Well with Trybull seemingly out for Saturday it presumably opens the door for Vrancic and Leitner. Cannot agree with OP in any shape or form. For 44 games DF and the guys have given us a season to remember, all the more special as it coincides with the binners sinking without trace. "Weve sold Josh and Madders, where will the goals come from?"...89 goals on the board 40 more than last season! Top spot, just 1 point from promotion. Pukki 3rd highest league scorer in a seaon for City, 1 more to equal 2nd with Varco. Sure to be leading scorer in this division this season. Playing a style of football thats given so much more entertainment this season from last its like chalk and cheese. Giving the away supporters a season to remember for a long time, just 2 defeats in 22. Blooding youngsters like Lewis, Aarons, Godfrey and Cantwell that bodes well for our academy s future. Having faith in, and getting hugely more than last season, out of guys like Stiepermann and Vrancic. I could find many more reasons why for me, this season is a cause to celebrate what our head coach has given us, i cannot remotely be bothered to nitpick anything hes done wrong. On top of all that Daniel is just a great guy and we fans have connected to him since the day he arrived. Nothing more to say, we are lucky to have him.

Expect many will have seen this clip but it really sums up to me why we are top of the league. yes, we have some wonderful players in the likes of Buendia and Pukki. But what Farke has really brought is passion, togetherness and fight and that’s what’s brought this unexpected success. He’s shown faith in all the players and backed the younger ones and we are now all benefiting from that. credit to Ben Godfrey, this is one hell of a recovery run in the 80th minute. i just love this team!

Yesterday we had posts accusing the players of bottling it. Today we get this rubbish. Farke is the bravest manager we've had in my time. These young players are the bravest we've had in my time. The older players are the most supportive we've had in my time. Yes there have been games we've won comfortably during the season. QPR the latest. But most of the season has been like the last four games. And that's regardless of whose personal favourites have started.

As my way of dealing with the ups and downs of this amazing promotion race I was reminding myself of our famous song and this line stands out the most for our current situation. It is a portent I'm sure. Slightly sentimental to post I know but it seems a nice philosophical counterpoint amidst the nerves.

There have been some bizarre posts going on lately, on here and on the Facebook groups. How Farke isn't good enough, isn't playing the right players etc. I actually think he's pretty much been proven correct in every decision he's made this season. People wanted Leitner to start ahead of Cantwell but it was clear Cantwell played because he was more up to speed and the pace of play etc than Leitner was. That was clear when Leitner made his start at home against Wednesday and struggled (despite the fact he's a wonderfully talented player). As with McLean, he's actually a 'more offensive' option than Vrancic. McLean travels with the ball and is involved in the final 3rd alot more than Vrancic typically is when he's starting a match from the deeper position alongside Trybull. I prefer Vrancic as a player but McLean has scored and assisted consistently during his run in. I remember when some on here, good posters too, felt Farke wasn't mixing up the squad enough, giving enough players chances etc - however in the last 15 games or so we've outperformed Utd and Leeds, so even doubting that is dubious.

As much as I agree we’re better with Leitner or Vrancic next to Trybull/Tettey, you can’t argue with winning 8 games in a row which McLean has done with city. Dont see how we’ve been more defensive lately at all. With McLean as a wandering quarterback we’ve been more attacking if anything. Scored more, conceded more.

If Villa are top of the form table then they’ll beat Leeds on Sunday
  8. 3 points
Surely over 44 games we’re top of the form table?

Hi guys congrats on your promotion – I have a number of Norwich mates so have been rooting for you throughout the season. Plus any club that helps to keep Horrible Leeds away from the EPL has got to get my vote! Also good to see another proper (non-plastic) football club back and the best of luck for next season (apart from when you play Palace of course!) Btw be interesting to see if your owners learn from the Fulham versus Cardiff approach. Money can buy you a lot…but not always Enjoy!!!

Godfrey was my MOTM yesterday. I thought he did brilliantly in the air against some big Stoke players. I remember seeing this run and we were all cheering for it at mine. It's quite incredible and credit to Farke for recognising the potential of turning him into a proper beast at CB!

The draws have been a little disappointing but I think down to separate issues. Reading and Wigan pressed us hard and flooded midfield, there was little space and passing was more hurried and imprecise. Both wigan and Sheff Weds had really bad refereeing decision going against us, plus in the latter case a world class goal. Sheff Weds aIso an improving side under Bruce with good discipline and players, plus an out of form and position Leitner. All games we were bound to be nervous and lack some fluidity as the line approached. And of course BUendia missing until yesterday. A free header and a missed chance to clear, basic errors but not confined to that game either! We have not been at our best but in fact could have won 3 out of the 4. No choking, just football life in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

For what DF has done for us this season I feel I'd let him off if I found him in bed with my Mrs.

Norwich haven’t gone defensive in the last few games at all. I think the opposite criticism could be laid at their feet that they have tried to attack too much and been unbalanced. Mostly what has happened is a little bit of nerves in front of goal and chances that would have been buried 10 game ago are now being missed or passes that would have found their man are now going to defenders. I agree that the squad management hasn’t been as I would have liked. Even just giving players longer from the bench would have helped. Not making a sub until the 80th minute versus QPR is just weird (in my eyes).

...a funny 24 hrs.....this time yesterday, I was driving home from Stoke having pulled into a Nottingham service station to listen to the last 20 mins of Brentford v Leeds, pretty much celebrating promotion..... now I've whipped myself up into a panic and envisioning how we can balls it up from here Saturday night needs to get here quick...

This negative approach to the end of season situation is a nonsense. This is without any doubt the best season for any Norwich city coach / manager in living memory. To achieve promotion with such a young talented team, some of whom had never played at this level is an incredible achievement. And before somebody says we are not yet promoted I would say you have not watched Leeds play recently nor recognise just how difficult Norwich City are to beat.

How do we get to this sort of stuff when we are top of the League and unbeaten for so long I cant remember....FFS Roll on next season ......I give Farke untill our first defeat before the "out' cries begin.
  22. 2 points
Birmingham rejected bids of £18m for Che Adams in January. The Championship is probably the 2nd most expensive League in the world to shop in (after the Prem). Would be extremely expensive for Norwich to get any players from Championship clubs in the summer and not a market I can see Norwich really exploring.
  23. 2 points
We have the 8th best defence in the league with 16 worse teams if you only look at the goals conceded column. And you have to factor us scoring 9 more goals than the next nearest largest scorers. ...Plus you need to consider we have only lost 6 games all year. Two clubs have lost 9 as the next best. I know we will have to bolster this area but we need to get perspective.

Whilst on the subject of chelsea loans....we should throw our name into the ring for reece james who after his loan at wigan, chelsea will surely now want to see how he fairs at premier league level on a season ling loan. We're as likely as anyone??
  25. 2 points
If that's choking, I bet there are 20 odd other teams in the division who wish their manager needed the Heimlich Manouver. It's very rare that I question the selections of a successful manager - I tend to think there is a reason that they work for a football club while I work for a printer.
  26. 2 points
I don't think it is that dubious- we saw how rusty Leitner was due to such sporadic use for example. I think with a bit more rotation and better use of subs we'd have been promoted a game or two ago- can't prove it though.

Great recovery from Godfrey but that McLean pass really pissed me off in the game. Norwich have put a lot of players up and the risk of counter is high, the last thing a player should then do is loft in a really low percentage ball into the box like that. I like McLean and haven’t been one of the people saying he should be dropped, but sometimes he’s prone to trying too much when a simple pass would be the better option. This certainly hasn’t been the only example of that from Norwich players in the last 4 games and part of the reason I think they have struggled to get a win. Been a slight vibe of ‘trying too hard’ and trying to force things of late rather than the patient approach that got Norwich to the top of the league in the first place. Anyway, great stuff Godfrey.

We are not up. A 10 goal swing , over four games , one of which involves the worst team in the league , who have a motivation , is certainly not insurmountable (actually its 11 as we have scored 17 more goals) . That's neither "pant wetting" or "happy clapping" but a nailed on truth. Add in the fact that most people wouldn't have seen Dirty Leeds getting beaten by QPR, Wigan or Brentford, you throw the unexpected into the mix. Everyone now expects them to get beaten by Villa. Did I expect us not to beat Reading, Wigan, Wednesday and Stoke? Absolutely not, and neither did most on here. I read lots about how the blades wouldn't beat Forest and Hull. Do I think we will go up? Yes. (As do the bookies and have for a long time) Are we there yet? No. Blackburn (and Mowbray) would love to spoil the party.
  29. 2 points
OK time out..... let's get three points against Blackburn and enjoy that night as a celebration of our outstanding football season, and (unexpected) promotion. We have all deserved this in our different ways. These moments come very infrequently, enjoy it. Then we just need a point against Villa to take the title. Doesn't matter if Stoke are on the beach or scare the hell out of Sheff Utd, they can lose 20 - nil as far as we care, if we get that point. A 0-0 or 4-4 I don't care, a point will have us top of the league and Champions.

Gotta be Alex. A) a big physical presence should keep the game tight and B) it would be lovely to have such a great servant there to celebrate next week.

It really does get better every time you look. He was the furthest forward player, right on the edge of the six yard box and ended up the furthest player back! Astonishing drive, commitment and desire.

Leeds wanted a loan until the end of the season, with a right to buy if they got promoted. Various figures floating around, but the Telegraph says it would have been £10m+ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/02/01/leeds-furious-swansea-pull-plug-10m-daniel-james-deal-final/

I tend to think that way, but then some of the glowing reports of Godfrey in the back two, including comparisons with the likes of Ferdinand and Stones, lead me to think that I am wrong. Let's also not forget Louis Thompson in the defensive mid-fielder role for, despite his injury record, he could finally emerge into the force that was once expected and was he was even more rated than BG, I seem to recall.

Is the OP an 'I want, I want' Millennial? It is always tough in the final strait and harder still to win from the front. Of course nerves kick in: allied with some game changing refereeing going against us. But our supporters have been too entitled and too expectant. Just because something is mathematically possible over Easter does not mean it's a failure not to happen. I was at the beam back yesterday. If the mood there is replicated in front of the players no wonder they get affected by nerves. It would be great to finish on a high. The players and DF deserve that but this promotion was won over 44 games not 4.

One of the characteristics of Farke's management is that he values consistency in selection and tactics and that is what he has done and stuck to. To my mind its quite the opposite of choking and although i don;t agree with some of the decisions he has made I do respect him for that consistency of approach which must also be largely appreciated by his players. I think there remain some serious question marks over our ability to defend crosses and set pieces which will undermine any premier league campaign if not addressed in the summer. Some of our players also look a little leggy due to the fact they play 90 minutes virtually every game. And I do think Vrancic and Leitner in particular have been underused - see how we stopped giving the ball away when they were both on at the end on Saturday and could and should have played more than they have done. IOn particular i would have had Vrancic back in place of Mclean in a few games because I think kenny in that holding role offers end product (whether scoring or assisting) but we have definitely been more careless with possession with him in the side. These are areas where I do not necessarily agree with everything Farke has done (although he's still done miles more right than wrong in anyone's book) but that's just my opinion. But i don;t think you can put any of that down to him choking, in fact its the polar opposite as its been due to him having absolute faith in his methods and judgment. Choking would have been making wholesale changes to how we play after a couple of the poorer recent results (which were still draws rather than losses).

Is that an Artichoke joke about farke’s alleged choke? an Artijoke if you will.
  40. 1 point
To say he's choked is nonsense. There is a valid criticism to be made of his squad management as the season has gone on but this is mostly nonsense.

I’m not sure if Pukki was ‘Farke’s idea’. But he did know of him from his days at Germany. Even if a lot of the players were Farke’s idea it is still the recruitment team’s job to make sure they are good enough and fit the profile the club want. The flexibility of Norwich’s recruitment is part of what makes it special. Sometimes with a director of football the manager isn’t given enough remit to identify players, and when there isn’t a DoF the manager is given too much remit. Norwich seem to balance the two sides well. It is pretty clear that Trybull and Zimmermann were very much from Farke. The rest it is a bit less clear. Farke’s ‘German connections’ are often mentioned with transfers, but I imagine Webber had more connections in the 2. Bundesliga - it isn’t a league Farke had ever worked or played in. Farke was only at Dortmund a couple of years and wasn’t there when Stipermann or Vrancic were. Those were both players fairly well know in Germany - especially Vrancic who had impressed in his one season in the top tier there. Interestingly, most of the recruitment team (and specifically the data and analysis side), were at Norwich before Webber and brought in by Lee Darnbrough. It just seems they may have been ignored slightly by Alex Neil - which relates My earlier point about giving too much power to the manager.

Hilarious reading the ‘ifs’ scenarios here. Not ever happening, we’re up. But then again what if a giant asteroid were to hit and wipe out all life 🤔🤔🤔

I think the only issue with bringing Tettey straight back in is he hasn’t played since January (?). I’ll be surprised if he’s thrown straight back in to the starting line up after getting 0 minutes for months. I think we’ll see Leitner or Vrancic start alongside McLean - let’s get at them from the first whistle!

The thing is Sheff Utd May not even get automatic promotion, let alone the title. One thing I’ve learnt this season is funny results can pop up at any given time. Twists and turns have been the weekly norm. Good form and bad form both have to start somewhere. Leeds think they’re out of it, but imagine Ip****e winning on Saturday. Unlikely but not beyond the realms of possibility. Then an encouraged Leeds manage to beat Villa who are already resting a few key players for the upcoming play offs. If that goes to the final day of the season with Leeds playing Ip****e and Sheff Utd playing Stoke then who knows? I think Sheff Utd would do well not to count their chickens just yet, they are definitely not in as good a position as us.

We normally take their good players though. We had Bamford before and he was woeful then. He's just not as good as his reputation.

I think...having thought a bit more ... that we should be backing ourselves to win both. We've scored the most goals, we've lost the least matches. We are the best team in the league. It doesn't always work out like that with 4 draws in a row but the odds must be very decent.
  49. 1 point
CDM, its not what we done over the last 4 matches, but the last 44. Thru the course of the season all teams have good spells and not so good (excepting the binners), but its the two most consistent sides over 46 games that get promoted and we are one of the two. If you look at the last dozen or so games both City and Sheff Utd have been more consistent then Leeds, thats why we are the ones heading to the Prem. As it stands we have done ok in the last 4 games, having a 7 or 8 point lead with half a dozen games left can be a difficult thing for a squad who mostly have never tasted life in the Prem or been in this situation before. If we had been WWDWWDWWDWWD in the last 12 games we would have said thats one heck of a consistent run, its been WWWWWWWWDDDD, same 12 match unbeaten run, same points amount, just in a different order. As for the title,Sheff Utd must rightly fancy their chances now, but who cares?..not me..just think of last season...even the first 4 or 5 games of this season..we are heading for the Prem. Its what both clubs do in the summer , players in / out, that will tstify how both cope in life with the big boys next season. OTBC.
