I feel the same Franko, never really 'got' him. Sure I am pretty ambivalent about him, but honestly cannot see how he got so big( no fattist jokes please, I hear hes a touch sensitive). For some reason the Americans want to throw money at him, totally perplexed why.

I said a few days ago that Boris has blood on his hands and was shouted down for it. We were promised thousands of ventilators. We are getting 30. Not 30,000. 30. THIRTY. Boris refused to sign up with the EU to bulk buy ventilators and PPE for health professionals because of Brexit. I can't believe anyone is saying he is not responsible and he's doing a good job. He has done his standard laissez faire twatting about and people have died because of it. Here's your "admin error" as Johnson called it, in the link below. 8 ****ING MEETINGS in not an "admin error" it's gross negligence and incredulous levels of incompetence.... and now he's hiding. Again. First it was a fridge, now he's having the world's longest case of Covid19 to avoid having to answer questions on his disgusting disregard for the lives of the country. Brexit over breathing. Utter disgrace. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/30/uk-discussed-joint-eu-plan-to-buy-covid-19-medical-supplies-say-officials "herd immunity wasn't the government strategy, it was taken out of context" was a reply I received a few days ago - watch this and then tell me it wasn't the strategy. You can't whitewash history in these days. Germany can test 100,000 per day. We can't even manage 5 figures most days. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/coronavirus-boris-johnson-eu-medical-equipment-brexit-latest-a9428401.html If you voted Tory and plan on clapping the NHS tonight, you can quite frankly go **** yourself because doctors have died needlessly due to the ****ing clown you put in number 10. and for the record, no, this isn't an anti-Tory rant, it's an anti-incompetence rant. Rishi Sunak etc have proven themselves sensible and capable. Boris and Hancock have proven themselves incompetent and dangerous.

Several thousands I’d guess at several thousands across the mental health trust. Staff were improvising and making their own masks last week. Can’t see testing happening any time soon. Boris should have scrapped the patronising letters and focused on testing kits.

Apart from anything else the look of the thing is awful. Totally ham-fisted PR. The club should have stressed the main aim was to help the non-playing staff on ordinary wages, talked at least in hopeful terms of getting a voluntary cut in players' wages, and and tied the announcement in with what seems now to be an initiative involving the players to help the community.

Not just in a pandemic unfortunately. As mentioned earlier, 25 year old extremely healthy footballers can drop dead without any warning. All sorts of people die when they “shouldn’t” have died. Always very sad of course, but important people remember that it isn’t just coronavirus and get overly panicked.

To be fair, the main idea behind protecting yourselves and others has mainly been ‘stay at home’, something I don’t think Boris et al could really have done. As for your first post, regarding trust, yes you’re probably right, but I think the economic package that has been provided (fairly quickly as well other than perhaps for the self employed) will also live long in the memory - especially as I fear we will be seeing absolute devastation for huge numbers of people in some countries where the economic package isn’t anywhere near as good as ours. The other point I made yesterday though is that how the government reacted to the outbreak is only one part of the story. The other is the long term lack of funding of the NHS. I’m sure there will be more than a few people considering how a decade of austerity under the Tories may or may not have impacted things.

There's homeopathy and then there is sticking a metal straw into a bear's gall bladder whilst it's still alive to drain the fluids from it, whilst it's in a cage that is way too small, where it has spent it's entire life.... I'm not going to defend homeopathy but I'm not convinced that there's any kind of true comparison to be made... that's without even mentioning rhino horn or tiger penis or any other ridiculous ****e they believe. Mad cow disease came from contaminated feeding of cows, not humans eating rodents and various endangered animals.

It's not just us though. The US shared in the major H1N1 epidemic in 2009/10 when over 60 million Americans were infected and almost 300,000 died worldwide. They appear to have learned nothing from their own quite recent experience, let alone learning from someone else's. But at that time, the UK and most of Europe did manage to stay relatively unaffected - whether by accident or design is very difficult to say. Some countries do benchmark - but often it's against Sweden, who have long been held up as one of the best heathcare systems in the world (perhaps along with Singapore). Yet this time around Sweden are ploughing their own furrow and haven't yet even locked down. These are very difficult arguments with no agreed right answers - having said all of that the UK governments responses to date have been confused to say the least.

It is a time for responsible capitalism everywhere and not just in football. Leaders of businesses need to forgo bonuses for the time being, high earners should cap salaries. Even if it doesn't make that much difference in a financial sense we need to see a show of solidarity from those in the public eye, otherwise this could lead to instability and discontent throughout society and then we would be in big trouble. It needs sacrifice of from those who have it good when times are good. It's the right and moral thing to do when many are faced with hardship and economic meltdown. I'm really surprised at our club given the religious and socialist credentials of our owners that they haven't realised the importance of moral leadership at this time.

Yes I can see this is turning into an all too common general anti-Chinese rant based on a few disturbing videos or newspaper articles and little to no first hand experience so I'll leave it there. I treat people as I find them - no 'tropes'. I enjoy the differences and engage with other cultures - and generally all over the world people I meet are good, friendly and helpful - indeed pleased to meet people of differing cultures to themselves!

Many of the fundamentals of chinese healthcare are very smart, for instance you pay your doctor when you are well and they have an overview of health that holistic. But there are some chinese that follow a totally irrational connection betweeen certain animals parts and different forms if potency improvement.... something that would have looked out of date in the dark ages. Just goes to show that in the most voracious technologically advanced nation there are still many dark corners of ignorance. So glad I live in Europe , despite its current travails.

The good news is that the Belgians are actually recognizing the inevitable and now addressing the issues. Unlike the EPL that currently still has it's head buried in the sand.

I am not surprised. You know full well that you have been misleading and economical with the truth. The way you have dissembled was outlined at length but you chose to avoid this and to simply repeat the untruths that peddled from early on. You have invented claims that you "have been misquoted" without ever producing a shred of evidence that this was the case as used misinformation, obfuscation and pedantry instead of reasoned and logical discussion. It was naive of me to expect that you might try to be more reasonable and I probably should not have engaged with you so long.

It was due to anti-government riots, with six rounds of matches left to play. The top team were declared champions as they were 13 points clear. The bottom two stayed up, and from the second tier they promoted the top side, in the one automatic place, and the higher of the teams in the two play-off places. Presumably they wanted a league with an even number of teams. That only increased the division from 16 clubs to 18. Increasing the EPL to 22 - by taking the two sides in the automatic slots - in the current circumstances would seem the last thing they would want to do. But there are some arguments for it. It would mean the season had not been a total waste, and would probably attract fewer lawsuits than voiding and certainly fewer than abandoning and relegating as well as promoting.
  29. 1 point
I totally agree that we are not alone but that doesn’t mean testing PPE and ventilator plans in the UK have not been a mess. Germany and S Korea clearly did have an emergency plan and the UK clearly didn’t. And we know that the UK prioritised populist nationalism emergency planning over healthcare emergency planning. I repeat you would not expect to have everything in place but you should have a plan to put everything in place. UK society had the wrong priorities.

What I do find absolutely remarkable is that despite the EPL being one of the richest leagues in the world, one of the most popular in the world, and one full of international players that there seemed to be absolutely no thought or legislation for what happens in the event a season cannot be completed due to external forces. Surely, if there was something in place within the rules indicating that a season will be voided if it becomes impossible to complete for specified reasons (war/pandemic etc.), there would be no possibility of legal action and/or a plan to recompense or reach an agreement with the broadcasters accordingly. I was certain that this would have been thought of by the EPL, but people much cleverer than me suggest there is nothing in the rules anywhere with regards to the current circumstances, which I find absolutely incredible.

Not just in the next couple of weeks. The £50m the EFL made available to clubs was actually just an advance on money they were due in a couple of months and a loan facility, so all they are actually doing is kicking it down the road a bit so all the club's don't fold at once...

Another attempt to engage sensibly with you Aggy, although I can't help feeling that I am being a little naive in attempting to do so. I recognise that there is a possibility that I am being unfair, but it does seem to me that you may be deliberately obfuscating and denying that you have said things in an attempt to justify what you have said. It is not a tactic that is unknown to someone else on this thread. I have never misquoted you at all. Every word that I have quoted from you was a direct, verbatim quotation. The govt was receiving so flack for lack of preparation but you sought to provide some justification for this (page 42) I pointed out that the oncoming crisis was known about in January. Despite the widespread criticism by NHS staff and other essential services that they did not have adequate PPE equipment, you maintained what I believe to be a specious defence that six months ago (September/ October) we wouldn't have been pressing for extra ventilators You then sought to pretend that the crisis was unknown about and that nobody had recommended action earlier This was despite the fact that it was pointed out to you that the knowledge was in the public domain. I went on to state that it was unfair to ask NHS staff to risk their lives because of inadequate equipment. Instead of agreeing with this, you questioned whether I said this 6 months ago. (goodness knows why). I presume you were making this argument six months ago? Or do you think coronavirus is the only infectious disease that exists? 1. It doesn't take six months to source PPE! This seems like a complete smokescreen on your part. The equipment could have been with NHS staff, care workers and other essential staff now. Whether or not I was saying this six months ago is totally irrelevant. 2. This is not a crisis which emerged suddenly in March. Despite you seemingly disingenuous attempts attempts to move the debate to six months ago, before the crisis emerged, the issue did begin to emerge in January and this is when the govt should have acted rather than an arbitrary date in Sept/ Oct which you for have selected for reasons which smack of dissembling. I recognise my naivety in giving a detailed, sensible response and am aware of the danger that in doing so I may be feeding the satisfaction that a few seem to obtain by playing games, but retain my belief that the vast majority who post on here are well intentioned and hope that this is the case with you and hope that your point is either arcane or simply unclear.

It's a rage against all nature, sonyc. Just in the last notes you hear the ghost of the love she's lost to bitter hatred. I find her remarkable. She can express a bigger range of emotion in a couple of notes than others express in an entire career. Any classically trained singer will have a 'better' voice, but that's not the point. It's about expressing something true about being human, something real, & that's what (for me) she is capable of like no other. This is the most powerful song about domestic violence, & it doesn't need to say it:

Germany has increased its ICUs to 40000 and ventilators to 30000. The UK is more in line with Spain and Italy. I’ve no interest in nationalistic jingoism. I am interested in why some countries do some things better. I have long wondered why countries don’t benchmark themselves against other countries to see what they can do better in both directions. Circumstances are always different so not always transferable but surely learning from other people is better than nationalism. At least scientists and medics are not so nationalistic and see the obvious benefit of working internationally. Hopefully an important lesson for the majority from this crisis.

In tandem with Webber saying he's not prepared to ask the players for a wage cut I just don't feel comfortable with it. Effectively tax payers money (the scheme) is being used to underwrite the players massive salaries. I can"t think any basic or higher rate tax payer can be happy with this.

I'd be amazed if Johnson, Rees-Mogg, IDS etc adopt a strategy whereby the wealthy tax dodgers are taxed properly so as to not need an extra burden put on business. Maybe they could follow the EU and have a serious chase of these tax dodgers, and perhaps stop the big companies shifting their profits around so as to avoid paying tax in the country where those profits were generated. But then a quick look at who has been funding Johnson will tell what will actually happen

Lakey, I fell what most people would agree is that Vrancic is certainly a talented player, and it's a case of horses for courses sometimes. Vrancic against Championship sides is different to Vrancic against certain Prem sides.
  49. 1 point
Yes Vrancic is a good player but he’s the definition of a luxury player. Moments of brilliance that will have fans adamant he should be starting more games (or coming on more often) but when he actually does his weaknesses are all too readily exposed and the team more often than not suffers because of it. Unfortunately he’s shown he’s not a good enough all round player at PL level to warrant a consistent starting place. Let it go, Farke has again, got this one right.
