The whole episode was laughable. Go back to the flag and the whistle.

I have never come closer to not renewing my season ticket than I was under Hughton. Miserable, negative, sleep-inducing football that paid far too much respect to the opposition every week. We are naive and we're not good enough for this level, but we'll flourish again next year. If you're pining for Hughton-style football, you're going to spend a long time pining.

"And still no one has asked let alone answered the only two questions that matter: Will Brexit make me happier and will it help me live longer?" No and no. Have a look at the brexiters on TV. They've got what they've wished for and they're still angry. I voted for remain mainly because I didn't ever see it as the all encompassing behemoth or problem that was told to us. I wasn't particularly pro-EU at the beginning but I couldn't see the point of leaving it. My life had never been negatively affected by our membership, and if leave voters were honest, neither had theirs. It was clearly a scapegoat for poor domestic policies and, after the last few years, this has proven to be accurate. What made me certain of my vote was the stupid lies right from the start. If someone was going to blatantly lie about a very important change to our lives then what else were they going to lie about. No trust in these people meant they weren't getting my vote. I've lost but I haven't sold out and I still know I'm right.

Paul if you actually knew anything about fishing, which you clearly don't, you would know that it was the UK government that trashed the industry (rather than the EU) by allocating most of the quotas to large companies rather than local fishermen. The industry is also much smaller than it was because we were grossly overfishing our own waters and the industry wouldn't exist at all now were it not for the quotas which have been moderately succesful in turning it into a sustainable industry.

He's probably knackered, playing all the club games and all the internationals, hasn't had much time off. The games he's been involved in have been emotionally charged too, it must take it's toll. Hopefully this winter break will see him with his feet up refreshing himself properly.

Two weeks ago they said we were the best team ever to be bottom of the PL. We're still bottom so what do you want them to say now

Pukki is only in the top ten for goal scorers. He's been an absolute disgrace all season. I'm sure if he was the leagues top goalscorer we wouldn't be bottom of the league. #letdown

Nil nil draw, we’re 7 points adrift, nothing they can say about this game that doesn’t apply to 60% of our other games this season. Why give us the coverage?

I'd say 'most' Norwich fans probably like watching Ipswich lose.

Anyone see the Liverpool highlights? Danny Ings penalty, not immediately a clear one to the ref, although he was in a good enough position to give it. Liverpool go up the other end and score. Penalty looked at by VAR, and NOT given? What is the f*cking point in this corrupt piece of sh*t? To show balance, and point to incompetence rathe than corruption, Firminho was on the goal line and a cross came in and he was rugby tackled to the floor and VAR STILL didn't give a pen. I repeat, what's the point? I accept we're going down and quite frankly I can't wait.

I do quite like the NFL, though. Fancy the 49ers tonight... when the top offense and the top defense meet, it's usually the defense that comes out on top.
  15. 1 point
Certainly dont think its a given that he should walk straight back in...and nor should he. We've looked better defensively since his injury and now suspension ...and if he does it should be more zimmerman whos under threat than hanley

Waheyyyy! That's my hat-trick. Feeling very proud. It wasn't the biggest payout, but every little helps!

It's certainly true that the EU generally is more interested in fish and eats a lot more fish than we do in the UK but I don't think the UK has a particularly strong position - firstly for the reason you describe and secondly because a large proportion of the fish that we do eat in this country comes from EU waters. So despite all the sound and fury (and nonsense) there is a mutual interest in a deal on fishing, and at a guess it will look pretty similar to the current arrangements, with a tweak here and there to satisfy the gullible.

Definite red for Sterling, no question. Awarding the penalty, can you say it's a clear and obvious error? Personally, no; but it's the 2 minutes of play that passed between the event and the decision that makes it farcical. The excuse is that the ball didn't go out of play- so what happens if the first time the ball goes out of play is a Spurs goal? Second penalty, there is contact but IMO correctly not given- it's one of my pet hates in football, where Sterling has essentially booted the ball out of play, stretching for the ball in order to get some contact in the penalty area. He was in no way going to be able to keep control of that ball. The problem is that these situations aren't refereed like that consistently. Ultimately, as I said on the other VAR thread earlier today, it isn't the technology being the problem. It's the absolute clowns implementing and running it.

No counting of chickens here, but it is now 3-0 after 68 minutes.

Yup, now you have your precious Brexit, you still won't take any responsibility for it... ...seems about right.

Why blame MOTD? Their fans want to see goals. There weren't none. That's why we are bottom.

Yep fair points. Again though, while there’s an argument that hitting the woodwork is unlucky, there’s another one that actually if the players were that little fraction better, it would have nestled into the top corner instead. It’s small margins in this division, certainly in the bottom half (where I don’t think there’s much difference between anyone really). There have only been a few games this season where I’ve thought we just weren’t even slightly competitive. Most of the time, we’re close but just not quite good enough.

They don't have much in the way of assets. Portman Road is almost a liability because they don't own it but have to pay rent and repair it. Evans already owns the training ground. Their fans think Wolfenden and Downes are worth money but no one else does. They are well and truly absolutely ****ed 😂

I suspect the plan was for him to be a squad player/back up last August. Amadou not cutting it, defensive injuries, Leitner fading, Trybull looking a bit out of his depth, Vrancic injured etc. led to him once again being the lynch-pin. He certainly hasn't done a bad job, as always, and he must be really looking after those creaky knees to be fit & available week after week! I love Tetts but for me deep-midfield is the area where we've been over-powered on a consistent basis for most of this season. The standard is very high at this level around midfield and we haven't met it on a consistent basis. While I wouldn't be upset if Tetts hung on for one more year, we need our own Makelele/Kante/Roy Keane/Ndidi clone moving forward. Perhaps we already have him on the books (Gilmour, Sitti, Thompson...?) but it is such a crucial position that the club needs to get it right this summer. You would assume the club is tacitly preparing for a big promotion push next year. Relegation means the right calibre of CDM recruit won't come here, yet they're necessary to make a real fist of staying up once you're here. Bit of a catch-22. Still love Alex T though!

Also see the clear and obvious pass-back to the Liverpool keeper not given. Watching the Juventus - Fiorentina game currently, where VAR has been called into use twice. Once, to check a possible pen that wasn't given (no delay), and secondly using the pitchside monitor to correctly give another pen for handball. The thing that stands out for me is that there is no shouting or screaming in the face of the ref for a decision, or mobs of players following him around trying to bully a decision. There's the normal appeals and wavy arms, then the players got on with it. It's all a lot more respectful and I would suggest that comes down to the way the technology is being used. It says a lot that at half time in this game, I can't help but feel really positively towards VAR but utter the term regarding a PL game and I shudder at the thought. It isn't the technology, it's the people using it.

Because I'm a football fan and I have to experience VAR from my seat in the Barclay and therefore have an irrational hatred towards VAR. Hence my irrational ramblings.

I remember before 1973 most of our apples and oranges came in from south Africa, our meat from Australia and our butter from New Zealand, and transport costs have collapsed since then. The world is our oyster

Just saw the faux Telegraph front page. Seems like there's no cake to eat ! I suppose the Brexiters need to get the blame in early. Won't change anything though. We are now a 'third' country as far as the EU is concerned. The real world already catching on quick. I wonder how the UK (sorry England) will now have to change to compete - Singapore model, US model anybody? Really really wouldn't want to be unskilled or 'left' behind in such a knowledge based non- manufacturing 'Minford' economy.

I've still enjoyed watching us this season. I mean, it's mixed with frustration most times because we're so close but not getting what we deserve. But once you're down at the bottom that happens, or at least all fans feel that way. It's still better than resignation in every game that you're barely going to see your own team lay a glove on the opposition and just sit back and hope. Go 1-0 down and continue to do the same. I'm already looking forward to next season and the January window re-enforced my view that we have a long-term plan and our scouts are a bit smarter than the lot on here who think "Y wE nOt SiGnZ kOuLiBaly"

I’d love us to stay more than just one season in this league. People who hate it are just in denial with their reasoning. We just can’t hack it with the big boys I’m afraid.

Very true. As a couple of years ago he was looking superb in our midfield as a teenager. One that may never materialise unfortunately. P.S Love Alex Tettey. Solid dependable and puts in a shift each game. I say enjoy him as this may well be his hurrah.

While on my way to the Truman Gallery I spotted this pair of world famous artists, Gilbert and George. They do some really off the wall stuff at times. True eccentrics who always wear the same clothes, winter and summer apparently. Taken on a cold and miserable day using my iphone so not a great capture.

Truth is, transition arrangements saved Brexiters from themselves." David Allen Green 30th January 2020. "One day in and so far: No food riots. No medicine shortages. No gridlocked motorways. Gotta do something? I just hate the league. I hate how uncompetitive it is. I hate that the only way to compete is with dubious external backing and I hate the plastic fans it draws. I’m begging for a European super league to be formed. It’s the only thing that will save domestic football.

It was a 0 0 draw! So was the Man Utd match! Rightly both matches were near the end of the program as every other match had something to show and analyze, including the now famous incompetence of referee Simon Hooper! What is there to say about Pukki and a “one on one” other than he should have scored, Cantwell’s potential penalty, McCleans header and Hernandez late chance. Absolutely nothing, it was a 0 0 draw!

Impossible I think to predict how it'll turn out, but it's the end of an era. Security wise - after 70+ years of (relative) peace in Europe , I hope that will continue. Economically who the hell knows? (but I DO give a **** about it) Onwards and upwards (or sideways, or downwards) 🤨

Well of course! I much prefer watching Norwich win to watching Ipswich lose. But when we don't win, I take great pleasure in watching Ipswich take a sh*t with their clothes on in front of 21,000 miserable fans.

Here’s a few goal to shot stats (these might have been before today but from bbc website): Pukki 1 goal every 4.27 shots Kane 1 goal every 4 shots Salah 1 goal every 4.28 shots Rashford 1 goal every 4.21 shots Abrahams 1 goals every 4.59 shots. Mane 1 goal every 4.55 shots Raul Jimenez. 1 goal every 5.45 shots Firmino 1 every 6.88 shots Gabriel Jesus 1 goal every 5.67 shots. Chris Wood and Calvert Lewis 1 goal every 4.1 shots The only players to have scored 10 goals or more with significantly better goals to shots ratios are Sterling, Aubameyang, Ings, Aguero and Vardy. So hardly anyone in the whole division would be doing a better job than Pukki in our side. So, you’re right, if Pukki hadn’t missed some chances recently, we might not be bottom. But to get a player who would convert more regularly than Pukki would cost us probably over 100 mil. I think the problems are just possibly elsewhere in the squad.

Try some poetry The sand of the desert is sodden red, - Red with the wreck of a square that broke; - The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead, And the regiment blind with dust and smoke. The river of death has brimmed his banks, And England's far, and Honour a name, But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks, "Play up! play up! and play the game!"

We have never been a good fit in the EEC/ECB our political view and system is too different to the rest of Europe which is also primarily socialist. We only elect socialists when they manage to dominate the middle ground. Europe is wonderful but it is tribally so diverse a union is doomed in the long run. The EEC is basically a mechanism to reconcile Germany and France and it was working until German reunification. Germany is too big now and German expansion has caused instability for 150 years. The Germans are great people but make bad leaders. We now have to work together for this country. We need to increase our confidence and unify. Brexit apparently made us a laughing stock. What it will prove is we are still the world's greatest democratic people and by that I include British people of all heritage who follow the ideals.
