I think it shows what can be achieved when people form around the world, from different nationalities, races and religions, unite. Maybe I'm just a dreamer......

You're really not going to get any joy from next season, find another hobby.

How close do you have to live to be classed as home grown? A Scottish/Welsh/NI player? Northern England? East Anglia? Norfolk? Norwich? Carrow Road? None of it really means much, it’s just people who come from different places. Some people from Holland, Belgium, France live close to Norwich than people from Northern or South West England! Seeing the passion of the players playing in the yellow & green means far more than a place of birth.

No joy in watching Buendia play? Really. Really!Really!! Thats the most moronic thing i've ever heard.

I'd only watch this if all the singers were English. Preferably born within the walls of our fine City.....

If your OP had said that your were concerned that in English football that not enough English/home grown lads are coming through, or are getting game time, or are being left behind, I think most would have agreed with you. As it is I agree with Daz and others in thinking it's a bit iffy.

But you’re not the only one 😀

Don't understand this mentality at all. Maybe you should consider changing your username to "Still living in 1890". Sheff Utd also spent more money than we did for the record. Were you also crying when Efan Ekoku was scoring goals in Europe for us?

Eurovision is basically a reminder that the rest of Europe hates us 😉

The first ever time I got a players name and number on a city shirt, it was Darren Eadie. I remember him breaking onto the scene and watching in absolute joy at this somewhat diminutive winger (later a striker at times), that would seemingly have given Road Runner a tough challenge in a foot race, look like not only an outstanding young talent but potentially England's answer to the left-side dilemma they'd struggled with for too long. I was absolutely gutted when he got sold to Leicester, much more so than when we sold Sutton for a record fee, and truthfully, even more gutted when I saw he'd had to retire due to his ongoing knee problems. It's really hard to truly explain to younger generations of fans the speed and potential Eadie actually had. He may not have had the pure foot skills/dribbling of a Huckerby or Ronaldo, he may not have had the pure finishing of a world class striker, but there was something exhilarating in watching him play at times, and sadly YouTube footage of Eadie during his 17 goal season in 96/97 is seemingly nowhere to be found either. What's he's done since then in being open and upfront about the mental health issues he's struggled with for so long, is critically underappreciated, and the fact that like many people suffering from depression, anxiety, panic attacks and similar issues, he's put on a brave face, tried to remain professional, all the while being friendly and honest with fans gives him great credit. I certainly hope that he continues to be able to deal with his issues and that he remains a beacon to not just fans, but others in the sport and in truth in ANY field, in addressing the often horrible reality that mental health problems pose in even simple day to day life, and keeps spreading the message that it's not just ok, but often ESSENTIAL to ask for help, from both friends and professionals regardless of who you are or what you do. All the best Darren.

I spoke to a senior player at the End of Season dinner. The player said this. Nelson is THE most skilful striker he has ever played or trained with. Given the experience of the player in question I was amazed. Has it all , pace, strength , two good feet and so on. Also said that Nelson is a great bloke , popular and to quote the player "has a heart of gold and will help anyone" . Farke doesn't dislike him and when he is here , he trains well. BUT There is something that just means he cannot stay focused. NO doesn't keep a shape, doesn't adapt to a change in tactics and doesn't take information on board. It has happened to him everywhere he goes, and for reasons unknown he just doesn't make a good team player. This is why Farke lost interest in him. The reaction at Fulham was all part of the issue, and had been bubbling for a while. It was the same message that we heard when he signed for us. Looks very unlikely he will ever play for us again . It's well known that he uses the same Portuguese agency that is involved in Wolves (and Ronaldo) so will be actively looking again this year I imagine. Whether Reading will come up with a deal is unknown , but I would imagine that wages are an issue.

So after all the hand wringing and teeth gnashing wondering if Buendia's self-inflicted absence would cost us big time it turns out that we would have achieved promotion with the win over QPR not needing another point. Thanks to Leeds wonderful implosion, more spectacular than normal even for them, the 84 points we had at that stage would have seen us squeak into 2nd place. Football, eh ?

I would think that clubs would be queueing up to play us-of the 8 sides that we played at the start of the season, 4 have been promoted already-Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Paderborn & Luton-while Charlton are in the League One play-off final and Union Berlin are in a play-off with Stuttgart to get promoted to the Bundesliga. That could leave Crawley Town-19th in League Two-and Wolfsburg, who are already in the Bundesliga, as the two teams we played in pre-season who have not been promoted this season.

If it is someone we have never heard of how do we know if this potential signing is likely ?

I don't do wind up posts, if some want to take my posts that way that's their decision. Fuzzar, better things to do with my life, hence fewer than 40 times. Yes Surfer, some are morons. Luckily, norwichcity.myfootballwriter where I sometimes post, doesn't suffer from morons, fortunately only a minority here COYB!

I can guarantee you're right about that HIWEM! I can't handle anything that employs 'Death Growling' or similar to convey lyrics, it just hurts both my ears and my sensibilities and offers zero musicality to me. It's kind of tricky when you work alongside someone in a truck all day and they thoroughly enjoy that sort of thing as well! 'Classic' screaming such as Ian Gillan from DP is no problem (Child in Time is just amazing), but the more modern sound which appears to be someone strangling a bear just doesn't cut it for me tbh.

What's wrong with foreign players? - whats worrying you? What's your stance on Scottish, Welsh and Irish players? Aren't our young players all English? Lewis, Godfrey, Aaron's and Cantwell. How many English players are required?
  22. 1 point
Quite - we spent little compared to most, and it is easy to cherry-pick transfers here and there vs Blades; but they spent more on 2 players in Egan and Norwood than we spent in the entire close-season. Lumping our loan signing of Rhodes in doesn’t make too much sense - I don’t suppose the keeper cost them nothing, nor their other loans like a Hogan. Ultimately both us and Sheff U showed that you don’t need to spend your way out of the division.

We’ve not been playing Premier League football against Premier League teams though. I think Manchester City will pose a bigger threat than Rotherham 😂 Gordon Bennett 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

An honest admission OP, but there's little logic behind it: We support Norwich, most of us because we live/lived nearby, a few exile fans because of family, and even fewer overseas fans because of seeing us on TV, etc. If our allegiance is to 'Norwich City' and only us, then why draw the line at feeling disenfranchised with players from outside of the UK, Grant Holt was from Cumbria, heck, even Todd is from Dereham - an interloper! Perhaps we should only have players who were born within NR1 postcode? I'm being a tad facetious here, but I've noticed the lack of logic in supporting your "local football team" for a long time, and it's one of the few completely illogical things I'll let myself do without reprimand. So, in short, it's all a load of rubbish, and nationalism is even more so - taking pride because of someone else's achievements because they were born on the same lump of rock as you. PS - not intended as an attack, just a discussion. PPS - Meant to add, am aware could be troll, in which case, I rate it 5/7 - perfect score.

But we sold 32 million pounds worth of player so isn’t our net spend a lot less given player sales and investment?

It would be wonderful to see a successful City team comprising only Norfolk born players. As this is not going to happen I can't see what difference it makes where outside of Norfolk our players hail from. Aarons, Lewis and Godfrey are not Norfolk born so why is it more acceptable to you for them to play for us as they are England born rather than Pukki, Krul, Vrancic and the others who have done us proud this season?

We always get this and it is a fundamentally flawed argument in as much as it only concerns it's self only with the now and the immediate future. With a full, sold out ground every week and with a cap on season ticket sales it is hard for potential and younger supporters to get to see a live game. These are the likely attendees of the future, those extra heads that have the bug enough to fill seats when the club's fortunes eventually dip. Notwithstanding that the argument minimises current income from seat and other sales ( a mere £9m after all) it therefore also disregards the importance of creating a more solid fan base for times ahead. The main stand pales into the stupid compared to the other parts of the ground by the fact that it is of League One appearance. For sure, attendance numbers are far from the most important sauce of income at a Premier League club, but City's esteem as a club that exists at this level, and on a regular if short lived basis, is reduced by the sight of it on the television screens if nothing else. An extra five thousand on the gate is imperative to my way of thinking, the problem with creating this does not lie in the fact that it will not be financially viable at this moment in time but in the logistics involved by the complicated problems that will need addressing during the construction period. A few seasons in the Premier League and I foresee the matter of crowd expansion becoming more and more pertinent. It must always be on the drawing board even if not for the now, as this would mean 'doing an Ipswich,' but for the long term. Additionally, we are a "one city club" which is an advantage that needs exploiting via the "shrine" that is Carrow Road. A reported 50,000 people attended the open top bus celebrations, trade for local businesses flourished as never before, club/community relationships were at a peak. Need there be any better indication of the interest in the club and the need to transplant this to the stadium on a regular and future basis? Think small and you get small.

I didn't watch the Final and I won't be hunting around for the highlights. What a complete waste of time, I, like others remember when Cup Final day was an event. Wall to wall coverage was the norm yet, as others have said, I didn't know the game was on until yesterday. Nobody wins from this, Watford, football, the sponsors or the fans who couldn't get a ticket. Well done to the Corporates, you've taken our game and ruined it.

A celebration of camp mediocrity. I haven't watched it for about 50 years (Puppet On A String?). A waste of everyone's time.

The great divide is between the top 2 and the rest..... Chelsea (without Hazard), Arsenal when away, Spurs without an injured Kane (or at Wembley), and Man Utd pretty much home or away, have all gone backwards and are in no way to be feared. The best time to play Liverpool and Man City will be close to the Champions League games, but of course there will be no guarantee of that.
  36. 1 point
Agree, on looking at the PL a bit more recently since we looked like we might get promoted, there is nothing there to get fearful about. Watford stood off Man City after a while and got punished for it - exactly what happened to teams against us when they couldn't maintain their work rate/desire. I don't go along with the hype about the PL or even the top six of the PL. If we can reproduce the way we have played this season, we will cause every team in the league problems, including the top six.
  37. 1 point
However those games are usually played at the lower league clubs grounds, as in part, a way to support those clubs financially - so I cannot see how playing the paupers in Germany would help. Perhaps instead we could consider sending a City A squad down to poorman road to help raise a few quid for them. We could take the Championship trophy with us, that might add a few more on the gate, as most will not have seen a real trophy in decades

Good post GPB, I think NO has been our most talented striker for a few years but something isn’t right with him-the player you spoke to has nailed it. I would love it if he sorted himself out and made a contribution for us in the Premiership but it’s not likely to happen. I fear it’s going to be difficult to persuade someone to take him off our hands though-we’ve been trying for long enough 😳

This. As was evident this year, Farke unites the dressing room so that everyone feels part of the team. The way he praised the bench warmers, Pinto, Hanley, Rhodes etc. for their behind the scenes work showed this and he definitely doesn't want one bad apple around, even if they can be good. Man United is a perfect example of what happens when you have talented, but disruptive influencers in the team. Get rid, cash in.

Would be worth it just for the reaction on WACCOE. And we could then do a Becchio and not use him to wind them up further.

If they don't want to come here then they are ultimately not players we want here according to the criteria that has been mentioned, and I'm happy with that.

Anyone watching ? We haven’t won it since 97 but Michael Rice is confident in bringing it home tonight .
