The early optimism of the Virus falling away seems to be changing quickly to a more realistic understanding that sadly it looks like being with us years rather than a year and all that goes with that impacting upon peoples lives and life styles. I know we have had a poor season but with hindsight we were very fortunate to get promoted when we did it enabled us to shore up our finances, buy and blood young talent that is worth a lot more money than a year ago and get 2 seasons parachute payments. This debate on how we will get lower numbers of fans into grounds has been parked and now there is the debate on when will any fans get into grounds. Given that the kids are going back to school in September we are fearful of increased infection levels in the winter i think we may be fortunate to see hardly fans in grounds before the spring and the better weather and possibly a vaccine. All clubs outside the PL in this scenario are and will see their finances fall off a cliff edge like cinemas and airlines. The next 2 years parachute payments and player sales and hopefully prudent investment gives us optimism more than most clubs that we will still be here in 5 years time and if we play our cards right even back in the PL in the next few years. We can have a pop at the board for not investing last season but we are fortunate by accident that they did not and we could well take advantage of that yet. What will football look like in 3 years time impossible to say even in 3 months time, who will go, who will want to go who will have clubs to go and watch. Anyway in very difficult and sad times our club it better positioned than many andwe should be grateful of that

No, just roundly ridiculed, I'd imagine.

At least Bennett is good in the air and would probably help us to concede less goals from corners and set pieces, which has been a big problem for the last 2 seasons.

    You've confused 'leg' with 'bell'.

Surprised by this response. Here's a player who on leaving us went to Wolves, achieving promotion in a side playing great football. He then played regularly for the same side, commonly considered an underrated part of it. He got a move to Leicester making five starts (admittedly, not many) in a side chasing European football. I think there is a habit we might have our judgement clouded by the player he was. I think he's moved on and developed since then. He knows and loves the club. At 30 he would be younger than both Hanley and Klose. For me, Godfrey plays his best when alongside Zimmermann - if Zimbo could be a similarly influential partner for Bennett, it would be a fantastic move.

The sun is still out. I've got news for you Vinny and you other miserabilists - the sun is still shining. New exciting young players coming in - the latest one stating what a brilliant club this is to come to - and things to look forward to. A new challenge, a further development and improvement of what we are trying to do as a club on and off the field and if we get up again to the PL then we will be better equipped to stay there. I know I might as well be talking to a brick wall than trying to get through to the likes of you, Vinny, but your "I told you so" is about as limp as it can get. 🌞

..said it before...but now Fulham are out if the way, its looks an ordinary league next season, not a lot of money about (other than parachute payments/ sales of players for £20m +) Clearly were Watford to keep their squad together with the likes of Delofeu, Pereyra, Deeney etc , they would be very strong but I dont think we could have asked for too much better?

He would not be a backwards step. Not every ex player is now beneath us, despite some fans' arrogance. I wonder, if somehow we signed James Maddison would you see that as 'backwards'? On an aside: Been seeing your posts for a while now, and despite starting more threads than anyone in the history of this site, you do actually talk some absolute dross on many, many an occasion. I tried my best to ignore your immense amount of nonsense, as I do the others, but sometimes you just have to address the bell end in the room don't you? Oddly most of your posts are just for the sake of having something to say most of the time.

He's deceptively fast. Much, much faster than Klose and Zimbo, and not far behind Godfrey. EDIT: https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/137683-fastest-player-in-the-squad/

I agree with this. Whilst the focus is clearly on developing yoing players, it's unrealistic to have a squad entirely of players under the age of 25. They need some older heads to help guide them, as we've seen with Krul and the young members of our back four. One thing to point out though is that despite his young age, Dowell has actually picked up quite a lot of Championship experience already.
  13. 2 points
Farke has said he wants some experienced Championship operators in his squad. I agree with him. People like Bennett and Rhodes tick that box. Rupp, who has played 0 games in the Championship does not. Neither does 22 year old Kieran Dowell. Simple. And Farke is right, if we want to hit the ground running then we should sign 2 or 3 who know what it takes to get out of this league. Remember that Ryan Bennett has been promoted twice with two different clubs.
  14. 2 points
Recent signing of players well over 25 include Krul, Pukki and Vrancic. Its silly to assume that just because we have a focus on developing our own talent that we may not see the need for some experience now and again. How many points would we have had this season with an inexperienced keeper? Krul has been indispensable. If Klose and Vrancic are on the way out (very possible) and with Tettey in his last season, there probably is a need for a mature head or two coming in.

Another day, another whining Brexiter this time it is IDS, whining that the Withdrawal Agreement isn't what he voted (actually it is) apparently in the rush to tell the voters that they would get it done, so as to win the election, these brexit thickos blocked further discussion on that Agreement worth noting, that like the brexit voters, this cretin did not bother to read the agreement before voting it through, and in so doing blocked the scrutiny the Remainers were demanding we can only assume the rush was to stop scrutiny that would show how Johnson had sold out, and the reality was it was not so much oven ready, as half-baked so have a read, and try not to laugh at the brexiteers too much 😋 https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/ids-slams-withdrawal-agreement-he-voted-for-on-twitter-1-6776090 and there is more of this to come, as the gormless find out just how much they were lied to

It's interesting that Paderborn are in that chart also. Aren't they the Norwich City of German football. Playing much the same way as us with a similar setup?

I'm glad someone has brought this up, it has gone largely unnoticed. It's not like we had our own fans scraping around for "this is worse than *pick a season*" or finding random statistics like "We've won less second half throw ins when kicking towards the Barclay than in 1938". I swear some people revel in the misery; must be some sort of coping mechanism. There's probably still some fans out there "not accepting" relegation too.

If you can’t boo after losing 11 in a row and finishing bottom with our worst ever points tally, when can you? I did plenty of virtual booing.

None of your predictions were/are brave or insightful (a sort of Robbie Savage level), if you'd managed to predict a global pandemic I'd have been impressed. Villa - saved by a homegrown lad and technology failure. Value for expenditure - negligible. Watford spent more than Sheff Utd and are joining us. It's just nonsense.

All this speculation of our players in negotiations with these high profile clubs..... to be in negotiations the clubs have to have agreed and presumably that includes a fee. Clubs can’t just approach our contracted players..... there are rules. we don’t need to sell so the price has to be our call.... let them pay £30-40 mill or leave us alone! Wouldnt sell Godfrey for less than £40m Buendia £50m Aarons £35m Lewis £20m Cantwell £40m Pukki £15m. Ridiculous prices but we don’t need to sell. OTBC

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Beating man city and everton didnt relegate us, losing all those game we lost relegated us Id estimate our current owners have won the most trophies and most promotions than any other owner, I'd take that any day

I know it’s Trump and his words cannot normally be trusted but he has stated he believes a vaccine will be ready long before the end of the year. Now here’s what has made me think this time may have a little more truth. He has quoted Moderna and Pfizer, but not Oxford, but what is then strange is he says we will probably need 2 doses. Isn’t that the one thing we know about the Oxford vaccine ? and Moderna in particular seems to work with one dose. His comments actually seem to coincide with what we have been hearing from the world news about Oxford. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/03/trump-says-us-may-have-coronavirus-vaccine-far-in-advance-of-end-of-the-year.html

Great link, but I'm afraid I wasn't able to follow your advice about not laughing at the Brexiteers...😂🤣 I guess having a somewhat morbid sense of humour is a prerequisite nowadays for keeping one's sanity in our dystopian country. Three quotes in there I particularly enjoyed: Chris Grey, a professor in Organization Studies at Royal Holloway university - “So in 2016, despite having no detail on what Brexit meant, people knew exactly what they were voting for. But in 2019, despite having a detailed Withdrawal Agreement, MPs didn’t know what they were voting for.” Slough For Europe pointed out one of the greatest ironies: “Quite remarkable. Not only did IDS [Iain Duncan Smith] vote for this bill despite appearing now to have not read it. He also voted in favour of accelerating the process of the bill through parliament.” And of course; John Ritchie saw the humour in the situation, writing: “In which Iain confirms that he is even thicker than you thought.” Mind you that last one gave me a bit of a nasty turn when the thought suddenly occured to me that perhaps Ian Dunkin Donut and our very own @SwindonCanary might actually be same person.............who'd have thought 😀

We are not talking about a grumble when the club makes a mistake - we are talking about an (albeit disorganised) group of hiring a banner to try to embarrass the club on national TV. I sometimes grumble at my wife (sometimes even argue) but that's a hell of a lot different to getting a plane with a banner telling her that it's time to go! How can that be supportive?
  32. 1 point
By your definition then, no club in Europe's top leagues are self sufficient. Just about every club is in danger of losing their current position whether by loss of TV revenue, rich owner finished playing with their toy or whatever.

I would like Fulham to be promoted as we would then avoid them next season. They could field 11 cripples against us and still we wouldn’t win.

The happy clappers have actually come out of this rather well. With 19 goals from the 14 games they could clap and 0 goals from the 5 games without them we can see that the Carrow Road clappers are worth 1.357 goals per game putting them top of the 'most valuable supporters before lockdown' table. 👏👏👏👏👏

We might get a decent season out of him but will then get an ageing player soaking up wages. He is exactly the sort of signing you DON'T want in the champs. The league is stuffed full of decent players on their way down. What works best is good players on the way up. Of course experience is also helpful - but I would want someone in the 26-27 year old category for that. Eg..likely to remain decent until contract expires

I don't think this will shock anyone. Need to look to next season now as there is nothing that can be done about last season.

Our wage bill is dramatically smaller this season after the relegation clauses. We're not paying for training ground this season. We're not paying for the promotion bonuses this season. It really isn't Bizarre. Also if we were to sign Bennett (I'm doubtful) it's not like we'd automatically be paying him the same as Wolves are now.

I think it's insane we've got actual fans thinking selling Godfrey for 20 million is a great deal. At what point he has had a top class, experienced defensive partner next to him for any length of time to learn from? He has all the attributes of a modern day, ball playing central defender, the comparisons with Rio Ferdinand are for more than just having him as his agent, and it's blindingly obvious that a number of very good sides are genuinely interested in him, but apparently he's not good enough for us... I'd argue that in many ways, we're not good enough for him, as we've never given him a top quality partner in the heart of the defence, combined with weak support from the midfield and fullbacks who can often be caught having to rely on their pace to even get back on a counter. Given the right support and better coverage from team mates, Godfrey could easily develop into a regular in the England back line, and play for any of the top 6-8 clubs in not just the Prem, but across Europe as well, but hey, let's rush him out the door and hope that Ryan Bennett will prove to be a stronger option.... Pure madness.

Not sure why some people feel it necessary to revel in the forthcoming misery of any set of opposition fans really, when the majority of supporters of any club are just normal decent people - even that lot down the road. Particularly at a club like Bournemouth where they are real fans, who actually go and watch the football, their failure to fill 800 seats suggests they didn't suffer an influx of Johnny come lately's, or have already shed them, so that's one positive to come out of all of this for them. I suppose Southampton hoovered up all the fickles and armchair graduates a few years before they won promotion. Only set of fans to come on here spouting nonsense this season have been Brighton. I suppose if your projected doomsday scenario did happen and a homeless and bankrupt Bournemouth did go under, you'd suddenly pretend this post never happened and you'd be expressing your deepest sympathy to the distraught fans?

I don’t do twitter so I can’t get to see what’s on the link. Having several times castigated fans for complaining about the owners but doing nothing about it I am hardly going to attack this, but I suspect this hasn’t been thought through. A proper campaign needs to start with a plan for the future rather than a stunt. You cannot call for the owners to leave unless you can articulate a viable alternative.
