Last year was my first without a season ticket since 01/02. In my time I started in the family corner, moved to the upper Barclay (which was far and away my least favourite place to sit) and finally settled on the middle of the Jarrold. I always went with my Dad. Closest I ever came to canceling before I did was under Hughton- I was living in London and dragging myself to Norwich on the train every other weekend to watch us tamely get beaten was becoming a chore. If we'd have stayed up and not sacked him I think I would have chucked it then. In the end, I made the choice to let my season ticket go for a couple of reasons. Me and my wife were looking to start a family and justifying the expense and time out of the house was becoming more and more difficult. Also, my Dad was missing more and more games due to receiving treatment for cancer so we decided against renewing but planned to try and make it to a few home games a season. Unfortunately, he passed away before last season kicked off and I couldn't really face going to Carrow Road on my own for a while. We've just had our first child (so I'll blame lack of sleep if I've been a bit of a **** on here recently) so I'm unlikely to take up a season ticket again in the next few years but I'm looking forward to introducing him to all things Norwich City soon.

That's an interesting perspective, we got so many late winners because our players were exhausted....

I must have missed your tenure as England manager...

Dumping Root totally is throwing out the baby with the bathwater- he's still one of our best batsmen and one of the few capable of playing a proper test match innings when in form. He just shouldn't be captain.

At least when we were being humiliated in the 90s it was by an absolutely superb Australia side.

I think we should keep quiet about how nice we think Mr. Farke is. As far as the world knows, he's the hardest manager in the Prem, who smashed the most beer glasses on his head in his youth, and has qualities of a (tougher) Bond villain. I think we sould keep up this image and exchange stories of the lethal beam that he emanates from his right eye, his evil lab at Colney, and the special gizmos in his high tech raincoat to maintain the tough guy image.

Is Mr Farke quickly becoming one of our most successful/ popular managers of all time? I`m impressed with every interview he does, speaks so highly of our club and fans. I for one am thankful for such a nice guy leading our great club, we`re playing the best football i`ve seen home and away for many years, long may it continue.

How long have you had your season ticket? Or how long did you have it if you have since given it up? I’m sure this has been asked before but am interested to know the number of years/seasons people on here have had their season ticket. What kept you renewing? Were you ever tempted to cancel? If you have cancelled, why so? Whereabouts do you sit and have you moved around the ground? I’ve now been a ST holder for 10 years and have moved seats 4 times between the city and Barclay but love my current seat/view on the halfway line behind the away dugout. I love looking back and remembering/reliving what I’ve witnessed.. 4 promotions, 2 relegations, a season I thought wouldn’t be bettered for entertainment (10/11) until Mr Farke came along, wins against Man U, Arsenal, heavy losses to Man City, Liverpool, the 5-4 against Liverpool, the late winners against Millwall (the first time round, Lansbury), Bristol city, Bolton. The perfectly scripted Reading game including Holts revenge. Holty vs 1p5wich. Klose vs 1p5wich. THE Derby game, THE Millwall game, THE Forest comeback. THE Mario free kick. Promotion at Carrow rd. And of course, my first game as a ST holder, City 1 Colchester 7. Little did I know what the following 10 years would hold when I sat in a rapidly emptying Carrow rd on that sunny afternoon. Frustration, pain, excitement, anticipation, jubilation etc etc...but always entertainment and joy at watching my team. Here’s to the next 10 and more....

Probably the lowest standard game i've watched this season. Why is Richarleson there? was rooting for the Toffees but they werent at the races, creating half chances and not finishing any, Iwobe decent when he came on, unlucky not to score. Looked vunerable to counter attack. Villa ok but Slow with the ball i thought, Wesley is a unit but a bit ponderous touch not great but has presence to recover like Lukaku. Encouraging for us.

That's true Nuttyo but the system will be tightening over time and it wont be long before ID to back up the ST / match ticket will be required, not always checked as it would cause big delays. Similar system was Introduced here at gigs to stop Scalping ( touting) , the effect was that far fewer people were willing to buy scalped tickets as refusal at the door was much more likely. Once word gets round that its happening people are much less likely to spend on travel etc with a possibility of not getting in. Not good for me though as my mate Tillo has offered to lend me his ST for man u at home .

I read about RVW the other day. He hurt his head in a match and went for a scan and found a tumour on his brain. Lucky guy. Looking forward to the match tonight

This is very true, you can see that he definitely takes it to heart. NCFC thru and thru! He's pretty much guarenteed to start tomorrow. Maybe a good rendition of "You'll never beat the Hanley" after his first tackle of the game to help boost the confidence and we'll see an immaculate display... He's got it in him, just needs to cut out the little errors which at this level get punished.

Yeah i don't get why we MUST have scapegoats every season. We're in a position whereby GH is the best bet at CB alongside Godfrey for now. So, give the guy a chance! He'll improve as the season moves on. I don't think he was awful at all. It's pretty positive on this thread but there are a LOT of posts tearing Hanley a new one. If he does well in the side it may not be a guarantee that Klose or Zimbo come in. While I would like to see those guys back in action, if we're not losing games Hanley will stay in the side. We've seen that a fair bit with Farke. Having said all of that, Zimbo is clearly Farke's man and he will likely be wanting him to be involved sooner rather than later. I just think we should support the players regardless and Hanley was clearly distressed with both of his big 'mistakes' thus far.

This might be slightly controversial but I don't think the goal was actually all Hanleys fault, Hanley has the Japanese guy down the line, the ball works it's way across, whoever it was in our midfield who had Shelvey passed him on to Godfrey (who was the closest to Shelvey and facing play), Shelvey made the run in between Godfrey and Hanley, Hanley at the time was sideways on tracking the Japanese player and it was Godfrey who was better placed to see the run as Shelvey had gone across him. Hanley then turned as he was closest and almost fell over his own feet 🤦🏻‍♂️ but Godfrey could have stopped that play had he just gone with Shelvey as Lewis had the cover on the player near to Godfrey.

Don't you go getting jealous and upset now Bobbins....coz "Boys Don't Cry"...... 😞

It might be because Hanley doesn't bring much else to his game other than pure defending. Players like Jamal & Max have a much greater all round impact, so when Grant's defending is poor there's nothing left to be positive about.

Yep, classic modern polarisation , criticism of any form is a sin now, before i even mentioned any doubts about Hanley i qualified my opinions by stating that if he plays, i'll support him as i would all our players, but mention any shortcomings in a players ability and the holier than thou brigade are out to try to shut the discussion down, Often without really taking in the context in which said criticism is made. I then had to deal with LDC trying to convince me that DF works in a certain way and that's the law, only to find later once he had talked himself out onto a limb of certainty that he has reconsidered and maybe, just maybe DF is not quite so inflexible....something any reasonable person would surmise without too much difficulty. But hey ho , such is the nature of internet 'discussion' nowadays, despite most reasonable people being able to see GH was the poorest performer in an otherwise decent performance against a poor Newcastle side. Perspective. Perspective .Perspective.

I genuinely don't think Hanley is good enough. I hope I'm wrong. If he players every game, I'll support him and hope he does well, I just don't think he will. That is not an agenda. The only agenda that I would suggest most people on here have is hoping that we do as well as we possibly can in every game.

It is laughable and depressing how a section of our support seems intent on latching on to the mistakes of one player just to fit their agenda. Leitner (who had a superb game) gave the ball away which led to the great chance which Krafth blazed over the from six yards. Lewis (who had a superb game) put in a poor defensive header and then failed to stop the cross which led to JoeLinton's missed header. Nobody on this board has mentioned either of these mistakes - but since Hanley is this week's scapegoat there's been plenty of people highlighting his mistakes. (And Hanley had a very good game).

Strangely enough Nutty the new supporters that have appeared from the woodwork have not bought for this game allowing us who went to regular away games last year to go and see the reserves play. Guess though they will all be back for another game soon. So far for my £50 I have managed a ticket in the home areas at WHU and a ticket for Crawley, neither of which I would have had to pay the £50 for.

What you're actually saying is that Farke didn't pick the same team or substitutions as you would have made and if he had done we would have lost even fewer games and got more points. For the record there were times when DF didn't pick the same team as I would have done but I accept he knows a lot more about his players than I do and the league table show most emphatically that he knows exactly what he's doing. His record is real life while your opinion is nothing more than that.

Hi mate, lots of ex pat bars in Paris to choose from. The frog & percy pub at Bercy village is good. O'Briens Irish bar which is about ten mins from the tower is another option. Enjoy

"Team selection and use of substitutes was a weakness for Farke last season, ...." No more so than any other manager. Fans will always usually find something to disagree with any manger's selection at any club. It's about opinions and favourites and as far back as I can remember I have often been inclined to prefer a different starting eleven, no matter how slight a difference of opinion. What supporter in the land doesn't criticise a manager for making his substitutes too late in the game when their side is losing? It's habitual. ".... we got away with it playing against teams at that level. We wont get away with it playing against Premier League teams, it's a lesson Farke must learn." Tell us something we don't know already. We are now a fledgling Premier League team.It won't be a piece of cake. Sometimes he'll get it right, sometimes wrong... not unusual for any manger whatever the club, whatever the budget.

I agree with that. But the difference last season was that all 11 starting players made themselves un droppable. We won Saturday but the same can’t be said of Hanley. Even in Michael Baileys the athletic q&a he said if Klose were fit enough this Saturday he thinks Farke would be tempted to bring him in. As it stands he’s not fit enough to start. There is a massive difference between what we saw last season on that however many games unbeaten streak where every player was performing and the two games this season where Hanley has stood in but cost us goals against in each match. As for WD-40 post it’s not dropping a player if he is only there to cover a injured players position is it. The position is Zimmerman’s and I would imagine Hanley knows that We'll find out soon enough. 😎 OTBC

Hi Nuff Said, Thank you for so eloquently putting the whole discussion into perspective. Both camps have a point of view, but I certainly don't agree in this denigrating into a name calling / ridiculing exercise - if a poster has a different point of view to another poster, then they should be free to exercise their opinion without fear of insult. Now, what was the subject matter of this topic about......

Is ‘Hanley to be dropped’ the new ‘we need a defensive midfielder’?

Bill Hill go 25/1 for Bolton. I did a quid. If I win our DS boys and girls will get £26 and I'd have the biggest smile

Whilst I strongly believe Hanley is the weak link in the team at the moment and should be dropped as soon as either of the other two are remotely close to being fit. The corner goal was in no way Hanleys fault. If it's anyone's fault it's the coaching team for telling Lewis to mark him. It's not like Sunday league where you decide who you're going to mark at each set piece, they will have been drilled exactly where to stand and who to pick up. In conclusion. I think Hanley isn't good enough to play first team games in the Premier League, but, it is wildly unfair to blame him for that goal.
  41. 1 point
Aarons and Lewis were each at fault for a Liverpool goal - didn't see them getting criticised too much. Hanley hasn't played for 9 months and he will improve with game time. This time last year we were crying because he was injured. When Farke says that we win as a team and we lose as a team I think he also means that we support as a team.

Its only how YOU THINK he operates, no one would be as stupid to have a thought process that is so limiting. Its not a black /white, on/off matter. Actually, in this case it is fairly black and white. It's a fairly easy man management policy to understand - to keep all players in the squad on board, you don't drop a player when the team is doing well. It means they all know exactly where they stand and there will be no - or very few exceptions to that general rule. The ones that can't get back in the team (even if they think or are perecived as "better" players) understand why, the players that are in the team know that if the team does well they will keep their places. It's exactly how things went last season and there can be no complaints because the team is doing well and they know it won't be changed as long as that is the case. We are almost bound to see more changes this season because we will may lose more matches (not many, hopefully) but the general man management principle of promoting good incentive by rewarding players in a winning team (and a drawing one if last season's team selections are anything to go by) is bound to cointinue. Farke has said time and time again he trusts all his players - it is part of his incentivising the whole squad. He may think such and such is a better player, but he would not risk de-incentivising other players by dropping them after a good team performance.
  49. 1 point
Never said he was in form. It is Hanley's shirt to lose because the alternatives are not fit, and when they are,Farke will have a decision to make, if he's playing well he'll stay in, why wouldn't he? No one has suggested that he's made two man of the match displays, you're making stuff up.

Even if we go on a bad losing run, get relegated and struggle next season (I don't think any of those will happen), this man deserves us to stick by him. The style, the entertainment, the we he talks (win lose or draw), his bravery to stick to his philosophy and his attitude is everything I want associated with our club. He has become my favourite ever manager (or player).
