Having watched previous tournaments I'd say the standard has improved considerably. England looked very comfortable on the ball yesterday and some of the combination play down the right was excellent. It is a bit pointless comparing to the men's game as it'll never be the same- I just enjoy it on its own merits.

Don't understand why people are so eager to run down women's football. As soon as the subject comes up, someone has to point out that it's not as good as the men's game, or make hilarious comments about players' appearance /sexuality etc. Obviously it's a minority sport at the moment, and doesn't attract the interest the men's game does, but plenty enjoy playing and watching it. If you don't, fine, but why so keen to do it down? It doesn't stop you watching men's football.

Would VAR have over ruled that pillock Simon Hooper with Jerome’s overhead goal ? Still bugs me after all this time, could have changed our whole season

God these threads are so ball achingly predictable. Call me crazy but I think if a woman has trained and worked all her life to get to the top of their profession then they should be discussed on those merits rather than whether a bunch of pervy 60 year olds from Norfolk find them attractive. Apologies if this is too PC for you. Maybe start your own raging perverts thread and leave those who actually have an interest in the football to discuss it in peace.

What a load of **** you post at times This is ia thread about the womans world cup, and if you cannot see the sheer stupidity of your guff " "is it really wrong to see a woman sexually first and what job she does second?" then your ignorance is worse than I had previously thought would you approach a female doctor, nurse, teacher, politician ....etc with that mind set ? perhaps as you sound like a frustrated old perv like Til you probably do

so in the various threads about our players over the course of the season how many times have people said 'yeah i bet you're gonna carry on watching norwich while vrancic is playing' with a picture of him in his shorts? this is virtually the only thread about womens football and it didn't even get a page of replies before someone implied that it's worth watching because one of the pundits is fit?

I am an enthusiast for the use of this, always have been, always will be. If the technology is there, use it. In a scenario where the gulf between success and failure is so massive the accuracy of decision making is vital and transcends human fallibility, especially in those split second moments and with a game riddled with cheating and the need to edge that slightest of advantages. It's track record is proven in other sports. When Dominic Reeve firmly answered the traditionalists in the cricketing world, who were against it's use on the grounds of time wasting and delay, by saying that it was 'part of the occasion' he was correctly referring to the use of big screens and the added fun of total spectator involvement, to say nothing of the ability of the crowd to glean an exact insight into the finer points of decision making within the game. Technology has enhanced the spectator experience in cricket, and you could easily claim the same for Rugby Union and other sports. Why then is it proving to be such a disaster in football in as much as it's use and benefit in the game is being constantly questioned and criticised? It seems to be creating more problems than it solves, that's for sure. Should there be a margin of error (as in cricket) whereby the original decision stands if the line is so fine whereby the "thickness of a sheet of paper" decision against Lingard's recent goal should have remained with the on-field official. Should the official in the stand become officials? Does VAR need time to settle in or should a serious re-think of basic matters by the powers that be be necessary. Apparently the spectators will now be privy to the whole process by means of the screen. This should improve things. At the end of the day the use of technology in a game has two aims. To reduce inaccuracies of decision making and to enhance the spectator experience. Fairness and fun. In top level football it, thus far, seems to be falling a little short on both counts??

I've no idea how it came about but to my mind it's clear, get the new City stand built, take us up to 30/32,000 and take this opportunity to grow the Club. With the paupers down the road struggling to attract anything, we're primed to dominate the region there's so much potential between here and London.

Whatever we paid for him it was worth it. The most exciting talent I can remember seeing in a Norwich shirt.

VAR is terrible for football. Great for the TV and their viewers but it just seems to be draining the life out of football as I love it. Ask yourself which moments of last season did you enjoy most, was it's the equaliser v forest, the equaliser then winner v Millwall, Vrancic v sheff wed? Imagine them with VAR, would you still celebrate to wildly knowing VAR could find a reason to disallow it? Yes I want wins, i want promotions, I want to trophies but they are just the rewards of success, I go to football to experience that moment of ecstasy that only football gives u, which you can't compare to any other sport, any other thing. If VAR takes away that "moment" I'm not sure it's worth it.

Talking of the difference in quality, I wonder if people think back to the technical level of the 70s in the men's game, do they think it was as high as it is now? There may have been some exceptionally gifted players-Best, Cruyff, etc-but also a lot of players of lesser ability. Male footballers have developed through better coaching at all levels, and more attention to detail in every aspect of the game-tactics, diet, discipline etc As has already been pointed out earlier, the quality in the women's game is improving and will continue to improve. Will it ever be the same as men's football? I very much doubt it-but enjoy it for what it is.

Exactly. Better than I could have summarised it. Unfortunately I think there's a few on this thread still stuck in the 60s or 70s.

Brentford wouldn't be a bad move for Cantwell, assuming they'd be interested of course.

I'm sure VAR will come to be a good thing as the technology (and its application) improves. I think a lot of the criticism stems from the generally low level of punditry and commentary in football, especially when compared to cricket. It seems to me that we are bombarded with the opinions of ex players who often struggle to understand the modern game at the best of times - a bit like trying to talk to your grandad about the internet. It wouldn't be much of a technological stretch to be able to give the linesman an immediate binary indication of whether a player is offside or not which could trigger as soon as they touch the ball following a forward pass. Just a few more cameras and some carefully programmed algorithms and you would be able to track every part of every player on the pitch in real time. That is the ideal scenario. Until then, surely it is better to correct mistakes where possible, even at the expense of losing a bit of the flow of a game? Lingard was offside. It was frustrating because it was tight, but it was the correct decision. The Swis penalty was also correct. It is changing the game, but in a good way in my opinion.

No statistics from me here chaps, just facts Alexander, one of many candidates for the class A drug takers contest to become leader of the UK, said ' I am the only guy that can put Farrage back into his box' On follows a hard won Peterborough by-election and Alexander's party comes in third. Now he's pedalling furiously, doing 28 in a 20mile zone, just to catch a new slogan. He has not found one, it is Labour alone who can put thes3e crack pots back into their box. So now Alexander B. de Peffel Johnson comes up with this excellent ancient Tory policy of , yawn, tax cuts to the few that are about to elect him as a leader. Tax cuts are not a policy but a bribe to members of his own party, the work of a man bereft of ideas.

It seems to be heading towards a situation where you can't really celebrate a goal when it goes in, which is about the best thing in football.

I'm sceptical, the idea that it's supposed to be foolproof worries me. There's obviously a Big Club bias in football, the media know it, the smaller Clubs know it but don't have the power to challenge it more importantly, the paying public know it, which is why so many 'support' a Big Club in front of their TV. Ultimately, it's killing football and unless VAR solves those problems we're one step closer to the end of our game. I'll wait until the first contentious decision which affects us before we're all giving up on VAR looking for the next solution which will, hopefully be incorruptible.

By rights Todd Cantwell should become a City stalwart for a long time to come, local lad, academy product, obvious talent, good head, well handled and now with a decent grounding in the game at a fairly high level. That he is not considered ready for the lofty heights of the Premier League just yet is emphasised by the general feeling, on this forum at least, that Farke was perhaps amiss to play him ahead of both Leitner and Vrancic when Buendia was banned. The finer points of positioning supported the manager, but he nevertheless relented and Cantwell was dropped. If then TC, a talent for sure who has done well is not seen as quite ready for top-level Championship football on a consistent basis then, unless he metamorphosises into a Georgie Best over the Summer, he sure as hell has fires is not ready for the Premier League. It would be a massive pity should he be lost to the club though. A season on loan at a decent Championship club might well bring him on that extra bit so that, if we survive, he will have a role the season after this one. If we fail he will surely have major role to play in our next Championship campaign. This all is, of course, the view of the idealist and before the influence of money, agents and, dare I say, young men getting ahead of themselves takes over

Don't really see anything wrong with showing this - she is a beautiful footballer - and this is a photo she has posed for - no one made her do it. Seems like men complaining on behalf of women for the sake of it. I wonder if a woman put a picture on here of Mario Vrancic posing in just his shorts, would other women stand up and complain?

That’s really demeaning to the women’s game. They’re professional footballers just like their male counterparts.

Would anybody care to put a value on Norwich City’s squad at the beginning of last season compared to the value now? I would expect the percentage increase to be one of the biggest in Championship -> PL history.
  38. 1 point
Agree hogesar. I have not seen such balance, strength, poise, tenacity and ability in a Norwich player for many years. Maddison had unbelievable technical talent and vision but I believe Buendia is a player with very high level across more areas.

Lots of very interesting posts here. Society in this country was killed by the Thatcher Government. It has never recovered and probably never will. I've travelled extensively over the last few years and other countries in Europe just aren't like the UK. People still care about where they live. Coming back to the UK is quite depressing. It is a sh*thole compared to the rest of Europe. At the very least we could stop throwing rubbish in the street.

Surely someone on here kniws the details of his contract, there seemed to be a lot of people in the know about Maddison's contract?
