Strange, I thought it would be our defence who would be sh*tting themselves before Sunday.

So a bit of good news and a point and laugh at Ipswich - it appears Colchester has been granted City status in the Queens jubiliee. Ipswich must be livid 😄😄

Time to offer him a clean slate and that includes from the fans also. Otherwise we lose an asset for nothing next summer having got nothing beneficial out of him for 2 seasons. I would hope Smith is sitting him down, offering him the chance to start again afresh and maybe, just maybe we at least get one more good seasoin out of him next seasoin even if he won't sign a new contract. Who knows if he can get back enjoying his football for us again he may even hit previous levels and decide he wants to stay.

I think the ‘buy a bunch of teens and loan them out’ model was what bought Ben Godfrey to the club. Given the value he went for, I think it probably covers the collective failures

I’d be more than happy to see him here next season. If someone offers something we don’t think we could/should turn down, he’ll go. If he does leave, I’d wish him all the best, he’s been nothing but a dedicated, model pro since the day we chucked him in against Ipswich.

I think the most likely of our loanees to come back in and make an impact are... Sam McCallum- two solid Championship seasons in a row, we're losing Brandon Williams, seems to be a no brainer to be in the squad. Josh Martin- had a tough first half of the season but finished strongly for Doncaster and has pedigree.

So we should only compare Smith with things that are rubbish? There aren't really too many that he stands up well against. Brentford made the playoffs the season before he became manager and made the playoffs the first full season after he'd left. They didn't make the playoffs any season he was there. And although they started poorly under Bruce, the season before that they finished 4th in the league, higher than they finished under Smith.

Rupp very good at Championship level. I suspect his injury record played a factor, and the fact he probably isnt the more physical presence Smith is looking for. Central midfield needs some work for next season where it's light, but I think most wanted that regardless.
  15. 3 points
No we don't, we need to stop using loan players to fill crucial areas of the pitch and finally find a permanent defensive midfielder. Webber has been here 5 years, he inherited Tettey. When is he going to purchase a defensive midfielder?

I always seems to me that there are some people who will take every opportunity, valid or otherwise, to 'sympathize' with the Russians or equally be anti West/American. It goes beyond facts (and neither is whiter than white) and presents itself simply as a willingness to believe without question every pro-Russian anti-West narrative they can find ... self justified by quasi intellectual clap-trap. Criticism of some of our actions is certainly valid but that doesn't make the Russian actions anymore correct in Syria, Georgia or indeed today in Ukraine. I have a lot of respect and indeed sympathy for the Russian struggles against Hitler. They did indeed in a material way 'win' that war. However that can in no way excuse Stalin's crimes or indeed today Putin's imperialist ambitions. This thread is entitled "Striving to make sense of the Ukraine war". Surely the only thing you need to know is that Putin fooled himself into believing he would 'liberate' Ukraine in 2 or 3 days with the willing help of it's population. He was simply, foolishly, murderously incorrect. All the rest is just his excuses already proved hopelessly false.

Imagine celebrating your club not being relegated after a miracle escape. Would never be me, I would sit there silently and quietly and not do or say anything if we avoided relegation thats for sure😉

Don’t want to see him in Norwich shirt again simples

To be fair, this season Farke did not play him in a position that suited him. He was shoved out on the right in a 4-3-3 when he's always played on the left of a 3 behind a striker. Another thing that was ridiculous about our recruitment. We signed 2 left wingers when we already hahd Todd playing very well in that left sided midfield role.

Sadly I too now believe that Sue Gray's report will be a damp squib. I missed the start of an interview on BBC earlier today and the name of the reporter but whoever it was came across firmly of the opinion that it will be civil service staff within No. 10 who will carry the can with the overall theme being that Johnson stumbled into a number of questionable events having been given bad advice by civil servants which of course is another despicable trait of the man ie throw other people under the bus to save his own skin. The reporter also went on to say that many of the alleged incriminating photos which people are claiming they have in their possession will not see the light of day as they contravene data protection legislation. I switched off the TV at that point as I needed to phone the Samaritans with my mind set on the belief that the only way of getting rid of Teflon man will be at the ballot box.
  26. 2 points
True faith. No, not the 49 games by Arsenal's Invincibles between May 2003 and October 2004 - this is the 159-game streak that Lawro tipped Liverpool to remain undefeated for, between May 2016 and November 2020.

Looks exactly like a Met stitch up to the extent that I've yet to hear an even vaguely credible alternative explanation for the Met's failure to give Johnson any more fines for other events which were clearly more serious breaches than the infamous 'birthday cake' incident. That seems to be the reaction also from some of the civil servants who did receive multiple fines, and I'd love to know what Rishi makes of it all as he also looks to have been completely stitched up by the Met, which of course also suits Johnson perfectly........ There certainly needs to be some sort of enquiry and disciplinary action taken against the Met, firstly for their abject failure to take any action at the times when all this illegal activity was taking place literally under their noses and then as you say for the multiple incomprehensible decisions they've made since. If ever there was any doubt at all that there was one law for the ruling elite in this country and another completely different law for the rest of us then the Met have eliminated that doubt with this shambolic fiasco - funnily enough, and completely co-incidentally (or maybe not 😄) I completed a really long YouGov survey today which id the first I've seen/done covering the political parties' attitudes and handling of Brexit, Covid & cost of living crisis - climate crisis didn't get a look in so I imagine that it was probably commissioned by the Tories 😄 Anyway, intriguingly, alongside all of that there was also a question on 'One law for Johnson, and one law.....' first time I've ever seen that come up in a YouGov survey - no need to say what my answer was!

So what was the point of sackng Farke? I doubt Guardiola could have kept us up, so why blame the manager?

Heads should roll. Then we can moan about more key staff leaving. 😦😉

Except with Dortmund he'd have a side that's usually one of the stronger teams in the Bundesliga, and known as a finishing school for young talent. He'd be in his element.

That was the..... "buy 2 highly rated teens with first team experience for seven figure sums and develop them into first team players" strategy of Webber's predecessor wasn't it? Lets not forget that Webber inherited Godfrey and Maddison (who were signed in the same window for a combined £5m).
  34. 2 points
Why would there be, his contract isn't up?
  35. 2 points
Yes, because Farke and Webber produced an extraordinary season - if we're going to compare every championship manager to that then we'll never find better.
  36. 2 points
The ideal scenario is he gets his head straight, plays well for us and wins the fans back over before signing a new deal. How likely that is nobody can say but it would be such a shame to see such a clearly talented player fall away like this.
  37. 2 points
Depends on what Tetteys jig meant by "only just made it into the championship squad". He didn't get on to the pitch in 18/19 until the 9th game, and during the whole season he started 18 games (and was subbed off in 8), was subbed on in 6 and was on the bench but didn't get on in 16 games. He had 1 goal and 2 assists. In 19/20 he started 30 games and was subbed on in 7 more so that's a big leap from the previous season at a higher level. He had 6 goals and 2 assists.

If we sell him to you, I predict this messageboard will go full Chernobyl.
  39. 2 points
Well if dropping a league and hardly getting a kick did not bring him back down to earth nothing will.
  40. 2 points
If I was a friend of his I'd be telling him if he wants to be a footballer, to forget all the other stuff, social media, image consciousness, contract issues, ambition, personality clashes, or whatever - and do your talking on the pitch. In other words focus.

I’m responding to other posters bringing up Christianity. As an agnostic why are you so keen to defend it whilst repeatedly reminding everyone having a discussion about theology in general that the OP is about Islam? I smell an islamaphobe. Forum discussions evolve and digress. Read a handful of others and you’ll see this. That is assuming the concept of evolution doesn’t also cause confusion

So, in short you're agreeing that the Bible is a document full of contradictions and flaws, that has no special privilege concerning matters moral. "But even in science today there are flat-earthers" Could you name one of those scientists please, I would love to read their scientific explanation for the claim that the earth is flat.

Considering the location it just seems like further sportswashing to me. I hate myself for even defaulting to that perspective, but it's simply how I feel. They could've done this years ago, but it feels that it's done to raise their reputation following the Qatar controversies to me.

Do you know what? I've lost interest in Norwich after more than half a century of supporting them. I think a lot of fans have as well. For me Smiths appointment has been as inspiring as a sack of potatoes, same with our signings. Its going to take something very special to get NCFC back on track, I don't see it myself.

Right, I'm jumping the gun by a couple of days. Following the announcement of the club's 'released list', I'm removing Rupp, Oxborough, McAlear and Drmic, as well as the four loan players who the club has confirmed are returning to their parent clubs at the end of their loans. The only player unaccounted for was Jon McCracken, but I've just realised that I missed him signing a new contract in February, so that's been updated too. Also added Springett (though can't find any contract details for him). **** that, I'd tell him clearly that if he wants to be part of plans here he has to settle a contract otherwise we can't invest in him as we have many young, hungry players at the club that DO want that position.
  50. 1 point
Maybe I'm old, but I just don't understand the thought process of these people. Sure, if you want to invade the pitch and celebrate, thats great, but why would your first thought be, I'll go and abuse the opposition fans, or worse still, an opposition player still on the pitch. Embarrassing scum.
