If the cap fits! Why would anyone expect us to blow a load of cash, we will continue with the model that has served us so well since Webber and Farke arrived. Its going to be great fun on here when all the Billy big bollox fans who are expecting us to "push the boat out" and spend "loads ah money" realise the reality.

Every time I come here, I have a sneaking hope that an admin might have 'accidentally' deleted the Brexit thread...

There’s no way they know our exact budget for the premier league. Just guess work. As long as we sign players who really want to be here, that buys into our ideas, I’m happy. No mercenaries thank you.

Totally disagree. This team is playing at a high level. Very similar to Lambert’s team in terms of momentum. We spent 13mill on 5 players when we went up under him and finished 12th. We’re ahead of schedule on the long term plan. I don’t want hordes of new players in disrupting the spirit and flow we have in this team. Webber’s recruitment is meticulous, he finds value and quality. As the DM article points out, he paid a combined 1.5mill for pukki and emi, I’m sure most of us would have said never in a million years could 1.5mill buy 37 goals and 20 assists. Secure the club with promotion and sensible spending, and then we might have some cash to put another tier on the stand etc if we stay up. Spending money is not the right path for this squad, precise well planned signings that fit our mould are. Webber has the Midas touch in that regard, trust him, he’s earned it.

I've just been on the Royal Engineers message board and there's spat growing on there between them, Wanderers and Old Etonians. Apparently Wanderers are the bigger club because they won more FA Cups. But Old Etonians are claiming to be more relevant because their win was most recent and had the biggest crowd - 1882 & 6500.

Thanks for letting us all know what degree of accuracy you feel your sanctimonious fappery achieves. It's like constantly getting a half-hearted telling off from a limp-wristed teacher no one likes. Via Skype.

Me. I did City to be promoted, Ipswich to be relegated double at 25/1. I only put a tenner on though

This season, the pitch at carrow road has been graced by some amazing footballers. Keep all your chavvy feet off the hallowed turf. If any of us were worthy of getting on to the pitch, we'd have a squad number.

I've had various bets on Betfair for a while now, but been trading out of my positions as I have gone along - guarantee the profit. I had us winning at 120:1 but sold out at the end of September for 44/46:1. Before the Wednesday game I bought into Leeds for a fiver (4.3:1) and Sheff United for £3 (25:1). I've sold out Sheff U a bit to guarantee a profit if we win (£6 profit on initial stake of £4), but stand to make £31 if the blades get it. To be fair, I don't want the Blades to get it, but I can see us having to get something out of Villa on the final day if we want the title. Which I am not hopeful of. Put £6 on us for top 6 at 5.3 mid august, and sold out at 1.26 at the beginning of December, taking home £17 in the process. Backed Pukki for top scorer, £5 at 16.5:1 at the end of September, and have progressively sold out of that to pick up £5 profit. Backed us for promotion, £5 at 7.8 at 30 September, and sold out at 2.18 at the beginning of December. to guarantee £12.5 profit. I fully expected the post Christmas slump but I sold out too quickly on us winning. If I'd have waited for the beginning of December, I would have got odds of 5:1 to sell out, and made £100 easily. My problem is that I've been a Norwich fan for too long. I've seen far too many strong starts and far too many post Christmas collapses. I bet to sell out of them when I've made enough profit to make it worthwhile, not to win the bet. Sadly, I sold out of the draw against Wednesday - £5@4.6:1, sold out @2.9:1, and placed at 8:1 for a Norwich win. Would have made £24 if we had won, or £18 if I'd have held to for the draw, so ended up basically flat on that bet. But never mind. No money lost. And no, I'm not a binner. I'm just not a gambler. I'm a trader. I pick bets that I think are more likely than the market believes, and trade out when the market catches up. Hence doing Betfair Exchange rather than a traditional bookies. It helps that my day job requires me to understand derivatives trading (which is essentially what Betfair Exchange is).

Can I just point out to all the pantwetters that in recent weeks we have used a starting 11 comprising of 4 academy products, 4 free transfers and 3 players who cost about £4million combined. We're top of the league. Trust Webber.

Often had disagreements with my Arsenal supporting bro, who always says Norwich lack ambition, simply because we dont chuck shedloads of money into the club to get further than we ever have done. But i try to explain that of course we just dont have rich owners who can do that, besides, i for one think our model is just fine, our club is the best. It depends how one defines ambition, but in this day and age, doing it the City way is almost unique, especially time and again getting into the Prem without ever having rich owners splashing millions without a care. What a season its been, summed up best by getting a guy in on a free transfer and scoring 28 goals, best in the division and 3rd highest for a season in our history. Thats ambition at its finest and its worked all over the park and on the sidelines to. Immense.

I wonder who'll be first to bump the FQ thread..? 🤫 Or we could have a game of 'Randomly-named rising young thing/someone we admire in the championship/out-of-contract PL journeyman who could still do a job for us' thread bingo. 🤣 I'll start. Harry Wilson Neil Maupay Peter Crouch
  20. 3 points
Good. I’d be absolutely gutted for these players if they weren’t given a shot at the PL. Take the money and go with the talent and team spirit that we have. We only need to add a small amount into the squad, we would have done that had we stayed down
  21. 3 points
There's a sort of paranoid narcissism running through these threads, as if all the other teams only care about us. Then again, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you .......

Has to be this for me, although there are many. Completely sums up our ‘never say die’ attitude, and even though we never won this particular match, it was a game that exemplified what we have been all about. Remarkable, Jeff!

Think you've hit the nail on the head Indy on the defence front - we've got unbelievably young and inexperienced guys in place, and it's no surprise they've shipped a few. I think they've improved over the season and see no reason why they won't continue at a higher level.

...and to add to your list of "The only thing that you can reasonably say is that promotion to the Premier League benefits the income of Norwich City, and potentially Norwich City and its - perhaps increased number of full time and part time - employees spend a portion of that increased income locally" 1 The huge increase in salaries of all playing and non playing staff...and their continued and increased spending for at least a year. The increase in visitors, friends and family all staying and spending. More new players with their increased spending, new houses etc. 2. Away fans. More of them. Spending more. Staying in hotels, air b and b, pubs and restuarants. 3. The bump to all sales at Carrow Rd and the bump to all suppliers (local) and their expenditure and increased labour. 4. You may not believe this but people and businessmen, especially from abroad, and more so the far east go crazy for the Premier League. 5. Press and media increase and relevant expenditure in the local area. 6. Advertising. the mere increase in mentions globally and on social media....it makes a difference. I could go on but you get the drift. Economics innit :-)

Let’s be honest, keeping Lewis, Buendia, Aarons, Godfrey and Pukki would be like spending over 100 million! Imagine what the outlay would be on these players if you wanted to buy them from Championship clubs? Keep hearing the Idah although young is rather good for his age, knowing Farke, he’ll be brought through this summer. So 20 odd million plus any additional money from sales of fringe players I can’t see us being too far away. Certainly don’t think we’ll find it as easy as we did first season under Lambert, but if we could stay up, a premiership season under the youngsters belts will only see them develop into better players. It’s about keeping and building on the gems we have, not spending millions on the Naismith’s or Jarvis’s of this world......hungry players, please.

I think we'll be looking at low cost players from abroad desperate to prove themselves at a higher level - this has basically been our policy so far and I don't see it changing too much. Obviously we want the squad to be competitive, but more important is that we look at this promotion season as another step in the development of the club as a whole. As for there being a big step up to the Prem; of course there is. But realistically we only need to finish outside the bottom three for the season to be a huge success, and I think the majority of the current squad have earned the right to have a go at it.
  37. 2 points
£20m per player surely. Still not huge, but more realistic

I am happy with this to be honest. I don't think we should be spending lots on unknown talents or on players who get relegated with their current teams. Look at Fulham for example they spent 100 million and look where that got them. These players got us there and deserve a crack there. I would like 3/4 additions for me it would be another striker to help out pukki, suitable back up for Buendia as really have missed him when out. Another CDM to play tryball role and a another CB. Got that would be more then happy.

I still think he's our best centre half to be honest. I'd give him a deal if the figures are right. I suspect next season's starting eleven will be heavily based on pre-season rather than who was first in line this season.

An interesting article with quite a lot of specifics. My guess is that SW has put it out there, to let other clubs know that we'll be operating on a very tight budget next season, and they can't assume Norwich will have plenty of money to spent following promotion (assuming that happens - I won't keep repeating but this whole post is assuming we get promoted which isn't yet guaranteed). Key points for me are that it says our current wage bill is "just north" of £20m. To me that implies somewhere between 20-25m. Obviously Naismith's contract is finished at the end of the season and some others, so they'll be off the books. It mentions that some contracts will double on promotion, which is consistent with the other recent report, but also says there's scope to improve the contracts for some of our young stars on top of that, which is just good sense. The £20m per other comments reads to me as the budget for next season to bring in players, i.e. transfer fees plus first season wages. Which to me is a clear signal that SW is continuing to look for value so outside England or players who're out of contract etc. This also ties in with SW's interview recently, that the plan is to go with the current squad, strengthen selectively and take it cautiously. The numbers above to me mean we won't be spending the full amount we get from TV in the Prem. Which I am very happy with. If we stay up, we can push on a bit, if we go back down we have a war chest plus parachute payments.

Is that the amazing story of plucky Bournemouth?

It really does get better every time you look. He was the furthest forward player, right on the edge of the six yard box and ended up the furthest player back! Astonishing drive, commitment and desire.

I would, relatively speaking, break the bank to sign Daniel James. I think he would do very well indeed, but even if we were prepared to push the boat out for us, I am not sure that would be enough.
