  1. Maybe we'll do a Spurs and turn the stadium by 90 degrees, meaning 3 seasons playing at Portman Road... I'm joking by the way...
  2. Good to see these 4 back and hopefully available. We know Klose and Zimmermann are out, who knows if Godfrey has had enough time to recover from his hernia op and whether Hanley's groin problem is still keeping him out. Defence is still a worry.
  3. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/crime/james-maddisons-friend-punched-man-1-5659677 I suspect he earns a little more than Β£7k a week now...
  4. There have been lots of rumours that Southgate is testing Maddison to shrug off his billy big blocks attitude & concentrate on being the very good footballer that he is. If what Southgate is reported in this article is true, it can equally read as a criticism.
  5. It's chicken and egg. Against Man City, there was a collective backing as we all knew we were up against it. Against Villa, there was an assumption (wrongly, given the Β£150m they've spent in the summer), that it was the same Villa that we took 6 points off last season, so there was some expectation that we'd roll them over again. As it turned out, they outplayed us, and as mentioned, the only increase in backing came when we were denied a penalty and after McGovern's penalty save. It then kinda petered out when it became obvious that we were never going to get back in the game (after the 3rd and 4th goals). To be honest, I didn't hear any real discontent, just disappointment, with some acknowledgement/recognition that we had 6 or 7 first choice players missing.
  6. That was a fairly harsh red card for me. Very harsh to judge him on one 20 minute performance. Can we have another example? Oh, and what about the last minute of a certain game v Ipswich, I'm sure it was him that chased down a loose ball and crossed it in for Klose to head in to preserve a 10 year record... Yes, he's probably behind Godfrey and Klose for first choice CB, but certainly worthy of a squad place.
  7. Its such a balancing act. If we hadn't been promoted, I suspect some or all of Godfrey, Aarons, Buendia, maybe Pukki, Lewis and Klose would've moved on & we'd be back to square one in the Championship, developing young players. Instead, we've given contracts to most of them (and others), thus protecting ourselves financially if we do go down. The long-term project has to be a level of stability (4 to 5 years continuously) in the Premier League - accomplishing that within the constraints of being self-funding would be an incredible achievement.
  8. What does 'taking the club to the next level' actually mean - looking at that list of time in the Prem, there's no guarantee that significant investment (Β£100s of millions every year) will enable you to stay there - just ask Fulham and Stoke.
  9. It says he's pulled out because of a knee injury - wasn't it his elbow that we were all worried about!? Hope that's not a new / serious injury.
  10. Confirmed out: Krul, Fahrmann, Zimmermann, Klose, Hanley, Trybull, Tettey, Hernandez, Vrancic. Doubtful: Byram Hopeful: Lewis, Cantwell Likely team: McGovern Aarons Amadou Godfrey Lewis Leitner MacLean Buendia Stiepermann Cantwell Pukki Subs; Mair, Heise, Byram, Srbeny, Drmic, Roberts, Idah, errr someone else... WOW! Not only are we down to 1 specialist CB, we now have no midfielders on the bench apart from Roberts!
  11. Farke in press conf: will play with elbow taped up - 'he's not that good at throw-ins anyway!' - lol.
  12. I think its the other way around. Refs seem to be being spoken to via their earpiece if/when there's a close decision to be made. As in "hang on a sec, we just want to check that wasn't handball - yep, you were right, carry on...".
  13. If true, it gives Roberts the opportunity that many on this forum have been clamouring for.
  14. I thought we signed him to challenge for the Stiepermann / number 10 role as well as being a second or back up striker. As always when results aren't going our way, there's always someone saying 'why isn't so-and-so playing or getting more time?'.
  15. I accept I'm probably massively in the minority on this one, but I do wonder if Zimmermann is also in this camp. No one's seen him play at Prem level (aside from 20 mins at West Ham - did he do ok?). We don't know yet if he will be as brilliant as he was last year at the level up. We're in a whole new world now, where there there are teams like Burnley, Palace, West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth, who are all established Premier teams, and people are saying "we should be beating the likes of..." them. Another cliche - there are no easy games in the Prem.
  16. i saw that Twitter post. Some replied that broken elbows don't always get plastered as they need to be kept moving. I suspect we won't hear any news until Friday's pre-Villa press conference.
  17. Agree with the cup run comment, but what's also of relevance is that some of the squad players aren't playing in the U23 games either. Because of the number of injuries, they're needed for the first team squad, even though they're not starting.
  18. I'd like to think in the wider scheme of things, there might be some other occupations in these categories too (doctors, surgeons, nurses, care workers...).
  19. What worries me is that Klose is unlikely to play this season and Zimmermann is unlikely before January, leaving us with Godfrey and Hanley and Amadou as a stand-in CB. Aarons, Trybull and possibly now Tettey are out until mid-October. Our defence and midfield is torn to shreds by injuries. Whatever our 'first choice' back four and central midfield is, we won't be seeing it until January at the earliest.
  20. I think that's pretty much spot on - we did ride our luck. In the first half Sterling hit the post, Aguero headed over and they had 4 or 5 shots wide in the second half. I wouldn't say we caught them cold; they had 70% possession and 25 shots. We had 7 and scored with every shot we had on target with really good counter-attacking tactics. I'm no fan of Wilder but to suggest he's still got it in for us is stretching it a bit.
  21. 5 would be a good return in my opinion - 6 would be great. Despite the heroics of last Saturday, our squad is paper-thin. Zimmermann, Klose, Hernandez are all out for a minimum of 3 months; Aarons & Trybull for a month. Hopefully we have Vrancic, Leitner and Roberts back this week. The last thing we need is another injury or a suspension from those 4 games.
  22. Mings is a decent player, but he's not that mobile. Pukki's movement and precise finishing has already been proven against last season's top 2 defences, so I see no reason why he'll struggle against him. The crowd will be up for it again as well, especially with his Suffolk past. And with VAR, he won't get away with anything sneaky like he has done previously.
  23. I think that was McLean or Lewis, but I think that was more of a time-wasting tactic. Todd's looked more like a possible groin strain given the way he fell and grabbed it. Hopefully just sheer tiredness and they'll all be fine for Burnley.
  24. Hopefully Cantwell and Stiepermann's injuries aren't serious and just cramp/tiredness. Cantwell went down holding his groin in that final play on Saturday before collapsing on the final whistle (as seen in 'that' video).
