Last night I was fortunate enough to appointed secretary of the Canaries Trust, taking over from Mike Reynolds who had been in the post since start up in 2002. I am very honoured to given this responsibility as Mike is a hard act to follow and has been the main stay of the organisation throughout it’s existence. I do have some experience in this area as I was secretary of NCISA for 7 years. I am very proud of my time at NCISA and feel we made a difference at that time. The Trust is a considerably different animal to the Independent Supporters however, and I am having to learn some very different skills not least how shares work, something that was a closed book to me until recently! I feel that this is something of a watershed not only for me personally but also for the Trust, and I thought now would be a good time to attempt to dispel some of the negativity surrounding the Trust and eradicate any misconceptions. The main aim of the Trust is primarily to acquire shares in the football club on behalf of NCFC supporters. While that might not seem of great importance right now when things are going really well, the thing is with football that you never know what’s just around the corner. Ask Blackpool, Bolton and Coventry fans. Some clubs have actually been saved from going out of existence by their supporters trusts and while we hope that never becomes the case here, it’s nice to know that you may be able to make a difference. We have some great people in charge of Norwich City FC at present and long may it continue. Delia and Michael however aren’t getting any younger though and they won’t be here forever. Who knows what might happen then? Football is very unpredictable. At present the Trust is the 14th largest shareholder and the aim is to make that even bigger. When I first joined the Trust, it was run by some very good people who worked hard behind the scenes. I do think though that they would be the first to admit they weren’t very good at selling themselves and raising their profile among NCFC fans. Consequently, they were seen as this rather dark shady organisation nobody knew much about, and dismissed as rather irrelevant, especially as they co-existed at the same time as more high-profile organisations such as NCISA. That is no longer the case. The Trust has changed beyond all recognition. A lot of the original members have departed and been replaced by younger more dynamic people (not including myself here btw!). They have brought new skills and knowledge with them especially in social media and in marketing. The present-day Trust Board is quite different to the original one I joined in 2014. A bit like Triggers broom! None of the Trust committee are in for their own ends. I have heard in the past suggestions that the aim is to get one of us on the board. I would like to put that to bed once and for all. I can assure you that none of us have any aspirations to be on the Norwich City board. Personally, I can think of nothing worse. It’s stressful enough just being a fan without the knowledge that your decision making can have far reaching implications for the team and the club in general. I have nothing but respect for Delia and think she must have an incredibly thick skin when you think of the criticism she has had to take over the years. When things have gone pear shaped the brickbats have inevitably ended up her lap. All the Trust committee give up their time freely and are very often left out of pocket. I can tell you that at last night’s AGM the treasurer paid for the photocopying of the accounts with is own money and that isn’t cheap these days. I’ve been on the committee 5 years and not once have I heard anyone request an expenses claim form. It’s also a common misunderstanding that some of us especially Robin, are always keen to get their views heard on the radio and television. Canary Call excepted which is after all a phone in programme and designed for just that, I can honestly say none of us have ever rung up the BBC, ITV or a radio stations saying ‘This is my view. Put me on air so I can tell everybody’. If we’re on there it’s because we’ve been asked. We’re all quite shy really 😇 We work very closely with other fans groups. Proud Canaries, Forces2Canaries and Barclay End Norwich are part of our umbrella organisation and attend our monthly meetings. We work very closely with the Norwich City Fans Social Club and have a good working relationship with them and make sure any planned events don’t clash . We also support each other’s events and fundraising activities. We are certainly not in competition with them. The key word I think is ‘social’. That is not our remit and we would be the first to admit that they are much better at this than we are! Several us are regular contributors to Eddies Funds for the CSF weekly bet and meet up regularly with other PUPs. In my role as secretary I shall be pushing for more of us to get involved with this worthwhile and enjoyable enterprise. Neither are we aspiring to become another NCISA. The Independent Supporters were more of a debating platform about matters on and off the pitch and did an excellent job as such. Although each of us may hold personal views on things NCFC and on other aspects of life in general, these are not necessarily those of the Trust and I hope we make that quite clear on social media. The committee is a broad church and there is a wide spectrum of views on everything including politics, Wes Hoolahan and whether or not corporate polo shirts look good on ladies.. We see ourselves more of a critical friend than anything. We do hold a memorandum of understanding with the club which took a long time drawing up and this gives us a vehicle to reflect concerns that we are hearing from fans if they arise. Two of us regularly attend the club’s atmosphere group meetings so we have had a ringside seat for the wonderful work done this season by Barclay End Norwich and Along Come Norwich and the fantastic flags and atmosphere project. We’re not just there on behalf of the Trust though. If you have any views or suggestions, I would be pleased to take them along. More recently there has been as shift in our stance in that we are trying to be more of a part of the Norfolk community at large rather in the way that the football club has been doing over the past few years. Not all of the money we raise goes into share purchase. We have raised considerable sums for the CSF. On Boxing Day this year three of us including me, plunged into the North Sea for a sponsored dip. Despite assurances from my friends at the Look East weather department (you know who you are) that ‘It'll be all right because the sea temperature is higher than the air temperature’ it was bloody cold! We did however raise over £1300 for the CSF and I’m still alive so it was all worthwhile. On a foul night before the Swansea game with the support of the football club a couple of weeks ago Trust members joined the Norwich Food bank to collect donations. In total over 700kgs of items were collected. It proved so successful that we might make it an annual event. More recently as you might have read as it attracted a certain amount of derision on here, the Trust has become involved with the project to put free sanitary products in ladies’ toilets at football grounds. This is a nationwide initiative - 'On the Baw'. which was started by three young women at Celtic and is now supported by 75 other clubs. We are aiming to be the 76th. What’s not to like? So, to finish then I’d just like to say give us a chance. I am happy to engage with people on here, on social media and of course in person. You can usually find me in the Snakepit on match days and often in the Nelson with the PUPs afterwards. My Twitter account is @reephambird and I am on Facebook too. You can also email me reephambird@gmail.com. I would be delighted to hear from you. If you’d consider joining, that would be great too. Obviously, we need money to buy shares and it costs just £12 per year to own part of your club. www.canariestrust.org contactthecanariestrust@gmail.com OTBC. One City Strong.

Miserable whining miserablists out in force the moment one of our hugely entertaining and table topping team makes an error. They seem to have forgotten the number of brilliant saves Krul has made this year and how he has been a massively important figure in rallying and organising an extremely young and inexperienced defence. This negativity is obviously self inflicted and not down to anybody else. You would hope that they'd got it out of their system, but there would appear to be a fat chance of that.

No what was said is if we are seven points clear they would have to better 3 of our results from the remaining 8 games. The run you have shown they only bettered one result. If you look at the last 10 league games we’ve won 8, drawn 1 and lost 1. Sheffield United have won 6 drawn 3 and lost 1. It would take a capitulation of our form for them to better 3 of our results from the final 8 games. A Leeds and Norwich win tomorrow has the fat lady clearing her throat and ready to start.

What a disappointing thread. A fantastic season surpassing everyone's expectation, (Lakey excepted 🙂) based on the whole club getting behind the new ethos and way of playing which has brought success and pride. Playing in this way has put us on the brink of the PL, years ahead of schedule. Of course he made an error. It happens now and again but not as often as good things. Even our third goal in the same game came from a build up from Krul. He's the best keeper we have and has fully played his part. For goodness sake now is the time to get behind the team for the vital last few games not nit picking and undermining confidence.

Be careful guys. This group of players are different. They are the most close knit team we have ever had. By criticising one of them they all take it to heart. Our team is amazing and there deserves this year the whole team to be recognised. Krull has organised a young back four and has become a leader. There are not many that could have come in and been given this sort of respect. He has been asked to play this way and has started many moves this season that have led to goals at the other end. If he was left after coming back from 2 1/2 years of very little football and simply played to his strengths we would recognise Krull as a great shot stopper, a commander of the box and somebody that could get the ball straight down the pitch for our big centre forward to win the high ball time after time. They were the dark days. Embrace what we have another player that has bought into the Farke way of playing. This TEAM does not have a weak link and every player needs our support. There seems to be also an underlying grumbling to put McClean down simply because people beleive Mo and Mario are better. The manager is simply judged on results. He sees who is performing, he comes up with the tactics and a team is put out against another team to beat them. Since McClean has been in we have won 5 out of 5 and finally put ourselves in a position where we have the luxury of losing games. Trust the manager on his signings and selections and support the whole team for these last 9 games through thick and thin. Like it or not a few negative vibes could destroy all the great work done in the first 37 games. Give Krull every confidence tomorrow and give him a huge song to boost his confidence.

It matters to me so much I have to be yellow or green if playing board games and I won't play as blue. Ever.

Heise has only just gotten here. Husband, Raggett, Franke, Marshall, Jarvis, Naismith, Wildschut, Oliveira will almost certainly never play for the club again. Mcgov and Pinto will leave when their contracts expire but I suppose could still play this season with injuries. Thompson and Morris to get looked at again in pre season games. Thompson the more likely to actually be a part of next season's squad. Sir Benny to come back next season a different player and spearhead our Premier League attack scoring 15 goals and keeping us up.
  10. 2 points
Yes, there seems to be a history here that I don't understand or care about. That, whatever it might have been, was then, this is now. I don't imagine the Trust will achieve all its aims (and I say that as a member) but in general I fail to see how it can be anything but a positive force.
  11. 2 points
The gist from Webber seems to be that we would keep the core of the squad and look to supplement some additional signings. I think a new keeper will be top of the list, cover for Aarons, a Tettey replacement, competition for Pukki and another fast winger
  12. 2 points
Should it happen then this team and squad will be given a chance. There wont be wholesale changes and we would probably start the season with the team that finished this.
  13. 2 points
I believe he also said Tim Krul was our best summer signing. Moaners have to moan. Console yourselves with the thought of Webber punching them in the face....
  14. 2 points
Yes, assuming we get three points from Rotherham. Fair enough. But if we make that assumption I'd rather have Sheff Utd 7 points behind with a worse goal difference. Lets have Leeds stuff them 3-0 please...
  15. 2 points
The problem last night and to a degree on Friday is that only Trybull in the midfield was showing for the ball thus making it easier fro the opposition to press us and meaning we had to go across the back line more than usual.

Have been super impressed by him all season. He’s such an amazing footballer who can bring a bit of magic. Last night that pass was wonderful. I don’t think he’ll be with us long but if we can keep him for premiership next season that would be great. There is of course one thing he’s not good at and that’s being substituted! He hates it and it’s almost every game at home. OTBC

3/10 games to concede on the stroke of halftime is not great though... and if you were to look just 5 games further back you'd also see goals in 45'+' minutes in the Nottingham Forest, Derby matches. Not to mention the goals we've conceded immediately after scoring; Millwall, Derby, Bristol, Birmingham. All of which at home, there does definitely seem to be a trend for conceding at stupid stupid points in our home games... in fact, if you were to isolate our last 10 home games.. Bolton - conceded 88th minute Forest - 45+2 minutes Derby - 45+2 and 90th minute (also worth mentioning that we conceded from literally their first attack after we played them off the park for 30+ mins, not to mention the goal we conceded immediately after the restart following the floodlight failure) Portsmouth - 90th minute Birmingham - conceded immediately after scoring Sheff United - 45 minutes Bristol - conceded immediately after scoring Hull - 45 minutes This represents 9/17 goals conceded or 11/17 if you were going to be a bit more critical of the Derby game. It is hard to moan in what has been such an exceptional season, but it is so frustrating when we slip with basic errors in key stages of a game; where all we need to do is settle for a couple of minutes to see through the momentum. Time and time again we shoot ourselves in the foot and create a new mountain to climb when we have only just reached the top of one... However, I'm sure no one is more frustrated at these incidents than Farke, and I hope we can cut them out soon or we will be in serious trouble next season in the prem (if we make it!).

I can’t seperate these 2 teams at all, there’s nothing between them really - my gut feeling is that it will end up a 2-2 draw. I suppose a Leeds win would be best, but no result will bother me, I just think that if we want to win the league then we must do it ourselves and prove we have deserved to win it. Rotherham for us will be a tough game in its own right. OTBC

I'm so sorry for my absence on this thread. I was off the forum for a good while, then on my return I had a couple of goes and then forgot about it. I happened upon the thread tonight, and noticed my name on the list for the final six on April 27 - call it serendipity. I will endeavour to post every week forthwith, starting today with: Bundesliga: Eintracht Frankfurt v Nuremberg - HOME WIN. Frankfurt boast a decent 6-3-3-27-16 home record, and are unbeaten in all competitions since before Christmas. They've won their last three in the Bundesliga, and are fresh from a stunning win away to Inter in the Europa League last night. Despite their midweek diversions, they should still be too strong for rock-bottom Nuremburg, whose away record is a dismal 0-2-10-8-35. They've not won a game in any competition since September, and have lost eight straight on the road. Odds of 2/5 look rather generous to my eye. As for the City game, I read with interest that Rotherham's top scorer is Semi Ajayi, a centre half. Doesn't look like the bookies have cottoned on to this, as his odds look pretty standard for a defender. Therefore, if you're feeling speculative, how about Ajayi to score first and Norwich to win at 70/1? Or slightly less speculative, Norwich to win and Ajayi to score any time at 16/1? The very best of luck to all PUPs, and to our gallant Canaries. It feels good to be home.

I signed up to the trust recently and donated to ACN been very impressed with all the work you are doing and the work by all the other initiatives and I thank all the people involved working to make our club better. I honestly believe there has never been a better time to be a supporter of this club and it's thanks to fans like you Kathy.

Sounds excellent, Kathy – I'll speak to the missus and see if she's up for joining (can't see why she wouldn't be). Now's probably a good time to join so we can enjoy our success with positive fans, but the more of us that join, the more of us get a say in the club's future direction. Here's hoping people with historical beefs can leave them to one side and try to focus on the (very obvious) positives around the club and the city at the moment.
  32. 1 point
In conclusion, I think the most important result is a City win at Rotherham! (Which Daniel Farke has also just said!)
  33. 1 point
But by that token hairy, so does 6. As I said earlier, a draw keeps pressure on both of them. For them to catch that up (accounting for GD) they would need to match our results but winning two that we lost (if that makes sense). It needs them both to outperform us significantly more than they have at any stage of the season so far (bar the first month). Yes it's hedging, but that is the sensible approach to take here, that's why hedge funds make so much money....
  34. 1 point
However much folk moan and squark "get rid of it" and "get it forward" eventually they are going to have to accept Farke doesn't play that way. Perhaps that's what he meant when talking about fans may decide they want a different style. I like playing from the back. I accept when there's a mistake it can be costly but is it really more costly than getting it forward with more than a 50% chance of losing possession?
  35. 1 point
I was able to call the club yesterday and get a ticket that was returned. There was one more available at the time. With the weather the way it will be up there, you might find some more getting returned!
  36. 1 point
Not really comfortable discussion this yet.. but... 1. Replacement Goalkeeper to replace McGovern and challenge Krul. 2. An extra Centre-Back to enable us to play 3 at the back at times (ideally also act as cover at right-back) 3. Replacement striker to replace Rhodes - highly mobile similar to Teemu 4. Extra pace - so we don't have to rely so much on Onel - who could play in any of the 3 AM positions Wouldn't want much more - squad harmony is so important - give players the chance to show they can be effective in the PL. Would prefer younger players "stepping up."

Great post Hank and I agree 100% with that. Krul has certainly made some big mistakes and probably isn’t as good a keeper as Gunn. But given that we have been playing with an extremely young and inexperienced back four I think he has been very important. I would think his presence and character have been essential during the season. I’m not sure the defence as a whole would have been as strong without someone like Krul. I’ve no doubt that we will need to look for a new, premiership quality, number one IF we go up. But even then I think Krul will be the perfect back up keeper. A good character in the dressing room and someone to offer support to the new keeper and provide more than adequate back up

No, it isn’t Bill. The mathematics is clear. It’s a three horse race and the first two places guarantee new income of over P150m. With that we secure the clubs future and won’t need to sell any of our players. Winning the title is a nice little tin cup bonus to put on the mantlepiece. If we lost two games and the other teams won, we’d be behind both teams if they were 4 and 5 points behind us, we’d still be in second with a 1 point advantage if they were 2 and 7 behind.
  44. 1 point
4 and 5 points gives both a chance to catch us should we slip up, 7 points to third gives us breathing space, going up as Champions is nice, let's get up first.
  45. 1 point
Gunn was brilliant for us last season. The only thing I can remember him doing that was poor was being beaten in a jump for the ball by Matt Smith at QPR which led to a QPR goal. HOWEVER ---- when Gunn went to Southampton at the beginning of this season he cost them £13 million. Others have asked earlier in this thread which goalie we could have got for free at the beginning of this season who would have been available at the time and better than Krul. Nobody has come up with a sensible answer.
  46. 1 point
Yeah his performance against Swansea was diabolical. Cant believe the amount of goals we conceded.
  47. 1 point
I understand what you're saying Swindon, and there has to be slightly better judgement from our players at times, but hoofing the ball forward to Pukki/Steip and inevitably losing the first or second duel also invites its own pressure. At least holding onto the ball keeps the opponents working hard and eats up valuable time. I also think Hogesar is correct when he suggests it's integral to how we play. Without question, keeping hold of the ball gives us a greater element of overall control in the game, whilst encouraging that high press (which Hull did less than Swansea incidentally). In my opinion, this tires the opposition out allowing us to finish strongly and I think it's no coincedence we usually pick opponents off towards the latter stages of matches.
  48. 1 point
The best result is we get 3 points at Rotherham. Whatever happens in Leeds vs Sheffield United is of benefit to us, but only if we win our game.
  49. 1 point
I was about to post the very same question. Normally I would want a draw between rival teams but I think a Leeds win is best for us, particularly as Sheffield United have a run of 4 tricky fixtures coming up. All that assumes that we win at Rotherham. It's an unusual season in that there are 3 teams who are much better than the rest. It will be a travesty if the top 3 don't get promoted. There's very little between all 3 teams and I certainly don't buy into the argument that Sheffield United play long ball football. They were very good here and have played attractive football all season.

Got it. Next time he commits a blunder for God's sake don't talk about it on a football forum.
