Hi folks. Firstly, I've cleared this with Pete Raven, and with Nutty from a PUPs perspective, and they're both happy for me to post it. The Norfolk Community Foundation, in conjunction with former North Norfolk MP Sir Norman Lamb, are running a campaign during August to raise money for youth mental health in Norfolk. The EDP covered the story here yesterday, but the short version is that Sir Norman is encouraging people to club together throughout August and collectively walk, run or cycle 500 miles between them in and around Norfolk. Among the ambassadors for the campaign are Delia Smith, Christoph Zimmermann, Alex Tettey, Iwan Roberts, Jeremy Goss, Darren Eadie and Paul McVeigh. As someone who has experienced mental health problems since my teens, this cause is extremely important to me. It's vital that we give our young people the best start in life; a lot of the time, when people turn 18 they are simply dropped by youth mental health services and passed on to adult services, where they often face long waiting lists before being able to resume any support or treatment. As such, I have decided I'm going to have a crack at covering 500 miles all by myself; this would be a modest distance for an experienced road cyclist, but I have no experience of long-distance riding and I'm also clinically obese. I'm hoping that by completing this challenge I will be able to help Norfolk's young people while also improving my own mental and physical health. I'm planning to keep a video diary of my experiences, talking about the journey itself, the people I meet along the way, and my own experiences of mental illness. If anyone else is interested in getting involved, don't hesitate to join the campaign; or if you're Norfolk-based and would like to ride a little way with me, just drop me a PM and we'll sort something out. Even if you can't spare any money, every share and retweet will help to raise awareness. Links below: JustGiving Instagram Facebook YouTube Twitter Cheers, Matt (feedthewolf)

One last thing to add. There are reports today of at least 12 Championship and L1 clubs ( in addition to Wigan ) in serious trouble. I would assume none of those are us ?. If so wether you consider we got there by luck or very good judgement you have to concede the road the board took was the correct one. If our value of players mentioned by Webber for the kids alone is correct then not only have we survived the pandemic but we have assets almost exclusively developed by ourselves of £120m ( Cantwell, Godfrey, Aaron’s, Lewis, Bundeia ). I would again challenge the op to explain to us which part of the plan has failed ? When we will have our club left in tact when many others will see their club destroyed.

Can’t say I see anything wrong with the interview personally. Player at relegated club is considering his future shocker! Didn’t Tettey do an interview after one of the other relegations flat out saying he wanted to leave? I think this is just more honesty in an interview than we are used to from UK media - players are generally much more guarded here and give it all the platitudes.

We've learned: That the financial gap between the EPL and EFL is too big to bridge without a wealthy owner, in one season. That Farkeball doesn't work against superior athletes. That most, if not all, of our players could not step up to the consistent performance level required. That some of those are now being talked of as ÂŁ30m players just shows what a state English football is in. That Tim Krul is back to being a very fine goalkeeper indeed, even if still prone to the odd stupid error. That Ben Godfrey is not a world class centre back yet. Just how easy we are to score against. We never made it hard in any game. Sometimes teams missed their chances (Newcastle, Everton, Bournemouth) but mostly they didn't. We don't cut out crosses; we don't block shots; we don't clear our penalty area; we don't mark at set pieces; we don't track runners; we don't defend as a team. We learned that if we don't solve this we won't be top half next season. That if we do manage to go up again we need faster, stronger players. That if we do manage to go up again we need to recruit better.

It would probably be helpful to the club if you could send them a list of all the players you've heard of, so they have a better idea of whom they can target.

We’ve learnt: That our fans opinions of progression and success differs greatly. That we have very few premiership quality players in our squad. That promotion is pointless without continued ambition. Farke is no wonder manager. Farke is inflexible. THERES MORE TO LIFE THAN FOOTBALL what haven’t we learnt: Our defence is not good enough. Which we already knew from the previous season. Our board don’t speculate. Under our current board we will never sustain premiership status. Football is depressing when you’re not competitive. Although we’ve never seen it quite as badly as we did this time. THERES MORE TO LIFE THAN FOOTBALL.

Your remarkable generosity has really touched me, Pinkun folk. Including my separate Facebook fundraiser, I've already raised a remarkable ÂŁ1,161... and that's before I've even got on the bike! Not to mention all the well-wishes, sage advice and offers of support. I now have a shorter URL for the JustGiving page, from which anyone can access my Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channels. The content will get a lot more interesting once I actually start riding! tiny.cc/colo500 I've also attached a poster that I've designed, in case anyone feels inclined to print one out and put it in their office/place of work/shop etc. Thanks again!

That reads to me as if he wants to go.

Funny how he wants to play at the highest level! Shame he didn’t play in the premiership when he had the chance......I’d make sure he’s one of the first out the door with his attitude and performances, don’t need players who can’t play.

I know what you mean, I am open to any other recommendations for news sources ! Also their reporting is often reactive, e.g. if a body representing the travel industry puts out a story that quarantine is a nightmare for them, the BBC lazily pick it up and report it as news, often just repeating what's been said. I don't mind them reporting the quarantine re Spain, it's the fact that stories often start with them saying things like "The Government is under pressure to reduce the period of quarantine...." when actually what they mean is travel industry bodies are saying the period should be reduced. I often feel when I hear that sort of story that there should be someone standing up for the rest of us and saying back to them : aren't you just lobbying for your particular business and what about the safety of everyone which will be put at risk by easing restrictions ? The BBC is funded by the licence fee and it should report those sort of views but then challenge them, in the same way as they do if the Government says something.

I would like to see us carry on the philosophy that we have. If we end up with a physical side like Burnley or Sheff Utd stopping other teams from playing rather than playing ourselves, I think I would soon lose interest. Playing their style of football will keep them in the division for a year or two, maybe more, but I want to see us playing full on total football. We did in in the late 80's early nineties and succeeded - against the odds - and we did it last season in the championship - again against the odds. It can be successful, but you have to believe in it and stick to it and that way, over a period of time, it will develop as it becomes more ingrained in the players and it gets better and better. The football of the late eighties took a while to come to it's full potential, so we need to be patient and stick with it. If you want to get to the top, you won't do it playing stopping football - you will do it with total football. By the top I mean the top of the PL - top six. That is the challenge. If you aim for mid table mediocrity, that is what you will get. Mediocrity.

According to Sky News the UK government has signed a deal with GSK/sanofi for a fourth vaccine with 60m doses. It’s got to make sense to cover the bases with multiple vaccines like this. Surprised to see it in the mainstream media before it’s been reported here 😂😂😂!

Can't work out which is more moronic; those who think we should be signing "household names" and pretending they knew who Buendia was, or those who think signings are made in chronological order of importance. It's fascinating.

Anyway back to the vaccine. Now being predicted results will be known by November, and U.K. will be vaccinated by the end of the year. Reading all reports over the last few days I still reckon October. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/07/oxford-vaccine-enters-final-phase-of-covid-19-trials-in-brazil-cvd/

From what I've seen and heard, McCallum might even be an upgrade on Lewis. Even if Jamal stays, I'm excited to see what McCallum brings to the party. I think we need to get rid of Aarons though, because if I see his name spelled with an apostrophe one more time I think I'm going to kill someone.

Strange, he picked him when we were in the Championship last season 🤔

Had you heard of Maddison or Buendia when we signed them? Me neither. I think that's why we're not Director of Football.

OP Could you explain which part of the plan either is not working or is on track as I can only see stuff that has happened ahead of the plan. 1. We were near administration and were told over the next 3 years we would have no debts - Achieved after 1 year. 2. We were told the club would be run without risk to it being destroyed - Achieved even after the Pandemic, had we had not been in the financial situation we were, COVID would have been the last straw to our club 3. We were told that we would have a world leading training / academy after 3 years - Achieved after 18 months 4. We were told 3 would see us producing ONE multi million pound player a year that would keep the club in a financially secure position - Achieved 10 times over 5. We were told we would be promoted after 3 seasons - Achieved after 2 seasons 6. We were told that when we were promoted there would be a likelihood of going up and down for a number of seasons - Achieved to date 7. We were told that the person achieving 4 would be sold to keep us financially secure and our squad would gradually be added to - In my view Achieved as we built a team from the Maddison money to get promoted and then then last year gave that squad the chance to keep us up. 8. We were told over 5 years there would be ground expansion if most of the above were achieved - That seems to be on track as we have now bought and own the relevant land. 9. Players would be brought in who were going to be big names before they got injured, giving them the chance to resurrect their careers with little risk to us - I would say achieved with Krul, Pukki, Hernandez, Byram if he stays fit, whilst those that haven’t cut the mustard were quickly moved of our budget, some moving for a profit. If what we have done to date is so bad why are people remotely bothered about wether we sell any of our players as 7 of those were pretty much regulars in a team that performed worse ( the same people keep pointing out ) than any Norwich side before them. Maybe I have missed something ? Which part of the plan is not on track at the moment ? Had we have finished 6th when we got promoted, then destroyed the Championship last year would you be claiming Webber was a failure now ? One last point we have had parts on here of the Bilic interview. It scoots round the fact that what he said was ‘ our players ( meaning the wba players, not our players ) are more suited to the Premier league, in fact when we played Newcastle 3 of my players came to tell me you get lots more space in the premier league ‘. Word for word that sounds exactly like we thought and did.

Nothing much we didn't already know I think. The gap from Championship to Prem is still big, some underestimated that Spending loads doesn't guarantee you stay up, spending nothing guarantees you don't Momentum is easily lost but tough to get back We'll learn far more about Farke, Webber and the long term viability of this project next season I think.

We probably could do with Fulham going up but I'd like to see Brentford do it

Last time he did it his way, he spent a load of money at west ham and got sacked with them threatened by relegation. I'm not sure his is a voice of wisdom!

...could be the first murmurings of a little bit of discontent within the dressing room concerning the tactics which where deployed. Obvious the players were not displaying any degree of desire or appetite for a fight post lockdown.
  31. 1 point
Implying that people who could see the point of the approach were the club's "spin doctors" is pretty derogatory.

Indy, I wasn't going to go back into this, but as you have! We agree on the basics, I think, but I do not at all rule out the possibiity that Smith and Jones had been trying to get Bowkett to join the board well before the lenders got involved and demanded a heavy hitter to sort things out. It is what I would have done after Bowkett launched his attack on how the club was being run. Partly from genuinely wanting his expertise but also perhaps cynically getting their fiercest critic inside the tent rather than outside. It is a pretty well-known ploy in business. That quote from Bowkett suggests they had been trying to get him on board prior to the crisis, and that would link in with the sacking of Doncaster. There is some evidence that they had already decided to shake up the boardroom.

Ah! But the truth is we had much better players then. Relative to the time period. They had skill, guile and strengthen. They were simply better all round players.

I Would sell if we got a offer , has looked half the player since his injury will he return to a 20 goal a season striker ?? Something is not right injury or maybe just confidence but something looks totally different with him
  40. 1 point
That is a fair assessment. Getting promoted is needed every few seasons to keep the system going, but equally, it puts pressure on the Smiths because we don't spend any money because of the former. That is the main reasons why their tenure cannot succeed, which never gives the club a chance. I'm pretty sure on record that Delia has stated that the club is no better off by getting promoted because of the increase in expenditure etc. While that is somewhat disingenuous, there is some truth to that too. Again, another reason why the club needs a financial backer.

He's been saying that for at least a year now. I'm sure if Pukki ended up at a club like Newcastle (or similar size) and just sat on the bench the Finnish manager would then be saying 'Pukki should be playing football every week'.

Not happening, you really haven't been paying attention to what the club is trying to do and the money they have to do it.

It always strikes me when I read threads like this just how abjectly dim a proportion of our supporter base is. Yes this season has been a footballing catastrofcuk, and I cannot abide relegation - especially when we pass Leeds going the other way. But. * You don’t get a big wad of cash upon promotion. It is paid in instalments. See also parachute payments * No-one wants to “invest” in Norwich City. If the majority shareholders were rejecting takeover offers left, right and centre do you not think that maybe, just maybe, the press might get wind of this. There may also be a duty to inform shareholders of offers, someone who knows more about company rules could answer that. * “The board” could have mortgaged the club’s future for a better shot at staying up. The last time this was tried NCFC ended up back in the Championship and close to administration. Only selling James Maddison prevented this from happening. * Delia/the board/the tea lady aren’t “trousering the money.” The accounts are published and are there for all to see. Just look on the Companies House website. If you repeat claims that the owners are pocketing money then I submit that you are mostly bone from the neck up. * The general consensus at the start of the season, and certainly after we beat Man City, was that a good approach had been taken re transfers and spending. There’s a hell of a lot of revisionism going on here. * Setting a target of being a top-26 club doesn’t mean no ambition. It’s realistic. Would you rather Delia came out and said “we have the ambition to win the Premier League in five years?” Of course not as it would, rightly, be derided as bunkum. Being a top-26 club does not preclude further ambition. Having this target does not exclude having an improved target once this one has been reached. Norwich City is a mid-sized, provincial football club with a very strong local supporter base but little international support and marketing potential. Norwich itself is small provincial city with little in the way of opportunity for large international investors. There are no major infrastructure projects and poor connectivity to places with secondary interests potential new owners would look for. The club is also, now, financially stable, meaning investors can’t buy it on the cheap and turn a quick profit. The reality of the club’s position is that it must live within its means or stand the very real risk of going out of business. Would you really prefer a couple of mid-table Premier League finishes followed by relegation and then administration, over attempting to build something sustainably?
