Belgium wasted their golden generation on Martinez. Some world class players managed by an average manager

The ball was out of play by the length of my erect d1ck (on a good night) for that Japan goal. What a joke.

It was a bizarre half time. He kept going on about how Spain were so much better than England, how come England can't play like this, if Englabd played Spain there is only one winner. Then 10 minutes later they're losing to Japan.

Well they ain't scared of Braverman

This is quite funny considering Souness spent the entire half time felating Spain.

No thanks, rather Robins who is making a tight budget look easy again. I’d be happy to see the change before January transfer window.

It's not about the destination; it's about the journey. If all football fans globally took that attitude then everybody may as well save themselvese some grief and stop watching, because only one nation wins.

He's been linked with a loan move to Villareal this morning. La Liga may suit his game. Less frenetic, time on the ball. Would be a decent move if true.

Clearly I am not since I acknowledged that he used to be very good journalist many years ago when he was indeed clearly very good at what he did and that is irrespective of whether I actually agreed with him, which I did on occasion but probably more frequently did not. Quite where your babbling nonsense about Scots comes from I've no idea or indeed how it has any relevance to anything I said which I think I need to repeat since you clearly didn't understand the plain English I wrote last time. This time in even plainer English - 30+ years ago Andrew Neil was a very good journalist at the top of his game (viz during his time as editor of the Sunday Times) but for the last decade at least he has become a very ordinary and unimpressive journalist living off the reputation he built much earlier in his career. I'm not suggesting that is anything other than a personal opinion but I am certainly challenging your very confident assertion that he is a very good journalist which is simply your personal opinion and more importantly one that rather jars with recent (and I would argue not so recent) events.

Not asking for "everything", these are key post game moments in the middle of the pitch. Made more relevant due to the negative coverage in the build-up between both countries. Furthermore, objectively "yes", they can show such footage as there's more cameras than outfield players which the director monitors, and non of these were split second moments. Why or who makes these decisions I don't know, but there was a bias... I just hope it was purely to "tell a story" of one team celebrating and the other in misery. Unfortunately it could've spread a far more salient message of positivity involving individuals from contrasting nations. If it was a homophobic thing (Which I can't believe), I'd be in utter shock. It's concerning that this could even be a possibility, really.

Here are some of my goods. I said I would take more pictures. The skateboard I made signed by everyone that was just there…. A sign that I also made signed by Simon Lappin who was here mingling with the crowd but also Grant Holt, Neil Adams and Adam Drury. Also my shirt signed by the team in Birmingham when I was there in august and the back signed by Justin Hawkins of the Darkness who were playing in Tampa earlier this year. OTBC!!!!

I live here in the Tampa Bay Area and I put this on twitter if any of you care. Sad about Jonathan Rowe he will be out for a while with a foot injury he was walking around in a boot & crutches I asked him how it was and he said “Not good but didn’t have the results back yet” & I asked Tzolis if he was coming back in January and he said likely not. Also congratulated Kenny on his new contract which was announced on the website during the practice and when he came to say hello to the fans and he was like finally it’s been done for a while. It was good times wasn’t organized very well with it being Announced last minute and right before the England usa match and everyone including players wanted to leave pretty quickly to get back over the bridge to Tampa. Btw the heat here is almost like Qatar right now and these players were gasping after only a few mins. I can only imagine how the European teams are feeling over there playing in the heat.

I might be confused here but why would they apply for asylum in France, when they want to get to the U.K. as once they have applied there I don’t think they can apply here, maybe that’s totally wrong. I also thought they kept to the camps around areas outside Calais and would not enter the town centre.

It was completely unbalanced and made worse by Sven's obsession with 4-4-2. With a very good squad of players available we massively regressed from the Venables and arguably the Hoddle eras. That said, I struggle to find a way of getting all four of them into a balanced midfield in any formation. Particularly given the riches we were blessed with at centre back and striker at the time. Maybe a 3-5-1-1 or 3--4-2-1. Either way, at international level Scholes would have been the first name down for me ahead of Lampard or Gerrard. The former was slightly more one dimensional albeit exceptional at what he did, but the latter whilst more rounded as a player had very little sense of positional awareness and team structure. So you sort of needed to build a team around Gerrard to compensate for his wanderings to make him effective. What I like about Southgate is that he doesn't just throw the best 11 players into a team and trust that they'll work it out. He looks at the way each element works within the whole. Which is why he has been as successful as he has with arguably a weaker squad (despite popular opinion) than anyone since Hoddle.

Nothing wrong with it. Rules are made clear before the tournament starts and if the teams don't like it, that's the time to raise objections. There was a case in the African Cup of Nations where lots were drawn.
  41. 1 point
Sure, but it still helped if you had reasonably balanced skillsets within that midfield unit. That golden generation in midfield didn't quite have the defensive nous or the ability to keep the ball under pressure at elite levels.

Hi PUPs, Happy St Andrews Day, and thanks Nutty for the very kind intro. 😍 Well, here we go for the annual Apples trainwreck...I think last year I was done at 13.45 on Saturday by the first pick, a 1/10 shot, not coming in. 🤦🤣 Fingers crossed this season, so please fire those picks in and I'll look to make my selections on Friday evening. Nutty, I'll also send you some cash to cover a second six. @KiwiScot I'll be at Caledonian Braves vs. The Shire in Strathclyde Park. 🤪🤣 Best of luck everyone! Apples

And there wasn't one amongst those England midfielders. Which is why I maintain it was imbalanced. You had a bumper crop of attacking midfielders with varying strengths (Lampard was a goalscoring threat, Beckham had his set-pieces and Scholes was the most imperious in possession), and in Gerrard a genuine box-to-box one. Keane became a master of that role in front of the defence when he was a little older and not the thunderous box-to-box presence of his earlier days.

Think this is fair. There's certainly room to criticise Southgate as a coach, in particular his in-game management. @Virtual realitywas quite right to note that he didn't seem to have the answers as the Croatia and Italy games slipped away. But I think he is a brilliant manager. For virtually my whole life, the England football team has seemed a really dysfunctional environment, with players who seemed out for themselves and not really committed to England. Southgate's squads seem to have a real togetherness, epitomised by the fact that it doesn't seem to matter who starts and who's on the bench. Grealish, for example, looks like he's having the time of his life. And, as you say, there are a few players in this team who play far better for England than their clubs. Southgate has clearly created an environment where the players support each other and thrive. For my money he's done it better than anyone since Venables, and possibly since Ramsey.

In the mid 1980s I visited Zimbabwe and went on what they used to call a "game drive" - wildlife spotting in other words. Along a narrow track we'd just parked up when a huge bull elephant appeared from the undergrowth about 50 yards ahead. Halfway across the track he stopped dead. Our guide thought he might be aware of us and told us not to move or make a sound in case he decided to charge. After three or four minutes he lumbered off into the bush. We like to imagine that the earth belongs to us, but in reality we were trespassing on his territory. An awesome and humbling experience.

Jesus Christ, I haven't posted on here for about 2 years, although been reading but nothing has forced me out of hiding to post like this utter utter garbage being spoken by the Dark Knight. I actually genuinely can't believe what I'm reading, so I just wanted to pop on to add to the list of people calling you a deluded fool. See you all in another couple of years.

Gilmour needs a free role to work. But for every Pirlo, you need a Gattuso ball-winner and a Seedorf box-to-box man alongside him to make it work. I think he's in the wrong country, personally. He'd probably do really well as a deep-lying playmaker in Serie A.

He's dreadful. Utterly, utterly dreadful. We'll lose to Wales.
