I hate the s(um and love to see them struggle and lose but at the end of the day of the day the majority of their fans are just doing the right thing; following their local club. I actually have more respect for Ipswich-born people supporting Ipswich than I do Ipswich-born people supporting Man Utd or Chelsea. Those fans deserve to have their club continue, even if the number of loyal fans is dwindling to embarrassing levels and they are now a club too small for their stadium (all things I enjoy laughing at). But it'd be a sad day for a few thousand dedicated supporters who are doing football the right way, and for them the hard way. I don't want them to go bust at all. I'd quite enjoy them to plummet into non-league and still witness some of their fans tie themselves in logical knots to claim they are East Anglia's biggest club, whilst Lowestoft beat them regularly, but go out of existence? I can't understand why any proper football fan would want that of any club.

Sometimes the auto-truncation of headlines on featured articles can throw up some misleading headlines. The article shown in the screen grab from the Pinkun website was not as interesting as first impressions might suggest....

After the announcement that they had to forfeit the Spurs game and couldn't either play the U18s or postpone it until next week, the Leyton Orient chairman said, quite correctly, that punishing sides for having players that test positive is just going to mean that clubs won't test. Obviously that risks outbreaks within the squad, like at Leyton Orient, and also the players' families and friends, which in turn risks a larger scale outbreak.

Given the latest Barcelona links i feel we need to be very clear what we agree to. Max is not a Naismith who we are desperate to get off our books and wage bill. He is a key player who is one of the first names on the team sheet and if we have aspirations of going up it will be players like him that make it happen. Yes these are difficult financial times given the lack of spectators but having sold Lewis and the parachute payments the pressure should be off. A loan deal is absolutely out of the question imo under any circumstances, either they buy him or we keep him or sell him to someone that can pay. Barcelona is a big big name but they are £750m in debt, no spectators, terrible COVID and a broken economy. Even an agreement to buy would be foolish, will they be able to pay in 12 months time, what if Max got injured, what if there is a further meltdown in the Spanish economy , why gamble with one of our top assets when there is no need to, there is a danger everyone is getting carried away by the name

Ah, I think I have rumbled Dom's cunning plan. We are going to use the military to ship critical goods to the EU through our bases in Cyprus. That'll show 'em. " Rule Britannia!, Britannia rule the waves, Britons never, never, never shall be slaves" The nations not so blest as theeMust, in their turn, to tyrants fall,While thou shalt flourish great and free:The dread and envy of them all. Forget about Berlin, the Akrotiri Airlift and Dhekelia Depot will be even more famous.

The Daily Mash has just published a fun new questionnaire to determine what kind of voter you may be, give it a try. 🤣 Are you too thick to vote? BRITAIN’S current crisis is the result of voters failing to understand important issues, experts claim. So are you one of Britain’s thick-as-pigsh*t voters? Find out: Who is the chancellor of the exchequer? A) Rishi Sunak. B) Money Saving Expert’s Martin Lewis. If Anna gives Becky three apples, and Charles gives Becky four apples but she gives one back to Anna, how many apples does Becky have? A) Six apples. B) Why’s Charles giving Becky apples? I’m sick of this handout culture where lazy b*stards expect everything for free. Becky is everything that’s wrong with Britain. Name three of William Shakespeare’s plays. A) Hamlet. Romeo and Juliet. A Midsummer Night’s Dream. B) I don’t like made-up stuff. I can’t believe in it. I only watch true crime. What is the EU? A) An international trade organisation based in Europe. B) A dictatorship completely dependent on our money which controls every aspect of our lives and which will collapse without us. Believe me, it’s their head on the chopping block. What percentage of the British population is white? A) 86 per cent. B) Less than 30 per cent and getting lower. Because they breed faster. You know who I mean. We’re the minority now. Which famous event began in 1939? A) World War Two. B) Coronation Street. ANSWERS Mostly As: You are reasonably well-informed. Expect your vote to be instantly cancelled out by some idiot who thinks cats miaowing is an actual language. Mostly Bs: For the good of democracy, don’t vote. Or do some bloody research, but you won’t do that because Google is so hard to use, except when you want a pizza or a w*nk.

I assume this thread is having a go at the club ?. If I am correct in that assumption this is very misleading if indeed you are making out in anyway this was because of something done by the club. It was caused by a heavy challenge by a PNE player. If I am correct in the assumption I have made, please could you explain in your own words exactly how this was the fault of the club ?. Maybe we should tell all players not to dribble with the ball or not to challenge any of the opposing players.

With Dowell out , and us looking to shift a lot of our midfielders on why not sign surman on a 6 month hoolahan ala west brom contract. He knows the club ,brings expertise , plays the style of football we do and could be a low risk option.Just a thought.

This is a really useful article but TBH I'm disappointed with the timings mentioned, I had hoped from previous quotes it would be sooner than this. The points from the three front-runners seem to be : Pfizer - "ready to begin analysis" of their phase 3 data - end October Moderna - "interim analysis" of phase 3 data in November or December. Oxford/AstraZeneca - "on track" to submit for approval before the end of the year i.e. their analysis has been completed by then. So this to me implies Oxford and Pfizer are neck & neck, but Moderna may see if interim results are good enough to justify a short cut to the process (which has already been discussed). I certainly hope with Oxford they are "under-promising" and will be ready well before the end of the year. Also the blow to the gut is at the end where it says it should take a month for approval for vulnerable groups (reasonable enough), but then another 6 months would be needed for approval for roll-out for the whole population. I hope that's more of an estimate for normal times and an emergency process can be followed now, we certainly need it !!

I agree, I've been following this app since you first recommended it and I report my status every couple of days - so far I've been lucky and haven't had to do anything except report I feel "physically normal" as it elegantly puts it. Over the summer, the number of daily cases and active cases had both shrunk to reassuringly low levels, from memory the "active cases" number had gone down to about 30,000. Clearly we're seeing a major resurgence of the virus and let's hope that the measures taken are enough to rein it in, otherwise we need further restrictions for a certainty.

I think NFN NC is spot on, you really must be: "smashing face repeatedly into keyboard then pressing 'submit reply' " You really must try giving that old motto, "Think before you speak" a go. You don't even have to do both at the same time, which would clearly be beyond your capacity.

Devil's advocate, is it that unfair that the most popular teams make more money by streaming directly to consumers? Would it lead to more or less financial disparity than the current situation of billionaire ownership coming in and distorting the league every few years? In an ideal world, clubs would have a shared ownership model and make their money through this kind of streaming, clubs can increase their income by selling more streaming passes and naturally, clubs that are more successful will end up with more viewers.

With that attitude it's just a matter of time before football is put back on ice as the virus spreads from team to team every weekend.
  28. 1 point
Interesting although I suspect some people think face masks stop the virus, whereas all they actually do is reduce the level of transmission. On TV from the US you often see people wearing face masks but in close proximity as if they think the face masks will stop them getting infected, when all they do is cut down on the transmission, so if you're close by someone with it, you can still catch it.

The big issue I found was the lack of homegrown players- I sold Leitner, Hanley and Tettey, spread out payments for any signings and found I did best with 4-3-3 DM using Vrancic in the deeper role, goals mostly coming from midfield as Pukki isn't great on FM.

Article behind paywall in Telegraph suggesting CV has mutated in the states to become more infectious and “ find its way around hand washing and facemasks” now I know this is a sneaky little **** but sounds like it might have an IQ higher than Trumps, which isnt a huge leap for a virus but still, a little sceptical on this one, but will have to see.

Why would that be? WTO with the UK does not automatically mean WTO with the rest of the world. BTW this is the “Positive Brexit” thread. Where is the positive news? All I see is a failure to get anything done, and whining about who’s fault that is - does the government not have a plan? If there is a plan can they tell us what it is and show what has been done so far to execute it?

Clubs have been pushing for this for years - it has been stopped due to the 3pm broadcasting ban mostly. If clubs are allowed to sell streams to fans directly then say goodbye to any remaining glimpse of equality in football. As the article from the Colchester Chairman states, they are already been put at a competitive disadvantage through the money from streaming is worked out. Imagine how much more money a team like Man U or Liverpool could make if they were allowed to sell stream directly to their fans globally? If streaming of all games is to be a thing, it needs to be done through collective bargaining. Either all the income is pooled and divided equally amongst teams or the rights are sold to a third party and the income made is again divided equally to teams. While streaming is a necessity while fans can't attend - I hope it does not continue beyond then, unless the way the income is made is spread in a more equitable way.

Aaron’s is 20, can run, take on players, most impressively can control the ball under pressure and to be fair he can defend. His stats also back all that up. He has immense promise and has proved he can cope every time he steps up a level. If Bayern and Barca and Tottenham are / have seriously considering him then they must agree. Farke thinks he’s good enough and is unsurprised by the interest. None of those clubs generally sign players cheaply and are looking to improve usually. Semedo has his flaws too and has never fully convinced at Barca (not that any of their defenders have - except Alba). He’s been in and out of their team. There is good evidence to suggest Max will be a positive signing even at £30m.

That has a hint of Sparklehorse. Nice one.👍 Something for @How I Wrote Elastic Man Thurston Moore had a webchat with Grauniad readers. This question popped up. 13:11 chaoticink asks: Did you ever want to be a full time, revolving, Fall member? And what is your favourite Fall track? Ta, and keep safe Guardian contributor ThurstonMoore 23 September 2020 1:10pm My favourite Fall track is difficult because there's quite a few – I'm going to say Psycho Mafia. Sonic Youth covered it on a Peel Session, and we did an entire Peel Session in the 1980s where we covered all Fall songs – Psycho Mafia, My New House, we ever did a cover of Victoria as covered by the Fall. I never really fancied myself being in the Fall because I never really wanted to be in a band where there was one leader – that's all there is to it. But as far as leaders go, Mark E Smith is one of the most legendary, by far. A remarkable individual and lyricist and frontman and singer and character and raconteur. Sonic Youth played some shows with the Fall early on, I remember flying from the US to Iceland and then to Europe to play shows with the Fall in 1983 or 1982. And becoming friendly with some of the Fall people – certainly Brix is a good friend. Mark would always make disparaging comments about Sonic Youth and myself in the press, as he was wont to do, but that was part of his modus operandi. By far one of the most significant bands coming out of the late 1970s, is the Fall. Undeniable. I'd play with them now, maybe. I loved both books by the Hanley brothers, their memoirs about the Fall, they're both fantastic. Highly recommended.

Thanks Mark. I'd even go a bit further. I suspect people can broadly be divided into two categories. Those that are busy working, families possibly with children at school and generally not vulnerable. For this group the prospect of having a positive test or even preventative quarantine is very unwelcome and best avoided if at all possible. It causes chaos in otherwise busy lives. Yes I'm sure most will obey the rules but won't go out of their way to get a test unless essential or unavoidable. Then we have the more vulnerable group, largely more elderly. For this group any sign of Covid will be an existential threat and an early test and diagnosis welcome. They may also be less generally busy yet financially secure. Quarantine is less troublesome. Given that Covid is currently believed to be more prevalent in the 1st younger set I might suspect many with symptoms are not readily coming forward.

If the government was honest enough to say that full lockdown couldn't go on for economic reasons that would be fair enough, I might even agree. But no, they blame the rise in cases on the public, even though the public did fine for four months and the rise in cases actually funnily enough coincides with telling people to eat out, go back to work, opening pubs, restaurants, casino's, schools, universities and having no contact tracing app and a shambles of a test and trace system which isn't NHS run but sub-contracted to Serco. But sure, blame a few silly individuals for what's going on. That's much more convenient than the government admitting that they opened up too far and too fast and now they have to u-turn.

Hi All to try and help with a few bits that have been raised on this thread. Our family and friends are part of our social bubble, so if all have season tickets (and you have included them on your account under family and friends) then you can sit together, it was made perfectly clear when we were notified that we would get tickets for another match until ALL season ticket holders have had an opportunity. The "herding" was the most congested, however the area was clearly marked with 2 metre markings throughout, and everyone wearing masks until in their seats (same if you left seat to use the facilities), the whole process when we arrived just after 2.00 and it was quite busy took less than 15 minutes from joining the line to taking our seats, that included the temperature check, ID and bag checks, we were quite happy and never felt at risk. And i'm sure it will get slicker as you could tell the stewards were getting used to their new regime. Once inside (there were three of us) we had nobody sitting directly behind us or in in front, and we had 3 seats empty to the side, the largest bubble we could see was 4 but there may have been more, personally i think they got it right, as had the spaced more there would have been even less of an atmosphere. Finally, a lovely touch before kick off when the Preston GK coach came to the front of the stand, tapped his heart and mouthed "great to see you back" (or similar) before bowing a few times, to a spontaneous round of applause from those in the river end half of the South stand, a lovely gesture, showing that football people know without the fans the game is nothing. Our 3 had my 72 year old mother in law (she hasn't missed a game in almost 7 years home and away pre COVID) and she felt totally safe the whole day. Good luck to those in the ballot for the next games, hope you get to see a win. OTBC

Yes I agree regarding Hoolahan. I was only thinking of the flair type players and whilst EB has only been with us two seasons, he is definitely in that bracket. Those type of players are rare. Whilst EB has a long way to go to match others we have had in terms of longevity, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that if he stays he could replicate some of those performers with his undoubted skill set.
