Something else not happening either
...by the looks of it. Some border checks set to be delayed for the nth time.

Commission proposes Brexit deal for 18 to 30 year olds
Lisa O'CarrollThe European Commission has proposed opening negotiations with the UK to allow free movement enjoyed before Brexit to millions of 18 to 30 year olds in a major post Brexit concession.
It said it will now seek approval from individual EU leaders to start the talks which will see one of the most controversial elements of Brexit, a block on the right to live in each others countries visa free, partially eliminated.
Under the envisaged agreement, both EU and UK citizens aged between 18 to 30 years would be able to stay for up to 4 years in the destination country, the European Commission said in a detailed statement.
“The objective would be to facilitate youth exchanges, making it easier for young EU citizens to travel, work and live in the UK, with reciprocity for young UK nationals in a member state,” the Commission said.
A good idea
Not going to happen, though

I can't agree with a law that will allow adults of a certain age to buy something that other adults a year younger cannot
Also, this is a devolved issue which only applies to England. I can foresee tobacco trips to towns across the borders in Scotland and Wales. People buying hundreds of fags at a time, maybe even "dealers" buying thousands for redistributing in England to the smokers.

Ive not read much about Rayners case.
Personally, I'm currently considering selling the only house I've ever owned. Because I haven't lived in it for many years, it seems I'm liable for CGT. As I want to use the proceeds to buy another house, this doesn't seem right. But the laws the law. Guess I'll need a lawyer 😧

Yes, every cloud, etc...
I think I went to nearly every game, home and away, that promotion season

Our last game of the season was Chelsea away, also after the end of the "regular" season. It rained like hell and the pitch was totally unplayable. The ball was literally floating in some places
We won 2-1 and went home happy knowing that our place in division 1 was secure as there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell of Coventry winning 3 on the spin.....

She's the one I've seen, several times in Sleater Kinney
Interesting that the forum no longer seems to allow some special characters for certain words. Let's try a few others

The 10 best guitar soloists of all time
Loads of these sorts of lists pop up in my feed. They are largely subjective and just one persons opinion, of course, though I think there are a few names most would agree on.
I have only seen one of the guitarists on this list, and that´s the one that´s probably the biggest surprise inclusion. I´ve also seen one that isn´t mentioned, but usually does feature on "best guitarists" lists
- Eddie Van Halen
- Prince
- Jack White
- Carrie Brownstein
- Brian May
- David Gilmour
- Chuck Berry
- ** Dale
- Jimmy Page
- Jimi Hendrix

This research briefing has considered the effects of the UK´s possible withdrawal from the ECHR. As well as the previously mentioned links with the GFA, there are also some implications regarding the Brexit deal, devolution and UN. I´m sure it would be possible to find a workaround for some of those, but I suspect it will take a lot of time, effort & money the country would be better off investing elsewhere.
"The European Convention is referred to in the Belfast/ Good Friday Agreement, the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, and the devolution settlements with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Departure could thus have implications for the peace agreement in Northern Ireland; ongoing cooperation in criminal justice procedures with the EU; and relationships with the devolved nations.
Moreover, many of these obligations are also found in UN human rights treaties, or even in customary international law. This means the UK could still be bound by these obligations even if it were to withdraw from this treaty."

Anyways - for all the obvious reasons leaving the EUCHR is 'for the birds' (notice period 6 months too). It's just a dog whistle by a desperate Sunak.
My understanding is that the UK would need an act of parliament to repeal the Human Rights act in order to leave ECHR
I'm not sure Sunak would have the support in parliament to do that

I think "Rock and Roll" is still used in American sports stadia. I guess they either don't know or don't care?
As a young boy in the early 70's, Gary Glitter was my first musical love. I had all his singles. It's difficult to even think of listening to him now

That sounds ok to me, but If the developers have influence over local and/or national politicians, it might be awkward to implement
Another option is to bring all the empty homes the UK already has back into use

12 minutes ago, Barbe bleu said:Define 'suitable'. There's enough land for sure, but whether or not its suitable depends on what you value
That's a good question
The answer would be land that all stakeholders agree is acceptable to build on. Councils, local communities, contractors...
Nimbyism might get in the way. There was also an issue with developers buying land and sitting on it for years, I don't know if this is still a problem?

32 minutes ago, Fen Canary said:It’s really not difficult to solve. Simply build council houses at a rate of knots so young families currently priced out of homeownership can rent off the council rather than being forced into renting privately. Take away the demand for private rentals and you’ll see large numbers of them coming back onto the market as they’re no longer profitable, which in turn should reduce house prices.
Rents could also be set in the council houses at 25% of household income, which would leave these families with cash to either save a deposit or spend in the wider economy creating jobs and economic growth
In principle this is a good idea
I have a couple of questions, open to anyone who wants to answer. I'm no longer as close to the action in the uk as I used to be 😊
Does the uk have the available resources, including contractors and labour, to deliver this?
Is there an issue with availability of suitable land?

there seems to be some debate about who wrote it, but almost certainly an Englishman.
What´s in no doubt is that many countries have used it at some point.
I think I´d keep it for the UK, as it has been used so long, but England should have something different
