A professional NFL player just came out. The first one to do so. I really hope we start seeing this in football. It's so sad that people have to hide a major part of their life just to avoid hate from the stands, even from our own!

General consensus outside of Norwich is that they did very well to get such a large fee for Emi. Obviously he was our best player, not denying that, but the bigger question is - is Emi or ยฃ38m of more use to Norwich in the short-term? I personally believe the money is of more use right now, it is allowing Norwich to make some big moves in the market and improve the squad overall, that is more important than having one exceptional player. It would have been better, from a fan point of view, if he had gone abroad or somewhere like Liverpool where there was no question he was stepping up a level. But Villa are taking their opportunity in a deflated market to bring in quality players for big prices - they are doing what Chelsea did last season at a smaller scale. If Villa land Leon Bailey for another ยฃ30m then you can see why Emi was keen to move there with the promises they must have made him (and the ยฃ85k a week wage). Selling Emi hurts fans' pride, which is understandable, but overall it may have been a sensible strategic decision. Unfortunately there will never be conclusive proof if it worked one way or the other. If Norwich survive they can say it was a good idea - although the lingering thought will always be there that they would have done even better with Emi around. If Norwich are relegated the argument will be it was because Emi was sold - but there is no way of knowing that if he stayed things would have been any different.

You've missed the point entirely. No one is suggesting that gay footballers should be praised for being gay, or would want to be praised for being gay. It's entirely about gay footballers being treated equally with heterosexual footballers, nothing more nothing less. Just as black footballers expect to be treated equally with their white colleagues. I'm sorry that such an equality agenda bores you, sorry, that is, that you lack the imagination to see why this is such an important issue (as the sad fate of Justin Fashanu attests).

Either a very poorly thought out joke or you really need some perspective if you think itโ€™s ok to compare these with selling a football player to another football club.

Why do you want to know about someone elseโ€™s sexual life? Am I the only person who has no problem whatsoever with gay people but is simultaneously sick and tired of the entire pushing of lgbt propaganda? Itโ€™s SO boring now. being gay isnโ€™t deserving of persecution but nor is it worthy of praise. Letโ€™s just let people be people and focus on football. If they perform on the pitch who gives a โ€ฆ.

Must be pretty bad having to live a fake life though, and never being able to be yourself in public. Its not about praise, its about creating an environment where people don't feel uncomfortable just being themselves.

LGBT propaganda? The only ones pushing that are the Church. Besides, the pushing of the nuclear family is far more pervasive than ANYTHING done by the LGBT communities.

The simple fact is we had a ยฃ5m pot replaced by another, which was then replaced by one for perhaps ยฃ1-2m. This gives us a hole that inevitably hits our transfer funds. It isnโ€™t rocket science to see a clear causal link, I can see no issue in SW making the point clear to everyone. The rights and wrongs of BK8 are a completely separate thing.

I think we very much got the going rate for him. That much is clear by Arsenal's refusal to bid more but clearly having the funds to do so (see Ben White). That he might have been worth more to us is a more likely argument. But he's only worth more to us if he wants to be here. I don't think it's a coincidence the OP has posted after a couple of assists from Emi against Walsall last night; which I don't think has any bearing on his value.

Does the 'look what happened to Justin Fashanu' theory really apply nowadays? That was 30 years ago and the mentality has moved on. Also, the colour of Fashanu's skin probably exacerbated the abuse he received as well. If a footballer came out tomorrow, there would no doubt be a small minority of homophobes who would send abusive messages on social media, similar to what certain black players receive now. But the vast, vast majority of fans would be fine with it, and some experts have claimed that the first active gay player may actually increase their marketability. Ultimately, the biggest barrier may be the racist abuse being received by black players at the moment. A gay player may look at that and think: 'Do I really want to put myself through that?'

How about - the whole culture/legislation/tax system, etc? News items on BBC? Ask yourself how many times people are referred to as fathers/mothers, etc across all media. The tax system favours the nuclear family, as OECD figures have made clear beyond all doubt for years (especially compared to the single and childfree). The nuclear family doesn't need Pride month. It has all the advantages internalised within this culture to start with, and therefore enjoys an unjustified, elevated position as a result. If America is any guide, there are over 1,000 laws that benefit married people to the detriment of single people. Not really been much research into the lot of singles in the UK, but I'd be surprised if it's dissimilar. The reason you don't see it is simple: you're in the middle of it so have internalised it.

It's sad that no pro footballer in England has come out yet, there are obviously plenty and I'm sure within clubs players are open about their personal lives. It's clearly a fan issue and I understand why nobody has opened themselves up for the abuse they would inevitably receive. Hopefully things are changing and it won't be too long before some players decide to come out, because representation is very important and (men's) football is one of the few high profile areas with zero LGBTQ+ representation. I would like to think if a city player came out they would receive overwhelming support from our community. It would be something to be proud of as a club in my opinion. I don't know much about it but the club do seem to be really supportive of the Proud Canaries and I remember the Justin Fashanu banner that was unfurled a couple of seasons ago, that was brilliant.

I think some perspective is required. I know Emi is amazing. I genuinely believe the sky is the limit for him. But we have to be realistic about what he has achieved, and what that means for his value. Coupled with him clearly wanting to move on, our hands were somewhat tied, but judging by the rest of the market we seems to have got reasonable value. A few points: Look at the top five transfers: PSG, Bayern, Liverpool, Villa, Atletico. We might not view Villa as a big club, but they're spending big club money. Upamecano had a release fee, I think it's fair to say his market value would have been higher. But there is no way that what Buendia has achieved in football could be compared to that of Upamecano, objectively speaking, and the difference in price was <โ‚ฌ5m A number of players in the top 10 have moved for less than their peak market value (Buendia was worth โ‚ฌ22m when the bid came in FYI) Source below, there are some players that have had excellent top flight seasons that have moved for far less than Buendia; Daka, Tomori, Silva, McKennie, and they're just the ones I've heard of. Silva scored 28 goals in 32 Bundesliga games last season, is one year older than Buendia and cost a little over half the price of Emi. Keep calm, guys, the window isn't over yet. TL;DR in Webber we trust. Source: https://www.transfermarkt.com/statistik/saisontransfers EDIT: It has been pointed out to me that Andre Silva had a release clause, and on further investigation so did Tomori, while McKennie's fee was agreed last summer. The players in the image below that didn't move for their release clause are: Hakimi, de Paul, Daka, Gerson, and Guehi.

If the club knew he was in advanced transfer negotiations with another club, they'd be very foolish to select him to attend the fans' dinner and talk passionately about his love of the club and how much he's looking forward to the new season. Just asking for trouble if he then moves on a few days later. He may be sold this window, but I highly doubt he's currently in negotiations with anyone.

Essentially that a lot of very unqualified people are passing judgement on single parents throwing around unsubstantiated statistics from an unverified blog and others are just weighing in with their opinion. As someone who works with children and young people and has done for nearly 15years, a lot of what is being said is not based on any form of facts. All that has been displayed on this thread is someone expressing a belief that opposes one of the central tenants to our society - freedom of expression - and then derails the thread, taking it off topic. Some of the opinions expressed on here are exactly why in football we continue to have issues. Raheem Sterling was targeted by the press/media for similar things earlier in his career. People expressing that LGBTQ+ issues and awareness don't need promoting with "propaganda". Right now is a quite sickening time in football in that sense. Just like taking the knee, the vast majority of fans support it, but the few bigoted fans boo it and shun, of all things, rainbow laces as if it attacks their own sexuality. What a sorry state of affairs to be in, it's 2021, not 1921.

I join with the ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ response. Stamp duty causing the property bubble... Everywhere is saying it is supply and demand. Sure, the stamp duty line 'might' be part of that, but for several years now there has been more demand than there are properties to buy. And this is an important issue. We get told there aren't enough houses and more are needed - but where is everyone living right now that wants to buy a house? How many of them are in rental properties? High rents are one of the reasons motivating people to look to buy, because mortgages are cheaper. Then add in to the issue that many first time buyers struggle for so long as they can't compete with wealthy landlords or people buying 2nd homes etc to rent out. So, you see, in many ways, landlords are very much part of the problem.

Looking at the explanation on the Zoe App, in a long winded way this is basically what it's saying. Definitely disappointing for the App. We've been flagging on here for some time that the Zoe App numbers were unexpectedly flat, and they've revised the methodology which has given a big jump in both daily numbers and active infections. Meanwhile the daily testing positive numbers are now starting to look a bit unexpectedly flat.... My concern at the moment is that daily 1st dose Vaxx numbers are really low, we've almost hit 90% adults 1st dose and now seem to be running into people who are not having it for whatever reason. I wish the Govt would be firmer in nudging them to have it, like Macron.

The whole situation is a bit of a mess to be honest. According to the reports we cancelled the Dafabet deal early due to some unspecified 'concerns' with the business. If those were based on anything to do with how Dafabet chose to do things then it is inexplicable how we then rushed into another deal with an even dodgier looking Asian gambling firm without doing enough due diligence. The club really only has themselves to blame with how things have turned out. I'm not a fan of this quote from Webber- he's not stupid and knows exactly how this is going to be taken by many.

Natalie Elphicke is the odious woman who told Marcus Rashford to concentrate on taking penalties instead of trying to stop kids going hungry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57914664 Five Conservative MPs breached the code of conduct over an attempt to influence legal proceedings, a standards committee has found. Theresa Villiers, Natalie Elphicke, Sir Roger Gale, Adam Holloway and Bob Stewart wrote letters regarding ex-MP Charlie Elphicke, who was convicted of sex offences. This is what happens when the leader of the party is a feckless idiot.

Then do us all a favour and **** off now. I'm Norwich no matter what - that's what supporting a football club is. Not ****ing off to MK Dons when our best players get sold. Wakey wakey - that's been happening for 30 years. I don't like it one little bit but threatening to throw your toys out of the pram and go play elsewhere is utterly disgraceful.

"Ergo marriage is a positive thing for society and ought to be encouraged." If this proves anything at all, it simply proves that kids brought up in stable 2 patent households do better than those who live in other situations, as you stated. The reasons for this could be thousandfold, from the ability of the parents to compromise, therefore being more empathetic, to the financial advantages that come from having two incomes, to children from one parent families facing stigma, to kids with single parents being more likely to to have a blue painted room than a green one, and this effects educational outcomes. None of the reasons I have listed before are anymore based on fact than your assertion that marriage is the reason for better outcomes.

Not sure if you are watching ITV News but they are reporting a worrying trend that likely positives are no longer testing. Nobody knows the reasons at present, but it got very worrying when they said possibilities included not being prepared to take time off work, donโ€™t want to cancel a holiday, people are testing negative on a LF but with symptoms and not bothering with a PCR.

The way I explain it to myself. The adaptive immune system has two main types of cell: T cells and C cells. T cells target foreign objects within our cells, B cells go for these foreign pathogens between cells ( for instance in blood or on organ walls) We are born with millions of b cells (and T cells for that matter) all very slightly different from one another (if you like they all have slightly different surface shapes and therefore a unique 'fingerprint') . Most of these cells do nothing for out entire life but occasionally one will bump into a foreign object with a surface shape that is roughly the negative of the cell's surface. Some people describe this pathogen as having the lock into which the B cells key will fit. When it does the cell will bind to the pathogen At this point the B cell does two things: secrete antibodies and signal for clones of itself to be produced to aid the fight. The antibodies are simple structures that also bind to the surface shape. When they do they, amongst other things, interfere with its functioning. In the case of covid when a antibody attaches itself to the spike protein it changes the shape of the protein and stops it from binding to the ACE2 receptors and stops the virus from getting into our cells. At first the antibodies released only vaguely work, but it's better than nothing. As the battle continues the immune system evolves the surface shape to get better fit and switches to a more specialist class of antibody. Once the battle is over the body keeps a memory bank of evolved B cells. The next time the body encounters the same thing it has a ready made well trained army to bring to bear. The point of vaccine is to introduce the immune system to the pathogen (or relevant part of the pathogen) and allow it to discover the ideal fit and put down a memory without risk of disease. It would be crazy for the b cells to constantly secrete antibodies useful only against against a vanquished and absent foe so once the enemy is gone secretion stops. Falling antibody levels are usually a good sign that the infection is cured and to drops are to be expected. That doesn't mean that the army in the reserve memory is any less capable of acting immediately and successfully. What is being measured here is antibodies in serum (in the blood) but a different class of antibodies is also to be found in the throat, gut, stomach etc linings (ie the mucous membranes) These antibodies can be fixed or secreted into the mucus with the aim of stopping the pathogen from getting into the body in the first place. Unlike serum antibodies we do want these to linger, but as vigilent sentries rather than infantry wandering around the blood looking for a fight. A possible problem with an injected vaccine is that it bypasses the mucus membranes so it is unclear(at least to me) if it activates this part of the immune system in the same way as it does the serum element.
