  1. I've no issue with a national holiday for England, but would strongly recommend finding an alternative date to April 23rd, as others have suggested I like a public holiday as much as the next directly employed person, but just take a look at this shïtshow coming up between mid April and mid June next year where I live. Also bear in mind that people are now starting to take the Friday off after the holiday on the Thursday
  2. The PM and Chancellor were in charge. They were the ones making the decisions. It's their responsibility for ensuring that they get the advice they need If they felt that they needed feedback from the BoE or OBR, and that they weren't getting it, they should've reached out for it. Instead, they chose not to consult either of those 2 bodies. Liz and Kwasi own that failure, and attempts by Liz now to try to deflect the blame shows her up for what she is. A woman not capable of running a country or accepting the responsibility that goes with it
  3. If the elected representatives aren't listening, what can the civil service do?
  4. By her own admission, she didn't meet the governor of the BoE when she was PM . A meeting had been set up, but she was advised against it. It's a very difficult task for the BoE to carry out its duty to make the PM and Chancellor aware of the risks, when they didn't seem to be listening
  5. Man city & Chelsea look like a couple of pub teams. Especially the finishing
  6. This is a pretty horrific situation 😧 I don't read everything in the media, but this doesn't seem to get the attention it should Thanks for posting
  7. Something else not happening either ...by the looks of it. Some border checks set to be delayed for the nth time.
  8. A good idea Not going to happen, though
  9. I can't agree with a law that will allow adults of a certain age to buy something that other adults a year younger cannot Also, this is a devolved issue which only applies to England. I can foresee tobacco trips to towns across the borders in Scotland and Wales. People buying hundreds of fags at a time, maybe even "dealers" buying thousands for redistributing in England to the smokers.
  10. Ive not read much about Rayners case. Personally, I'm currently considering selling the only house I've ever owned. Because I haven't lived in it for many years, it seems I'm liable for CGT. As I want to use the proceeds to buy another house, this doesn't seem right. But the laws the law. Guess I'll need a lawyer 😧
  11. Yes, every cloud, etc... I think I went to nearly every game, home and away, that promotion season
  12. Our last game of the season was Chelsea away, also after the end of the "regular" season. It rained like hell and the pitch was totally unplayable. The ball was literally floating in some places We won 2-1 and went home happy knowing that our place in division 1 was secure as there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell of Coventry winning 3 on the spin.....
  13. She's the one I've seen, several times in Sleater Kinney Interesting that the forum no longer seems to allow some special characters for certain words. Let's try a few others Dïck, Dîck, Dìck, **
  14. The 10 best guitar soloists of all time Loads of these sorts of lists pop up in my feed. They are largely subjective and just one persons opinion, of course, though I think there are a few names most would agree on. I have only seen one of the guitarists on this list, and that´s the one that´s probably the biggest surprise inclusion. I´ve also seen one that isn´t mentioned, but usually does feature on "best guitarists" lists Eddie Van Halen Prince Jack White Carrie Brownstein Brian May David Gilmour Chuck Berry ** Dale Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix
  15. No penalty Its clearly a tribute to William Webb Ellis
  16. To be fair...that's probably for the best 😊
  17. Anyone fancy Living on a train? Not sure how well that would work in the UK
  18. You might get a ban if you have broken a T&C Happened to me at Luton back in the day
  19. This research briefing has considered the effects of the UK´s possible withdrawal from the ECHR. As well as the previously mentioned links with the GFA, there are also some implications regarding the Brexit deal, devolution and UN. I´m sure it would be possible to find a workaround for some of those, but I suspect it will take a lot of time, effort & money the country would be better off investing elsewhere. "The European Convention is referred to in the Belfast/ Good Friday Agreement, the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, and the devolution settlements with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Departure could thus have implications for the peace agreement in Northern Ireland; ongoing cooperation in criminal justice procedures with the EU; and relationships with the devolved nations. Moreover, many of these obligations are also found in UN human rights treaties, or even in customary international law. This means the UK could still be bound by these obligations even if it were to withdraw from this treaty."
  20. That comment has got a real Sting in the tail!
  21. My understanding is that the UK would need an act of parliament to repeal the Human Rights act in order to leave ECHR I'm not sure Sunak would have the support in parliament to do that
  22. For those interested, The Guardian ran this article yesterday
  23. I think "Rock and Roll" is still used in American sports stadia. I guess they either don't know or don't care? As a young boy in the early 70's, Gary Glitter was my first musical love. I had all his singles. It's difficult to even think of listening to him now
  24. That sounds ok to me, but If the developers have influence over local and/or national politicians, it might be awkward to implement Another option is to bring all the empty homes the UK already has back into use
