After this nonsense someone checked out his web site and there were zero flags. If you voted for this idiot you should be embarrassed. This type of flag sh@gging really should stop.

I am not sure if I'm odd (probably not) but the union jack has often given me some shivers, certainly an uncomfortable feeling at times (I was fine making sand castles on Hunny beach as a boy with England, Scotland and union flags!). Now...I love aspects of our culture...music, art, nature, our so-called eccentricity, our engineering/science, our sense of humour. Yet the flag has always felt alien, maybe threatening? Perhaps I was born too late to not have known the war and the flag as a national symbol of unity, of victory? Yet I associate it much more now with our colonial past, especially as I re- read historical accounts through the prism of life in the 2020s as I get to hear stories from all kinds of countries about the British influence. Perhaps some folk in the Netherlands feel the same? I'm not sure I'm less patriotic than ever. I was anti-Brexit for certain but not because I was not "British". What is it about this symbol then? Growing up I felt it was associated either with the far right, or, just as likely brought out by royalist types at key events (or the Proms). So for me it has been appropriated somehow and identifies more readily to certain groups of people...taken away from the wider country perhaps?...linked to uglier aspects of the past? Yet now we have a seeming battle between Labour and Conservatives to reclaim it. Any thoughts welcome as I realise this post is stream-of-consciousness rather than researched. I suppose finding articles which are neutral might be hard to find!

Look, I don't have any axe to grind with the EU at all, I have an apartment in Spain which I really have missed over the last 13 months, I just want to get back and visit again. But, it does seem to me that they didn't quite get all this right. Not surprising when you are dealing with a number of member states and you are in a situation that you have never seen before. As for the timing of the signing of the contracts (which shouldn't make any difference if AZ agreed to supply a certain amount of doses in a certain timescale), I can find plenty of links that suggest the UK signed with AZ in May/June 2020 and this link, from the EU itself says they signed in late August 2020........so make what you will of that. https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_21_302 Should add that the May thing was a licensing agreement which (and I don't understand the details of such stuff) but it appears to be important........copy and paste below "The UK's contract is in fact dated Aug 28, one day after the EU's, although an earlier licensing deal in May between the parties of Oxford University, AstraZeneca and the Government appears to trump the later purchasing agreements"

That quote says Western countries bought their way to the front of the queue by partnering with drug companies. I would interpret this differently. Western countries put up the investment money to research a vaccine cure and therefore earned the right to be first in the queue. There was nothing stopping the ASEAN organisation of south-east Asian countries grouping together to provide investment money to research a Covid vaccine. Nor nothing stopping the Association of South American countries doing the same. Or even the oil rich countries of the Middle East. But they all decided not to do this and stood back and let countries the the UK take the risk of putting up the money to find a cure. So yes, we do have a right to be first in the queue. Having said that we do have a responsibility to help others after we have taken care of our own and working with the Commonwealth countries is the ideal place to start.

In fairness I don’t think Newcastle fans are quite as deluded as people make out. Sure they have some fans who take it too far, but they’ve been served up some truly turgid dross under Ashley and there is clearly a total absence of goodwill between fans and owner and has been for some time. Their fans on their day are probably the most passionate around (perhaps why their discontent is always well documented), they have a packed stadium and a huge away following too. So I don’t begrudge them seeing themselves as a top 10 prem side as that’s roughly where they should be. But I think really all the vast majority want - from knowing a few fans and Twitter - is a manager and owner they can trust and get behind, and who plays half decent football. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed watching a Newcastle side - maybe under Pardew? Their brand of football under Bruce is soul destroying, and Rafa wasn’t heaps better - but Bruce was actually given a budget to spend. Stories such as Newcastle always make me very glad for our ownership and current management set up!

Regardless, he worked wonders here. It’s very much about being in the right place at the right time , and he was. we’ll never forget how the Villa fans were singing his name at CR. That did not work out too well, come to think of it , none of his moves did after he left here. Just shows the grass is not always greener

Yep. It certainly appears that way. And a few posters on this forum have been doing that for the last few years haven't they? Stuff gets posted and within hours (often) someone posts very pointed stuff. You cannot easily debate with such folk though because that isn't the end result wanted. It is to stir up and "us and them" kind of narrative. If you say anything they don't agree with you're a "woke" or you're stupid etc etc. And this nationalistic theme is another outcome of Brexit. And possibly fully intended. Already we've seen some professions are being selected for attack (judiciary to name one). Plenty more to go at. 1920s 1930s anyone? I remember this too, as Capt Pants has said, he was getting the w*nky worthington chant until he did that, finished up getting a round of applause. I remember watching football focus and he said he was a big fan of The Jam which helped change my opinion of him 😁

I looked closely at nearly all areas of the UK as regards new infections and the 7 day rolling rate. There is now almost a 50/50 split in areas where infections are showing small rises and those showing small decreases, Norfolk is a perfect example of whats happening nationally with small increases in Norwich, Broadland and North Norfolk and small decreases in rest of the county. But nowhere was there any sharp movements in either direction, which suggests as of now that around a 5k a day in new infections is and has been the average for a couple of weeks, albeit with still a very slight decrease. But the two most important areas, deaths and hospital admissions have shown big decreases of course and the decrease amounts are still pretty good. That, more than anything else is the good and positive thing and the testing and vaccination programs are doing their job in stifling the virus, without of course eradicating it. The one big test naturally will come as lockdown slowly eases, that is to come, but for now things still improve.

I am glad you have had the jab. I tried contacting our vaccination centre but they aren’t calling people under 50 yet. Amazing what a difference geography makes.

Can't remember the exact date, or who we were playing. it must have been about 63, my dear old dad use to 'sit' me through the railings along the South Stand near to the half way line. Seen some epic battles, both off and on the terraces. I reffed in local footy for over 20 years, when a badly torn calf kept me off work for 9 weeks - thank you Thorpe Rec. I decided to take the kids to start watching again. We've now sat in our seats since 2002, and I still think having a season ticket is one of the greatest things I have ever had.

Looking very much as if export of AZ from the plant in the Netherlands will be blocked, I suspect reading the mood music AZ wont even ask for the export certificate. I doubt that this will affect export of Pfizer to UK. From this report the ban could have quite an impact on our vaccination program. "An EU export ban could delay the UK’s vaccination programme by two months, according to analysis carried out for the Guardian . However the same analysis found the EU programme would only be sped up by a week if it kept the supplies meant for the UK. Reuters reported the vaccine row is focused on a factory in the Netherlands which features in AstraZeneca contracts signed with both Britain and the EU. An EU official claimed that whatever was produced in the plant, run by the subcontractor Halix in Leiden, had to go to Europe."

As I lived in Watford my first Norwich match was at Vicarage Road on 24 October 1981-It was a month before my 18th birthday. Watford won 3-0. More memorable was my first gig 2 days previously when I saw The Clash at The Lyceum in London.

Thanks for that Sonyc. Yes, it is disturbing art, especially from when she was younger, but also very good. And good pencil drawing is always appreciated in my book.👍 "Remember, before the internet , that people thought the cause of stupidity was the lack of information? Yeah. It wasn't that." Laurie Lipton.😀 In a coincidence an old episode of Fake Or Fortune was on and it was about Giacometti. The Sainsbury Centre at the UEA made an appearance and have a few pieces of his. I have been there once but can't remember how many pieces they have so will have to pop back in once we are allowed to do stuff.

Yes definitely, and Paul M as well - you have been incredibly patient and tried an entirely fact based approach with them but unfortunately, as you are discovering, they are entirely impervious to facts, reason and logic, so ignoring them is really the only sane approach to take. Personally I find it very difficult to decide whether they are genuinely as delusional and stupid as they appear or whether they are just a couple of trolls who enjoy trying to wind people up but ignoring them works either way 😀

That is so bloody Sloughbottom Park. Wonder if we can get a couple of the lads to wear the wrong coloured shorts, and someone to forget to tape his earring up, for the full Sunday League effect.

Completely agree, yet there were some people in the match thread, along with Rob Butler on the Radio, saying they didn't see much wrong with it. Bizarre.

Its good to see, we now need to double down to try and keep variants under control. This really is our big chance.......... We have most vunerable vaccinated, Test capabailty is massive, We have huge tracing capabilty and much ( eg Norfolk ) now being done primarily at local level, rather than local follow up of cases the national system couldnt reach, Most are familiar with use of masks and social distancing Best genome sequencing availability in the world Succesfull clinical treatment regimes We have all the advantages .....dont lets blow it!!

Well, Boris certainly feels that Europe's 3rd wave will hit us at some point. While the vaccine roll out, should it continue at its present pace, will no doubt help to a good extent in curbing massive steep rises in new infections, it will not and cannot curb new increases completely. Im trying to be realistic here, not automatically pessimistic, but honestly, there is far to much optimism in these posts in expecting to see the Carra full again and how it used to be. What im expectng at most is a repeat of this season's start, with some trials of small attendances, 2k or whatever, then again just stopping. We should all have learnt by now how adept Covid is at finding ways of infecting humans despite our best efforts and even with vaccination sadly i cant see Carra being back to its noisiest best for a long time to come.
