Just seen on Michael Baileys insta that Sargent didn't play tonight as he's become dad. Despite his playing efforts, I think congrats are in order. Not seen it posted elsewhere apologies if it is, and to @cambridgeshire canaryfor starting a thread! Im expecting some 'surprised he scored / hit the target` type responses

Rather back the board at the moment, start agitating for clubs to be run like the German model, and most pertinently, for a salary cap to be introduced. I don't believe that a 'solution' involving a mythical wealthy benefactor not too fussed about seeing a return whilst extending considerable financial largesse (or, put bluntly, financial doping) to a club is the way forward. I certainly don't believe that a club like Barcelona is in a 'healthy' position when carrying over £1bn of debt, a considerable proportion of it being short-term debt to boot. And I will never remotely be persuaded that the solution to our woes is trying to find our own wealthy benefactor in what is basically an arms race between ultra-wealthy individuals, often from places with morally dubious human rights records. Rather than fighting to enable ourselves to adopt to this footballing financial insanity, as fans of a club that's ran with due financial prudence and diligence, we should be agitating to ask that other clubs run like us, not the other way around.

For all the smoke and mirrors, there has to be a reason that two successive managers have frozen him out. Fingers crossed we can ship him out this month and reinvest the fee elsewhere, he's become a most unwelcome circus sideshow in what's already looking like a car crash of a season.

Nothing left-wing about wanting the government to look after the economy rather than unlawfully handing out billions in contracts to their mates. It's a bit like signing Naismith over and over again.

I don’t care about what owners are in place. It’s a waste of breath shouting about it. What I want is, if we get relegated this season, a review of the recruitment process and Webber to admit he got it badly wrong. Because, no matter how you spin it, you can’t say we didn’t spend and Webber wasn’t backed. And in fact, it’s pi55 poor windows like what just occurred which makes the board reluctant to spend in future instances. Take a look at Chris Hughton’s 13/14 or Alex Neil’s January 15/16 windows as per example. I don’t know why we get it so wrong sometimes. Frustrating.

Webber will probably claim he didn't know it was a transfer window. In any case, the breach of Covid rules is nothing compared to the complete mismanagement of the economy and the shambles that it brexit. His party have more than doubled the national debt in 12 years, we've got the highest inflation in 30 years including energy prices more than doubling in less than 6 months. While Webber has clearly made mistakes, he's obviously trying his best. BJ and his party on the other hand don't give a f*ck about you and me, they're all rich so it doesn't affect them.

NOR 4 - 0 EVE. Idah to open the scoring. Sargent hattrick, his mrs brings baby onto the pitch and a picture reminiscent of Alex Higgins at the snooker world champs in 82 is taken. A day we will look back on and think, wow, to think we though Josh had his boots on the wrong feet that season. Goes on to average a goal a game and signs for Newcastle for £250m in 2024.

I'm struggling to imagine what you think Delia actually does. She's hardly the puppet master pulling all the strings behind the scenes. She's just a benevolent custodian of the club who doesn't have much choice other than to stick with the current funding model. I doubt very much that Delia actively wanted to sell Emi or sign this bunch of losers (literally). I don't think it's her choosing the tactics. I suspect that she just trusts Webber to get on with the job. So what's her actual crime? That she should be richer? Or do you believe she's holding back a stream of foreign billionaires who are itching to buy the club and invest £200m? Given our success relative to our means, all I'll say is be careful what you wish for!

Listen to yourselves, she's an 80 yr old woman. Act like grown men and get your point over like an intelligent adult and not some kind of chavvy teen. Everything ends eventually.

Simon Jordon says it how it is. He likes our club and manager but we are crap and an embarrassment to the PL. We have had two back to back promotions and absolutely fcuked this up. Webber took massive respect for finding Pukki but judging by the majority of signings since Webber must have just got lucky. The recruitment team cannot identify what players are needed at this level.

His best game for us in the league by some way. Used his strength well and made inroads into the West ham defence several times and put in a great shot when he earned himself a clear chance on goal. Looks like SAS are starting to get him going! Good game.

So those that want Delia to either quit or sell up are part of a ' Delia Out mob ' . I presume you are part of the mob that doesn't agree with that view then ?

Having owners/majority shareholders that will not invest or attract outside investment is not and has not been acceptable for long time and not sustainable. They serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever to any club. Money doesn't necessarily equal success, but any business that is starved of investment will suffer and we are suffering now and will continue to do so in my opinion. Our majority shareholders parochial view of football is shared with some fans and I'm sure some on these boards, but ignoring how football is in the modern era and what is required is simply unacceptable for everyone involved in the club and of course, the hard paying fan. I've never been so pessimistic about our future, as our ship is sinking fast with some happy to go out with the tide.

That's it. And we could go through years of multiple new owners until we find one like a Leicester or whatever anyway. And that's what, based on takeovers in the past 15 years a 1 in 20 shot? We've not got it as bad as some on here want to point out and there's several bigger / similarly sized clubs who's fans and owners would, and have tried, spending 100's of millions just for half of our recent premier league spells in the past 10 years. If a billionaire comes up who is interested then I'd like to hear what they have to say. I'd be disappointed if Delia etc told them to go do one, and i'd expect any half-respected billionaire to make it public knowledge they enquired if they were told to go do one. If they don't have enough gumption to do that then I don't want them owning our club anyway.

Not just current reason, it’s been the reason all season. McLean is a senior player with good work rate. Championship might be his level but there isn’t anyone else who we can consistently play. It’s not his fault his level is good championship, it’s not from a lack of training or effort. he was 250k from Aberdeen and has player well over a 100 games for us. He has been a good signing.
  20. 3 points
I'm not sure it would do the confidence of the new signings much good if he came out and apologised for signing a load of rubbish in the summer.
  21. 3 points
Tonight I thought he was significantly better than McLean. He slows the play down, and goes backwards more than I wanted him to, but didn't seem to lose the ball that often, and even broken up several West Ham breaks. Anyone who thought he was awful is just looking for a scapegoat, or I got McLean and PLM mixed up a lot. He was not great, he definitely was not our worst player.

Oh great another pant wetting thread. This season has never got going, but it is better to be failing in the hardest league in the world than treading water in the lower leagues. Out of the clubs of our size, we are one of the best. Two memorable promotions, top infrastructure investment, proven academy progress. Most of our transfer gambles didn’t pay off, and Webber will take the flak, but it doesn’t erase the obvious overall progress made under his regime. Grow up.

I can understand why some are frustrated about the ownership situation and lack of investment, but some of these comments are disgusting given what she has done and achieved for this club over the years. Its starting to become like the end of Arsene Wenger's reign as Arsenal manager, when he started receiving over-the-top abuse which his legacy did not deserve.

Made this point on another thread. The maturity, mentality and professionalism form Max is second to none. And he’s younger. And a better footballer. He will make a good career for himself. Todd hasn’t gotten to grips with the fact he isn’t as good as he thinks he is, and attitude stinks to high hell

There was some chap on here from Essex a few years back who had a tantrum and said he was cancelling his Norwich season tickets and getting his kids West Ham season tickets because we got relegated, then he disappeared, think that was Alex Neil days. Maybe him.

Dean Smith shoulders none of the blame for our current predicament. He is like a jockey who is a late replacement in the Grand National, given a 3 legged horse and being expected to finish anywhere but last. The blame for the current situation lies with those that are responsible for the assembly the current squad. That starts in the board room and finishes with our scouting team. Sadly none of those will put in an appearance on the pitch, so it is the manager and players that bare the brunt of fan's frustration.

IF there was a queue of people wanting to buy us, why haven't they told the EDP? I know if i was a billionaire who wanted to buy the club, letting the fans know wld be my first action. They would then do all the hard work, chants, demonstrations etc to weaken Delias resolve.

Thanks for saving me the job Greavsy but by the look of his last post add condescending to patronising but as they say none so blind as those that cannot see.

Personally, I'm happy to see out the model. If the worst happens and we end up lower mid-table in the Championship then we'll have come full circle with a pair of EFL trophies, an awesome academy and facilities, some fond memories and zero debts. If it goes to plan we may yo yo a few more times before finally sticking and flourishing in the top flight. However, if the former happens then I think we'll have to consider aggressively seeking new owners / investors otherwise we'll always be on the outside looking in.

Hogesar has asked me to reply to that. His view is that it is simplistic to regard the fanbase as irrevocably split into that kind of fixed Manichean Dualism. Rather, he believes in using an empirical dialetic process to arrive at a synthesis of his initial beliefs and those of the counterparty in the discussion.

Thanks Lessingham, appreciate the insight, and look forward to seeing the output from future meetings. From the outside you must admit it a complete sea change where prior to the last meeting (the OSPs first one) there was pages and pages of questions and issues that people wanted raised, instigated by a thread an OSP member started and had pinned, to now, when no such request for items to be raised has been made. And indeed when the question of 'have the OSP been involved in ST renewal discussions' it was met with a 'I can't answer that'. Not the way, I as an outsider, feel a representative body who claims to represent the fans should be acting. As I said I do appreciate your response and clarity, however it's just a shame, in my opinion, that the OSPs actions have only been publicly declared following a discussion on here. Anyways let's move on, and I look forward to seeing outcome of the next meeting when the minutes are issued, together with any further comments the panel can make at that time.

They may not have spent more on fees but you can bet they are on wages. And wages is what attracts good players. We pay comparative peanuts wages wise compared to other clubs at this level. Always have. And we’ve got ourselves a complete safari park of monkeys.

It's a tough one, innit. But since I got my season ticket in 2008, only Farke's first season has seen us marooned in mid-table with nothing to play for. I'd rather have experienced the rollercoaster I've experienced than spend 16 years in the Championship before slipping down to League One with nary a whimper like our 'illustrious' neighbours. I'd rather have a sustainable ownership model with a Cat 1 academy and outstanding training facilities than have watched a 'wealthy investor' such as Marcus Evans drive the club ever further into debt before selling out to an even murkier investment group. I don't want to just settle down in the Championship and accept our fate, I want us to try to compete at the top table, no matter how painful that process is. Many 'richer' clubs than us haven't even had a sniff of the PL in the time we've had three or four promotion/relegation cycles. I know which trajectory I prefer.

Surprised by the overly negative reaction here. I’m not super happy at another defeat, but given the personnel available and quality of opposition that was a decent, effort filled performance. We were in that game till their second goal and but for an outstanding save could have been holding out for a point in the last 15 rather than chasing the game which led to the second.

Literally just using it as a free ticket now. No interest in progressing it whatsoever

Sooner he f**ks off the better. He hasn't wanted to play for the club for ages, so why should we give a sh*t about what he wants? Let him rot.
