  1. Having watched the game on TV, it seems to me that there was very little defending going on. I maybe a little unkind, but it is something that has not been addressed since the promotion season. I''m sure the excuse will be that Sunderland were premier, blah, blah, but it seemed to me that certain defenders did not do the basics, simple defending, and no matter who we play we will be conceding goals, lots of goals. Going forward, a different kettle of fish, and many causes for optimism there. If the leaky defence can be cured, anything is possible. Just my opinion, and sorry if it''s a repeat of other posts, and I know I wasn''t there, but I live away in Kent now, but hope to be at Gillingham at least soon.
  2. I seem to remember Ken brown being sacked just as brutally. even still the timing of the sacking was a joke, quite what the board was hoping to achieve by that is beyond me, other than to destabilise the team. There is a story behind this for sure. The football club should not be a retirement home for former players, legend or not.
  3. Just about sums my views up perfectly. Surprised it was allowed to be published, but glad that it was and for the independence of the Pink ''Un. The identity of the new manager will be telling, and I think that any demonstrations should be on hold until we know who that it.
  4. The timing was indeed surprising, but then nothing really surprises me about the club right now. But the right thing to do, that it took them this long to realise the mistake is another thing. Lets hope the new guy is already lined up, otherwise it''ll be yet another kneejerk reaction. For those that remember Gunny in his heyday, he will always be a legend. Let''s hope someone with experience will be appointed and then the rebuilding can begin. We now have a Keystone Football Club.
  5. This is a new low. Jeez, I was beginning to think we would walk this league and was planning a trip to Norfolk for the next game. May still do that, but FFS, 7!
  6. Let me clarify on my last post. It may be just one game, but this is as bad as it gets. And then some. Was appointing a coaching team with so little experience such a good idea? Will approach next weeks game with lots of fear now. How will the club spin this crap?? Sorry for all those who were there.
  7. Words fail me on this. Although it is one game, this is a major wake up call. I take no pleasure in being proved right. 7-1 now. OMG.
  8. As has been said, a true gent and a legend. Italia ''90 was wonderful, and we almost went all the way. RIP.
  9. A voice of sanity returns, then. Or will he be gagged by the clubs new board member??? A nation, well Norfolk, awaits.
  10. What do we need a cyclist for? Oh, wait a minute.........
  11. The club has had a ''small club'' attitude for many years, going back into the 80s. Happily selling players. There is no reason why we can''t do a job in the Prem with the support we can draw on. I have been at the Carra with 36,000 fans screaming. What is clear is that in the past two decades we have had people in positions of power who have little idea about money; Chase and Smith have both screwed up with money; Snith as telling us over and over again that the club knew the risks and knew how to deal with that. She was wrong. Whether or not we are a big club in a small league, or you take offence at words or phrases; nothing can change the fact that we are back where we started 50 years ago, and hopefully we can begin climbing again.
  12. Needless to say, my thoughts with John and his family too.
  13. I agree totally with John above. I am so uninspired by the signings so far. For a serious promotion challenge we need to be buying players from the league above, not below. Just shows how low we have sunk I guess. As for Gunny; that he is manager now shows the lack of ambition that the club still has. Think like a small club and that''s what you will be.
  14. we should be signing ex-Championship players to have the quality required, if we''re building a squad long therm. Of course that would mean there was a plan. The time for blindly following what the club spews out has long since passed.
  15. I have to admit I am feeling a little underwhelmed with what has happened so far. Nothing less than automatic promotion will do this season, and there seems to be, once again, a pack of ambition from the club. I could be wrong and will hold my hand up if I am, but not impressed so far. At all.
  16. I don''t how mindless name calling between each other is getting us very far. Just respect each others'' views, maybe??
  17. I think he should be able to finish the SPL off. Nice of him to be so sorry.
  18. In a backwater town in Arkansas, a City flag from the 70s with ones from Coventry and Man City too. I went bck and added a promotion flag next time i passed through. Those were the days.
  19. I was dragged around the city by Mother whilst dad and Granddad went up. I was just nine then, in ''75. I remember the headline on the People next day, ''Aston Villa, Canary Killer''. Grrrrrrrrrrrr
  20. I don''t see how all this namecalling is getting us anywhere. Anyone who thinks Chase returning would be a cure all is quite clearly not all there. The success of 1992-94 was done whilst the bank balance went into the red by a huge margin. Players were sold to try to balance the books whilst supporters were lied to. I cannot believe that sane people who did live through the demonstrations, the police horses could ever want the man responsible for that back. Rose tinted spectacles is one way of looking at it. However, I do not think Chase could be our saviour, nor do I believe the current board is either. I don''t want to sink to name calling; the European run, top of the prem was done with careful nurturing of talent, youth talent in the previous decade; something the club had always been good at and something the club now has to get back to. Money was wasted, as it has been in the last five years, both did very bad, stupid things. I don''t want either to be involved in the club any more. Clear enough?
  21. I did live through the Chase era and say that the success that City enjoyed then was despite Chase rather than because of him. Given the much larger sums involved these days, such financial recklessness that he oversaw would have indeed finished the club off. He saw himself as bigger and better than the club and it''s fans. If you really think Chase would be the answer you really didn''t understand the question. Pity the fool.
  22. Chase; over my dead body. It killed my Dad last time. He could finish City off.
  23. I thought it was his job as Chief Executive to run the club like a business? That''s why he was paid £179k a year isn''t it? As I haven''t believed a word he has said for the past three or four years, why should I start to do so now. He has said black is white on a number of occasions; poor performances being good and things are under control, etc. That the club is in division 3 for the first time in 50 years is bad enough, that he can''t say it was largely his fault, and that without him and the current board it could be worse is rich. Without a sugar daddy, or mummy, the club needs to be run well, the academy bringing through talent and living within our means, something that the current board, and Mr Doomcaster has failed to do, despite upon promotion to the Prem stating they knew exactly how to avoid such a scenario. Lies and damn lies, sir. A career in politics awaits.
