The vaccines are effective, the trouble is that covid-19 is a coronavirus and they mutate. That's what happens with every cold and flu that goes around and why flu vaccines are only partially effective. What annoys me is that governments act like it's some kind of shock that the virus keeps mutating and that we couldn't prepare for it when it should have been clear from the start that this is the reality of the situation so people can be prepared and informed. The fact is covid isn't going anywhere and new variants will continue to emerge forever basically, this is a fact people are just going to have to accept and the only way to stop masses of people from dying every year is by giving our booster jabs every winter. No jab is ever going to be one and done, that's impossible with a virus like this but that doesn't mean vaccines aren't effective.

Youā€™re welcome to your doomsday predictions @Essjayess, but I just want to live my life now and not have it dictated to by scientists on how I should live it. Same goes to any likeminded person. Yes, it keeps mutating, but not every mutation means a bump in the road on the journey to endemic, although the MSM like us to think otherwise.

It is ruining society and robbing children so at least that is something we agree on. Where we differ is what to do about it. All Iā€™ve heard from you is that you want to stop non vulnerable people from being vaccinated after two jabs. That totally ignores the fact that this virus is evolving and in a year or more time it will be different again so stamping your feet and saying ā€œno more vaccinesā€ isnā€™t going to work. I most certainly do not take anything from any political party, particularly the tortes, at face value. Scientists though are a different matter. You know who I mean, those people who have been responsible for major advances in all our lives, including health care? Maybe, just maybe, they know a little bit more about the best way forward than you do.

Why on earth do you feel the need to tell some faceless bulletin board moron about your personal medical status? This is what we have got to. Remind us how many people have actually died from omicron. Meet your family. Live life. Ignore the absolute wet blankets who would have us lock down forever.

Its a free country and we must all take responsibility for our own actions. Me, Im over seventy and immunocompromised thanks to blood cancer. As far as I'm concerned vaccination is a no brainer. As I said, we must all make our own decisions, I have made mine because I am in no hurry to shuffle off this mortal coil.

From what I read NHS staff sickness figures in London have gone from 1900 to 4700 in a week, the immediate concern is about a breakdown in health care provision.

This thread is a brilliant example of why I wish politicians would just shut their mouths about covid/vaccines etc and let scientists and the NHS do the talking. People have now made the connection in their brain between vaccines and a government overstepping it's authority and it's causing actual, real world harm in people refusing or delaying a vaccine because they don't trust the government and vulnerable people are dying as a result. Every time that bumbling, ridiculous clown who calls himself a PM drones on about how people need to get vaccinated and the government, newly drunk on the freedom to enact authoritarian polices by using covid-19 as a convenient excuse start alienating people and telling them do this or else... are adding to the harm and reinforcing the beliefs of skeptical people. It's causing so many people to refuse to get vaccinated or not behave in a considerate way during a pandemic because they associate these measures to mitigate the pandemic with a corrupt and failing government who also don't follow the rules themselves because they believe they are of a higher class. If from the start you removed the politics that have gotten intermingled with the strategy to contain the pandemic there would be a significantly higher percentage of people would be vaccinated and wearing masks/social distancing etc and it would all be a hell of a lot less controversial, but that was never going to happen was it

Thereā€™s a simple decision tree that can help here. Is it probably a red card? If yes, is it a Norwich player? Yes then red card issued Is it the England captain? If yes then clearly itā€™s a fair challenge Same for the push for the Liverpool penalty that wasnā€™t given. Had that been a Norwich player making the push, what would the result have been do you think?

I actually think in Feb-March we will be seeing the beginning of the end of all this. Omicron is more infectious and therefore transmittable, so this means it will infect more people in three months than even Delta did. It is also apparently the least severe of the strains found so far through genome sequencing. If the modelling is correct, then in three months a large population of the country will have contracted the virus with people also gaining antibodies through third booster jabs. I donā€™t think it will drive up hospital admissions the way itā€™s been predicted, due to the lack of severity. This way the virus will find it difficult to find a great number of people to infect, and will just be like a common cold when it does. All pandemics burn out in the end. With Spanish flu this is exactly what ended it and with this one, it will be exactly that but also alongside better treatments and vaccines. Turn the TV off, donā€™t listen to the fear pĆørn, have a fantastic Christmas and have a fantastic Christmas Eve night. Iā€™ll never forget for the rest of my days even when this is over, how much it scarred me, my friends, my other half, parents and almost drove my mental health over the edge. Letā€™s all have a fantastic Christmas, because we damn well deserve it.

This is exactly what anti-vaxxers are doing. They are harrassing and threatening healthcare professionals for protecting our society. They are holding violent demonstrations in public. They are posting addresses of journalists and doctors online and inciting violence against them. This whole thing has really highlighted a broken, inherent ignorance and nastiness in people.

You do know the virus has evolved into something slightly different since that statement? It will continue to evolve just like the flu virus and just like it did when it evolved from only infecting bats into infecting people. There will be an on going need to develop the vaccine each year, just like the flu vaccine and selfish people like you who only see their own needs are going to put the vulnerable at more risk than necessary. Because I disagree with you doesnā€™t make me unintelligent.

Lets be clear about this. The vaccination isn't just about you, it's also about OTHERS. If you don't want the vaccinations for yourself then that is one thing, but the whole point of it is to protect the population as a whole. You might think, "oh, I don't mind if I get the virus and I'll just let my immune system deal with it", but in effect you are saying "I don't mind getting the virus even though I'll be spreading it around and therefore putting others at risk". That approach may be ok with common colds and flu - people tend to just get on with it if they can, but this is no "flu", it is far more dangerous. So it is an entirely selfish attitude to not get vaccinated - unless you have a genuine health concern about it. If you are just "anti" because you don't like that feeling of being told to have it, or stupidly think it is some govt scheme to control you in some way, that is just idiocy. Yes, you have to keep your eyes on what the govt do - and if you don't like them, vote them out next time, but the vax is for the greater good - and Klopp recognises that and Liverpool are setting an example. Good for them. I hope other clubs do it too.

Interesting how completly politically inept Corbyn's Labour was. Outside the left wing cult the man himself repelled the traditional core vote, as did many of the candidates selected in a hurry because he voted for an election that could only be lost and lost heavily. You may not like Starmer @keelansgrandad but his softly softy catchee monkey approach was slowly pulling Johnson in before the inevitable implosion. To mix metaphors he doesn't frighten the horses so it is now ok to vote tactically, to vote LibDem because there is a safe alternative.

He must be really p!ssed off with Lord Frost who got him in this terrible deal by negotiating with the EU and then failing to use the mechanism that Lord Frost negotiated and that Lord Frost threatened to use to get the EU to change only for Lord Frost to agree to give in to further demands from the EU that made Lord Frosts threats seem like they had no substance. You can hear the laughter all the way from Brussels, it's echoing around the rest of the world.

Gilmour lost the ball on the right wing, deep in the Villa half. That's where he should have put in a foul to prevent the counter. He needs to realise that, if he's committed that high up the pitch, there's a hole he's left behind him. A simple foul to prevent an overload, it's hardly rocket surgery. The second goal, Gilmour makes a weak attempt to win the ball but doesn't commit. If he takes man and ball, he might get booked, but it might just be a free kick which we can defend. Instead he leaves his man a free run into the box. It's this side of his game that makes him a liability. Less of a problem with a solid defence behind him, but we're fragile and have to rely on everyone doing their job for it to work. It almost wouldn't matter if he was making up for it at the other end of pitch with goals assists, but he's not.

I think this govt has no stomach to do a lockdown before Christmas - whether or not itā€™s the right thing to do is irrelevant (but it probably ought to happen) - but I can well see some tightening of rules from perhaps the 28th. This saves face and ā€˜protectsā€™ Christmas. As to Boxing Day games, imo those ought to be postponed but will probably be left to a match-by-match basis.

Yet I donā€™t really care about Covid passports, or whether you or anyone else gets vaccinated or not to be honest. I mean donā€™t get me wrong Iā€™ll still judge them, but itā€™s their choice. However it should be an informed choice, what I donā€™t particularly like is people spewing anti-science, conspiracy rubbish. Whereas you care a lot about people getting 3rd boosters for some still undetermined reason.

That would've been one of the softer tackles when I played school vs school football! šŸ™‚ Our Captain's rousing pre-match message seconds before each KO was: "Remember lads. if you can't get the man, get the ball!". That ironic intent used to get a chuckle, however we were programmed to compete physically that's for sure. The other side played in a similar manner, which is why we needed to match them if we wanted to win. Nowadays it's a different world. Kane was out-of-control (unable to pull-out of the challenge), so it should've been an instant red card.

I think you might be ā€¦ You seem happy to accept some pie in the sky comments about Portaloo Road ( unless you have seen ā€œall these plans ā€œ of course ) but wont believe that anyone at NCFC have made any enquiries whatsoever into ground development despite Zoe Ward saying at the AGM this year For us at the moment, it's about taking the first steps and understanding what the feasibility is and what that stand would look like, what the rest of the Carrow Road site would look like and then we can build that masterplan before implementing some of that work. I canā€™t show you any plans of course . But you know that . And I doubt that you can show me any from ITFC. But if you honestly think that Ipswich could have the (what was it ?) ā€œbiggest large scale event venue in East Angliaā€ , when Ipswich doesnā€™t have the largest anything else in East Anglia then I suspect you just want an argument about our current owners and building a bigger stand

I think they will be on, Covid cases at each club permitting. Fans will be allowed in. It is looking as though it will be very difficult for the government to get greater restrictions through the commons now, which don't forget is now closed for Xmas and would have to be recalled to vote on any proposed restrictions. But given 150-200 Tory MPs could vote against more restrictions it actually starts to look more difficult for further restrictions to get through. There is an increasing lack of appetite in parliament and in the country for more lockdowns etc. We've got our vaccines and are getting our boosters. Those were supposed to be the route out of all of this.

If people donā€™t want to be vaccinated and consequently potentially risk their lives thatā€™s up to them. If they subsequently contract the virus and die I couldnā€™t care and certainly would have no sympathy. What they donā€™t have is the right to be a risk to the rest of us. Thatā€™s why I fully support the requirement for the covid ā€˜passportā€™ to gain access to venues. Why should the majority have further restrictions forced on them to protect a selfish minority?
