Just back from Colney where the U23's kept up their recent good run with a narrow 2-1 win. An entertaining game with Shae Hutchinson scoring both our goals. Was evenly matched at 1-1 before Villa had a man sent off and we dominated from there on. Louis Thompson played for us, seemed to be a magnet for fouls with three Villa players booked for offences against him and went off in the second half after treatment for an injury. Hopefully just precautionary. As ever it was good to see the youngsters playing in the same manner as the first team with excellent passing and movement and composure on the ball (although interestingly they man marked at corners and set pieces rather than zonal). Players who particularly caught my eye on the day were Archie Mair in goal - imposing, good kicking and one brilliant point blank save. Timi Odusina who was very strong in central defence. Hutchinson, who has got real pace and took both his goals well. Josh Martin who is a beautifully balanced player, clever and skilful. Unfortunately the game ended on a bit of a sour note when in the very last play of the game a Villa player went down crying out in agony with what looked like a very nasty injury - hope he's okay.

Except it wasn't, was it @SwindonCanary. What was ratified last night was the Withdrawal Agreement, which will now become an international treaty on the 31st. It means the UK has agreed to give the EU everything they wanted in terms of cash, NI border and citizens rights. In return the EU has given the UK nothing. I am sure that even @Jools could agree with this analysis. What it does do is raise the uncertainty of Britains future after 31st December 2020. How our borders, in terms of people, goods and services, operate is unknown. What financial contribution the UK might make or not, for access to the Single Market and membership of various agencies is unknown. What EU rules/UK laws will operate in 2021 is unknown. What impact this will have on the UK economy is unknown. In summary the UK's future was not secured, all that was is that we will leave the EU. Something we knew in December.

Because it is absurd and some people happen to find absurd things funny. If you don't, fair enough, but do you really need to tell everyone? I generally find the occasional 'friday jokes' thread that pops up on here terminally unfunny but I don't feel I have to post and let them know.

Because in the context of a self funding club that it appears has to rinse its fans for every penny it can get with its away membership scheme it would be interesting to know if the directors are paying their own travel and expenses on match days in keeping with the “self funding” principle.

Something to celebrate🙌🎉 Thanks again Alex. I've been able to update the totals with your wonderful donation. It took us past £14,000 since we began and this years presentation pot to £2,243....

Big Vince out! For too long we’ve had to endure the painful and incontinent ramblings of the Suffolk Fascist. As a troll he’s never going to make the Premiership of trolling. The boy Vince has never invested properly in promoting his brand of trolling and his results leave a lot to be desired. For this reason the time has come to call time on Big Vince and to tell him that unless he mends his ways he’s going to be sent to bed with no tea. For those who are with me please bring your “Big Vince out” banners to the United match. This negativity cannot be allowed to continuously damage the enjoyment of genuine supporters or to demoralise club employees. If Big Vince is unwilling to take on a wealthy foreign backer we are going to have no choice but to take his X box away until such time as he can learn to behave like a proper fan.

In the case of Lewis, Godfrey, Aarons and Cantwell, their values will not peak for another year or two even. They're all still very young with so much potential and the idea of selling them in today's market for £30m would just smack of 'little club syndrome'. Whichever division we are in next year, they have all now proved that they can play at this level, so are no longer such a 'gamble' purchase. Surely, if clubs want them now, then they would need to come up with much more. As the club have said, we don't need to sell. Personally hope that we reject all approaches for the next two years. The idea of selling and loaning back (whether possible or not) would only serve to reduce the price tag! Buendia has to be worth well in excess of £50m already given his stats and must be due a call up to Argentina's side. 5 players worth £30 - £60m........ hope we don't sell any of them but how fans can be so critical of the club's plan and methods beggars belief.

Utter & complete tripe. The team you're suggesting would get slaughtered. Tettey is about 5,000,000% better as a DM than Tom. I can only imagine you've watched one game about 2 years ago when Tettey made a mistake. Otherwise I can't imagine in what way you 'watch' games in general. I suspect you've succumbed to the Useless Tettey mythology because he isn't ambitious, plays safety first & doesn't score many. Eden Hazard he isn't. There's no-one else at the club who can do the job as well as Alex. Nobody. Amadou is possibly the only one with the power, but his positional awareness is nowhere near. This really gets my goat. When BJ was at the club he was always getting the plaudits because of his 'swashbuckling style', usually consisting of charging into tackles & missing completely, or smashing the ball over the bar (in fairness he did score occasionally, & had a powerful header on him - he was actually better in a more attacking role). Time after time we'd get overrun down the left while Alex stopped everything down the right. But nobody noticed. Grrrr End of rant.

Approx two thirds of our goals have been conceded during set piece situations or crosses into the box. There are probably a few reasons for this - we're not the tallest/physical team, zonal marking and in-play tactics like not doing enough to cut out the crosses into the box. We have improved defensively this season and it has now become more about killing the game off with a second goal, instead of conceding too many. On a slightly different note, our most sought after players are wingers, full backs and Pukki. Godfrey aside, the core/spine of our team (Hanley, Zimbo, Trybull, Tettey, McLean) are probably upper Championship players.

I'm liking him more and more - just listened to him taking about a referendum on the future (or lack of it!) of the monarchy - brave and sensible, not common qualities amongst our MPs. Maybe in the next day or two he'll take aim at the fascists in the Government and security services, https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jan/10/xr-extinction-rebellion-listed-extremist-ideology-police-prevent-scheme-guidance Somebody needs to!!!

I think communication with his partners in the defence could be a problem - apparently they find him hard to understand.......

Pleasing to see that our U23s seem to be really finding some form of late on the back of course of the U18s doing well in the youth cup tie recently. I guess with so many of them being so young and a few being new its taken them a while to find their feet this season but they seem to be kicking on very strongly. I like the way Hutchinson seems to play on the shoulder of the last defender and appears composed when 1 on 1. Martin has obviously caught the eye as well. From what i've seen previously Hondermark looks like he's got the attributes to be a player as well.

Our two centre backs get overrun overrun on the oppo breaks and are clutching at straws due to formation primarily, which is why we’ve given away 14 leading points. In terms of quality Godfrey is in a different league to Hanley... Hanley is a mediocre championship player. If we play two at the back this week with Hanley in that two he will get schooled by Man Utd as they play fast break along the floor. Can Hanley mark a donkey with the ball in the air... yes (Wesley and Wickham). I can’t count how many back post headers we have conceded from sub 6ft wing backs not bossing the back post, so lets give that to one of the three cbs. The point of my response was that our cbs need better cover as do our wing backs... A back 5 in defence and 3-5 in attack is the way forward, without a doubt.... The 14 points thrown away are primarily down to tactics and secondly down to individual flaws/mistakes (which are laid bare less by better tactics). Godfrey is one of the best U21 centre backs in the world and definitely England, but yes he does need support and to improve his decision making.

Godfrey has all the raw talent and qualities of the very top centre backs which is why clubs are watching him. He’s no where near the finished article, but he must have played around 50 at most games at championship and above at centre back, he’s clearly still learning. I personally don’t think he has let us down at all considering the pressure our defence has been under, in fact some of his last ditch blocks to prevent goals have been fantastic. I personally think on raw potential Godfrey is one of the most valuable of the young talents we have, every big club is looking for ball playing CBs with his physical abilities, it’s just whether he ends up fulfilling that full potential.

I guess you either watch the games with your eyes closed or listen to the games on the radio. He has been bossed by almost every striker he has come up against this season, no where near good enough to move on to a top team yet and no surprise we are looking slightly better without him currently, performances have been much better as a team.

Yeah definitely. I'm utterly convinced by this simplistic argument that implies that it is not possible to work on more than one deal at once. Just because this one was easier to conclude than other deals that may be in the pipeline definitely means it was top priority... Great news is now this is concluded, Webber can finally start to look at other players, which he definitely hasn't been doing thus far as he is only capable of working on a solitary deal in a vacuum. Great post. 😐

RTB You were adamant that you did not want other countries making our laws, influencing our economy and way of life, and allowing anyone to come into the country. So you got your way and we are leaving the EU. Yet you think it is OK for the US to invade an area 6000 miles away and impose its beliefs, laws, economy and way of life. Make your mind up please. And whatever you say about Iran, it is their region.

Delia knows very well that Aarons, Cantwell, Pukki, Godfrey and possibly Lewis and Krul will all start pushing for a move as soon as relegation is confirmed. This just what Delia wants because she is going to get £100 million plus.

Do you know what? I have never seen Todd post anything that a 21 year old Duncan Forbes might not have posted, had he been born 50 years later than he was. Think about it. Hard to imagine, but people seen keen to misconstrue what Todd says by applying their own agenda. It is 2020. He is (virtually) a millennial. Times change. Ways of expression change. Todd is personally and socially aware and he is working his way to the top every day through blood, sweat and tears because there are no shortcuts. That's what brings success. It doesn't matter if you are Duncan Forbes or Todd Cantwell.
