1.
Anyone else in this situation? My 12 year old has played for NCFC Academy (against Arsenal, Spurs and Fulham last season) but not given a place in the Academy set-up. He''s had 2 more trial games in the dome in January this year - scoring a hat-trick in one session and an excellent header in the second game. He gets glowing reports from the PDC where he plays every week - yet nothing from NCFC... He even played in an u-16 trial game during the summer and scored the opening goal at Carrow Rd with a run into the area and a rising shot into the roof of the net at the Barclay End. Not bad considering most players that day were at least 3 years older... A scout from Ipswich has just called to ask where my son is playing this Sunday because they want to watch him. He dreams of getting some Academy training to make progress - but only ever wanted to wear yellow & green. After the dithering at Colney I suppose ITFC is the next best option if they offer him a place? We''re both NCFC season ticket holders and know nothing else. Hell this is a tricky one!
I think you should absolutely look into getting a place at Ipswich but as suggested, after you have officially been offered a place you should contact the club one last time.

There is an old saying that "it''s easier to get a job when you have a job"

  2. The fact that he suggested we don''t have to sell our major players but did hint that Lambert will have to move on some of the fringe squad players on.

The first one the springs to mind is Cureton because of his wages.
I would think he would be let go for free/loaned if we can get someone to take over is contract.

I still feel he will move on Semi, if he gets the chance.
Again big wages and out of contract. plus we now have cover.
If Spillane comes back something must give.

Midfield looks like Gill and OTJ are not in favor so could be moved on.

The left midfield spot can be covered by Lappin and also Wiggins (we need a defensive player in that spot) in front of Drury.
On the right we now have McNamee but in front of Semi it would be very fast but a possible defensive nightmare.

Something I doubt that Lambert will want.

From what I can see the Lambert plan is to bring in Martin so he can play McNamee in front and give him some freedom.
To me it looks like Semi''s day are numbered in the long term.

In the middle/right we have Hughes, Tom Adeyemi, Smith and Russell so that looks enough cover with McVeigh/Spillane being able to fill in various roles from the bench if we get really short handed.
Dawkin has also proven to be a decent midfield player who can do a job

Overall I think the following could be on the outs

    Cureton
    Semi
    Maric
    Gill
    OTJ
    Whaley
    Theoklitos

Plus I think that there is an outside chance Russell could leave in Jan.

He is out of contract in the summer and we may cash in now rather than seeing him walk on a free.
    Obviously Burnley were interested pre-season.

If we offloaded the above players it would save the club a lot of money plus allow us to buy Martin and McNamme. (and maybe Seabourne + Striker)

I think I read that OTJ fee is tied to appearances and promotion so could save us more than just his wages.

  3.

Who in their right mind would sign Semmy though??? The blokes had about 3 good games in a season and a half, thought he was decent his first season with us in his defense but unless Crewe were to come back in for him I duno who''d take him on.
We Have Managed To Get Whaley Out On Loan To 2 Different Clubs, So We Will Be Able To Sell Semi Easy! [:P]
And to be fair to Simon Whaley he has done pretty well at both clubs. He looks a class above LG2

The problem is his style and attitude don''t fit into what Paul Lambert is trying to build at the club.

Lambert has made that perfectly clear that team spirit/attitude is very important when talking about Whaley.

I predict Whaley will be let go in Jan to get his wages off the books.

  4. Just for interest Russell Martin did an interview on CW today

When asked if he knew any of the players at the club he said he didn''t except Gary Holt (ex-Wycombe connection)

He did mention that Gary had been helping him find a place in the area.

It seem strange that a "loan player" who is "only" here for the next month is looking for a place in the area!

Wink wink, nudge nudge............ say no more!

  5. firstly his name will be a commentators nightmare

We have Martin, we have Russell, now we have Russell Martin...........

He had better get a nick name quickly!

From reading between the lines this is not a typical loan deal like Forster.

The fact we can play him in all competitions suggests this is already a permanent done deal.

(like the Etuhu deal with Preston)

In his interview today Martin never hesitated when asked if he wanted to stay on a permanent basis.

The stock answer from loan players is normally to see how things go.

He said hopefully Norwich would sign him on a permanent basis. End of

IMHO it''s already a done deal.

He mentioned that Norwich (McNally?) and Barry Fry spent a couple of days working out a deal which suggests its more than a typical loan deal.

I think this deal suggests what we already knew.

Lambert doesn''t rate Semi. And is only playing him because he had no options left.

Bringing in Martin may give us the option of selling Semi in Jan if Spillane comes back.
Spillane would be a great bench player who can fill in a number of positions.

  6. Getting promoted to the champs is worth at least 5 million

Even if we sold Wes we would have to replace him which wouldnt be cheap.

If we hit a slump and drop out of the top six by Jan I could see us selling but while we have a shot at auto promotion we should keep him.

Rumours abound that Charlton are in real financial trouble and will be forced to sell some players in the new year.

I think we just need to hold onto the players we have and add a little quality via the loan market as Worthy did in our promotion season.

Our current squad is as good as any squad in this division and better than most.

  7. Why not both?

    Would you prefer.........

    Askou   Nelson Doc  Drury

    or

    Semi    Askou   Doc  Drury

    I would personally prefer

    Spillane Askou   Doc  Drury

But thats not happening for a while..........

I think its actually pretty nice we have 3 decent CBs, when Spillane returns we have the option of 4

  8.

It has been changed recently then. That''s handy. Lappin and Holt to whip their tops off on Saturday even if they don''t score then....
Haha. The Doc scores and Lappin and Holt whip their shirts off and start dancing around him waving their shirts like Morris dancers and their hankies.

    PRICELESS ! ! !
Haha, would be a classic. And probably get some media attention [:P]
I would be very careful, The FA has no sense of humor about those who use the rules to gain an advantage.

They want to make it look as real as possible.

  9. If its true we can use the JPT...........................

The bottom line is that promotion is our number 1 aim.

Our best chance is having Holt and Lappin playing in as many LG 1 games as possible.

I thought Holt may have been booked on Saturday because according to lambert he is carrying a niggling injury.

But if he gets booked in the FA cup (and misses JPT which he was probably not going to play in anyway) it makes perfect sense.

We EARNED the right to use the JPT for these suspensions by winning previous rounds.

I think Lambert really knows what he is doing.

    He cannot admit this publically.

I expect the bookings to look very real, such as kicking/throwing the ball away in temper or even hacking someone down.
Haven''t ever been his biggest fan, but to be fair to Lawrenson, when this was recorded (seems to have been at the end of August) there were plenty of our own supporters saying much the same!
And to be fair it has never been fully answered why the board allowed Gunn to buy so many players if they really had as little faith in him as we are lead to believe........

The local press never bothered to try too hard to get an answer............

Maybe the real truth of Gunn''s sacking is somewhat different to the events described by McNally and the club.

And FWIW I think Paul Lambert may be the single best thing to happen to the club in a long time............

Shame he is currently scrambling for transfer fees (Seabourne) because the previous manager appears to have blown most of the budget.

The board must share some of the blame as the OK''d every single transfer.
Of course the Board must take some of the the blame for Gunn''s bad signings in the same way they and Gunn should take credit for the good signings. Are you saying that it''s a shame that Gunn blew the bulk of his budget on Holt and Hughes ? ha ha. How big do you think Gunn''s budget was anyway ?! And of course, the reasons for Gunn''s departure are very different from those stated. Some say that Lambert''s arrival was a done deal before the opening game of the season but I wouldn''t like to comment on that. Gunn is much maligned but that''s in the nature of people especially most on here. It seems so ridiculous to keep saying this but Lambert''s success is with the squad of players that Gunn assembled. Apart from that disastrous one-off opening game Gunn had resolutely cleared out players, gave youth their chance (this new policy was not started by Lambert as so many claim on here) , brought in some real quality but made a howler with the appointment of Theoklitis. Days after the Colchester disaster I went, with trepidation and apprehension, to Yeovil and what did I see ? I saw fabulous attacking football from a group of highly motivated players, Hoolahan playing from the start and 4 goals away from home. His signings Hughes and Holt were immense and the team/squad sheet is basically the blueprint with which Lambert has achieved success with - except that it took the stubborn Lambert too long to swallow his pride and play Hoolahan. Anyway, that scintillating 4-0 away victory was not scripted and must have really p_____d off the powers that be and they still sacked him the next day. As I said, the die was already cast and IMO Gunn was wanted out before the start of the season and he knew it. Praise Lambert if you want and of course as the current Norwich manager he has my support but there is no need to carry on this mindless, thoughtless criticism of Gunn.
Holy smoke....... my post had nothing to do with Gunn. I have no idea wheer you came up with your rant.

I am actually one of the few who has said he signed some decent players............

The bottom line is Gunn could not motivate the players last season and we were easily relegated. (results based business)

I think he was incredibly lucky to be offered another shot after frankly failing badly.

You cannot dismiss the Colchester result as if it didn''t happen..........We were destroyed........ worst result in our history at Carrow road.

Lambert exposed the tactical naivety that Gunn showed.

Its also interesting that Lambert was amazed how poor the fitness levels were at the club............

There were obviously some major underlying problems at the club.

IMHO Gunn may have been sacked a bit early but it was only delaying the inevitable.

It should be obvious to everyone that Paul Lambert is far superior manager to Bryan Gunn............. I think we made the correct decision but maybe the timing was poor.

We should have been brave and sacked/demoted Gunn and brought in Lambert in the summer.

  12.
Quality! Bit harsh on Theo. No-one covered themselves in glory v Colchester.
I was one of the few who thought he took way too much of the blame for the Colchester game............

He deserves it for letting us down the other night by not showing up..........

Totally unprofessional............. he needs to work very hard and beg forgiveness from the fans for letting them down.

If we had lost Forster in that game I am pretty sure he would not have a job right now.

  13.
ESPN and FOX Soccer don''t show Colaship or League 1, Just Prem. Setanta shows these games and they have plumped for Leicester that day...

    http://www.setanta.com/us/TV-Listings/

Bummer. Adams and Goreham for us NY''ers.
Why?

If you have a laptop and a reasonably fast internet connection you can watch it online if its being shown on sky.

    There are often multiple streams.

It wont be HD quality but its often very watchable.

I wish the club would stream every game live via the internet.

I would personally be happy to pay the price of  a season ticket for such a subscription.

Even select games not on the TV would be fantastic.

I''ll be in Las Vegas when the Leeds v City game is screened live. It will kick off about mid-day Vegas time. Does anyone know where or whether I will be able to see the game televised? Any well known casinos or sports bars?

    Thanks[:D]
I have been to Vegas many times in recent years.............your best bet by far is bringing a laptop and finding an internet stream.

There are normally loads if the game is on sky. Vegas is west coast time so it is 8 hours behind England.

Might be woth trying the following place closer to the date to see what they are showing........

    http://www.crownandanchorlv.com/index2.html

Its a British Soccer pub in Vegas just off Tropicana, Its about 1.5 miles off the south end of the strip.

  15.
So who is the player he thinks is hiding in this season''s squad?
I think it''s Semmy............ he was horrific against Colchester.

Theo got way too much blame in that game and Semmy didn''t get enough.

I think he "hides" by making some good runs and using his pace to make up for bad positioning.

Losing Spillane for a while is a big big loss. Lambert just said so today.
