I'm seeing too many people on here getting nervous and worried about next season......THERE IS NO NEED! Ok, I know I'm clueless about football, I know I talk alot of guff (sometimes) but sometimes you just have to say.....COME ON!!!!! Stop mithering about the Premier blessed league and embrace the challenge. Enjoy it for goodness sakes, that was the message last season.....ENJOY IT! The challenge is there to be relsihed not to be timid and think we are just a little club in the east of England and how on earth are we going to compete against the mighty PL clubs.... What's the worst that can happen anyway? We could get relegated again....and that is what the pundits expect (and want) so it would be no surprise to anyone......so why the need for being worried? Are we desperate to stay up.....or is it a fantastic opportunity to have a free hit at the PL....even if we got relegated the club has a fantastic set up now for getting back up again. So if anyone out there is worried.....DON'T WORRY!!! BE HAPPY!! Pep talk over.

Leitner's an interesting one. Pretty sure that before his injury he was statistically one of the very top players in the Championship and I seem to remember Farke commenting that he was breaking records in terms of distances run per game. I also think that other than the dodgy start, our defensive stats were better with Leitner in the team? The stereotype of a DM is tall, strong and athletic, but you look at the likes of Kante and Gueye it can be more about constant running and closing down and catching players by surprise with your tenacity. Leitner has the class- if he's prepared to really bust a gut every game he could surprise people.

While I agree that many of the current squad can step up, I feel there are some glaring weaknesses and new players need to be brought in. It is incredibly hard to sell the idea of coming to Norwich and being a reserve to good, young players. Especially as many of those players will be offered the chance to be first choice at other clubs, whether in England or abroad. With Krovionvic and Kittel we have seen two players reject Norwich to go to second tier clubs - due to promises of football. Ultimately, if Norwich want to improve to squad, it will mean demoting some of the title winner team to the bench. It would be a crying shame for Norwich to waste this opportunity in the Prem. If Norwich go down next season it will be goodbye to Aarons, Godfrey, Lewis and Buendia. I’d rather upset a few players and give Norwich the best chance of survival than keep every one happy and then lose some of the best young players Norwich have seen for many years. I’m not advocating tearing the whole team up, but Norwich should be looking to get in the best players possible, regardless of who they might displace.

Indeed. Tena Lady has never once been on my shopping list. Neither for that matter has Tena for Men but in recent years the latter has become an increasingly attractive proposition....🙂

'Virtue signaling' is a phrase for those devoid of conscience and compassion to belittle people who genuinely care. See also 'snowflake'.

That much is true. Again, never before have I seen the club holistically prepare for the future - it's great

The assumption that all our players will seemlessly step up is naive in my opinion. Ryan Sessengon was one of the hottest prospects in English football last season but had a difficult first season in a team that got relegated. It is entirely to be expected that young players may take some time to adapt or that one or two of Trybull, Zimmerman, Leitner and Pukki struggles to make the step up. We need greater competition in our first XI.

We live in a democracy and over the years democratic governments have deregulated the gambling industry to where it is today. So whilst I understand people taking a personal stand because of their own morals it's wrong to expect others or our club to do so. The people who make these decisions at our club are charged with competing with others within the boundaries of what's legal in our democratic country. Some of the stuff I've read on social media questioning if we area community club because of this seems plain daft to me. There's a lot goes on in the world that is legal and against my morals but all I can do is make a personal stand or lobby politicians to make changes to the law.

If the fee is only somewhere around £300k - £600k then it’s a bit of a bargain to be honest. He’s a quality player and would have been good back up for Buendia and challenging Stiepermann. I presume he’s going to WBA as they have promised him a more prominent role in the first team. Norwich didn’t have anyone who could ably deputise for either last season and were luckily that neither had long term injuries. Norwich failed to win a game that Buendia didn’t play. Someone will be needed in those positions and a cheap loan of a talented guy like Krovinovic would have been a very good solution.

I'd imagine the reason is because the big manufacturers would only give us stock strips (as they have with ip****) and their yellow and green stock kits look crap. The errea kits are good quality and we get fully bespoke designs, we will be one of only a few teams in the prem that don't just have a rebadged stock strip...

How is it a poor comparison?? Theyre both addictions. They’re both done for pleasure (other than for making money for bookies). They have both ruined lives. No comparison is perfect but as addictions go, they bear a lot of similarities. The main point of my post was to show the impact of regulation. Whilst never eradicating these issues completely, there’s clear evidence that a lot of help can be given to reduce those that are and will become affected.

If the £3m figure mooted on here is accurate it would only cost each season ticket holder £140 each and then we could sponsor our own shirts, leave them blank, print “Fresh Air” on them or whatever and the club wouldn’t miss out on the revenue. Everyone up for it?
  22. 1 point
Generally speaking, the clubs that could afford to take a moral stand with their shirt sponsor are also those whose wealth typically comes from extremely unsavoury sources. Given that Delia's money comes from savoury sauces, and the financial limits the club operates on, I don't think that refusing a record breaking sponsorship deal with a gambling firm to be in the club's best interests.

    Disgraceful, should have been Peroni.
  24. 1 point
I’m struggling to think of a possible shirt sponsor that could afford to have its name on a PL shirt that wouldn’t offend someone, somewhere’s morals? Their money is as good as any to take. As pointed out by another poster on here, it wasn’t that far back we were sponsored by Fosters, were there these opinions back then?

Isn't this (a bit) hypocritical, coming from the guy who was insufferable for the last six games of last season, telling people off for celebrating prematurely ?

Why not go the whole hog, and on the latest shirt's club crest, embroider 'CASINO CANARY' across the castle front, have the lion swigging a pint - and then adapt the canary standing on a bitcoin with its wing pulling the arm down on a one armed bandit.......Unique.....and so very, very, NOW!..... ......Oh and 'GAMBLING IS GREAT' stitched on the back of the new shirt collar.....

I'm not trying to dampen his enthusiasm, I'm just confused. A couple of weeks ago we were all being terribly negative for suggesting we'd be in a relegation battle this season and that low expectation would transfer to the players, now it's a free hit and it doesn't matter if we go down. I don't get the change.
  29. 1 point
I for one Indy would certainly buy one. Why cannot the club give the supporters this option? I would be willing to pay a bit extra - the club could then make a great PR stunt by saying that they will donate the extra money raised by these shirt sales to an organisation educating people about the dangers of gambling and supporting those that are in recovery from it.

I’ve been following Norwich long enough now to know that you have to enjoy each season for what it is. You may go into the season feeling pessimistic or optimistic and maybe it works out that way, maybe it doesn’t. It’s like going to the theatre to see a “who done it” - you’ve kind of got ideas as the play goes along but you’re never really sure what’s going to happen until the end. That’s all part of the entertainment. For what it’s worth I agree with Lakey, I think we will do ok. But whatever happens it’s going to be a hell of a ride 😀

I don't understand how you square this with your earlier talk of us being capable of finishing 4th and being disappointed if we finished bottom half?
  32. 1 point
It does not have to be like that. It is all about mindset and if we want to carry on dominating matches, we will have to expect to do that and not think we'll have to set up differently. Last season we were set up - particularly in the first half of the season - to keep the ball more and minimize the ability of attacking sides......but there were plenty of times throughout the season where we had to defend a large amount of times....often going behind too...but we had the ability and know how to get goals. So imo, the team knows how to attack, it knows how to defend and it knows how to keep the ball....in short we have the systems in place to carry on as we did last season. Yes, it will be harder, of course it will - and we will have to be better at things than last season - but it doesn't require a change in attitude or sitting deep and countering or whatever. There will be times where we will have to be resilient, but there were last season too, so in that way it will be no different. We have nothing to lose - we can go for it.
  33. 1 point
The thing is, staying up will give us the best chance of keeping continuity and developing the team over a number of years. If we go down I'll be shocked if we can keep any of Aarons, Godfrey and Buendia so we've then got to replace them. The premise of the club is building from the youth side of things...and that is of paramount importance to the progress of the club. Yes, obviously it would be nice to keep the three you mention, but even if we stay up, the likelihood is that they would go to a bigger club because they had prioved they could do it at the top level. So it doesn't matter...players will come and go whatever division we are in...and if players go elswhere we will have more young players coming throught to take their place. Don't forget the club is set up as a fantastic place for young players to come to - and because of that we can attract the best....those that see their chances of career development being enhanced by being at Norwich rather than some big club where they would have less chance of getting to the first team. The future is bright because of that, regardless of being in the PL or the championship.

If Leitner is our back 4's protection I'll be seriously concerned.
  35. 1 point
Re the DM... We've sort of forgotten about Leitner, who was playing in a deeper lying role and really made it his own. People were saying he was the best midfielder in the Championship before the injury. He isn't as tough in the tackle as someone like Trybull, but plays well there and has the ability to nick the ball away from attacking players and set us on a counter. While I agree we need a double hard b***ard in that position, a midfield enforcer if you will, I am not overly concerned. McLean can play deeper too and has done it well for Scotland recently. I still think we'll sign a CDM and need it, just reminding y'all about Leitner. Who, judging by his IG vids of off season training, is in absolutely magnificent shape for this coming season

Virtue signalling getting out of hand on this thread. If people are concerned with the moral issue then don't buy a shirt.
  37. 1 point
Quite. I keep reading how gambling ruins lives and undoubtedly it does and will continue to do so. The regulation is tightening though which will make it more difficult for people to get in so deep. All kinds of things connected to big business ruins lives though and to which degree do we take our moral obligation as a football club? The petrol engine has been bad for the environment, pollution has increased the number of young asthma sufferers and can be a life limiting illness. We should perhaps get rid of the car park. Especially as ease of access to motorised transport means children exercise less as they don’t walk anywhere, this in turn contributes to obesity and subsequently heart disease, diabetes...ruining lives. Large sports manufacturers have appalling history of sweatshop use and of children working for a pittance to produce their goods. Undoubtedly, that ruins lives. We should ensure thorough background checks on all players boots, match balls etc Junk food ruins lives. We should stop selling pies, sausage rolls, chips, hot dogs etc As for alcohol. Well, we know. Best knock that on the head too. Yes, I know I’m being flippant but as Nutty points out, none of it is illegal and in each case we’re doing as others do to maximise revenue. We’ll sell car park permits, crap food and sweets, booze, mass produced replica sportswear and have a gambling company as a sponsor. In fact, I’d be VERY surprised if there was a company out there that would be willing or able to offer us a sponsorship deal on this level that somebody, somewhere wouldn’t find morally reprehensible. Whether that be through the product itself, the industry, tax avoidance, labour or any multitude of other reasons. All we we can do is act as we see fit and be responsible for our own moral compass. If you feel that strongly about Dafabet; don’t buy a shirt and most definitely don’t have a bet. Personally, it simply doesn’t bother me in the slightest. 🤷‍♂️

I agree to an extent with you. Yes they deserve it, but we will soon see early in the season who will be able to make the step up. Krul has now had one season, one full competitive season under his belt but looked shaky a lot, but grew with confidence throughout the season. With the likes of Aguero bearing down on him, I think he going to be prone to be making errors again and costing us points. I would like to see a new No.1 or someone challenging him for the jersey. You say that our defence is full of experience, but none of them have ever played premiership football, albeit some of them now have international experience which will help with the everyday pressures. The same with the majority of our Midfield. Whilst I agree our current players should be given the opportunity we really need more quality throughout the whole squad.
  39. 1 point
I'm hoping it will be pretty much the same because imo they are all capable of stepping up and tyhey deserve it. Krul has the experience and a full competitive season behind him, the defence is full of talent and experience. Midfield we are packed with quality and wide and up front we have good options. With the new players to add competition for places, the team will develop as the season progresses , but at least to start with, a familiar looking team would be very welcome.

I'd suggest you are, ol matey! Remember last season? Most of our signings came completely out of left field, we weren't even linked through the media with a lot of them. As I said in a post a bit further up there, we definitely do need extra players in some areas. I think an attacking AM/Winger, CDM, RB and perhaps another striker (although there are rumours of Rhodes coming back). I think Drmic can play out wide though, or behind the striker so we might see him utilised in that way. But, no, I wouldn't panic! We'll see some interesting developments I am sure. Also, as was said elsewhere, I can't remember a time when we went up to the Prem playing with such a style and with such great young players. They will need help, sure, but I'm thinking that the team will look pretty similar to what it did last season to start with! Just some additions to the squad and maybe one or two new guaranteed starters.

That isn't always the case, though. Man City finished top of the Premier League in each of the last two seasons, but you can make a case for other managers doing better jobs based on the fact that they have fewer resources and lower expectations. This isn't the case with Farke and Wilder though: I'd say they started off the season on a similar footing. Ultimately you could make a case for either of them being manager of the year as the jobs they did were both equally fantastic.
  46. 1 point
Don't know why people get so wound up about this, smacks of little old Norwich wanting a pat on the back from the media. We know what Farke has achieved and if either him or Wilder or both keep their respective teams up next season they will have really achieved something outstanding. To be fair to Wilder he has moved the club he supports up two leagues after a period of dormancy. You have to a acknowledge this is both a good story and a significant achievement.

I don’t agree with this at all. A young British manager who started in a lower league, had a decent (if not particularly special) season and is being given a shot at a bigger club. A club which he also happens to know extremely well, a chairman he knows well, a youth set up he and his assistant know extremely well. A club which, with a potential transfer embargo might need to rely on that youth academy. I’d rather they gave Lampard a go than just bring in another tired old name.
