I can listen at length to Jack Reeve as he generally displays a degree of humility, which is his greatest gift. But Chris Reeve is unwatchable as his self-satisfaction is nauseating and he seems to think that he knows what he is talking about. He really doesn't. He didn't pick up at all on where the weaknesses and mistakes were on Saturday.

What happened to “if we go down, so be it. We’ll have broken even, have some money to invest in the foundations of the club and be better placed for another run at promotion and the PL”? One season of success and suddenly it’s “why aren’t we Leicester?” after a few defeats to mid to lower table PREMIER LEAGUE clubs. Webber always said this was a long-term project and we are still over-achieving on that. Big picture guys!

There'd be no perks without the work. Can you imagine the hours they must have put in to get the club to where it is today? From a struggling team, £7m debt and a dilapidated South Stand to what we have today, without the major investment many fans yearn for. I reckon they've earned a few perks along the way and good for them.

I actually like our owners Nutty. I just come at it from a perspective that I am not that bothered whether I like the owners, I just want us to compete at the top level and take opportunities when they come along. If a new owner kept us in the premier league for 10 years I couldn't care less if they are a bit of an a**ehole although obviously I'd prefer it if they weren't and it would be a shame if they burnt bridges with the local community. If you look at the owners of most of the top flight clubs though they have not done that.

You are only allowed to have a squad of 25 players. You expect injuries but don't know where they will come. We have 3 central defenders with medium to long term injuries - are you suggesting that we should have gone into the season with six? We spent heavily on a reserve keeper are you suggesting that we should also have spent big on a 3rd choice keeper as well? It is not just that we have injuries, but the concentration of where we have them. If instead of 3 centre backs, we had 3 strikers injured would you have argued that we should have started the season with 4 or 5 strikers? Apart from the waste of money, packing a squad full of players that you do not expect to play damages the morale and dynamic of the squad. e.g. Having 5 premiership quality centre backs means that in normal circumstances, three are not getting a game and can become frustrated. It also means that you have less choice in other places as well.

Preston sitting in lofty third. Have to say I thought as he put more of a stamp on the team with his own signings they may struggle but theyve purchased pretty well recently and he seems to be doing a great job. Obviously doesnt mean his sacking here was wrong but I always quite liked him and he always speaks positively about us (we were the ones who took a punt on him to be fair) so I'm pleased to see him doing well.

I’m not going to preach ala Lakey, but we didn’t spend huge sums in the summer, but those who we did go after and didn’t sign weren’t exactly enamoured with coming here. As our learning from Naismith he never wanted to come here and we had to pay way over the odds for absolutely no improvement to our squad by adding him! We kept a very good talented set of youngsters only 8 games into their premiership experience and we’ve lost key players to injury. Even with a full squad it was always going to be a battle to avoid going down, we’re still in that battle. Unlike some on here the realists knew a top 10 was never going to happen and for the delude few who said anything is possible and we could finish higher than top 10, reality bites. Time to just accept, we don’t have to like it, as ambitious people shouldn’t be satisfied but push for better, but everyone really needs to acknowledge we’re a bottom six club at best and hope we can find enough points to finish above three other teams. Ranting about not spending won’t help now, the hope is that another Godfrey and Cantwell can step forward to take their chance, Idah & Famewo might be the next two! Off the back of a great season last year, we’re now financially more sound, we have filled the under 23 with lots more quality for the future, our training facility is far better now and the short term future is solid, be thankful and enjoy the season.

The risk is hugely overstated though. I know people will cite Bolton and Pompey but the fact is that clubs the size of ours just do not go out of business and that's assuming that whoever comes in spends recklessly and makes a complete mess of everything anyway. My answer to the question as to what would wealthier owners bring is that in all probability it gives you a better chance to compete and retain your place at the top table because they do enable you to maybe take a bit more of a risk and bring in that extra player because the owners are able to underwrite any debt or manage any cash flow shortage. Or as others have said they pay for the facilities so the club don't have to (either Colney or more pertinently a new stand perhaps). That's the edge that clubs like Bournemouth, Watford (yes I know I know), Wolves, Palace, Leicester, West Ham and Villa have. And if we had that, at a time when we have a fantastic coach and a good sporting director then perhaps we could really flourish during this spell, actually achieve something at the top level (dare I say it even a cup final or something) and not waste yet another opportunity by becoming the most relegated club from the premier league ever. It also comes at a time when the sc*m are at a low ebb and we have a real chance to leave them behind (both on and off the pitch) but if we are not careful we will find ourselves both back in the champ next season and again with not a great deal to show for promotion. In a way I accept this discussion is pointless because they are going nowhere and so we are just talking hypotheticals. We have to accept that our owners have chosen a path and hope that we continue to do it as well as we have for the last 18 months but it doesn't mean some of us don't think there are other paths and I do find the way so many fans have been brain washed into thinking that more wealthy owners (or backers) wouldn't want the club to do as well as it can or wouldn't care or would necessarily mean "doing a Fulham" quite bizarre. The owners have chosen this model out of necessity because they want to hold onto the club and can't afford to do anything else not because they think it provides the best chance of success for the club.

I’m sorry. Can you remind me what seat you fill in the executive suit again? Oh, that’s right, you don’t have one. Can you remind me how many NCFC shares you hold? Thought so. And one more, can you remind me again the list of investors you have lined up to plan an aggressive take over of NCFC? That’s right. Breathe. Breathe. Take deep breaths as you come to the realization that you have NO control or influence in this particular situation. So sit back down and let the grown-ups figure it out. If you struggle with this, I recommend approaching the owner of the company you work for and telling him or her that in order for the company to move up in the ranks of competitive business, they need to spend about 100,000,000 pounds that they don’t have. If they say no, ask them to leave. See how that goes. If someone could help me understand why the universe keeps creating these self-centered, sense of entitled idiots, I’d appreciate it.

This is still my favourite... On 31/07/2018 at 18:42, Big Vince said: It is generally accepted that the Canary Board were mightily impressed with that Huddersfield Town display at Carrow Road two years'' ago. Considering how Norwich were EPL the year before, how could they be played off the park with such high intensity by a club like Huddersfield? This was a fair question for the Board to ponder. However, having done their pondering they reached entirely the wrong conclusion. They concluded that it was a little known boy behind the scenes who was the inspiration behind Huddersfield. That boy, as we all know now, is the boy Webber. How wrong they were! The beauty of hindsight is that the Suffolk Socialists can once again be proved to be no good. It is obvious now that Huddersfield''s success has been due to the money put in by the boy Hoyte and the philosophy and methods of the boy Wagner. Webber did not pull off any masterstroke in finding Wagner. Going to Dortmund to hire your coaches is not the magic formula for success in football. Webber simply got lucky. Wagner''s methods and Farke''s methods are completely different. Where Wagner has worked, Farke has failed. But for some reason, that night under the lights at Carrow Road unleashed a chain of events that saw the end of the role of chief executive and the identification of Stuart Webber as the new Messiah who was going to wave all kinds of magic wands in a newly created role of sporting director. The Canary public and Archant bought into all the hype and so last season kicked off with the Webberlution as the latest buzz word. The misplaced feel-good factor quickly evaporated as we were served up some of the direst football in living memory. There were murmurings in some quarters that even Lol Morgan was better than Farke. Pre-season has shown that Farke has not changed his spots at all and we now go into another season employing the same methods as before, but somehow expecting a different outcome. Maybe Huddersfield knew something we didn''t, as surely they would have fought nail and tooth to keep this messianic figure that we fell for line, hook and stinker. Of course I would never in a million years expect this Board to learn any lessons, but for the record, they are: 1. Don''t make assumptions about other teams'' success. 2. It is not a foregone conclusion that Borussia Dortmund football club is littered with all the jewels for success in the Championship.

Surely the model is Ajax, they bring most of their Players through the youth system, plus wise experienced acquisitions, such as tadic. The CF for AZ alkmaar that held man u the other day was a ajax player on loan, Ajax consistently sell a couple of their top players every year yet still sit at the top of their ( admittedly weak) league and regularly qualify for European football ....sometimes they do well there too. Sure they are a bigger Club than us and attract more sponsorship, there again, we have prem/ championship tv money, but the principle remains the same, a top academy, a uniform playing style throughout the Club and a board that is totally focused on building all aspects of the Club.....in the long term. I am also mildly jealous of the Cruyff Arena, some atmosphere in there with its raking ,steep stands and when the roof is closed it's the loudest stadium I've ever been in.

Pretty damn good way to build on, future isn’t just a few seasons it’s the next twenty years, structure, foundations and financial security are key. If we go down there’s a very good chance of losing, Godfrey, Aarons, Lewis, Cantwell, who all might decide to jump ship to newly promoted or mid table premiership teams next summer, so it’s key to ensure our youth development moves forward with quality youngsters added each summer. Its never a guaranteed promotion for relegated premier teams, it’s normal for a season or two to readjust and build again. Webber is right the long term vision is to build an established premiership team, but you only have to look at league one to see three or four teams looking at the same long term vision, never mind championship teams. There’s only room for 20 in the top flight. As for this season, no way should anyone write it off, we do have a great young side with bags of potential, a few strong players back into the team and we suddenly look a lot more capable. As I said most of our squad hasn’t played Premiership so will need time to adapt, more expensive players in established sides take time to adjust, so good to look at this as a learning curve for the squad, manager and the clubs new structure. I like the fact we’re moving away from old journeymen looking to top up pensions and building the foundations on young players. Long may it continue!👍🍻

I treat staying up this season as an absolutely massive bonus. If we don't we're in a great position to challenge again to come back up. I still think we stand a very good chance of staying up but the injuries have made it a little more difficult this early in the season. However, our points tally isn't much different to what I thought we'd have at this stage of the season, they've just not necessarily come from the fixtures I thought they would!

This is a complete red herring. They’ve always held the shares jointly and the existing percentage is the consequence of their initial purchase, converting previous loans to equity and underwriting the share sales back in the early noughties

The ''majority shareholding" issue doesn't really bother me,and certainly didn't concern many once last season became the success it did. The total dedication of the "owners" then is a plus point along with their unrelenting dedication towards attempting to always do what is best for the club. The fact that this is aligned with the fact that they are not they are not the wealthiest owners on the scene is a minus and easily picked upon by their critics. Most of us seem to have accepted this though and the fact that it is mitigated against by the so-called "self-sustaining" model which has involved, most of all, by investment in the academy. This same academy has borne fruit and promises to continue to do so, and promises to get better Nobody can dispute that this needs time to bear fruit to achieve the full, despite the bounty it has already currently producing. Even though the prospect of a third one-season stay, out of four attempts, at the top table will be a massive, massive disappointment the liklihood of this seems to be facing us all sooner than expected and critics can readily blame lack of investment when required. There is some truth in this and, even though Stewart Webber made the decisions for the squad over the Summer and I recall expressed pleasure with the outcome of the dealings, the Delia/W-J stalkers have re-appeared in force. It's been a mixed start to the season but we are probably a couple of points less than satisfaction. That's not enormous and the injury situation has been unkind to us in buckets full to boot. Personally, I have seen enough in our play to be confident we can (when fully up and running) have sufficient to survive ... just. Another decent defender in the Winter window would be essential though. Like most, I have been a Deli "in" and a Delia "out" protagonist in equal portions over the last two decades as I reserve my right as a football team supporter to be fickle. Her "take it or leave it" mantra in the press regarding Tom's future involvement put my back up. Nothing personal, I just thought it against the best interests of the club considering all the other options available, including selling those/some of those shares to wealthier investors. We seem to have a top notch operator in Stewart Webber and it could well continue. It might not and McNally went from hero to villain in shortish time after all (as did Robert Chase incidentally in a somewhat different scenario.) The demand for a richer owner has predictably been resurrected as the shortcomings of our current approach have been exposed by some poor results. Delia's so-called nepotism is extreme though and invites counter-reaction with equal extremity. When this dignified (for the most part) elderly woman finally relinquishes her shareholding perhaps she might please more supporters by a more widespread approach to it's allocation. Wouldn't a third sold to 'wealth,' a third to the family and a third to Stewart Webber (and spouse)make good sense. Of course this is none of my business and I have no right whatsoever to even suggest to this successful lady how she eventually disposes of her assets. However, she always makes a lot of doing what is in the best interests of the club. As a supporter of many years the best interests of the club are allowed to be my concern also.

I was going to post a very similar thread to this - only focusing on another aspect of Krul's game - his distribution. It was noticeable at times yesterday that when we were trying to pass out from the back that our defenders didn't seem to have the confidence to pass back to McGovern, but instead always passed forward/sideways to another outfield player. This led to two of Villa's goals if my memory serves correctly. Krul has actually improved his long passing considerably in his time here (see his pass to Emi which set up our 2nd against Man City) and for understandable reasons McGovern wasn't able to do this yesterday.

Those "decent 5-8m" players are in short supply. This window we saw Adam Webster, Maupay and McBurnie all go for around £20m. None of them had played above the Championship before and were they any better than some of our squad?
  38. 1 point
Why do you set yourself up against the whole board and then expect a reasoned debate. We don't fall for the propaganda you claim we do. You're not some kind of great leader with all and sundry against him. We are not meekly content with anything. And I doubt we see the manager as a rabbit in the headlights. If you want a contribution - what about an opinion that the injuries have made a difference. An idea that perhaps playing Tettey and McLean gave us much more protection than Leitner and McLean. Not having 2 walking wounded in the back four might also have helped. I have a observation through reading your posts that you don't like the way we play. You didn't like it early last season and certainly not the season before. I think you tolerated it when we were winning because it would have been churlish not to.

The same people saying our model can't compete in the Premier League are the same people who were saying we'd never have a prayer of getting promoted from the Championship with our model, and that we were likely to be relegated to League One due to our lack of investment. Three weeks ago we beat the champions of England with ten players out injured. We've got four super-talented young British players in our squad who cost us £250k in total (Godfrey's fee to York). We're one point from safety with 30 matches to go, and a bunch of players to come back from injury. I only hope that Farke sticks to the principles that have got us to where we are, rather than having a crisis of confidence like Alex Neil did after we shipped six at Newcastle. As the song goes, "what a great team to support". And support them we must. OTBC.
  40. 1 point
Its all well and good shipping lots of goals (although not 5 at home to Villa) if your 'style of play' is still working at the other end. We're looking disjointed up there.... Stiepermann scuffing chances, loads of them, Pukki not getting a sniff anymore. We've only had one serious injury in that part of the pitch (Hernandez). I'd otherwise agree that shipping 2 to West Ham is fine, if we look like we're capable of a 2-2. Farke has started the same 4 players up top for every game this season. He does have Drmic, Srbeny and Roberts at his disposal, he hasn't been forced into that. Stiepermann has not been at the races, why wouldn't we try Roberts? Looked lively when he came on yesterday. Buendia is a natural number 10, I'm pretty sure if he had Stiepermann's 6 good chances yesterday he'd have had 1 or 2 goals. Not all criticisms are directly related to our current injury crisis. We had 21 shots yesterday, Villa had 22. We had 10 corners yesterday, Villa had 6. We had 58% possession yesterday, Villa had 42%. Of course we're struggling with the injury crisis at the back, but we're also looking woefully inadequate in the final third and our only plan B at the moment seems to be 5-10 minutes for Drmic and Roberts. 21 shots in a Premier League game is just astonishing, we all though we'd be restricted to a few chances a game at this level. Unfortunately if Stiepermann couldn't score yesterday then he simply isn't ever going to threaten the goal at this level, and we need to consider Roberts out wide and Buendia through the middle. How poor does Stiepermann need to be before Farke gives that a try?

I am really happy that we have Delia plus the other board members. I’m happy that we have our strategy as it is. If we’d spent 150m and had 10 players out it would have more or less been the same result. Despite decent possession and a reasonable number of shots not much came off for us. Thats football.
  42. 1 point
Whilst I don’t agree with the OP necessarily, I think had we spent more a little more in the summer, we probably would be sitting comfortably in mid table. It was a bit naive to hope we wouldn’t get injuries and that all the players would step up.
  43. 1 point
As others pointed it out, more than 20 teams in England have "rich owners", some richer than others, so unless our sugardaddy is a faritale prince from the Arabian Nights, we still might end up worse. Examples are aplenty for that. We have money to spend in January when we can bring in new players. If we stay up, further resources will be available, if not, we still can rely on the parachute moneys plus a strong Champs squad, with the possibility of adding players, so I'd rather be patient.

Funny thing is having billionaires as owners guarantees nothing, there are a number of lower league teams with big money backers, but the FFP in each division below the premiership means they have their hands tied in how much they can invest into the club......over invest and you will be liable to incur penalties without getting into the premiership.......more and more teams are now restricted in spending which makes life so much more competitive in the leagues under the premiership, which allows more teams like Sheffield United the chance of two promotions in three years.
  46. 1 point
It's actually laughable when people come on here at a bad time and all they can do is lambast the owners. Haven't you got anything original to say?? We have had the best year ever and we are still in the early stages of this season. Get lost if you really are that fickle, or if you are just Ipsh*t supprters on the troll......get a life.
