Buendia didn't want to play for Norwich anymore. Which rather ruins the whole "he would have kept us up this season" argument.

It’s sad that so called supporters want to stir the pot over any single detail they can to intensify negativity around the club they purport to love. It makes me wonder if some sections of fans, and that’s not solely restricted to NCFC I might add, are actually happier following a club when they have their chance to get upset and angry. But I know the answer, and there actually are people in life that really do derive pleasure from feeling like that. Anyway, regarding Todd, hope all is ok with him - not my business to know, and nor do I need to know, but in situations like this, I think unless you’re a complete fool/a-hole then you should always give someone the benefit of the doubt and respect that maybe just maybe there is a private issue that is of far more significance than a 3-1 loss.

jesus here we go again. BUENDIA WANTED OUT. Doesn't matter about a contract its not worth the paper its written on in football, and look how pants Kane has been since Spurs tried to strong arm a want away player.

Don't understand why Idah wasn't on penalty duty. It beggars belief. Can't defend set pieces, can't score penalties.

So, in your opinion, Cantwell's career hasn't developed under Farke? As for this thread, if any other player were missing for personal reasons then nobody would bat an eyelid and they'd receive sympathy. But not Todd. He's judged in a completely different way to the rest of the squad, so he gets slated for missing a match for personal reasons. Yes, I agree that he's very irritating on social media, but everything he does is used as a stick to beat him with for any frivolous reason, as previous threads on here have shown, so if he is indeed suffering with his mental health it's no surprise given the treatment his own supposed fans give him.

It was dark enough for lights when we rode off to CR this evening to see yet another team selection picked straight out of Delia's teapot. What the aim is I can't say, other than it gives everyone a runout. It looked like five across the back with Gianoullis and Mumba as the wide men and Idah and Tzolis at the sharp end. If Farke was hoping for a more solid defence then he must have been very disappointed as City went behind early on. They were a bit tentative from the off with a lot of safety first passing across the back that eventually failed against the Liverpool press. A corner from the left was headed down and Minimino was all alone to slot back across Gunn into the far corner. It could have been 1-1 pretty quickly as a Liverpool attack broke down on the edge of our box and Gilmour came away before delivering a great ball for Tzolis to take in his stride down the City left. Unfortunately his hard, low angled pass had just too much on it for the inrushing Idah to connect. The visitors dominated most of the early exchanges with Oxtail Chambermaid pulling most of the strings alongside Keita and Gomez and Konate showing how defending should be done. However, apart from a couple of headers over the bar Gunn was not seriously troubled again. Indeed at about the mid way stage the home side began to have a greater share of the ball and started to carve out openings. Tzoli might have done better with a header and Idah could only find the keeper when a nice move gave him a chance from about ten yards. With half time fast approaching, another spell of City pressure gave Tzolis an opening from twent yards and his stinging shot was goalbound until Kelleher punched it away. Gianoullis then skipped past a defender but was barged in the back and for ref Darren England, it was an easy decision to point to the spot. So, a great chance to equalise and probably deserved on balance but my heart sank when I saw them bickering over who was to take it. These things should be sorted out before the game because in my experience it is an invitation for something to go wrong and of course it did exactly that as Tzolis smashed his shot against Kelleher's legs and niether Idah nor Lees Malou could stick in the rebound. Being level would have made a big difference and when City started on the front foot in the second half and Lees Malou skied over the bar with the goal gaping I think we could all see where this was going. Inevitably Liverpool soon netted a second when Origi stole between Hanley and Gibson to nod into the corner leaving Gunn stranded. On another night and in another part of the Multiverse it could easily have been 2-2 at this stage but I'm afraid we are stuck in the Universe of pain at the moment. Pukki and Raschica came on for Mumba and Tzolis but it didn't change much as City managed to continue to squander any opening that presented itself. With ten minutes left Minimino manged to slowly walk behind the ball as it rolled untouched into the net with City defenders looking at each other instead of the ball. You could excuse it in an under 12's Sunday league game if you really tried to not make the boys cry. Just before the end Idah was free on the left but decided to go from a tight angle instead of laying it across to two unmarked yellow shirts on the six yard line. That just about summed it up for me, Toothless upfront, hopeless at the back. Tzolis, lively but should not have taken the pen, Gilmour, some nice touches, Rupp industrious, the rest meh and I'm afraid Gunny is not good enough for the Prem on this showing.

What game did you actually watch? Gilmour was absolutely woeful. He had a couple of good moments but he was positionally all over the place when we didn't have the ball, was second to everything and just kept losing the ball at crucial times. We can't carry someone so unreliable just for the few decent contributions - the midfield needs to be more disciplined than that otherwise we just get carved open.

Sitting in the pub watching the game, some Americans have just walked in. Seems like they were hoping to watch something else "Uhhhh, guess they're all watchin' soccer....." *notes a yellow shirt* "......Uhhhhhhhh, whose playin'....Brazil?"

This whole thread is simply repeating old ground with some, generally on the “no booing whatever the circumstances” side, seemingly unable to understand that, for many, watching their team is an emotive experience producing passionate, visceral and spontaneous reactions. These can range from outbursts of elation such as cheering, chanting, hugging the stranger standing next to them etc, to immediate displays of anger and disappointment which can include shouting at the ref, giving “advice” to players and, yes, booing. I fully understand that not every supporter (and please let’s not rehash the tedious semantic argument over whether or not someone is a supporter) responds in this way and some are rather more dispassionate, considered and objective in their reactions, and that’s fine. But in the same way that they are angered by those who occasionally display their concern and displeasure by booing, others will find the unconditional applause and praise after another inept performance to be equally inappropriate.

As promised a summary: 1. People who boo are not being "supportive;" they are not "supporting" and not behaving like "supporters." I can't help what the word means - supporters support: it is not an opinion, it is fact. 2. Ricardo cited an extreme example which I accepted as an exception in very limited circumstances, aware as I stated at the time that others would falsely use this as justification. 3. Booing does not have a higher moral purpose: it is not helpful, it is damaging. Posters have suggested that it will get the players or manager to "buck up their ideas" - I think this is nonsense. I don't think Farke or the players think, "I'd better try next time, or I might get booed" - I think the argument is silly. 4. On the contrary, I think booing is damaging: it damages player confidence, particularly worrying for a team like us that has so many young players. I can recall even Steven Gerrard saying it affected Liverpool players when Roy Hodgson was being booed by Liverpool customers. 5. The booing on Saturday was at times aggressive and intimidating: not by all, but by enough to make it unpleasant. There were several heated arguments, people having to be "held back" and what looked like threatening behaviour - I'm sure you know the sort of male rutting stuff. As my wife said "Why do men behave like that?" (Particularly in relation to a man who got a mouthful for reminding someone that there were children there.) I don't think that this is acceptable but have been accused of "pearl clutching" for this because football is emotional and that perhaps I would be better off at the theatre. Is that what we want football to become (again)? 6. In conclusion, I can't think of a single good thing that came out of Saturday's booing and can think of several bad things. I do not think the people who booed were anymore more disappointed than those who didn't, they just responded in a way that I think is damaging rather than helpful. I sorry if this offends anybody, but I can't for the life of me, see what's objectionable about it.

Cantwells entire career has developed and flourished under Farke you absolute genius.

At marking as we are. Im sorry but something is fundamentally wrong with how the defence is being coached, we don’t close down crosses and then when they come in we have 5,6 or sometimes 7/8 players in the box, all marking space and leaving the attacking players completely unmarked. it’s pathetic and amateurish and it’s undermining all that we do. Farke can’t sort this. It’s been a persistent failing under him and we are losing any kind of continuity or identity trying to sort something that should be a coaching basic.

I’m going all in on 3-4-3. Follow Tuchel at Chelsea and the changes he made to correct the issues Lampard faced - namely conceding too many goals from wide areas as a result of having full backs pushed up too far but without cover. So: Krul Omobamidele - Kabak - Gibson Aarons - Normann - Sorensen - Giannoulis Sargent - Pukki - Tzolis I’d have Cantwell, Gilmour, Rashica and Dowell primed and ready to come off the bench depending on the game situation. And I’d stick with it for a few games. I don’t think we lack the players, but we very understandably have a confidence problem.

Missing Lapps, used to pull me up on my sermons, stopped me from getting out of hand........ Tonight's team -
  20. 2 points
We were better with chance creation today, I though. Individual errors are killing us whatever system we play. 3 at the back with Kabak and Aarons for Everton is what I'd go with.

Decent touch! He’s second touch always needs to be a tackle because he’s lost it on the first! pretty sure even on the team mate talk video that was posted earlier that McLean even said this.

My opinion before the game was we should have played our strongest team, let them gel and get some confidence back with the performance. My view hasn’t changed. Total waste of time. Change of formation, 9 changes. We have been comprehensively beaten by Liverpool’s reserves and U18s combined, what did we get out of the game? I’m even more convinced now our best team would have got a result or at least given a performance to gain some confidence before Saturday. Its Farkes choice but it’s another poor one IMO that just adds to the pressure.

It was a mistake not to loan Idah out. He’s never going to develop in these cameos and a few mins here and there. He needs a season in the Championship to actually learn his trade.
  29. 2 points
Hughton was grim football, but we weren't playing as badly as we have for large parts of this season. I have backed Farke from the moment he got here, including when we were relegated, but two more games of this and we need a change. Hanley and Gibson might not be world beaters, but somehow the defensive system that we are attempting to work is so inept that it makes them look like they have never played the position before.
  30. 2 points
    I don't, he's being distanced from the embarrassments, he's currently having a a great season 😂

Really don't get the hype around Idah... not moved on from "hot prospect" in the last 3 years. Runs around like a lost little boy and doesn't score goals. I really think he'd have been better to go out on loan and get regular game time somewhere as he's nowhere near ready for the prem yet. Needs to grow and get regular game time in men's football.
  32. 2 points
If we can keep this down to two goals conceded, I think everyone on here has to agree that ‘three at the back’ can be considered a success….

I thought last year we were meant to be bedding in a system that would make us more solid and better prepared for the Prem. Turns out it we just lucked into having Skipp for a year.

You put 3 of the most lightweight players about in your midfield you get what you get. I just hope Farke wakes up soon and realizes you need pace and power to compete at this level before it costs him his job. Look at the teams lining up against each other for set pieces, they absolutely dwarf us as per usual.

I know you're paying devil's advocate, but I still think that's pretty big revisionism which no-one would have said had we started this season well (something which actually has zero relevance to his ability to develop young players). The reality is, Alex Neil had access to Maddison, Godfrey and Lewis. Lewis and Aarons in particular were relatively unnoticed by all accounts until Farke wanted to integrate them into the first team. We signed Emi for a silly fee, an initial £1.5 million. If any manager could then turn him into a £30 million player I imagine pretty much every club would have tried to purchase him, and we'd never have signed him. There's just too many examples of young players developing very well under Farke for it to be a coincidence, and it's something he's been well recognised for outside of Norwich.

They wouldn't make them if they didn't sell and if people want to buy them, that is up to them. I wouldn't normally buy one, but I did when I got a seat in the ManUtd crowd at Old Trafford, for two reasons - A) I didn't want to appear too tribal in amongst the Man Utd fans B) I was kind of aware that might be the only time I would be able to get a ticket there (it cost me £85 then) so it seemed a good idea at the time. I wore it at that match and never wore it again because it was a one off event for me - and it soon disappeared, no idea what happened to it. I'm not proud of it and wouldn't get one again, but each to their own. Live and let live (unless it's to do with booing 😉)

Something that has got lost in the defeat against Watford is a very big positive - that Teemu is back on the goal trail, with a very well taken goal. The start of hopefully many goals for him this season as we gradually find our feet and get some momentum going. Yes, we had a disappointing game on Saturday, but to see Pukki scoring again is a real pleasure - and he took it really well.
  46. 2 points
I don't personally think, particularly in modern day social-media times, that the 'board' need to hear fans 'booing' to realise a performance was no good. I certainly don't think Webber would have sat their after a 3-1 loss to Watford and thought "Oh, there wasn't loads of booing. We must have played really well!". Equally, had our board acted in the way you'd like them to, we'd have sacked Farke after his first season, employed Rowett and probably be enjoying League One football. Had we not done that, we'd have sacked Farke when we got relegated, or a few games into the Championship season, and possibly not have enjoyed a records point total and title last season.

Look I think we all know that it was unlikely we’d get points from the first 4 and maybe therefore something has been a bit lost in translation but on the face of it that quote smacks of little old Norwich and writing off games that there was still a chance of getting something from. We don’t want that being the attitude of the club or there is no point us being in the premier.
  50. 2 points
If he was out because he wasn't focussed or some such, Farke would have said so. Not getting a transfer away, not being picked for the team or whatever else is pure conjecture. Personal reasons are just that. Personal.
