It is significant because 39 people died, not because we didn't get to go to Europe and not because people want to do some petty point scoring with Liverpool.

The last occasion I encountered Roy was at the Club’s AGM last November. Upon receiving the microphone to ask his question, a member of the top table, I didn’t catch who, said, “it’s lovely to see you, Roy.” The room burst into a spontaneous heartfelt round of applause, which genuinely touched Roy. Clearly a man close to the hearts and minds around the Club who will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Roy.

Congratulations to Teemu Pukki who has just captured the PFA player of the season award - getting over 44% of the votes.🥇

Ah, yes, Big Vince. One of our many disappeared posters, but the only one tasteless and stupid enough to think a thread devoted to remembering Roy Blower, a much-loved and genuine Norwich City fan through thick and thin, is the appropriate place to indulge in yet another this-is-all-about-me piece of ego-driven self-promotion.

The thought that you have made this post admitting it is not perfect and may contain errors and is open to discussion shows there is a first time for everything. 😂😜😊

Very happy with this one assuming it goes through... Really good player, seems to fit the 'young and talented but not quite fulfilled his potential thus far' mould that Farke is proving so adept at getting the most out of, presumably he's been scouted and found to fit in with the squad ethos and mentality; and with him coming to the end of his contract next season the potential is there for a permanent deal (Presumably he'd only be made permanent if we are still in the Premier League next season, and if that's the case then we'll have significantly more money available to us in a second season, so compensation payments wouldn't be an issue). Brilliant signing to start off the summer with, let's get it over the line!

Yes, but that that can be cultivated to a certain extent. Many wouldn’t have said Buendia’s attitude or personality was great before he was at Norwich. Kieran Scott talked a bit about him ‘throwing his arms up in air when substituted’, but it was far worse than that. Buendia was involved in a coupe of minor scandals while in Spain. He videoed and posted on instagram a team mate saying ‘he sh*ts on Cultural (the club they played for) wh*res’. Then not long after that he was caught spitting at an opposition player. If Norwich were linked to him this summer and fans saw those reports I suspect a lot would be saying ‘goes against everything Norwich are trying to build’ etc. Buendia’s raw potential outweighed his potential attitude issues and Norwich did the deal. I imagine the club will continue to take this pragmatic approach this summer.

A couple of hours ago i received a telephone call to tell me that Roy passed away yesterday morning surrounded by his family. In recent years he had been suffering from Parkinsons which had taken a great toll on him physically and confined him to a wheelchair. Those older supporters amongst us will know that his love for Norwich City had commenced in the 1950's and Roy was involved in the blanket collection of 1957 which helped save the club. Roy was a friend of everyone who came into contact with him and his stories concerning Norwich City over the decades were endless and he served this city as both Lord Mayor and councillor. Roy was a good friend and i will miss him greatly. When i know further details i will pass them on but there is little doubt Archant will run a feature on his life in the coming days.

Don’t know anything concrete. Might not be that much as Man City reportedly see Norwich a good place for Roberts to develop. One season at Norwich turned Angus Gunn into a £10m+ keeper after all. If Man City are keen for him to come to Norwich they might charge only a very small fee.

All Lambert's little speeches, which he likes delivering on a regular basis, are so predictable in as much as he spouts the obvious, with his mind seemingly unable to come up with anything remotely original. It doesn't really matter because it's only football and the binners eagerly lap it all up in any case. Hardly inspirational stuff though. They say Churchill "rolled his own," but clearly Lambert is no Churchill and the ensuing L.1. battle is hardly a World War, but may be PL should take a leaf out of Winnie's book: "We will fight them on the touchlines," being an appropriate place to start it would seem. Or recalling the last ditch win against a demoralised Leeds side as being the club's "finest hour." The home draw on derby day: "Never on the field of footballing combat has so much been owed by so many to so few." To a man they would surely swoon in awe down in deepest Suffolk when listening to that.

Very sad news indeed. Roy was Norwich through and through and loved the club and the fine city of Norwich. Not only was he a great City fan, but he was also a thoroughly decent bloke. I first met him in the late 1980s during the anti ID campaign and this carried on in to the 1990s with the Chase Out campaign and the work of the Anglian Football Supporters Association and the Norwich City Independent Supporters Association. Roy was at the heart of all of these campaigns. It was heart rending to see the effect of Parkinson's Disease on Roy, but so appropriate that in his last year supporting Norwich City he saw us win the Championship and promotion to the Premier League. RIP Roy and thanks for posting the sad news TIL 1010.

"Our first target is to get back to the Championship,” Paul told the Club website." His first target should be to win more than 5 games and avoid relegation. ⭐🤭😂 Apples

Agree with this. The behaviour of certain supporters from some teams in those days was an utter disgrace and people suffered terribly at a number of locations. Being a young supporter from the era, it was evident the innocent were going to suffer. As a result, being a non violent fanbase, we missed out and it was a real shame also for us and our club. It is right to remember these dates and those that suffered. It is wrong to jump feet first, when offered the slightest chance, on what is only a poorly worded comment.

Swindon's only crime was being particularly clumsy in his posting to the point where he seemed uncaring, but in these days of "seek and you will find" political correctness it seems necessary to immediately jump on his back and vilify the man. I'm sure that he is no less aware of the tragedy that unfolded and has no less concern for the bereaved than the next person.

It is absolutely relevant on a Norwich site that that night led to us being excluded from European football. I was horrified by the deaths and disgusted with Liverpool fans behaviour. I have not liked the club since. Please stop being so keen to be offended.

I think Swindon's point for this thread is Norwich City FC being deprived of participating in Europe due to the Hysel Ban. The ban came about due to violence by Liverpool fans that resulted in 39 Juventus fans being killed. It's a disaster when people are killed as a result of the actions of others. Liverpool fans have been involved with two such disasters. Not all Liverpool fans are to blame but Liverpool fans were charged with manslaughter. I doubt anyone is unaware of the tragedy, but that's not what this thread is about. We (Norwich) have only qualified for Europe once after the ban. What's your love affair for Liverpool ? Why don't you tell me what's so great about Liverpool getting us banned from playing in Europe.

I absolutely despise Liverpool. Will actively support anyone they play against (in big games, finals etc, don't care week to week). To be fair to them though, they have over recent years made the club more accountable for what happened that night. There is now a memorial plaque at Anfield, and the club commemorate the anniversary every year, and the fans will openly accept that they caused it. They'll never be able to change what happened that day, but I do give them credit for at least owning what happened, although I do think there is room to go further (eg an official apology) - for example - they have a permanent page on their official website dedicated to Heysel however it gives no detail, and could be a little bit more clear than "39 supporters lost their lives". Over everything though, that's the key fact... 39 people lost their lives, and that should never be forgotten. It screwed our club, but to be honest, that's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Think a bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss with your original post Swindon. https://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2013/05/what-about-justice-for-heysel/ https://www.liverpoolfc.com/heysel

Abraham and Grealish are both huge talents and I expect both with be Champions’ League players in a few years. The fact Villa struggled under Steve Bruce says a lot about his management really. That squad was always too good for the league. They will have to spend a lot though just to keep it on a par with Mings, Abraham and El Ghazi all on loan.

Today commemorates the day of the Hysel Stadium disaster, which Liverpool tend to 'sweep under the carpet'. It's significant for Norwich, as they were denied the chance to play in Europe even though they qualified twice.

"It really isn't that hard..." So that's the beginning and end of the point you wish to make then? Swindon, your clumsy, nay callous posting has earned you the wrath of the snowflake brigade it seems.
