I think if, after what Webber and Farke have achieved so far, you start to have 'doubts' on the 21st June, dare I suggest, DCB, you might not have what it takes to get through a prem season..

I suspect that there's a gem in the pipeline ..... it could be one of the few mentioned earlier in this thread, as they seem to come to prominence in the blink of an eyelid and then disappear from the headlines just as rapidly. Mbaye Diagne from Turkey seemed a good fit, for example, but not at £17m. Webber seems determined to stick to his principles and if he does eventually give way in some shape or form I suspect it won't be by much. I played through his latest interview yesterday and agreed with everything he said. It was like treacle coming from his mouth and going straight on to my toast. I'm inclined to think that, should we fail next season, my support will remain much more rigid than it has at times in the past when our excursions into the elite have disappointed due to the lack of real clarity of direction ... from the belated acquisition of Dean Ashton, through the absurd timing of the removal of Hughton and onto the apparent panic buys of Alex Neil. McNally called relegation a "fate worse than death." These words will likely never come from Stuart Webber's mouth as he clearly has a strict , sensible and realistic plan of action which seems equipped for any eventuality.

Smells of an agent wanting Celtic to come back with a better offer. This is not the kind of player we want, if he wants to play in a mickey mouse league where he can win a medal every season because they only have 2 or 3 tough games a year then he's not the kind of player we want or need. Come here because your want to, of course negotiate yourself a good wage but any player/agent who wants to use us to get the move he wants is not for me.

I don't think Webber will be fazed by the lack of additions so far. He's gone on record saying if we go down, so be it, we will not risk the future of the Club and if we can't get the right players in, we should go with what we've got and I, for one agree with him.

It's a shame that we've missed out on an (allegedly) exciting talent, but considering we were spending £3m on a player for a position we're pretty well covered in I'm not that disappointed. However, criticising the lad for lacking ambition or being motivated by money is harsh in the extreme. OK, the SPL is a dreadful league nowadays, but Celtic are still a big club and by far the strongest side in the country, so you can understand the attraction for any young Scottish player. He can win trophies, stay where he's settled, develop as a footballer, play in front of 50,000 every other week and then maybe move to a bigger club in two or three years, similar to van Dijk, Wanyama, Dembele etc. Like I said, it's a shame he chose Celtic over us, but I don't blame the kid at all for doing it.

Glad to see Webber took immediate notice of my complaint and dumped the move for the boringly-named David Turnbull. It is no coincidence we are now being linked with the at least semi-exotic Filip Krovinovic. Seems I spoke too soon. Too very plain names incoming in Aidan Fitzpatrick and Archie Mair, and the very unmemorable Drmic.

Today's masterpiece on TWTD refers to the Turnbull business as City being" rejected by a pub league player." I think it's called desperation and it might even be labelled as the musings of the intellectually bereft, but an obvious case of shooting one's self in the foot it clearly is. Perhaps he needs reminding that his own team are playing in League One next season. Perhaps he hasn't twigged that the £3m+ we were apparently prepared to pay for a 17 years old prospect probably equals his own club's total transfer budget for the next few seasons. I realise that this forum is not always the brains trust and that there are probably more schoolboys on TWTD than there ever will be on the PinkUn but the daily nonsense that is spouted continues to make compelling reading due to the levelof sheer stupidity and until that is we have some real transfer activity to get our teeth into. It is often said that if you put one hundred monkeys in a room with a hundred typewriters that they would eventually come up with the complete works of Shakespeare. On the evidence of the above quoted posting it would seem that if you put a hundred binners in a room with a hundred keyboards they would struggle to come up with the complete works of Katy Price.

It’s June. Most deals aren’t done until July. Think the only player announced this time last season was Buendia - and that deal had been completed in January so was ready and waiting. Seems like Norwich aren’t planning on doing lots of deals, so was also unlikely much would happen in June. Might see some stuff on 30 June, as that is when contracts end. Still a couple of weeks until training beginnings - so signing players now means paying their wages for the last couple of weeks of holiday.

A visible stop-clock should be introduced alongside VAR. It seems to work well in Rugby Union, and it would clarify to managers, players and fans alike exactly what time is left towards the end of a game. VAR will introduce ridiculous amounts of minutes after the ‘90’ which no doubt will add unnecessary controversy.

Worth bearing in mind that Webber’s role includes liaising closely with clubs and agents. Building relationships within football is a key part of that and - as powerful agents often have multiple clients or certain clubs play, develop or coach a similar or complimentary way - it is not beyond the realms of possibility that our participation in the Turnbull theatre was part of such a process (ensuring maximum value and conditions for the player/agent/Motherwell). Takers must also sometimes be givers. Parma

How the bloody hell is Aidy Boothroyd in charge of arguably the most talented crop of youngsters we've had in our history? He acheived sod all as a club manager, and hardly has a pedigree for playing Southgate-style passing fooball. Surely we need someone with experience of playing great football at a high level, whether as a player, manager or ideally both? Time for a change, I think.

Got the season dvd today, when told to expect it at time of ordering – can only think others were told to expect it earlier and have been disappointed because of big demand as well as production problems others have mentioned. Got the 17/18 review at same time, fiver in the shop sale, so, with my wife away, I’ll be settling down with a curry and a few cans tonight to follow the growth of the dream LDC did you see Crawley are at Carlisle August 3, 3pm? Hopefully a chance to see how George Francomb's going on and to take a look at Mason Bloomfield in his loan side.

If this is indeed the case the club should scrap the scheme and refund the supporters as it offers no better odds of securing a ticket as bog standard general sale. I've admitted before I jumped straight into this and bought two away memberships without really thinking. Given the complicated system and short time in which to react, the club clearly benefitted from some ill judgment from supporters. Yes they didn't force me to part with £100, but it was the type of hard sell tactic you'd expect from a unscrupulous capitalist organisation, and not the community minded, fan focused club we had begun to believe in. They don't need to resort to rip off tactics, they'll get our money one way or another, so long as there is value to the purchase (which doesn't necessarily mean in exchange for a commodity). So f not a refund, I expect to see something for that investment and the membership scheme scrapped, or enhanced in someway. Sadly, I can't see it though. Which does indeed put a blotch on all the good work the club has done in the last year or two to re-engage the fans.

I doubt we'll see refunds/changes this season but the consultation may lead to changes next season.

Perhaps with myself setting down the important parameters for our transfer dealings and with just one letter from LDC singlehandedly forcing a backtrack on ticketing policy the penny will finally drop that Webber et al are just window-dressing figureheads and that real power is exercised by a shadowy cabal of pink 'un posters.

Asking if we can improve what we have and get in what we need to survive - with a frugal budget- is not pant wetting but a fair question. Can one operate sanely in an insane market? As has been stated it is very easy to waste extraordinary money on bang ordinary players...but it is just as easy to aim a little too low and miss survival for the sake of one or two decent signings it is indeed a tightrope with pitfalls either side. I am all for a cautious and sensible approach but not for being so very cautious that we look the gift horse of promotion in the mouth and don’t make a decent attempt to stay up.

Remember when we used to leave all our business until the very end of the window, and then we'd get gazumped by Wigan for David Cotterill and everyone would say the sky was falling? We're doing alright at the moment, I reckon.

It was only a matter of time that the term "pant-wetting" would be introduced and served up to each person that was asking questions about possible signings...and giving even a slight impression that he or she wants a good signing to be made sooner rather than later...

    Mark Fotheringham... aaaaaargh!!!!!!
  39. 1 point
Certainly not disappointed by this. It looks to me that he thought he would get much more money coming to a PL club and found out that we were not going to give him much more than Celtic would have done. Then there would be the obvious thing that he would not be guaranteed a place in the team - whereas at Celtic he has much more chance of making an impact. It just shows how difficult it can be to get a player over the line......so he's not coming to a PL club and also one of the best clubs for player development in the country.....it's his loss.
  40. 1 point
Agree with all the above. I guess my concern boils down to a simple question- can we really improve on what we have without disrupting the frugal wage structure and budget the club wishes to impose? To be fair to Webber - he amazed us all last season with some very canny signings. But the prem is not the champs - and he is untested at this level. Hence the creeping doubts... I too think we need 3 or 4 players who are genuine improvements on what we have. And I just don’t see how we can get that on the cheap.
  41. 1 point
It's a man's world out there and Webber is not going to change the policy on wages/salary for one player. If money is the issue with Todd, then so be it. I rather suspect that Turnbull was not probably offered the kind of money he thought he should get either, hence his going back to Celtic. We are not a big money PL team amd if players can't handle that, then they should move on. We will of course be paying relatively good wages, but if players want more than the club is willing to pay, then that is fair enough and they should look elsewhere.

Can you explain why? Like I say it’s gibberish to me.

The point system is a great loyalty piece and it certainly gave a huge advantage to season ticket holders or those that can travel to games slot to increase their total. I think the scheme offers to increase the beloved following by giving others an opportunity. Those that maybe have moved to the area or are young and want to watch NCFC, a live football game and to stop the flow of Norfolk Man U fans as they are on the telly. I have lived away in Leeds and London and managed plenty of away games but wish I could see more games and if by paying for a new membership system it gave me that opportunity and I knew I would find the club a little more. I understand those that already invest a lot in a season ticket and I would if I could get the time to do all the games. Those that buy tickets as a family certainly now have an additional cost. But I do think growing our fan base is also important, so any scheme that allows that is to be commended but it also has to be fair. So as said glad the club are willing to hold a new conversation but I do think it is right to try and stretch the old system.

If its got him (and his agent) and bigger transfer fee and wage out of Celtic off the back of drumming up interest from other clubs, I'd say they've handled it quite well?
  46. 1 point
He could have had the opportunity to play in one of the most competitive leagues in the world, or could win every week in the best team in Scotland. It may have been too soon for him, he may not want to move from his home, he may have realised that playing against some of the worlds greatest was something he is not ready for. I want players who want to be at the club proud to wear the shirt, are talented, but also have to right attitude.

Seriously, don't be disappointed-- We're not in the Seventies and Scottish players are the kiss of death these days -- We've already got two who can't make their dreadful national team and you'll struggle to find a Premier League squad with two Scots in it. Be honest, you know both Hanley & McLean will play little to no part in the coming season.
