  1. Fulham did just recently, but two of those promotions were from play offs.
  2. Georgie Best, Cruyff, Messi all up there but Pele...the greatest. RIP.
  3. Cant see it, think he is safe for the season...having said that if we get at most 3 wins in our next 12 games we will be likely lower mid table...10th to 14th maybe and from there on in its bottom 6 not top 6 we will be looking at. Maybe by then the alarm bells will finally be ringing in SW's head.... Goodness forbid this carries on into next season and some club south of us bonk us 3-0 in an early season home game with us playing as if we deserve L1 status.
  4. Agree to a point, especially the financial side of things at this moment in time, but the present outlook makes it seem that it could change drastically and quickly over the next 12-18 months. We are nailed on to finish around mid table this season, as for squad well...on paper there is no comparison but out on the pitch its been dour with no excitement at all. A squad on decent wages, even for the Champs but playing such boring and dire football...so attendances down, fanbase very vociferous about their feelings, no Premier pots of gold coming our way in all likelihood etc etc...and no real knowledge as yet what will happen with the Attanasio side of things. Admittedly its never easy for a club like ours to change a manager / head coach and his baggage without it costing money that could have been put to use elsewhere and just looking at it right now we are top 6...but Saturday should have told the owners / board etc how the fanbase are feeling and its the fans who are the clubs lifeblood. Under Dean Smith we are headed for mid table mediocrity season after season, dwindling attendances, lethargic entertainment and for the club financially much more purse tightening. Im sure SW wanting to boot a guy only 13 months into the job is far from his ideal but it lays on him to do it...he did it with DF who had a general warmth and rapport with fans...and Dean Smith has none of that.
  5. Its not neccesarily the results...i never expected us this season to be anything other than mid table finish...but the performances...drab, dire, no style, no excitement, nothing at all on the pitch to see what Smith is trying to do with his players. If the Carra faithful have turned im sure SW and the board know it and feel it...and have to act...no sense in hanging around or dragging things out, its past the point of no return.
  6. Blackburn...yea, they kind of sum up what this division is about this season, suffering 10 defeats before half the season is out yet sitting 3rd. I just wonder actually if fans of most of the Champs clubs this season can really be fully behind their respective manager / head coach as no one team is romping away with the division, its hard to see any team getting near the 94 / 97 points of our title winning seasons. We could possibly string a few wins together, as we did earlier in the season, but the real key would not be those wins but how consistent getting points will be after such a scenario. As for Deano himself it feels much like the fans of his previous clubs felt about him...he's not great, not awful, just sort of decent and ok...oddly enough much like the general situation of our whole club right now..we have proved time and again not to be anywhere near a great Premier side but sit 4th in the Champs which is decent and ok...given lots of other clubs would love to be where we are right now im sure...and the future?..much seems to rest onn the Attanasio involvement, which is another topic entirely.
  7. No, Fulham became the first team in history to achieve 3 succesive promotions to the top tier after 3 successive relegations from the top tier but that included play off final wins after finishing 3rd and 4th in those 2 seasons., so you are correct, history in the 2nd tier says its unrealistic.
  8. If i thought any Tory MP was half decent to be PM it would be Penny Mourdant but really hope she does not get elected for this...let Sunak be the latest short lived Tory PM of 18 months or so before Starmer gets in...its a crazy and wacky not so merry go round to be leader right now.
  9. Your reply does have some merit, others im sure will point out that the FPTP system has served the nation well for generation after generation..but perhaps that is a topic all by itself and not one concentrating on the present Government and its leadership.
  10. No more so than than the trend of recent decades which show any party governing more than a decade find it increasingly harder to keep hold of power in any form of stability. Once Thatcher's time was up the Tories found it increasingly hard to keep that sense of stability. When Blair entered in 97 it was all fine for a time...once Labour had chalked up a decade or so of governing it felt like change was due. The Tories have governed over a decade now and are just there until the next GE when Labour should sweep in. But Tories and Labour are no better or worse than each other at any given point in time in my opinion..Labour will sweep in...not because of their huge popularity but because it is time up for the other lot..and such is how it goes with the two main parties...the failure of any kind of 3rd party to upset this systm is why it continues . Simple but true.
  11. Think those who are prone to the cold are feeling it right now, partly due to the long, hot and dry Summer we just had, just a short few weeks ago it was in the 90s or higher and suddenly we are back to normal service with rain and 50s in the day and 40s at night..thats a big drop and not what we are used to. Would be ironic if us and Europe in general had a pretty long and harshly cold Dec to Feb winter...we are for sure due one and the way things are going......well, lets hope its not.
  12. Sterling rock bottom against the Dollar, Food and Energy prices sky rocketing, Inflation sky rocketing, workers in various sectors planning strikes...feels like the 1970's again. On top of that we lose Liz our head of state and we gain Liz our political leader who dumps highest tax level (lead balloon) and borrows money with exhuberance. Its hard to say how much the huge influences of Brexit then Covid then Putin have had as opposed to Government actions as there has been and is global interference of course...but there are huge strains and pressures on everyday life right now. Am happy that im not a politician, all i and we in general can do is cut our own cloth if we can and need to and be kind to one another.
  13. I think the embers of Empire burnt out quite a long time ago..but yes, at the start of the Queens reign...even before then, in her 1947 speech when she dedicated her life to the service to country she spoke of "the Imperial family" there were still many nations to break the shackles of British imperialism. But in her 70 year reign she has been the Monarch to see a massive change. Back in 1952 this nation was hugely white and home grown but look at how multi cultural Britain is today, and lots of ethnic peoples coming to live here from the very nations Britain once ruled. Yes, we all know things like slavery etc happened in those Imperialistic times and yes, this nation ended with the biggest slice of nation ruled territories, but let us not forget that from 2, 3, 400 years ago up until the first part of the 20th century it was a European thing, not just British. The Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and French had their colonies to and were far from sqeaky clean to. The Italians and Germans also had colonies in Africa in early 20th Century to. If the very first smoulderings of Empire started around the time of the first Elizabethan era, then yes YF, if any such embers remain, i agree with you, let them be extinguished totally with the passing of the 2nd Elizabethan era.
  14. We managed last time in the Champs when Covid caused the season to start in mid September...yes with the World Cup gobbling nearly a month away to itll be midweek games every week when teams can play...least we are slightly better off than Coventry, its gonna be a fixture pile up for them no doubting.
  15. If they do get promoted then fine, merit deserved i guess as much as any other club gaining promotion. But as to the actual question, how could any City fan "quite like" to see them in the Champs?..no is the only answer, they would have the same answer to im sure if roles had been reversed these past couple of decades.
  16. No score predicts from me but presumably Hull are a very attack minded team so that wories me a bit. With Lungi at LB probably it could open the way for both Sara and Nunez to play together which would be interesting. Think Hull will win this by a goal or two, leaving us badly needing points against Huddersfield and Millwall, going with 4 points from those.
  17. I like Lungi to and right now, with our full backs dropping like nine pins, we are lucky to have him with us, even if its as a utility player. He will do a good enough job at LB im sure, as he once did in the Farke era.
  18. With Dimi out for awhile, could drop Lungi into that position as he has played there before and keep McCallum fresh for the weekend. Would love to see Jordan get a start up front, he did nothing wrong in pre season and gives him a chance to remind Deano hes still good enough to hassle Champs teams and even get a goal or two.
  19. Depends..are you just talking about the team only and where they will finish in the Champs or about the whole club in general for the coming season? As your topic does not specify that i will just go with the club as a whole as that is what i always look at. City as a club financially seem to be in much better shape than most in the Champs, thx to the Board and Mr. Webber, to we may have board changes involving the Milwaukee connection, that is a WIP it seems. Player numbers to have seemed to be more than trimmed, which had to be done of course. As for on the pitch, its so so very hard to tell. I would be gobsmacked if we achieved promotion for the 3rd time on the bounce...history shows its never happened before. In DF's first season we finished mid table and that lot down the road even managed to drag above us by a hairs breadth...my only gauranteed optimism on that is we will be higher than them still come end season. Overall im optimistic for the club as a whole in the coming season but unknown about the pitch side of it..its far to early to be one thing or another, but hope is what fans always have...thats the killer aint it.
  20. To early to say, the transfer window does not shut until end August, we have yet to see Hayden or Sara play for us never mind knit into the team, there maybe one or two more incomings..all i can see is City getting off to a pretty disapointing first month or two...after that who knows. No club in the English 2nd tier has ever been Champions for 3 consecutive seasons they played in that tier so i think that is not happening. Other than that predicting right now is futile but ok...somewhere between 1st and 24th.
  21. Who needs Gayle when we have Hugill 🤪
  22. It was reported as 4.something mill, and John Percy is saying City are understood to be receiving 3.5 mill for the sale of PLM, so its not a massive loss financially.
  23. Agreed. Penny M did well to get 105 votes but end of the day the Tory MPs were 100% certain to shoot their party in the foot by voting Sunak and Truss into the final two. Whoever wins they will likely drag the Tories on in power for another year or two but the next GE should see a change of the guard...not because Labour are any better than the Tories imo but that the Tories have been in power for over a decade now and its just a natural change over as how our nation's voting always pans out.
  24. Only the Tory Party could have voted Sunak and Truss for the final two...which were imo the worst two possible at start of this leadership race. And only the BBC could have Breaking News headlines thar Mordaunt dropped a vote to get 82 votes...i hope someone at the Beeb will tell the person responsible know.
  25. Not seen anywhere record quite as high as that yet...Kew Gardens has the highest so far at 37.5 along with Cavendish, so touch and go if Cambridge record of 38.7 will be beaten today. Norwich highest of 35.6 (96.1) back in 1932 must be in danger of being broken i imagine. But, wherever you live...It Aint Half Hot Mum.
