  1. Guardian "The former home secretary David Blunkett has said the “antisemitism” and “thuggery” within Labour makes him despair, compounding a difficult few days for the party. Lord Blunkett, who was an MP for 28 years before becoming a Labour peer, said the likelihood of Jeremy Corbyn winning a majority was “extraordinarily slim”. But he urged moderates within the party to “stay and fight” to ensure the “voice of reason” prevailed, following deputy leader Tom Watson’s decision to stand down. The former cabinet minister’s comments came after two of its former MPs urged voters to back the Tories instead. Ian Austin and John Woodcock said they would be supporting the Conservatives as they did not believe Corbyn was fit to be in No 10. And on Friday, Dame Margaret Hodge – one of the most prominent Jewish figures in Labour – declined to endorse the opposition leader as prime minister. Writing in the Telegraph, Blunkett said: “The behaviour of the hard left within the Labour party – the antisemitism, the thuggery, the irrational views on security and international issues, and the lack of realisation that you have to embrace a big tent of people in order to win – certainly makes me despair." Someone will be along to smear David Blunkett shortly. Thing is though he is only saying what we all know. https://twitter.com/Keir_Starmer A bit like this chap who perhaps should have spoken up sooner Keir Starmer Sad to see @SallyGimson arrive home from Bassetlaw today. A dedicated woman of principle, who always speaks up for those least heard. In public or in private unflinchingly considerate and respectful. Proud to have endorsed her. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/06/labour-accused-of-student-union-politics-in-candidate-row Lord Mann, the former MP, said: “The people in Bassetlaw will not accept or vote for a Momentum stooge. People liked Sally Gimson because she was a strong personality. “Momentum had stitched up the selection already to exclude good local candidates and now want to change the result because their candidate was not chosen. Local people won’t have it. It is crude – the worst kind of student union politics.” Anybody remember "Militant Tendency" "Militant, commonly called the Militant tendency, was a Trotskyist entryist group designed to infiltrate the British Labour Party. Its voice was the Militant newspaper that launched in 1964."
  2. It made the hairs stand up on my neck, haunting.
  3. The number of empty properties is a scandal when we have so many homeless. The government has given local authorities incentives to bring empty properties back into use but the local authorities dont have sufficient resources to to take advantage of it. One good aspect of recent housing policy has been the introduction of a new system wherebye landlords who breach regulations can be fined by local authorities and the LA's can keep that money to finance their private sector housing regulation. As this is rolled out we should see LA's becoming more active in the private housing sector again. Much more needs to be done.
  4. Tough two weeks ahead. Its not impossible to rebuild confidence, a lucky break ( which we certainy aint getting ) a streaky win from somewhere and the mood can change. I think the youth we have in the group will help that to happen, but its not looking likely atm.
  5. The atmosphere was pretty good considering the kick in the guts we got in the first couple of minutes. It really lifted with the sending off and we had a good period of pressure which sadly resulted in nothing. A few boos around me at the end but very very much the minority.
  6. Sums it up for me. The odd thing is I had the feeling that if we had played that Watford team last season we probably woud have beaten them. Its hard to get results with a team bereft of confidence. We have to regroup now and have confidence in the style of play that has served us well, its the only chance we have got. Thanks for the report Ricardo.
  7. Robbie Sewage thought we would lose this morning Whatever happened to his “evening with”
  8. Intersting post. I genuinely belive that Worthy had a problem with size, it was reflected in the academy during the Worthy era where smaller lads seemed to be released based more on size, or lack of it, than ability. Paul has great mental strength, would highly recommend his book "The Stupid Footballer is Dead"
  9. "..... anyone really serious about buying the club would hardly be put off anyway. If the conditions really were designed to put off even genuine buyers, then making an offer and publicising the absurdity of the restrictions, along with a detailed and costed explanation of the planned deal, would win fans over (in a way Cullum never did) and force S&J to take it seriously." And there is the elephant in the room, any genuine buyer who had been foilled by restrictions and unreasonably rebuffed would undoubtedly seek to stir up the fans to gain support for their bid. Never happened to my recollection.
  10. An excellent post Pockthorpe written in a refreshingly honest style. Hits the spot mate. Well done👍
  11. This is not just about anti Semitic factions within Labour, it’s the whole question of whether Corbyn and the Hard left are fit to run our Country- "I think at every opportunity he backs our country's enemies, whether that's the IRA during the Troubles or calling Hamas and Hezbollah his friends, or parroting Putin when he sent hitmen to our country, to Salisbury. "I don't think he loves this country, I don't think he's a patriot. I've thought about this long and hard." Mr Austin became emotional as he said there will be "lifelong friends who are probably never going to speak to me after this". The former communities and local government minister added: "It's heartbreaking, I think what's happened to the Labour Party is a disaster, it's a disaster for our country. "I disagree with lots of things the Conservatives have done but I wouldn't say they're unfit to lead the country - so I've got to be honest about it."
  12. The point here Hermy is that Austin recognises that there are lots of problems with the Tories ( as we all do ) yet despite that .....despite that.....he still sees them as less of a threat to our Country than Corbyn. There are a lot of moderate potential Labour voters out there, including myself, who could never vote for the party now that it has been taken over by the left. I suspect you are also in that position.
  13. John McDonnell responds to former Labour MP Ian Austin urging people to back Boris Johnson in an election, by saying "he is employed by the Tories – what else do you expect him to do in an election campaign?" Ian Austin “This is not true. It is a complete lie. I was appointed an unpaid trade envoy in July, along with 27 other MPs and peers from different parties, including Labour, to promote UK trade and exports John should withdraw this lie and apologise.”
