  1. I dislike the tactic of bringing Klose on late in the game, supposedly to further shore up the defence. I realise that this tactic will almost certainly have been practiced and coached, but I can't help feeling that inserting a third CB into a 4 man back line is likely to create uncertainty rather than greater solidity. If we are to do it (bring Klose on), I would prefer to see Godfrey come out of the back four to shore up the (by then tiring) midfield. Even better would be to bring on a defensive midfielder rather than a CB, though with our current bench that option is somewhat restricted.
  2. MOM? Stiepermann, by some distance. Buendia's absence meant more rested on Marco's shoulders and the big man put in a great performance. People will no doubt point to his giving the ball away leading to the first Reading goal. But the real error was the complete absence of defensive cover guarding against just such a loss of possession when trying to penetrate a packed defence. DF told us what sort of tactics we were going to face; did he forget to tell the team?
  3. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the team selection. Despite Reading's tactic of playing with nine in defence, 3 out of 4 of the scoring chances we had in the game were created in the first 70 minutes, with Cantwell on the field. All that was lacking was the finishing. Our chance creation in the last twenty minutes simply followed the pattern of the vast majority of our games, and had more to do with exerting rising pressure on a tiring Reading defence; Rhodes contributed more to that than Vrancic. And while Vrancic's arrival had little or nothing to do with the two goals we scored, it arguably had everything to do with Reading's late equaliser. When, for heaven's sake, are we going to learn how to defend properly, rather than leaving attacking midfielders to run unchallenged and take free pots at goal from just outside our box?
  4. I think so but only if Rotherham and Wigan win too.
  5. I have a stetson. I guess that's probably more digestible than LDC's ozzy hat!
  6. The truth is RTB that, for any single game, it is far more like tossing a coin than people think; fortune, good or bad, plays a huge part in deciding the outcome. The authors of The Numbers Game, for example, make a plausible case for attributing equal weight to fortune on the one hand, and skill, tactics etc. on the other. Form doesn't win or lose any match; factors outside the control of any of the participants do, ever so frequently. We will know at the end of the game whether it has gone to form!
  7. And certainly none of the bravado of several posters on here along the lines of "we coped perfectly well with losing this or that supposedly key player earlier in the season and we'll cope with losing Emi too". Buendia has become every bit as central to our play as Maddison was throughout last season. I doubt if Ricky got much sleep last night after watching Leeds steamroller Preston
  8. I would judge from that that DF is more concerned about losing Emi for three matches than he is letting on. I'd say he thinks it's made what should have been a comfortable progression to the title a lot, lot harder and less certain.
  9. That was also the game when we kept his side waiting at the restart by not emerging from the dressing room until after the officials were on the field. That was nothing to do with the bus being late, and since it happened again a couple of times after that it did begin to look like a deliberate tactic on DF's part. I remember that several posters on here were uncomfortable with us doing it. That, together with deliberate time wasting which we began to indulge in soon after taking the lead, featured more prominently in Wilder's post-match rant than anything to do with the bus. Indeed I took his reference to the bus being late as a caustic comment emphasising his criticism of our half-time tactic and general time wasting. I think he genuinely felt we had engaged in underhand tactics outside the spirit of the game as he, a British coach and player, understood it.

  11. But you still get bored too easily nutty! 😉
  12. "Most of the article" is NOT" about Billy Sharp; did you stop reading when it got to the other divisions and awards? And as regards Sharp, becoming the EFL's all time record goal scorer is actually a more notable achievement than Teemu's outstanding performance for us over this season. Why can't people bring themselves to give proper credit where it's due? Sad display of narrow mindedness; but then what do I expect, it's football fans after all ........
  13. Acting as if you believe something is a well-established technique for actually making yourself believe it. All these "grown men and women" that Crabby refers to, clearly can't face the "will we, won't we" uncertainty of waiting for the moment when hope is actually realised or dashed. Rather than being exasperated by them, you should join me in feeling sorry for them LDC
  14. Blimey kick-off. As John Cleese once memorably said "For God's sake don't mention xG" 😯
  15. Maybe LDC has commendable concern for the well-being of fellow Pinkun posters. He's just imagining how bad ending up in the play-offs and then losing at Wembley would make people feel ..........
  16. It's not as if getting to the FA Cup semis is any sort of laudable achievement after all. If it were us doing the same next season, none of us on here would be stupid enough to care a fcuk about getting that far or whether we won or lost.
  17. Yes, but then he'd have been absolutely roasted for not saying anything. Anyway, have we a full transcript of what the CoGS actually said? That brief quote looks to me like a typical bit of media selective, out of context, editing.
  18. I agree that it would have beaten even far better keepers than JR, but a quicker thinking, more agile keeper would certainly have reacted quicker and got a lot closer to it. JR just looked bewildered. As for the third goal, his positioning was fine, but as other have said, he just cannot get down quickly to balls close to him as opposed to those he can dive for at full stretch. That's why I said in both cases, no blame but exemplifications of familiar weaknesses.
  19. Certainly wasn't the role he regularly filled at Aberdeen. But then the same could be said of Leitner and Vrancic. All three have had to adjust to the role required of them in our system. The fact that Leitner seemed to take to it almost instantly simply reflects his intelligence and quality.
  20. I don't know about blame, but both the first goal and the third highlighted weaknesses we are all too familiar with. The real lesson is one for coaches/managers: if you get to within striking distance of a major honour, picking your strongest team should override any sense of loyalty to second string players who have helped get you that far. If Rui Patricio had been playing instead of John Ruddy, Wolves might well now be in the final.
