He is every bit as good as we think...... unfortunately for whatever reason he has always been played out of position, tasked with defensive duties. His skill, quality, vision and guile make him a natural No. 10. His shooting could be better but then he is rarely in the right positions. The reason for that is, he's been played out of position...... he's not a winger yet people describe him as one.... DF uses him wide where he spends far to much time in deep positions often protecting the full-back (usually Aarons) where he can't impact the game. That is not his game and no wonder he gets frustrated. Personally would play Emi behind the forward and tell him to keep finding spaces in the hole and the others to play off him. He is a mood player but the less he has to defend, the more likely he is to be in the mood! Let him defend further up the field, see the difference.

Oh he is. You cannot doubt his ability. You can doubt his consistency though. That’s why we’ve still got him.

The then and now comparisons; Robin Cook resigned as he had an affair, Boris Johnson became PM after his. John Profumo resigned because he lied to the House of Commons, Boris Johnson became PM after being sacked from two previous jobs for lying. Several MP's resigned from senior positions after the MP's expenses scandal showed that they misused public money, Boris Johnson became PM after giving public money to his mistress claiming it was for 'IT lessons'. Sir Anthony Eden resigned after the Suez crisis showed he tried to cover up a conspiracy, Boris Johnson became PM after he conspired with his pal to get a journalist beaten up.

I am all for sensible virus supressing measures, I always wear a mask and abide by social distancing, it seems to make sense to me. What I am against is the panic inducing projections that have already been shown to be very wide of the mark.

What? Are we still negotiating? Boris promised that he would walk away from talks if there was no deal by the 15th. I can't believe he lied

I know some on here aren't a fan of statistics but the expected goals stat is one of the more interesting ones. As always context is important but for those who are saying we've not been able to break down teams, this helps reinforce my belief that our poor finishing has been the problem. Playing wise I think we've been good.

This is unfair. The professor gave an assessment based on disosed criteria. No one would have understood it as cast iron and they were quite entitled to ask him to re run the figures on alternative assumptions

Even if Trump and Brexit aren't Russian plots, the Kremlin must be toasting the current situation every evening with their finest Vodka. Trump and Brexit ( the latter via Johnson and Cummings) have caused huge social divisions within two of the few Countries with Nuclear weapons. This guy exemplifies the anger which is just beneath the surface for tens of millions of people across the US and UK. Do people even know why they are so angry? Almost certainly not, otherwise they'd be able to do something to defuse it. The populations of both Countries have been manipulated to feel that they are in one of two camps and they feel so passionately about their own camp that they are prepared to lie, resort very quickly to insults and even resort to violence whenever their beliefs are challenged. The parallels between our Government and the Trump Administration are frightening; both respond to any criticism by the Mantra "lie, deny, demean and attack"; both hate any organisation which doesn't just repeat their pronouncements - here its the BBC and some journalists; both want to manipulate and control the Judiciary; both despise having their policies challenged by elected representatives.

W.H.O Death percentage 0.275 overall If you are under 70 it's 0.05 Average lifespan in UK is 81 Average death from covid is 82 The hit to the economy is now four times greater than the financial crisis The hit to other NHS services is enormous It effects the poor the most. The consequences of starvation in the third world will be enormous, up to 130 million dead. The cure is far worse than the disease

That's simply not true broady. In our last promotion season, Vrancic scored 10 and assisted 7, out of the 10 goals, SEVEN were scored in games where he played the full 90 minutes, and four of his seven assists were also where he played for 80+ minutes (3 x 90 and 1x85). So 70% of his goals and 57% of his assists came when he played the full match rather than coming on as a sub. I don't know where this idea has come from that he's only a super sub or can't play a full game, the stats don't lie (and neither did my eyes in that season).

Look at it this way. As Yellow Fever demonstrated above he supports the government policy, and this is true of most on here, even Creative Midfielder. It is 'competence' [read balance] that is in question. The videos are of people who do not support the policy.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You seem to have got hold of the wrong end of a whole handful of sticks while barking up several wrong trees. Look, we all sympathise, we really do. You are missing City1st. His absence leaves a massive hole in your posting life, but I am afraid trying to joust with me just is not going to fill that void...🤓

It is nicely symbolic for Brexiters but it is essentially what the UK had as an EU member with a bit added and a bit taken away. However some people who seem to know what they are talking about and have studied the small print say there is a clause about EU-produced goods being regarded as UK-produced goods (I think I have this right) which might benefit Japan in the sense that it adds to the argument (if that needed adding to) for Japanese countries to site factories in the EU rather than the UK.

Not claiming any expertise, but stuck in the house this lunchtime, I did a bit of reading around the subject of football work permits. I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff in the small print which I’ve missed or just glazed over at, but would like to share what I understand is the state of play with Seb Soto. Apologies to all, not least club and player, if I’ve got this all wrong or have missed out essential information, or even if this ground has all been properly covered elsewhere. If anyone wants to put me straight that would be welcome. Mr Soto didn’t accept Chile’s call-up last month but is reported to be still weighing up between Chile or the USA who he has represented in the age groups and whose head coach Gregg Berhalter wants to keep him on board. USA play Wales in a Swansea friendly on November 12 so you wonder if that may be a key date from our point of view as time plays a big part if we are to see him in yellow and green next season. He turns 21 next July 28 after which time, or whenever the season qualifying date falls, he will need to have played a percentage of competitive internationals in the previous two years to apply for a work permit, instead of the one year as is the case if aged under 21. Whichever, that percentage is on a sliding scale according to FIFA world rankings, for Chile, ranked 9th, it would be 30% of competitive matches, for the USA, ranked 25th, it would be 60%. Sounds a lot, but 60% of say eight internationals, is five caps. USA face Honduras at a centralised US location in June 2021, with the winners playing Mexico or Costa Rica in the Concacaf Nations League semis and final, postponed through Covid from June this year. That timing makes space in the calendar for Concacaf Nations World Cup 2022 Qualifiers to begin in March 2021 – suspect the format for that will be subject to the same pressures to shorten it for virus reasons as other competitions have been this year. So it is possible that only a handful of caps might suffice for a permit application on grounds of being internationally established at the highest level, with any minimum number requirement possibly being flexible in these extraordinary times. So apart from any other work permit requirements the caps criteria would seem achievable if Mr Soto keeps banging in the goals and steps up. If so, provided they are satisfied of a significant contribution to our sport, the FA’s endorsement of an application to the Home Office can be made. If the FA say no the player can appeal but there’s a lot of difficult hoops to jump through at the FA’s Exceptions Panel and my brain hurts just skim reading about those and possible implications of Brexit legal adjustments in all this, but hopefully neither will be necessary or get in the way. Judging by the video clips though it will all be worth the effort and the wait, with two years said to be left on his contract at the start of next season. Anyone know if there’s an option for a further year on that?

I liked the layout. Interesting to see that they forecast a falling off of Reading and Brentford and Watford (at this early stage) to be 2nd and 1st respectively. We are forecast at 4th at this time.

One major difference between the time you admire and now is that previously the majority of MPs had other careers outside of politics before entering Parliament. Today, that is now a minority, and most are career politicians on the university-political research assistant-MP train. As a result they are probably less well-rounded characters with a lifetime of meaningful experience. Also consider that MPs in the period up to the 1970s would have served in the military during the second world war which you might expect would have a maturing influence on their character. I agree with your main point that most current MPs don't seem to be as competent as those from the post war period.

Here’s a report from the icu wards. A big shout out to those doctors and nurses ensuring less people die. It also seems they have now learnt to develop Covid secure areas so unlike last time more serious operations are still taking place as are many ( but not as many ) non urgent ops. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54690374

And now . . . Scotland's deputy first minister says there is a "realistic possibility" that students will not be allowed to go home for Christmas. Some of them may be delighted of course, but it has never been more obvious that power is the crack cocaine of politics - the more they get, the more they crave. Where will it end?
  28. 1 point
All the ingredients are there. To me we just need to have a little more urgency going forward. I think we're often quite slow moving the ball forward and then end up playing in a series of triangles across either side of half-way line. When we push forward more quickly we can seemingly open up teams quite regularly.

Not quite sure how I have blown my credibility, since I believe I was quoting King Canary, who indicated he used past data to set sales targets for his team. And since you shared that you’re in a ‘sales-type’ role, I would again recommend, as I did to King Canary, exploring the Everything DiSC program. It is a superb tool for communicating, not only with clients, but with everyone you meet.

Pretty much this. I think we'll be top two - it's a very weak league and our squad depth will be hard for anyone else to match. I think Stoke will come through. I don't honestly see Brentford as a consistent threat but they will always be a team who can beat anyone on their day. As to what happens if we do manage to get promoted again, who knows? I fully expect West Brom and Fulham to come down again and drag another of the Burnley/Brighton/Palace/Newcastle/West Ham group with them and the polarisation of the leagues to continue. So if we were to go up, what do we do? Bank the money again or splash the cash next time? I don't see our squad being any more likely to "step up" to a PL standard.

If you had bothered reading the posts properly you will know we have been discussing herd-immunity. Herd-immunity is only possible if a certain percentage of the population is infected (susceptibilty is a different issue).

By definition, social media enables village idiots to go global. I maintain many of our problems stem from a FPTP model which inevitably and indubitably dissolves into two monolithic parties, incessantly negative campaigning, gerrymandering, and "if you're not for us, you're against us". As soon as people have to vote tactically instead of in line with their convictions, a democratic model is not really that democratic any more. Our politicians are symptoms of this mess, not the other way around, IMO.

The problem is some scientists, starting out with the best intentions, get turned into mini-celebrities by the media and when their pet theories fail (ot at the very least have severe questions asked about them - i.e her previous 'herd immunity' levels being inconsistent with the virus resurgence) they struggle to be able to admit the issues and retreat quite honourably back to a science based safe harbour. Instead you seem to get then digging ever deeper holes egged on by a gullible public and voracious media.

The debate on here is now just the brexit thread continued. This is a shame as it started so well We all know why the three countries are given as examples but if we want to fully understand the virus we need to look not just at these (though it is important that we do) but also at the likes of Peru Bolivia, Belgium, Spain, Chile etc on one side do pretty much any E / SE Asian nation on the other. Perhaps it is political action (or the lack of it) that drives the figures but let's be a bit more scientific than cherry picking the nations we want to look bad and ignoring the others with comparable data. The argument against Trump, Johnson and Bolsonaro will be improved if it is presented in a less partisan manner.

In the last couple of games I'd say that Hugill has struggled to get on the same wavelength as Pukki, Buendia and Cantwell. That isn't that surprising as, considering his limited time for West Ham it's unlikely that he's played in a team with this sort of technical quality and style of pass and move. I can see us going back at some stage to Stiepermann with Pukki up top. That may not be just yet because we've been winning and Hugill does contribute by adding much needed physicality to the side. However, I agree with some others that he does have a part to play and to some extent we need to get better at feeding his strengths by picking him out with our new found crossing strength with Quintilla. We are a work in progress at the moment and it's vital that all the new players get time to bed in. Apart from Gibson who has looked very much at home, albeit it's easier for centre halves as they have more time on the ball and can keep things relatively simple, the others still need to work on the training ground and learn that familiarity in patterns of play. Hugill has on'y played what, three league games so far. The likes of Placheta haven't really yet shown what they can do but you can see that there is skill and pace to work with there. What I'm encouraged about is that all the signings look like they've got something to contribute given time and work at Colney.

Let me explain. In January 2020 the beds were close on 100% occupied. In February the NHS were put on red alert. In March they received an email warning of impending disaster. The government then put their plan into operation. All people not critically ill or deemed medically fit were to be discharged as stated on the official site this resulted in In Q1 2020/21, the bed occupancy rate decreased sharply to 64%, after trusts were asked to discharge all inpatients who were medically fit to leave to free up capacity during the Covid-19 pandemic. The buildup of Covid was then a gradual thing so yes of course there were empty beds but those empty beds were people missing who were less seriously ill. Cancer and heart wards carried on, but by May a lot of that had been switched to private hospitals that were classed as Covid secure. As soon as Covid was restricted they started catching back up on the emergencies, followed by hip replacements. Even at this point they had to keep Covid secure wards even though they were not occupied by any patients. At present all wards are still open. To all intents and purposes care homes provided the extra beds, with people being released without tests and we know how well that wen ! She is not contesting there were empty beds, but she is questioning why this is not explained.

Blimey! give the guy a chance, a couple of starts in a new system and you want him to be the new Holty. He`s now playing up top with a strike partner, lots of us wanted to see two strikers playing together so lets just give them some time to gel. Results wise we`ve not done too bad lately so once him and Pukki start hitting it off we should have something to get excited about.

WBB as I was told last month and we talked about all the time, good to see the government taking the lead and bypassing the regulatory bodies holding this vaccine back for possibly the wrong reasons...... funny how this announcement of the NHS key members and vulnerable starting to get the vaccine in December coincided with the US starting the Oxford vaccine back up! Hope for normality next year now in sight, by summer next year some fun can be had by families and friends again.

It's sad that some people feel the need to clog up a supporters' forum with this kind of inane b0llox. It has always irked me how such a powerful medium as television is 99% full of complete rubbish. What a waste. Now the internet has served to amplify this depressing indictment of human nature.
