dependent on what people class as successful. The measuring stick for our club, at least how opinions on here read to me, would be top 6 Championship or better. That being the case only Worthington of the managers appointed by this board has been successful which is well below McNallys 70%. To put it into perspective Coventry City have had at least half a dozen managers since their relegation in 2001 and have never managed a top 6 finish. And a quick look at clubs up and down the land not matching their supporters expectations rather confirms my view that McNallys 70% is rather high unless his idea of successful is very different to the beliefs held on here. If we somehow manage to return to the Championship this season will Gunns appointment be deemed successful? After all we would only be returning to where we were when he took over.   I believe appointing managers is an absolute nightmare. I am quite happy that it appears the board are finally going back to producing a team and hopefully appointing from within. Peter Grant and Glen Roeder were huge expensive mistakes and none of their men were left to carry on beyond them. I hope that a new dynasty has been formed and the next manager of Norwich City is Butterworth or Crook.   When Roeder and Grant were appointed we were told that the board had taken advice from some very well respected footballing people. Now unless that advice was ignored they were quite obviously "led up the garden path". Although it''s true that the buck stops at the top, and advice or not they have to take responsibility for those failures, what more could they have done?   They have just appointed a new CE. Most of you seem to be impressed. I wonder what the success rate is for CE''s and what is used to measure that success.
I am going to partially disagree with some of the points of your post.......... Ultimately virtually every single manager is a failure because the sack is certain........... But I will actually contend that Glenn Roeder was NOT a failure on some levels........ Firstly he came into a disaster of a club/squad and managed to turn it around and keep us up when it looked like we were down. (That''s not a failure!) Secondly any assertion that he was an EXPENSIVE mistake are totally totally false........... If you look at his transfer dealings he actually sold FAR more than he spent............even if you don''t include Clingan. The high wages were not Roeders fault....... they were part of wage structure in place at the club since the Prem season. (a major part of our downfall) His biggest mistakes were his arrogance and going to the loan market in the second season after being successful in the first season. His arrogance totally lost the majority of fans which no manager can survive. It was amazing how he went from savior to villian so quickly.
I agree with much of what you say USA but I still believe Roeder was an expensive mistake. I wasn''t just referring to his dealings in the transfer market although it''s fair to say that loan signings like Sibierski were expensive mistakes. However, as I pointed out in that part of my post, he left very little behind when he was sacked. There was seemingly no real structure and we were relegated. That''s expensive! Grant and Roeder took this club down. Grant, with backing from the board, brought the standard of player down by a division and Roeder, along with the board, thought he could be cleverer than the rest by spending huge amounts of money on loan players. Two successive failures and no legacy. It''s interesting that many fans are happy to make excuses for both of them and yet the last manager to leave a decent legacy in his wake is till much maligned on here. I agree that Glen Roeder wasn''t a failure in his first season because he kept us up and that was how success would have been measured for him that season. But he subsequently took us to a lower point the following season so has to be a failure. Going back to the point I was making - I am still totally baffled by McNallys apparent claims that 70% of managerial appointments are succesful. In fact I agree more with Delia''s crystal ball comments[:O]
I will say I agree it sounds way too high but it''s all about context...................The context of what "success" is........... As an example Hull or Burnley would be thought of as highly succesful this year if they finished one place above relegation......... Either us or Leeds would be considered failures if we finished 7th in LG 1 Virtually every manager finishes on some kind of failure which leads to the sack....... The problem with "success" is only a few teams can achieve promotion, most are thought of as failure. Although some teams such as Scunthorpe or Doncaster are more than happy to retain championship status. Even saying that I would think the vast majority of "managerial stints" would be deemed failures. Obviously any early success makes a "managerial stint" longer than average.

 9. Ther comes a point when all the finger pointing is just a waste of time............ It should all be about how can we make the club successful going forward.............. Those who think Delia is some kind of "Evil Darth Vader" type character seem to have forgotten that they have appointed people like Bowkett who were very critical of the way the club was being run. McNally, based on his reputation is a man of principal.  Surely a person so "evil" and "conspiring" would have appointed yes men in positions of power.........Oh! Its ironic that a few of Delias staunchest detractors probably give her far too much credit........ The fact is mistakes have been made because Delia/MWJ are pretty naive and gave too much power/financial control to people like Doncaster and Mumby............ There comes a point where you have to stop the blubbing and move on. Trying to make things better in the future. Anyone claiming the current board has not backed Gunn is living in a dream world.

 11.
It''s not often that the first game of the season is a "must win" but I think this one is.  Remember the start of the Prem season?  Palace at home, what better chance to get our first win on the board straight away.  But we could only draw and it set the tone for the rest of the season. The nearer Saturday gets, the more it feels like one of those [+o(]
In our promotion season we drew 2-2 with Bradford (who ended up being relegated) and lost to Northampton in the carling cup in the next match................... That season didn''t turn out too bad.........

unfortunately I don''t think self sufficiency works in English Football these days LQ, and that line worries me a lot. To be succesful at the present time you need the club to be well run, AND have a benefactor with deep pockets, who is prepared to put money in and not neccesarily expect to see it again. And we do not have one. I will be convinced of the new Board''s ambition when we at least spend as much on incoming new players as we gain on outgoing ones. You can spend a lot of money and have a rubbish team and you can spend a lot of money and have a succesful team. But it''s very very difficult to gain real success without spending and we do not seem to have much to spend these days.
I agree with the above statement somewhat but I think you can achieve Prem status without it.............. A number of teams such as Burnley and Hull have done it on far less resources than we have currently............it''s still possible. Many have prayed for a rich outsider to come in and take over the club............... Look how that is currently working on the South coast................ Not so hot.......... At Southampton we have a billionaire owner who is content to keep his hands in his pockets while all their best players have been sold. At Portsmouth............. well frankly they have sold everyone with a pulse to cover debts and virtually anyone with an opinion thinks they are favs for relegation. (Poll among the journalists who follow the club rated them favs to go down) Football economics is very scary at the moment......... some of these rich investors are hurting the game by inflating wages and transfer fees...........This is a bubble waiting to burst. Ironically those clubs who cut their cloth might actually end up doing well if we see a number of bigger clubs collapse. People have knocked Liverpool, Man Utd and Asenal for selling these players even for incredibly silly money........... Personally I think they are very smart. Sir Alex is keeping the powder dry when Clubs like Man City and Real Madrid have run out of money and the valuations return to a reasonable level.
and agree with you up to a point, the clubs you quote in trouble either lost their benefactor or do not have a benefactor, ie rich owner does not neccesarily equal benefactor, only if prepared to spend some of their riches! As for Burnely and Hull I think they have been more ambitious than us over the last few years in my opinion. One example being Patterson to Burnely, our bidding stopped at 850k, I think they got him for 1mill, the rest is history. We wouldn''t pay the extra 250k required for Martin Taylor, so for the sake of 400k, approx the same amount the club has had to pay in rebates to fans, we quite possibly would not be kicking off in the 3rd division on Saturday. I do not have a problem if clubs come knocking on the door and offering us silly money for players, as long as that is reinvested in bringing in quality replacements, the main reason we find ourselves where we are is that this has not been done in the past few seasons.
Agree 100%, exactly. A rich owner is not worth squat if he is not willing to put his hands in his pockets........... The truth is Delia/MWJ and Foulger have put a "significant" % of their cash into the club relative to their total net worth. Probably a huge % if you figure in liquid assets not just paper ones that cannot be sold easilly. Delia/MWJ are not amongst the super rich in real terms. Most rich people got rich by being smart enough to not "invest" in things that will lose them money. Football is not an investment. The fact is anyone "investing" in football has a naive streak. Part of them wants to believe. I ceratinly didn''t buy shares in the club because I thought I was going to make a load of money LOL The truth is they have also made some huge mistakes in the past. I don''t think anyone can deny the facts. We can look at individual mistakes but frankly its a combination of many things which led to our downfall. The very start of our downfall was actually the promotion year we WON the championship............. The club dropped their guard and became somewhat arrogant even though everything rolled our way that year, we never really recovered from that high point. My feeling is Delia/MWJ will only be as successful as the people they bring into the club in board positions, because they are pretty naive football wise. Ironically IMHO I think history will show Doncaster and Mumby played a big part in some of the worst decisions by the club.  So far the board appointments this year look to have been very good ones IMHO. We have invested far more than any other LG1 team this year while cutting costs relative to our reduced income. I think virtually every team in this division would currently swap their squad for ours without blinking. There comes a point where we must acknowledge the mistakes of the past but also know that its what we do going forward is the only thing that can change our situation....... So far I think we are starting to head in the right direction as a club. Gunn may or may not be the right man as manager...... only time will tell. I am going to support him 100% until it''s proven that he is not the man to lead us back into the championship. OTBC
 18. How tall is Chris Martin? Tallest 5 10" player ever? He appears taller than Adeyemi who is rated 6 1" ? And much taller than Russell who is listed at 5 10" also? also if Grant Holt is 6" then Maric must be at least 6 2"

 20.
Three weeks ago I was rushed in to hospital and was told I had cancer. I have all but lost the ability to walk as the cancer is on the spine. My wife phoned the club to ask about changing my season to one in the disabled stand, which they said they would do no problem. They asked what was up with me and my wife explained all that had happend. Two days later a parcel arrived at mine and inside was a letter saying how sorry the club was to hear about my illness etc and wishing me well, plus a signed shirt. To me thats what our club is all about, what a lovely gesture that they didnt have to make. Cant imagine Man Utd or even Ipswich doing that. Thanks Norwich you cheered me up no end,
Its moments in life like this that make you realize that Bill Shankly was only half joking.......... Football is an important part of our lives because often we have made friends through a shared passion......... The shared experiences are what make a life......... the ups and downs..........the trials and tribulations......... A football club that doesn''t understand that the passion we all share goes much deeper than a pure business transaction, has lost its soul. I genuinely wish you well and hope that you enjoy the upcoming season. If the players can match half your fight, courage and passion then we will have the championship won by Easter.
 21. Of course there is nothing concrete in the rumors but I will say this............ If we sell it will blow my mind after we have spent the whole of the pre-season basically playing a style/formation which suits Hoolahan role.......... Some advice for the board..........if we sell Hoolahan (a) it better be for a shed load of money (b) Hucks better be walking in the door just as Hoolahan is walking out............ Anything short of the above would probably kill a lot of the goodwill the club has built with the fans over the summer.........   Saying that......... Hoolahan is the kind of player you build your team around which leads to many problems.............. Ironically before the pre-season most people were not too upset if we let Hoolahan go. (most were in favor of swapping Hoolahan for Alan Lee)
 22.
I guess the 16mil. I think most wealthy people would be able to renegotiate the debt and any spending would be up to the new owners, altho i''m sure Delia would be likely to demand to know how much any new owner would put into new players.
If you could renegotiate the debt I think you could become majority shareholder for around 8-10 million IMHO......... Just because somone Rich takes over a club doesn''t mean anything.......... Look at Southampton......... Most rich people became rich by being smart and keeping their hand in their pocket.............Football is basically a money pit for most "investors"
 23.
Have to say that I am surprised by 442, used to think that they were more of a ''proper'' mag but perhaps they are going the way of everyone else and only being interested in the top league(s). Southend and Brentford in particular have done nothing much at all to suggest that they will be in the top 3, and the bookies certainly don''t agree with 442: a quick look on easyodds.com shows the best odds for us to achieve promotion (ie not just to win the league) = 9/4, second favourites behind Leeds; Brentford are 14th (12/1) and Southend 10th at 8/1....imo that is surely far more realistic. Still, predictions are just that, and everyone''s entitled to their view: we just have to show how wrong they are.
If you have two opinions that are wildly different. One is some magazine and the other is the sportsbetting market place then you should always go with the sportbetting market place...... It''s not even close................. I bet you could get odds of 2 to 1 or better on Norwich finishing 15th or worse. I would personally offer those odds. Someone should call out this mag and ask them WHY they think we will finish 15th when we are one of the bookies favs for promotion.........
 24.

I don''t have a question for the board as such LQ because it won''t matter a jot what they answer. At the end of the day if we win football matches the ordinary fan will soon lose interest in the boardroom but if we have another disappointing season there will be calls for the boards heads. We''re a football club and that''s the way of it. No answers that the board could give would change that fact. I do have a question for you though : I believe the forming of the SCG and other fans initiatives came through people who are no longer at the club. Do you believe these things will carry on under the new board?
Exactly, spot on Nutty... [Y] As The Butler and Myself have suggested many times, those running our club need to be set some kind of targets throughout the season to match. If come the end of September/start of October things are going as most fans are now expecting them to go and we are sat up there in the top 6 then I am sure the team will continue to receive most fans backing and what is going on within the boardroom will take much more of a back seat.  Anything short or that however and questions will obviously start be raised. First and foremost, we as a group of fans need to decide what is an acceptable performance for this coming season.  For example, some say that just getting in to the play-offs without promotion would be acceptable, I would say that it is not and anything less than promotion at the first attempt without significant fresh investment being found will mean yet another year of our club moving in the wrong direction. I get the feeling that some fans would even take a 7th or 8th place finish? I think that anything short of a swift return to the Championship and the offer of a suitable budget given to Mr Gunn to keep us there is failing the club and the city once more. To be fair, I think that we may have a squad capable of competing at this level.  I am still not sure though if we may find ourselves lacking in that extra bit of quality required to make the difference between success and failure.  I will not be happy if come the end of the season they are claiming poverty yet again for not having one or two real quality individuals who could of made the difference, as yet more cutbacks are made to balance the books. I think that there should be further meetings throughout the season to assess whether we are on track to achieve the above goals or not.
Who kidnapped Smudger? It certainly wasn''t "moan city fc" Seriously......... I actually disagree. I think based on the backing the board/fans has given Gunn compared to every team in LG1 and most in the champs..........8th place would be a huge failure. I honestly think that if we are not top 6 by Xmas that the board will sack Gunn. The new chairman has already said its a "results based business" With the amount spent we should demand results. We should mark this day down in history................ Semi looks like a world beater and Smudger posts something almost positive...............
