Ps. I am guessing Ipswich is also going to be Tier 3. Probably for the next decade🤭

Do they think they look like some kind of paramilitary force? Absolutely cringe

Before your time, I rest my case, clearly you will never understand an England fan regarding that game. Glad you didn't have to experience it.

According to whoscored it was after the goal was scored. Assume the ref took the view we scored so that was enough of a punishment. As for Emi the first booking was soft, but you see them given, but highlighted what was excellent his work ethic, knew he had over run the ball and just tried to retrieve it, and the second was never a straight red as his eyes were clearly on the ball through out, but was definitely a yellow though as his foot was high. As such it was one of the rare decisions the ref got right. Anyone suggesting that was a dismissal through petulance or sulkiness clearly has a preconceived agenda they are looking to sustain.

Seriously? If you can't recognise that Maddison is a better football player than Buendia then you really should stop watching football! Maddison kept us up almost single handedly, is an England international and plays as one of the better players in a very well established Leicester team; his market value has probably doubled from the £20m odd we got for him. Buendia attracted no bids. Buendia played in a much better team and didn't at all "get us promoted" If anyone did that, it was Pukki, but overall it was a much better team than the one Maddison played in. He also got sent off and missed 3 potentially crucial games - when, incidentally, people like you almost killed Cantwell with abuse because he wasn't Buendia. Emi is a good player - but not in any way, shape or form remotely close to Maddison's standard.

I think he's already on 3, he got sent off versus Stoke, Burnley and also Watford (I believe) last season or the season before didn't he? As others have said, if it is his temperament that is stopping him getting a move then I would rather they keep coming than lose him completely... And despite his record I would not describe him as a malicious player at all, its not like he's put in any Roy Keane / Kevin Muscat type tackles - he's just a bit too eager to win the ball back sometimes, that's literally all it is. Really hard to fault him too much IMO and I don't see it as a significant flaw which would justify him not getting a big money move - although I am certainly thankful for it!

There seems to be an amazing turn around in views compared to the reaction after Delia's letter to Boris....

Yes respect? He'd be a national hero if he had done that for us! Can't believe people are still salty about it 35 years later, after he has sadly passed. Really is embarrassing. The athletic did an article on the hand of god game and mentioned how England had basically spent the first hour of the game trying to kick Maradona out of the game and hurt him. Or in other words - cheating. I also saw this Peter Shilton article and I thought what a miserable, salty, classless man! https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8987779/PETER-SHILTON-Diego-Maradona-greatness-no-sportsmanship.html About 2 sentences of generic condolences before he gets into all he really wants to say - complaining endlessly about sportsmanship / not apologising. Oh and the goal of the century never would've happened if it wasn't for the handball because the English players were still reeling from it. Talk about sour grapes Jesus, he is a national embarrassment. Can only imagine what his family must've put up with the past 35 years! Those poor grandkids must be dealing with some kind of trauma by now.

So pleased for Kings Lynn fans and even the likes of Barrow who have missed seeing their club back in the Football League for the first time since 1972. We're on the home straight now it seems. Great news for all football fans.

McCarthy performed miracles there but the fans forced him out largely because all the irrelevant nonsense about their glorious history gave them delusions of grandeur. And, as Mick himself said to them, "that went well, didn't it?"

According to a leaked cabinet document, Boris is about to announce that Ipswich will be in Tier 3 for at least 10 years 😀

Also strange nobody mentions the late tackle on Pukki during the build up to the first goal (0.42 on the highlights). Late & straight through him. Could easily have been a red.

How on earth would I not understand? I don't lack basic human empathy. You can still be bitter about it but that is no excuse to disrespect a human being who has sadly died. The facft is this is sport, it was 35 years ago, plenty of players cheat in football. Our players cheat, the English players specifically in that match tried to injury him out of the game. That is cheating. All of this saltiness just shows a lack of class way worse than any hand of god act from Maradona.
  16. 1 point
Right , yes, it is nonsensical to respect a man who has just died and not disrespect his death over an incident of cheating that happened 35 years ago. Interesting!

IMO it's no coincidence we have started fashioning more chances, with Pukki in particular banging in more goals, since Buendia has been able to focus and hit better form. He is so important to us - quoting the odd result where he hasn't played so well doesn't really invalidate just how good he is.

We finished that season on 94 points from 46 games. In the 8 games that Emi didn't play we got 8 points. Please don't try to tell me that's a coincidence

My second gig was The Stranglers at Hemel Pavillion in 1982-just after this album was released. I've seen them a few times since-though only once more with Hugh in the band. Always a good gig and JJ is unreal-I don't know how he keeps himself so fit. I played a few gigs in a Stranglers covers band before our guitarist left to join the best Stranglers covers band around, Straighten Out (formerly Four More Heroes). You will be able to see them in Great Yarmouth next |March if Yarmegeddon goes ahead. Well worth catching them. The referees nearly always blow their whistle when a keeper and striker jump together - often there is no actual foul. It seems to be an automatic response more than anything. Although I do think there was enough from their player for a foul, he clearly backs McGovern away from the ball. Based on the usual reaction from the referees I definitely wouldn't have begrudged that decision at the other end.

Imagine the graph that has to plot the cost of cauliflowers relative to it's size with a trend line for the increase in food prices as a percentage. Stat Heaven. 😀

They can complain, but they can't do anything about it. They need to get over it and move on.

Another unknown is whether all season ticket holders could apply regardless of where they live?
  25. 1 point
I don't know how they intend to charge for the restricted attendance games but we didnt have to pay for the Preston game. I therefore assume the club will require me to pay for any games attended this season as an addition to next seasons ticket. I expect the club will let us now how they intend to proceed shortly.

First of all @nutty nigelnigel I'm fine with 2/1 👍 For my picks it was a decision between Jonkopings in the Swedish second division. They always come up top trumps and are in form. (The other is Feyenoord but it's a Sunday match). If Sunday is ok then my main pick is Feyenoord. For us, I'm thinking 2-1 final score (As an aside, I keep thinking at some stage we must score direct from a corner! How long has it been since a CB crashed home a header? Grant seems not to read this particular script but hopefully Ben Gibson can.....can you get odds on this?...doubt it) Edit: Good Luck all!

I went to the Preston game so I expect I will owe one games worth on next seasons season ticket.
  28. 1 point
So 1,000 went to the Preston game has turned into 2,000 under tighter restrictions from December 2nd.....Bonkers if you ask me.Have i missed anything or are we not in a second covid wave since that game in September ?
  29. 1 point
Anyone who attends will have to pay, that was made clear in the letter they sent out explaining the season ticket refund options. But I suspect season ticket holders (as in those who did not take their money back) will be given priority for tickets and as only 2,000 are available, I don't think non-season ticket holders will get a sniff. I'll probably go to at least one match, just to experience what will be a situation unique to this season only, but once I've done it once, I doubt I'll apply again.

Yes, I know but the basis of the appeal is on the first yellow card, and it could well be argued that if a player gets a first, no matter how unjust it may appear, then it is his responsibility to ensure he does not warrant a second. Emi failed in basic self-responsibility and i really hope he learns from this as we need his talent on the pitch and not serving silly bans.

Halilovic is a classic teenage wonderkid who has never fulfilled his potential or looked like doing so. He has played for several big clubs but never had any impact, and there must be a reason for that. Besides, he plays in a position that we're relatively well stocked in and will be even more so in a few weeks. I doubt he was ever seriously considered.
  35. 1 point
And maybe that will turn out to be a good thing. Look at Roberts, Leitner.. I have heard about Halilovic before, and not in good terms. And if that is true would we really want to sign a player who's known for causing issues behind the scenes?

I know that's what some stats say but I don't believe it, not least because in pix of them together Krul is comfortably taller. These figures are not to be relied upon. Soccerway actually has McGovern as 3cms taller than Krul, which is plainly nonsense. But as said before it is not just height but presence, part of which is physical but part also psychological. Krul is a more dominating presence.

Although Ipswich owes him £100m he hasn't actually put in that amount. Ipswich had a loan from Aviva of £32m which Aviva realised Ipswich couldn't repay. Evans bought the loan for £7m. His original intention was to throw some money at the club, get promoted and use the Sky money to repay himself the full £32m. What could possibly go wrong? The interest rate was around 5 points above the base rate and Ipswich couldn't even afford that so every year the interest got added to the debt. He stopped charging interest about 3 or 4 years ago, possibly for tax reasons. So painting him as a Knight in shining armour is way off the mark. He's not remotely interested in football. He just thought he could make a quick £25m and it all went wrong.

In terms of the second yellow, Emi's naivety is not that he goes in for a challenge with his foot in the air, its that he doesn't know the Stoke player is there and assumes he can pluck the ball out of the air with no pressure. If you watch it back, the ball goes up and over his head, he follows it all the way and by the time it is by his foot he has turned 90 degrees and there is suddenly a Stoke player putting his head in there. Ultimately, Emi is a player who in those moments plays on instinct and removing that would be far worse.

I clicked on this . Imagine my surprise after reading the first post for 0.0002 secs a Binner mentioned Paul Mariner and Terry Butcher . Do they ever speak about anything other than pre history ? It is honestly like One Million Years BC. But without Raquel Welch.

We adopted a siege mentality borne out of the fact that we were reduced in numbers and that the opposition smelled blood having scored soon after the sending off. The substitutions by both managers invited such for while we reduced our attacking intent Stoke ended up with five forwards and two attacking midfielders. If we had to face such an onslaught from any side in this league then the giants of Stoke would be the last team we would want to be receiving it from. Thank goodness Fletcher was off injured. It's hardly fair to be critical of any City player under those circumstances, neither Vrancic nor even McGovern, imo. Praise should be the order of the day surely. Handley was a rock, Gibson was cool and Zimmerman was in his element and all the rest deserve mention, whilst our reserve 'keeper, although a bit shaky, made no major bloopers despite being put under constant pressure. They were put through the mill and emerged with three points after all. The most important player we need for Coventry surely remains Pukki and it's good that Rupp could well return, whilst the impressive integration of Josh Martin is a major positive.

I disagree that the second yellow was not deserved, I wont comment to the first as I missed it. His high kick, intentional or not, was reckless which is reason for calling a foul. It was not the fact that he did not actually make contact with the Stoke player but that he did so with disregard for the safety of the Stoke player. This type of conduct should be cautioned, hence the yellow. As for Powell, what a disgrace. That dive outside of our penalty box pretending he got kneed in the face was complete ****. Shameful.

Farke has stuck with McGovern for a few years now so he's not gonna change that now and bring in another keeper over him. I'm not a big fan but we have to accept that he will be playing a few games in the coming weeks. Hopefully he will do well, let's try supporting the guy instead of writing him off.
