We must not break up this partnership. They've gelled into a fearsome double act, and tonight was the best yet. Skipp is just magnificent; excellent range of passing, fantastic stamina and brilliant awareness and positioning. McLean is a bully with good technique, a brilliant first touch and an aerial presence. Together they were absolutely everywhere today. I wonder whether Jose would consider letting us give Oli a year of regular PL football next season if we get promoted? Feel a bit sorry for Rupp as he was starting to look the business before his injury, but these two are absolutely unimpeachable on current form.

The way he carries the ball marks him out as a proper footballer, a bit like Harvey Barnes but a couple of years behind him in development. He uses what pace he has to let the ball beat people - it's a skill you either have or haven't got; very difficult to coach it. Two 9/10 games on the spin for me - ran the show both times. If he'd scored one of his chances it would be close to a 10. Brilliant performance.

Putting the cart before the horse a touch. We need to get promoted first, that involves playing our best players, on loan or not. Once that's sorted we can worry about much game time players are getting in certain positions.

As well as he has played, Sorensen is not a left back-our attacks down the left side invariably slow down as he has to come inside to play the ball with his right foot. Having a left footed player at left back is essential and now that we have 2 left footed left backs in the squad, one of them should be starting there.

Can I just say, just how good a footballer is Sorensen? Considering he's been playing in a position which I'm sure was alien to him,his performances have been overall excellent.Farke must be thinking hard about the decision of whether he could drop him from that position! Really feel he could turn out to be one of our best ever signings.

Geeky statistical update time! Cardiff (a) WON Bristol City (h) WON Middlesbrough (h) Millwall (a) Swansea (a) To stay on track, we now need just four points from the next nine. As things stand, the top of the table looks like this: Team Played Points PPG Norwich 25 53 2.12 Swansea 24 46 1.92 Brentford 23 44 1.91 Watford 24 43 1.79 Reading 24 43 1.79 B'mouth 25 42 1.68 By the time we kick off against Middlesbrough, all the teams below us will have played at least once more. Assuming Swansea v Brentford and Reading v Bournemouth are draws, and the top-six games win all the other games, here's the worst-case scenario of how the table could look on the morning of the Boro game: Team Played Points PPG Norwich 25 53 2.12 Watford 26 49 1.88 Swansea 25 47 1.88 Reading 26 47 1.81 Brentford 24 45 1.89 B'mouth 26 43 1.65 If Swansea were to beat Brentford they could also be on 49 points (and the same for Reading if they beat Bournemouth), meaning we'd only be four points ahead of third place. This, however, is a worst-case scenario, and you'd get relatively long odds on Watford winning both their away games and Reading winning theirs too. Beat Middlesbrough, though, and we'd still have our seven-point cushion. Basically, if we can get four points from our next two matches (Boro and Millwall), we could even afford to lose at Swansea and still have a decent cushion. We're in such a strong position that we could even lose our next three matches and the likelihood is that we'd still be in the top two! Following the Swansea game, the next run of fixtures look eminently winnable; 10 points should definitely be achievable (probably more). Stoke (h) Coventry (a) Rotherham (h) Birmingham (a) Wycombe (a) I'm going to float a totally hypothetical, but not totally unthinkable, scenario now: let's just suppose that we beat Boro and Millwall, before narrowly losing to Swansea. We then go on to win all five of the fixtures listed above. That would leave us on 74 points from 33 matches, and would put us in a position where we'd likely only need to win six of our last 13 games to guarantee ourselves promotion. I know, I'm a saddo.

This kid I think is just outstanding. Out of all the ‘left backs’ we’ve had in the last 25 years, he actually looks like he’ll score a few from that position each season. And contrary to the belief of some, he wins some good balls back there, and turns them swiftly into attack. Another brilliant find by our sublime scouting department 👏

I’m not going to call out the people who constructively criticise him as that’s fine but this thread should be for the planks who wanted him sold and wrote him off before he’d had enough minutes and appearances for anyone to make their mind up about him. Silly Billies.

Much as people were saying Hugil isn’t Pukki because his movement isn’t as good then it’s only fair to point out the obvious and say that Pukki probably wouldn’t have scored that chance tonight. Different strengths and qualities.

I don't see how there will ever be a way to resolve this. It happened because the PL was formed and broke away from the EFL. Now they are two totally different entities trying to be part of the same pyramid so everything will always be a compromise, usually with the EFL bending over...

Funny that you mention Jonny Giles as I didnt like him either. A few years ago I met him, I ended up being sat next to him at a meeting. He was warm and funny and was more interested in what we were doing with the young players than being the star of the show. He really did just want to help, refused expenses and was first to the bar after the meeting. I left feeling like id wasted 40years disliking someone id only ever seen playing football.....for teams I disliked.

Do get off you moral high horse. Since February last year we have had daily comparisons between the UK's performance in dealing with Covid compared to the rest of the world and every day it was bashing Britain. I'm not arguing whether we got it right or not but no one accused you of gloating about deaths in the UK or calling you a nasty piece of work. Yet the moment we have some good news about the UK, you become a little Hitler, stomping your foot and telling people what they can and can't discuss. We all indulged you on the Sarah thread and kept politics out of it ask you demanded. But that does not happen on this thread. If you don't like it then stick to your Sarah thread. From the Telegraph: Last summer the UK and the European Union were locked in fierce negotiations, with both sides refusing to budge. Behind the scenes, officials from both sides were searching for a landing zone for a potential deal. Yet the key sticking point was not the level playing field, nor the future of the fishing industry: it was how best to secure vital Covid vaccines. And unlike the Brexit negotiations, there was to be no last-minute breakthrough. In the second week of July, the UK walked away. Talks between the two sides began in June, when the UK had already signed deals with AstraZeneca and Pfizer, with agreements for millions more doses in the pipeline. Officials from the EU offered the UK the chance to join the combined purchasing power of 27 member states, but under a few conditions. To join, the UK would have to immediately cease all negotiations with any supplier also in talks with the EU. The European Commission would have an exclusive right to negotiate with vaccine manufacturers on our behalf, while the UK, unlike EU Member States, would have no say on which companies to negotiate with, how many doses to buy, at what price and on what delivery schedule. “We told the EU, we can't participate like this. For a few weeks we tried to negotiate on governance - basically we were saying we would only take part if we had more of a say. “But the EU wouldn’t move.” Pressure to join forces with Brussels was intense. Leading scientists had published a letter in the Guardian suggesting that a failure to do so would likely leave the UK in a queue with other non-EU countries to acquire the vaccine after EU member states, and on less-favourable terms. Little more than six months later, the EU’s rollout is in disarray. Brussels finally approved the purchase of 300 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in December, while the UK struck a deal for 30m doses in June. This country became the first in the world to sign deals with AstraZeneca in May, and accelerated approval of the Oxford vaccine through the MHRA on December 30. On the Continent, the Oxford vaccine is yet to be approved. After the EU relaxed the rules on member states striking their own deals, the German government has come under fire for lagging behind other countries in accessing the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine - despite BioNTech being a German company. Meanwhile the Netherlands only began vaccinating on January 6, nearly a month after the UK. Speaking to Der Spiegel magazine, the inventor of the Pfizer vaccine Uğur Şahin suggested this week that the EU had hedged its bets, and lost. “The process in Europe certainly didn't proceed as quickly and straightforwardly as with other countries,” he said. “In part because the European Union isn't directly authorized, and member states also have a say. That can result in a loss of time in a negotiation situation where a strong message is needed.

I think the club are probably delighted with Sorensen's contribution this season. He is only 22, coming into a league which is a clear jump from where he was before, all while playing in an unfamiliar position (and impressing when played in his natural one). Skipp was probably brought in with the idea that Sorensen may take time to settle in mind.
